My husband and I ate at Red Seven and  it was very good. At first glance the restaurant looks like it might be a very expensive and up tight atmosphere. When we walked in we were surprised to find college students eating in sweat pants and tennis shoes. It's a very laid back atmosphere which is fine but the decor is very trendy. The prices are middle of the road depending on what you order. It was very good and I would definetely recommend this restaurant!
Review Source:I've been there 3 times, and my food was delicious all 3 times!
I love the interior, both lunch and dinner are excellent, all the servers have been very attentive and polite.
Had the Lobster Ravioli the first time, Pesto Crusted Calamari and Cali Burger the second time, and Rigatoni El Forno the last time. They were all extremely tasty and I'm so sad to have not tried the desserts yet because I've been too full every time.
The drinks also sounded really good.
One thing I would complain about though, was when I ate there last time my boyfriend's mom and I both got very gritty salad. We had different dressings, and my boyfriend also had salad from his entree but his was just fine.
The server person was very nice, he apologized and brought us a new bowl, but we soon found out it was also gritty so we just gave up on eating salad. Maybe we got bad lettuce both times??
After that we just joked around about the gritty salad but it was still quite embarrassing since I was the one that suggested going here :/
My food was delicious all 3 times, but I'll be scared to eat salad there if I go again!
I love sitting on the patio at Red 7, but the inside is nice also. I was pleasantly surprised with the variety and quality of the food. They're menu is pretty eclectic and can please anyone for lunch of dinner. I've tried the margherita pizza and the southwest salad both of which were really good. The patio is awesome for drinks (I had a blueberry, strawberry, champagne thing which was excellent) or lunch on a nice day. I will definitely be going back.
Review Source:Sadly, this restaurant suffers from very inconsistent service.
During our most recent visit, we were ignored by all wait staff (none of them even
looked at us) and finally had to ask the front desk/host to get us a server. All this
while many other customers were seated, brought water, and otherwise
hosted.
Once we finally got a server and ordered our food, the dishes were brought out in the wrong order. Â The check was incorrect.
Unfortunately, I think the poor service was racially motivated in this case.
Friends and I went to Red Seven one night for a nice dinner together before we all went our separate ways after graduation. I am very glad we chose Red Seven. The restaurant is very sleek inside with a dark interior, nice decorations, and a cool looking bar; not to mention extensive patio seating.
We were all very happy with our food which was amply portioned and very tasty. I had the balsamic chicken medallions which I highly recommend. We didn't try any of the drinks because we were all recovering from an extended alcoholic binge (A.K.A. our last year on campus), but they looked delicious.
I definitely want to go back to Red Seven and recommend it.
The food is nothing spectacular and generally very salty.  I have been here several times because someone I am with always wants to try out a new restaurant. The ambiance is nice and has an upscale feel.  I finally found something I like  "pecan crusted chicken salad." I wouldn't mind coming back for the salad and the nice atmosphere.
Review Source:Red Seven is one of the best places to eat in Lafayette. Â The prices and the quality of the food and drink is better than many other places. Â They are rather quick to serve and the lunch menu has something to please everyone. Â Neither my husband or I have been unhappy with any dishes we have ever had. Â
It's out go to outing for work as they have great options for everyone.
I came here for a family meal that my boyfriends father treated us too. There is street parking and also a lot around the back; although Red Seven does not validate the price of the lot is not too bad.
The decor is lovely. Red, dark wood, beautiful bathrooms (lol! that's how I rate a place! you gotta have nice restrooms otherwise it doesn't say much.) When we arrived half of our party was already seated so we were promptly seated with them.
The menu is not too large but it encompasses sea food, chicken, beef, steak, pizzas, etc.
I had the Sex and The City drink, Thai Peanut pasta with chicken, Â and my starter salad came with the lime dressing. I loved the presentation of the food, everything was beautifully presented. The lime dressing was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. My boyfriend had the Mango Chardonnet dressing which was the house dressing and which was almost as amazing as mine (a tad bit sweeter). The starter salads were a good portion.
My drink ($7) was also very nice. It had a lovely sweetness to it. My boyfriend had the "Cure for the Pain" drink which was insane and had like 6-7 different alcohols in it. it was a bit to alcoholic for my taste and later on in the night (after a few shots and a beer or two more) he was regretting all the alcohol (something which he doesn't normally do.)
The Thai Peanut Chicken was lovely - a large sized portion (enough for me to be full, and for a full doggiebag for the next day) and although it was spicy it was not too spicy so I was able to enjoy it without tons of water to calm my throat. I didn't particularly find anything to be too salty although a tad bit more chicken would have been wonderful.
Everyone at the table seemed to be satisfied with their food. My boyfriends mother had the Orange Chicken which was described as being "gingery" as well on the menu. At first she wasn't too sure if she would like the ginger so she asked the waitress about it. The waitress was kind enough to ask if she would like her to bring some sauce out so that she could sample it. Eventually she decided on having the sauce on the side and she was very happy with it. My boyfriends sister had the penne which she described as a "tad bit salty" but she seemed to enjoy it. All of the men devoured their steaks and seemed to have no complaints. My boyfriends little sister (10 years old) was not a big fan of her chicken fingers, but she loved the fries. She thought that her chicken fingers were too salty and several other people agreed. It's sad that she didn't like it as she is the baby of the group.
All in all I'd say it's a toss up between 3.5 and 4 stars. A few dishes were a bit salty, although no one sent theirs back or anything. It is still a nice place and I'm glad we had the opportunity to go.
Absolutely wonderful service from the staff every time I dine here. The menu doesn't have much of a selection in my opinion because I always end up going with the same thing because I don't find anything else I want to try, but the shrimp tacos and the pizzas are awesome. Definitely try the shrimp tacos. YUM
Review Source:My hairstylist kind of threatened to cut me off if I didn't go here.
Well, it wasn't said in THAT many words - but she had scissors in her hands at the time and was talking about their interesting drinks and appetizers.
Around 9pm on a weekday evening we decide to give it a try. Â The bar had a few people at it, and there was only 1 other occupied booth that we could see.
The decor is ... red (I bet you saw that coming!) accents with dark wood and recessed lighting. Â It's not too bright, not too dim - and seemed very inviting on a rainy summer evening.
I located the drink that my hairstylist loved so much. Â Blueberry Smash. Â Yes! Â I ordered it and the only disappointing thing was that I didn't want to necessarily drink more so I couldn't order another ;) Â Jon C had a rococo lemonade and it was mighty tasty as well.
For appetizers, well, I can't really eat much wheat. Â As is typical with a lot of places, a lot of things have wheat as a carrier or wrap or breading.
I talked to the server about it - I'm not celiac, I just can't have a *lot* of it - she checked with the kitchen and we decided on the Beef Lettuce cups (which was already the plan) and Coconut Shimp (at least only a little bit of wheat in the breading).
Like Mary C. I did find both of the appetizers a bit too salty for my taste. Â I would have been very happy with less than 1/2 the salt that was in the dishes. Â I may look to the salads the next time we go here for drinks.
Red Seven is owned by the same company that owns Christos and Camille's Sidewalk Cafe. This is a new 'concept restaurant' of theirs. Â I think the selection and decor work very well for it.
The two drinks we got were quite good, my hairstylist was definitely right! Â We shall return for drinks in a nicely decorated chilled out environment.
Lizz C. and I had been planning to check this place out for quite some time, so before a show across the street at Sparrow, we decided to give it a try.
She'd been regaled with tales of some awesome blueberry-containing mixed drink and some beef/lettuce cups that were supposedly awesome too.
We went in around 9:15 and were seated pretty instantly by a friendly (perhaps a little too effusive) server. Â
We browsed the drink menu for a few minutes and she ordered the aforementioned blueberry drink and I ordered a coconut-rum-containing lemonade concoction. Â Girly? Â Eh, sure, maybe, but it sounded good.
From the appetizer menu, we decided to order the beef/lettuce cups we were told about, as well as some coconut shrimp.
The drinks were brought out crazy-fast and both were very good. Â We always try each other's drinks/beers, and we both thought both drinks were good. Â My lemonade/coco-rum drink was definitely well made - the coconut rum dominated, but the lemonade provided a nice contrast to it. Â Overall, the drink wasn't super-sweet, which I like.
The food, too, came out VERY fast! (Kitchen is bored, the server said.)
The coconut shrimp were good, if a little "standard." Â I mean, once you've had coconut shrimp, there's not a lot new or "wow" to experience. Â The place either screws it up (overfrying, too much breading, wrong fryer temp leading to too much oil) or they don't. Â Red Seven didn't screw it up, and the dish was good.
The beef/lettuce "cups" were not what I expected. Â What you get is a serving dish of a beef, vegetable, and sauce concoction, with 4-5 leaves of romaine on the side. Â You then spoon some of the beef mixture onto a leaf and eat it. Â There is no "cup." Â
That said, the dish wasn't bad. Â A little too sweet for my tastes, but I prefer non-dessert food to be not sweet at all. Â A little too saucy as well, but I figured with something being called "beef lettuce cups" it would be mostly beef and perhaps not even sauced at all. Â Ah well - it's not "terrible" - just not what I expected and a little too sweet for me.
That was the extent of our food/drink ordering as this was just a pre-show nosh. Â We often just split an appetizer or two - portions sizes being what they are these days, it's the best way to eat out and yet still maintain fitness/weight. :)
We will probably go back, either for drinks, or perhaps to try an entree.
I wouldn't say that we're Red Seven regulars, but we've been there many times and will continue going as long as we live here.
Suffice to say -- my wife and I are big fans of this restaurant. It has a distinct feel that, as others have mentioned, isn't very "Indiana" by nature. The decor is chic and overall, R7 has something of a 'big-city' vibe. We love to take out-of-town friends here because of this reason.
And then menu is great, offering a diverse range of food from burgers, sandwiches and pizzas to pastas, steaks and asian-infused appetizers. Some reviewers have mentioned it having "identity crisis," but I think there's something for everyone.
In fact, we've been for dates, drinks, casual and business lunches, dinners and parties and one of the reasons why is because of the variety of the menu.
Among our favorites are the Fresh Berry Bubbly and Spiked Arnold Palmer, Shrimp Sliders, Bourbon and Baja Burgers, Balsamic Chicken Medallions and Steak Gorditas.
Full bar is good and they have a decent beer & wine selection. Desert menu is limited and slightly underwhelming, but the service is typically wonderful and again -- the atmosphere is a refreshing change of pace.
Would definitely recommend this place.
This is some of the worst food I've had in my life. I'm not trying to be an ass. I would have really loved to like this place, since I'm moving to the area to take a job. I was taken out to be wined and dined here by the hiring committee. I'm assuming this is the best Lafayette has then? The service was awesome. They were very accommodating to people's different foods needs. But the food was just awful. I had a stir fry with shrimp (a substitute, they graciously offered). The shrimp was so strange in texture--just mush, with no tooth or give. I've never had anything like this. A quick internet search and it seems I was just served up some really old shitty shrimp. I didn't finish my food-- an embarrassment for me in front of my prospective colleagues. But oh well. I'm really hoping there are many better options in the Lafayette/West Lafayette area. I'm sure there are and can't wait to explore.
Review Source:The location is good, the decor is fine, but it's pretty much down hill from there. Food is salty, appears prepackaged or prepared from Gordon's food service products. Think salt, fillers, and canned food. Most recently, five dined, we shared 2 appetizers (tasted frozen and re-heated), and had 5 entrees and drinks. Drinks were good. Salads were average, and sadly, the best part of the meal.
If you have a choice, go elsewhere.
Honestly, they lose a star for considering Blue Moon and People's Brewing Company as being "imported" beer, so when we ordered the Thursday special (pizza and a domestic beer), they indicated that they would have to charge us extra for "non-domestic beer." Â I don't know what that means considering People's Brewing Company is a stone's throw away, but it is what it is.
Other than that, the ambiance is nicer than most places in the Lafayette area, and they do make good mixed drinks. Â The waitstaff could also be more attentive and use fewer abbreviations (i.e. just say "margarita" instead of "marg").
I just had the pizza here, which was tasty and a great deal. Â The pizzas definitely need to be shared with another person as they are NOT thin crust pizzas. Â
There is nothing truly standout about the food, but I can see the appeal of the restaurant itself.
Great date-night spot in Lafayette, even though the initial wait when we arrived (at 7:25 pm on Saturday) was 45 minutes long. Â
From other yelpers, I wasn't expecting anything much but mediocre, over-priced entrees. Â Overall, it was pretty good. Â We started off with some cocktails: Â "Pure Joy" and "Spiked Arnold Palmer." Â Both were very well made. Â After ordering, our waitress brought out two hot rolls and our salads. Â I really enjoyed the house dressing which was a mango?-champagne vinaigrette. Â After debating with myself on what to get, I settled on the SHRIMP WITH SWEET CORN SUCCOTASH. Â The shrimp were perfectly cooked and well-seasoned, the corn succotash was perfect, but the "jasmine rice" Â tasted like Uncle Ben's. Â My date had the MAHI MAHI WITH PESTO AND BACON. Â He said it was good, minus the pesto linguini. Â
Red Seven is definitely the nicest and most contemporary restaurants I've dined at in Lafayette. Â Good ambiance due to the lighting and music. Â Great service too!
I agree 100% with Xopher. There is an identity crisis here as their menu is too vast and everything is so-so. We have a party of 6, all with different dishes and only the pasta got the thumbs up. Other's were bland and not creative.
Other reviewers have noted they have good pasta, so I'd go with that if I could do it all again. Then again, if I had that power, I wouldn't have ended up in Lafayette for the weekend.
The decor/ambiance is nice, so it has that going for it. Beyond that, I don't make it a habit to visit Lafayette and won't be coming here again for food but I would come here for drinks.
This place has a really great ambiance...reminds me of a quaint martini bar. Â I actually gave an extra star for the decor and vibe. The food, however, is a bit lacking. It's not bad...it's just not that great. Perhaps I didn't order the right thing, but the menu is pretty extensive. It's a mismatch of Chinese, American cuisine, and Italian as well a few other random dishes. The comments at our table ranged from "really good" to "disappointing" so it seems like a crapshoot. If ever in the neighborhood again, I'd definitely step in for drinks and possibly an appetizer, but might shy away from a main course.
Review Source:Red 7 is one of my favorite restaurants in the area, we probably eat there about once a week. I love the ambiance and decor, it helps me forget, for a second, that I live in a small town :) And when the weather is nice, the patio is lovely.
They have several vegetarian options that I've tried:
Spring roll appetizers - never fails. They are big, the ingredients are fresh, and I love the sauce they come with.
Entrees come with a small salad or soup and bread rolls. They have a couple of creative salad dressings (mango chardonnay) that I like. My favorite entree has to be the lemon gnocchi with spinach and peas. The gnocchi are soft and fluffy, the lemon flavor is great, and these days they use a subtle parmesan that I like much better than the saltier, sharper one they seemed to use some time back.
My second favorite entree is the 4-cheese ravioli with sage butter. It is a very flavorful dish. I've also had their pizza, and it is good. The Asian noodle dish with stir-fry vegetables is not convincing...
They have a nice selection of wine and beer, and a full bar with nice cocktails. I love their Sangria and the fresh bubbly (champagne with crushed frozen berries).
The service has always been great, but now that almost all the employees know us by name, it's even better :)
I am a huge fan of Red Seven. It has a more upscale feel than most restaurants in the area, but without prices to match. I absolutely love the pizza here, particularly the southwest chicken pizza. Service is typically great. If you come on a weekend, prepare to wait a bit for a table.
Review Source:I have a friend who has work in Lafayette and was excited to take me to this "cool place that has great shrimp sliders". Â We connected after a Purdue basketball game and headed over. Â It was Friday night (6:45pm) so there was a 45 minute wait, and it took just about 45 minutes to get a table. Â I was impressed by the atmosphere; it had a hip urban vibe that I didn't expect from central Indiana. Â I live in Chicago so I loved the effort put into the decor. Â
The menu is American/Asian/Italian. Â As we reviewed the menu, I ordered Harrison's bourbon (just recently on the market, hyped as an Indiana bourbon). Â I requested 1 ice cube in my drink. Â After about 10 minutes the waiter brought my drink. Noticeably missing...the ice cube. The waiter must has noticed my reaction because at that point he informed me that the "ice had melted". Â I guess I know what happened in the 10 minutes between ordering and receiving my drink.
I ordered the Thai peanut noodles, my friend had the shrimp sliders (a special request from the lunch menu) and her son the orange chicken. Our dinners came with a nicely presented salad. Â We all had the mango chardonnay vinaigrette on our salad and it was quite good! Â I was feeling better about my drink snafu until the waiter came back, in the middle of our salad, to deliver our entrees. Â There's nothing like waiting 45 minutes for a table only to get rushed through the meal. Â When we were finished, the waiter removed 2 of the 3 entree plates, leaving one, empty, dirty plate on the table for a good 10 minutes. Â Sigh....
The food was good, especially when coupled with the nice atmosphere. Â Are there better places in Lafayette? Â Perhaps, but Red Seven has managed to combine an interesting atmosphere with satisfying food. Â I was disappointed in the service, maybe he was having a bad day, but none the less, the waiter tainted what was otherwise a lovely evening.
It really should have been a better experience so I was disappointed with my visit, however I get to Lafayette fairly often so I will give them one more try.
Normally, I'd give this place 2 stars, but it's not a chain, and it's really trying. Â And maybe it'll even get better.
Red-7 suffers from an identity crisis, displaying perfectly the confusion that American "fusion" cuisine can lead to. Â It does steaks, it does Asian-style seafood, it even dabbles in southeast Asian noodle things. Â You could give it the benefit of the doubt and say it might be trying to be a Pacific-rim-type of place. Â But key here is the "trying." Â It's not there yet.
"Red seven" refers to the roulette bet. Â At the moment, that's the only thing it's got nailed down. Â All other bets are off.
I would not call this establishment "upscale", that's an exaggeration.
I would how ever describe the atmosphere as the "Cooler big brother" to all the other local restaurants.  It's moderately price and it does a spin  and twist on other wise average food.
I've had an arrangement of items here (not all in one sitting).
Here are some of my favorites
The chicken Enchilada Soup is GOOOOOD!! It has a kick to it that makes you wanting more.
The Red Rock Seafood Bisque is phenomenal and I was pleasantly surprised with the
NY ANGUS STRIP WITH PORT AND ASIAGO. OMG it was soo good, if I could have licked the plate I would but it might have not gone over well with the management.
That said I find the service to be good.
I definitely recommend this place and I know the next time I visit Lafayette I will stop here again!!
Hands down, this is the best restaurant in Lafayette! My boyfriend and I came here for Valentine's Day. The service was spectacular. I loved the atmosphere, very nice decor and lighting.
The smells when you walk in the door are amazing. They have a lot of variety on their menu, so the air was filled with all these different aromas. I kept getting a whiff of something and thinking, "What is that? I want to order it!"
I had a drink called Pure Joy that truly did live up to its name! It was difficult to decide what to order because everything looked so good, but I ended up getting the Balsamic Chicken Medallions ($13.80) and my date got the Mahi-Mahi with Pesto and Bacon ($17.20). Both were outstanding!
This is on my list of places I gave a chance (twice) and don't need to try again.  They have some beef lettuce wrap thing that is pretty good, but is just a version of the lettuce wraps at PF Chang's.  The atmosphere is nice, I guess.  It seems like  a restaurant that is trying to be upscale and fancy, but is trying too hard.  Oh, and I'm pretty sure they forgot to put gin in my gin and tonic.  It is overpriced for the same blah food you can get at any chain restaurant.
Review Source:We were here for a surprise birthday party, there were 5-6 tables of 4 people on the patio. Â
About the Venue: Â It is very upscale and quite different for Lafayette the college town. Â It reminds me very much of places I have been in Chicago or Las Vegas. Â That is all well and good but if you are trying to establish that classy of a joint the bathroom sink and counter should NOT be covered in water and a complete mess. Â It has a small interior and appears to have a bar area. Low lighting and a decent view of the court house. I didn't take my camera this time, darn!
About the Service: Â I know large groups are hard, but they generally tip well. Â She did a good job and even had help at times. Â I did not appreciate not getting a napkin for our drinks, it's rather warm and humid so my drink is sweating. This caused dripping on my white pants when drinking and through the wood slat table. Â When they brought the salads it was like an arm of men show up with 3-4 salads each. Â But they failed to bring the silverware prior so everyone had to wait. Â Then they brought out nice dinner rolls, it was far too bad that they brought a fancy plate with only 3 rolls for a table of 4. Â SERIOUSLY! Â She was so busy serving it was difficult at best to ask for more rolls so I just did without, I snagged a bite from my guy though. Â Very tasty but not home made.
About the Quality, Quantity and Cost of food: Â Picking from the menu is difficult because the fake leather legal size boards with paper menus attached have different items. Â So our table of 4 had 3 menus 2 with the sandwich stuff and 1 with the dinner stuff, that is a little inconvenient. Â I had the rib eye steak. Â It was like $18-$22 dollars. Â It was a generous portion of meat, 4 small pieces of roasted asparagus and a baked potato. Â The salad had lettuce basically. Â I had to ask for butter and sour cream for the potato. The food was mostly cold and really just regular food. Â I feel that I could of gotten as good of meal at Texas Roadhouse for about $9. Â There was nothing awesome about the food. Â Nothing that was going to make me crave going back there. Â
And on a side note, I would be willing to check out one of their week night specials as they seemed pretty good.  Like Thursday is pizza and a bottle of beer for $7.77 and domestics are $1.50 (granted I won't drink domestics).  Monday is girls night buy one meal get one  1/2 off.
This place has a really cool look inside. Â We got a really cozy corner table and had a full view of the room. Â We waited around 20 minutes for a table on a friday night at 7 pm. Â
The food... Â It has a small menu with pasta, steaks, pizza, and some other dishes. Â The salad and fiesta chicken soup that came with the main dishes were both good. Â The main dishes tasted okay but kind of unhealthy. Â After dinner I was left extremely thirsty because the food was too salty. Â My almond crusted chicken was moist and tasted tender but I guess "the crust" was a little too fried for me. Â I also had a bite of the NY steak with asiago cheese on top which tasted a little bit too fatty for me. Â
Sooo the verdict? Â This place is okay. Â I don't like food that leaves me thirsty, especially pricey food. Â I won't crave the food late at night or anything but the atmosphere is nice enough to go again for dinner.
What ever you do, don't get a mojito here. They are horrible! The Marghertia pizza leaves a lot to be desired as well. It's basically a cheese pizza with some sort of dried basil sprinkled on top. Not good. They do have a blueberry drink that was wonderful, and our friends thought the buffalo chicken pizza was good. Atmosphere is nice, but the prices are too high.
