The fourth star is for the experience.
Standard bar/ pub food. Nothing is bad, nothing is great. You get solid unhealthy comfort food- burgers, fries, fried clams. Good selection of beers, both on tap and in bottles. The outdoor tables are great, and beckon a bygone era of roadside stands- even if the road is the noisy and heavily traveled NY RT 25A.
The fourth star is because there are just some days you want a burger and a beer in the sunshine, and for that, The Shack never disappoints. The staff are always friendly and attentive, and overall, satisfied customer. See you at Tavern on the Gravel!
This place is alright.
To be honest I had a little bit higher of expectations because it looked like one of those amazing hole in the wall places on the side of the road.
I ordered the fried clams and I wasn't impressed...I couldn't taste anything except the batter they were fried in. I saw the muscles that other people ordered and they looked delicious so I would be willing to go back to try some other things on the menu. Overall though I think this place is WAY too overpriced for a little shack on the side of the road. For $15 in town you can get a quarter pound lobster and muscles...pretty sure the fried clams plate was $9-$11 here if my memory serves correctly, I'd much rather get lobster and muscles for a couple dollars more.
I dont know what else could make this place more awesome, besides it possibly being located on a beach.
NOT standard "bagged" fried clams as one reviewer posted. Everything was SURPRISINGLY FRESH! Crab Cakes, Fish and Chips, Â Fried Clams, and a couple of Coronas...just right on an early May day. Great music on in the background, and cool cars and bikes cruising past. Beautiful. I don't know why there aren't more joints like this on the island.
