After reading the reviews, I don't know why some people are saying the food isn't good. Everytime I come here, which is around five times, it is excellent. The food is so good. I had the chicken dumplings and the watermelon salad. I just have to go back tomorrow. My two friends loved their quesadillas and fish wrap. The waitress was also good. I think it is one of the better restaurants in Northport.
Review Source:Poor kitchen  service. Waited 50 minutes for a terrible meal to be served. The  Salmon entree was a bed of lettuce with a piece of fish the size of my thumb. The Sword  fish was completely dried out and the  southwest quesadilla was served in
an over cooked puff pastry. I thought  they usually come in a flour tortilla?
When I told the  self claimed  manager about our experience, she did not seem to care  and offered us a drink on the house.
Sorry I came hear for a nice meal. If I wanted to drink I would have went to a bar.
So I went back for dinner and I've got to be honest, it was better than I originally expected. Â Our group of 5 was seated in the front window booth after waiting 20-30 minutes on a busy Saturday night. Not too bad in my opinion.
Our waitress Lauren was attentive and very friendly, as well as quite knowledgeable about the menu. Â She made some excellent recommendations from the beer taps and the menu. Â
Our group ordered a bunch of apps and entrees and just shared everything, that way we could all try a little bit of a lot. Â Here's what we had and how it went...
Apps:
Kumamoto Oysters - Awesome. Â If you love oysters and haven't had these, do it, you'll be amazed as to how sweet they are.
Chicken Dumplings - Pretty good. Â Nothing extraordinary though.
Tuna Nachos - Amazing. Â By far the best appetizer we ordered.
Lobster Tacos - Decent. Â Not really packed with lobster.
Entrees:
Swordfish (Special) - Really, really good. Â Would order this again.
Scallops (Special) - Really, really, really great. Â Will definitely order this again.
Soft-Shell Crab (Special) - Delicious. Â Crispy fried goodness.
Duck Fajitas - Very good. Â Make sure you ask for extra fajita wraps.
Rockin Fish is most definitely my new favorite spot in NPT Village, and judging by the crowds, I'm not alone in that, so if you haven't gone, go; and if you've been then I'm sure you're going back. Â See you there.
I went here with my parents for a pre-mother's day celebration... and maybe watch a little hockey. I had the classic burger with side of mixed greens. Like it said, I did not need one drop of ketchup. The burger was juicy (Medium Rare) and had cheese, bacon, fried onions, and more bacon on it. My dad had the monkfish francaise, and while I didn't ask how it was, the plate was licked clean.
Also the bartender knew A LOT about the craft beers. I didn't have any, but I did overhear her talking to the guy next to me.
Just came back from lunch at Rockin Fish on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Â I guess I can start off by saying that the decor is beautiful and the outdoor seating on a gorgeous day as today is what got us to give it a try even thought I had heard not so great reviews of the place! Â Anyway we ordered the coney island and the cream ale beers which weren't so bad, the coney island was definately better than my cream ale! Â We then received our order of Kumoto Oysters which were just aweful! Â I mean if you are going to charge me $2.75 per oyster you should definately know not only how to open an oyster but you should even clean them out before serving them. Â I had 3 out of the 10 oysters that we ordered & then gave up because they were dirty and every bite I took had a broken oyster shell in it! Â For lunch I had the burger which wasn't bad except that I asked for medium well but I received well done, however it was still really juicy! Â The fries weren't that great, I've had better fries! Â My husband had the lobster tacos which were a complete joke! Â They should have called them celery & onion tacos, were was the lobster??? Â If you are going to charge me $18 for 3 small tacos at least let me see some big chunks of lobster!! Â All in all it wasn't a place I'll go back to, I can get a good burger almost everywhere!!!
Review Source:They have a great selection of craft beers to choose from including Innis and Gunn, 21st Amendment, and Goose Island. For apps their fried pickles are my favorite as well as the cajun fried rock shrimp. My favorite entree that I've had from there was the kobe beef burger. I believe it was a special that night. I got it cooked medium rare and it was one of the best burgers I've had out. The sliced skirt steak sandwich is also a great choice. Overall I really like Rockin' Fish. I do feel that it can be a little inconsistent at times though. Another thing is that I feel it's priced a little too high but it's worth it a try.
Review Source:We have been meaning to try this place since it opened and we finally made it happen tonight. Really good pub food. Great beer selection. Priced very well too. I had the rock shrimp tempura wrap and it was great. My husband had the cod BLT and he was a big fan. Not greasy, well seasoned. This is exactly the type of place northport needed.
Review Source:Went last night with my wife for a pre-Valentine's Day dinner. Â First trip there despite living in Northport and certainly won't be last. Â Very comfortable bar, cozy / tasteful decor and friendly / attentive staff (without being over-scripted and in your face every 5 seconds).
Sat at the bar before dinner and enjoyed a "flight" of beers. Â Can't remember which ones I had but love the concept and must say the beers themselves were each interesting and tasty. Â Nice start to the night.
Food we had was as follows:
Appetizers
a) Lobster tacos. Â Recommend. Â 3 freshly made tacos with big chunks of lobster meat in a delicate sauce... very tasty. Â Could perhaps use a tiny pinch of Cayenne pepper or something to give it a little more pep (but then I am a hot sauce nut)
b) Manhattan Clam Chowder. Â Highly Recommend. Â Just delicious... perfect.
Entrees
a) Grilled Spanish Mackerel: Â Highly Recommend. Â Whole fish delicately grilled with lemon, butter sauce. Â Some simple steamed vegetables and fresh mashed potatoes. Â Fish was perfect... a real treat and not something you find on many menus.
b) Grilled Swordfish: Â Recommend. Â Beautiful piece of fish grilled to juicy perfection. Â Delicate and flaky and flavorful.
Desert
a) Creme Brulee: Â perfect to share. Â Delicate crispy shell with smooth, silky delicious creme with a sprinkle of powdered sugar and sliced strawberries (actual red, sweet strawberries... not giant, hard, white-ish flavorless).
Add a glass of port to finish the night and you should leave Rockin' Fish satisfied and yet hungry for more.
Can't wait to go back.
We had a lovely dinner there last night, great decor, informed waitstaff, and delicious food. Â Great wine selection and excellent help making my decision. Â Everything was lovely down to the cappuccino to finish. One note, the music needs some updating, there are plenty of great mellow music selections, loose the 60's music vibe.
Review Source:After running some errands in the great little town of Northport, my girlfriend  and Iwere looking for a nice place to have lunch. After consulting yelp and driving up main st, we decided upon Rockin Fish and were glad we did. The atmosphere was perfect for what we were looking for- a nice relaxing place for a cocktail and something light to eat. We started with the lobster tacos and enjoyed them. My girlfriend was only a little upset that the sardine appetizer was unavailable. The service was very good and both the hostess and the waitress we very friendly. Our lunch came promptly and was presented well. My girlfriend had the roasted turkey sandwich while i had the fish n chips... both were better than good.
The overall experience was good and the combination of atmosphere, service and food quality earned it the four star rating. We would recommend it to others as a place to have lunch and be sure to have an enjoyable experience
Had tickets to a show at the John Engemann Theatre, went early to eat on Main Street in Northport, spotted the Rocking Fish, should have looked elsewhere. Â The food was okay however they served my husband lobster salad on a five inch hotdog roll and let me say it was not overflowing. Â I could not believe that this was meal that they would serve to a grown man for a cost of approx $30.00, don't eat here you will leave hungry. Â I had to give my husband half my dinner. Â WHAT A JOKE!!! Â There was nothing rocking about this restaurant, eat anywhere else in Northport but here.
Review Source:Let me start by saying that I REALLY want to love this place, and am somewhat saddened by the fact that this is a two star review (because it should (and could easily) be a four star review). Â
The Good: Â
The decor, beer selection, location, and appetizer / bar food selections are all excellent. Â It is the only fancier bar in the downtown Northport area with a decent beer selection. Â It is new, and thus the space has been recently renovated with a nautical-ish theme, and it is nice. Â It has about 15 or so taps that have a good craft beer selection (although they could get some more "less-mainstream" beers), and the calamari and tuna tacos are ridiculously good. Â In my experience it is somewhat rare to find a location that serves craft beer and restaurant quality food at 11 PM... so they get points for that. Â Â
The Ugly:
They just do not have their stuff together. Â I have been there to eat four times now, and every time the service is slow, and the wait staff is seemingly clueless. Â This is acceptable sometimes, because all places have bad nights, but it seems to be a recurring theme here. Â Mind you this establishment is not cheap. Â $30 entrees and $8 beers.. par for the course when paired with exceptional service... but when they make mistakes, serve slow, and then do not make up for it by comping a round of drinks, it becomes a considerable draw on the overall experience. Â
In my last visit, I was there with a group of six and the place was about half full. Â Took the waitress 15 minutes to come over to us to take our drink order. Â Ten minutes later the bartender was not even pouring our beers. Â Thirty minutes for six beers is not acceptable. Â The food came out a decent speed, but my wife's dish (tuna two ways) was overly slathered in spicy wasabi sauce. Â Raw and seared fish should be served with a hint of sauce, as to preserve the natural flavor of the meat. Â This was excessive. Â The sad part of it all is that the owner is an excellent chef and owns another restaurant not to far away the consistently produces knock-out dishes.. so I do not know what is wrong with this place.
Final thoughts.. I seem to be consistent with some other reviewers. Â I hope they take notice to these reviews and apply a little TLC, because it could easily be the best bar in town.
Great first impression! We were a rather lively party of 10 on a Saturday night during Restaurant Week. Â Our waitress was awesome...very attentive service, great knowledge of the beer and food menu, and an impressive selection on the prix fixe menu. Â The portions were generous, and the food was very good. Â Did I mention the beer menu? Â We will definitely return!
Review Source:Wow, I came here from Nevada as part of the line-crews helping to restore power to Northport and Smithtown after Huricane Sandy. Â They stayed open during the storm and I was able to stop by after working all day for some much needed food and drink. Â
Rockin Fish had the best selection of craft brews in the area. Everyting from IPAs to Stouts, and a few specialty beers such as pumpkin ales that were very tasty. Â Yes, I tried them all! (sampler available). The food was very tasty but the thing I liked the most was the great service! Â They were all extremely friendly and made me feel like I was at home drinking a beer with my friends. Great atmosphere and super friendly staff!
Went there a few weeks ago. Here's what I remember:
-Service was especially friendly and nice (bar, hostess and waitress).
-Beer list was solid.
-Ordered two beers. First tasted fine. The second tasted like the glass had been soaked in saltwater. Not sure what happened there.
-The food was good, but not oustanding.
-The bar had a nice little vibe, though it was mostly folks over 40.
Would definitely go back again. Might upgrade to four stars at that point.
It has taken me a few visits to get a review together for this much anticipated new eatery here in Northport. Let me start by saying that the decor and ambiance do not disappoint! It has a cool/hip vibe and the bar is gorgeous. When the weather is right, outside dining is truly relaxing and pleasurable. A welcomed departure from the typical spots on Main Street in this charming seaside village.
As you can see from other reviews... opinions are mixed. In my previous visits I found the food a little hit or miss but remained hopeful for two reasons. First, in the 2 years it took for this place to come together (permits, building etc) my anticipation for a winner on Main Street that had great food and was affordable affordable enough to visit  regularly, may have been set unrealistically high.  My second reason for remaining hopeful for Rockin Fish was my faith in knowing that the head chef/owner is a remarkable cook and has served me some of my favorite meals at his other establishment, Crossroads. Â
After now having eaten there 4 or 5 times, my opinion is that they are on the right road for success. I think that some of the kinks of opening a second restaurant, running a second kitchen and developing a menu that is unique to this eatery are well on their way to being worked out. A couple of the hits I have had in the past are the Scallops and Watermelon Salad. Today I had a Cod BLT that was ridiculously good. Fish was crisp, tasty and not at all greasy. Â
The staff is always friendly and I will surely be back time and time again. If you haven't been, give it a try.... if you have and it fell short, give it another try before you make up your mind. I love to see new ventures in our sweet little town do well!
After reading lot's of lackluster reviews, I wanted to at least see for myself, & I have to say I was NOT dissapointed. Â I had the fish & chips & my ladyfriend had one of the specials which was the Codfish BLT. Â Â The fish(grouper)& chips were excellent. Â FAR from the overly battered fish that one usually gets. Â The chips were your standard issue french fries, but good none the less, & the coleslaw was perfect, along w/just enough tartar sauce. Â Â Same for the codfish. Â Battered just enough & VERY crispy & w/plenty of bacon. Â The waitstaff was young & seemed somewhat inexperiencd, but that's a minor issue. Â A woman that used to work @ The Millpond for a long time is there now, so hopefully her experience in the biz will sharpen things up in the service dept. Â Â Overall, it seems (to me) that some of the kinks are out. Â Â I'll go back again.
Review Source:I don't spend much time in Northport, but I'd make the trip back for another one of Rockin' Fish's delish Kobe burgers for sure! Perfectly cooked burger topped with these crispy fried onions and cheese = Heaven. Beer selection there is awesome, and looks like they have a pretty good wine by the glass program. Added bonus is a friendly staff, especially the bartenders :) definitely check it out.
Review Source:Really wanted to like this place, but sorry, it fell short. Very short. Great looking place, staff really hustles, but at the end of the day, if your food comes up short, it's not going to work out in the long run. I do give them two thumbs up for the beer list. Any restaurant that puts up two craft beers on nitrogen pour is doing things right, at least on the beer front.
Back to the eats, the fried baby calamari was bland and barely breaded. Trying to dip the pieces into the wacky sauce boat is like playing Operation. My $21 linguine bolognese was red meat sauce at best, and it wasn't even very good red meat sauce. They broiled the bechamel sauce on the wife's seafood cannelloni which broke the sauce. They were sitting in a puddle of oil. Should have never left the kitchen like that.
Tables are very crowded, path between the bar and first row of tables was extremely norarrow, Noise level was very loud, and getting louder when we bailed. An attentive and well heeled staff still can't make up for mediocre food.
Sorry, but I don't think we will be back. Too expensive and there are far too many other places to try out.
Rockin Fish is a welcomed upgrade to Northport's Main Street restaurant options. Â I hope the others take notice. Â Here is restaurant that has a very nice decor. Â It's fish theme decor is not the tired, nautical wood and ropes cliche. Â Nice warm color palette. Â You'll immediately notice the lively din in the room.
They don't take reservations unless you have 8 people or more so expect to wait a bit at the bar which we did. Â It's a very nice, somewhat small bar so going there for a drink during dinner hours is probably not a good idea. Â They have two very large tables in the front by the windows that seat 8 or 10 people each.
Now onto the food. Â I must say, for a restaurant called Rockin Fish, fish did not dominate the menu. Â We did however, order two fish plates which were pretty good. There is a subtle Scottish undertone to the place so we had the Finnan Haddie (a baked smoked haddock and cheese dish) and a scallop dish. Â Both were very good. Â The scallops were cooked fully through and caramelized nicely and served with softened vegetables over a bed of mashed potatoes. Â A bit different than a standard seared scallops dish.
Back to the lively din. Â At the table we had to lean in and raise our voices to hear each other say "What?" a few times. Â I like a lively room but a few strategically placed acoustic panels might serve it well.
Welcome Rockin Fish! Â Raise the bar for the other older and never updated restaurants of Northport's Main Street. Â
We'll certainly be back.
My husband and I happened upon this place a few weeks ago, and we were pleasantly surprised by the food, the ambiance, and the service. Â It was great to think we could have another great restaurant in town... but then the bubble burst.
We sat outside on Friday night Sept 7 to watch the Warrior Welcome Parade, we thought we hit the lottery to have such great seats at such a great place, on such a beautiful evening.  The food was okay, definitely not good.  The bisque and the french onion soup were bland and boring, however the raw oysters and clams were fabulous, as was the watermelon salad.  The stuffed artichokes were dry and tasteless, and I don't think they could technically be called "stuffed" if they've not been stuffed with anything.  There were some random burnt bread crumbs sprinkled on top, and some cheese and olives in the center, but they definitely weren't  stuffed.  Again, the food was okay. Â
Our problem wasn't with the food. Â I had a half of my drink left when we paid our bill, at which time the table was being set up for the next turnover while we were still seated. Â I thought this in itself was rude, to not wait for us to leave. Â Although I asked for a plastic cup for my drink so that I could give up my table, apparently the cups had been misplaced. Â But the hostess wanted our table and didn't really care that I had yet to finish my drink, so she placed the menus down for the group awaiting our table and told my husband and me that we had to leave. Â It was quite appalling. I can think of 10 different ways this hostess could have addressed the issue, but she opted to be unmannerly and outrageous. Â I explained that I still hadn't finished my drink, and I was shocked by what she was doing. Â
In all of my dining experiences, from burger joints to fine dining, I have never experienced such blatant rudeness. Â It seems that Rockin Fish doesn't care to start off on the right foot, nor do they care how they treat their customers.
Never again.
Armed with a gift certificate and a hungry fam, we did  Rockin Fish last night.  Was concerned by the mixed reviews but was pleasantly surprised.  Indoor seating was at first noisy and weirdly layed out but once the window side table cleared out, the  ambiance ( and noise) improved).   Outdoor seating looks fine, but I'm no fan. Â
I had a very tasty and filling lamb burger, replete w/ feta cubes, tasty yogurt sauce and the tomatoes lettuce and onion to make it a great burger experience.  My wife had the scallops , which were plentiful big sea scallops cooked well, daughters had a Cajun seafood wrap which seemed too heavily fried and the tuna dish which was small strips of seared tuna on a bed of mashed potatoes ( perhaps a better pairing could've been made and the strips would've been better if it were a tuna steak).    This was supplemented by  a good Cesar and house salad, and a very good bottle of wine for $30. Â
Wait staff was very attentive and knowledgeable of the many dishes (she came away from our table learning more about bechamel). No dessert was necessary after a filling meal.  The selection of wines were vast as were the beers.  i suspect i will return for a pre theater meal, some interesting oyster concoctions  and a couple of pints.
We wanted this place to be awesome, but it wasn't. The beer selection was great, the  service was good the food is absolutely awful, the burger was $16 and totally lacking in flavor, the bun was hard and tasted like it had been frozen, it was one of the worst burgers we've ever eaten. The fish and chips was such a disappointment too, both the fish and the chips are so obviously frozen and lacked taste and for $19 are daylight robbery, they weren't even cooked well. We won't be back.
Review Source:This place COULD be great. It COULD be our standby but it falls short every time. The food is just not good. From the $14 burger to the $25 lobster roll it is awful.Twice now my meal went back uneaten because it was inedible. The place is beautiful inside and out but we won't be back.
Review Source:Had a great meal in a very friendly neighborhood restaurant tonight. Â Rockin Fish is a new Main Street gastropub with food ranging from kobe burgers (fantastic) Â to oysters, calamari, and a Tomahawk steak for two. The interior is calm, and very inviting....great neighborly feel... Very inviting! The bar seatsbabout ten and serves a great wine selection, delicious san gria and manynlocal beers on tap. My group loved everything from the ahi tuna to the rock shrimp wrap leaving room fornthe fried oreos! Â This place has beautiful outdoor seating off the main street in a nice candle lit courtyard and with great service. Â say hi to vanessa at the bar...very friendly! Â
There are many restaurants on main street but Rockin Fish offers something to trynfrom the menu everytime you visit, along with specials written on a blackboard as you enter. Â I strongly recommend this place and if i lived closer to Northport, this would be my home away from home for food and drinks.
A fresh spot with fine choices and a Southampton feel! The menu is spot on and caters to either the wine or beer enthusiast. We had the clams casino appetizer that was enough for two. The clams were done nice but would have liked the toppings a little crispier for that casino taste. Then moved onto the Kobe burgers while sipping glasses of BV Cabernet. The wine list is impressive while offering nice glasses of or decently priced bottles. If you are a SilverOak fan here is where its at!
Review Source:Rockin' Fish did not rock our world. Went on Sat night to celebrate our anniversary and was excited to try Rockin' Fish,. We came prepared to wait and wait we did. After checking in w/the hostess (their were as least 2 and a manager(?) standing at the podium) we sat at the bar and had a drink. We checked back in after our allotted 30 mins and was told it was still going to be a bit, we were the next 2 top up, so we ordered an app. We finally saw 2 tables of 2 getting up and settled our bill only to see 2 other couples sat. When the hostess was approached she said she saw us eating at the bar and assumed we did not want the table. She was apologetic, however, at this time there was still nowhere to seat us. After some time I walked the few feet back over and asked what the plan was. The Manager (?not sure, she did not identify herself) said they were waiting for a table to get up and she had told the bartender the next round of drinks was on them. Nor she or the bartender said a word to us... After an hour or more wait we were finally seated, some way to start an anniversary dinner.
The wait would not have bothered us had they put as much thought into the flavor of their dishes as they did decorating the space. The restaurant is a wonderful space w/exposed brick, great chandeliers, and more. The food was thoroughly and utterly disappointing.
* Calamari app, served w/spicy marinara
Calamari was lightly fried and I'm pretty sure hand cut at the restaurant, so pretty good but not only was the marinara not spicy which was fine, but it was so bland I needed to add salt & tabasco and at $14 there should have been double the amount on the plate.
*Crisp Red Snapper - great to look at but flavorless, served over mashed potatoes w/sliced cherry tomatoes it needed some type of sauce or lemon or anything to make it taste like a bland white fish
*Octopus Salad - sent it back, it was over salted (so that's where all the salt went) hard and inedible
*Shrimp Fra Diavolo w/Angel Hair used same marinara as calamari but w/a generous amount of red pepper flakes thrown in. Shrimp were decent, sauce was not
We left disappointed, probably not to return. Not a good way to end an anniversary dinner and as it was my choice I feel responsible for the terrible meal
A new spot on Main st!
We sat outside on a nice summer evening. I usually don't like sitting outside in restaurants  because it seems like you can get forgotten by the wait staff. Not at this place. Service was first rate. I think they had more servers outside then inside. Our server Lauren was excellent. She made some really good suggestions on the menu items. that worked out well They have a bunch of beers on tap. The food, Rock shrimp, battered, deep fried. Steak for 2, we split it 3 ways and had plenty left to take home. It looked like something Fred Flintstone would have eaten. Combined that with an outstanding scallop dish. we were too full for desert. I'll be back and do an update on the deserts.
