This Gringo loves Gringas! I mean, who doesn't? Let me give you two reasons why I love Gringas. One is, of course, you ladies. I love you everything about you and you smell so nice too. And for the other reason why I love Gringas. Well, you are my favorite botana at Rocky's Tacos. I am a sucker, and a sucker for anything pork. This Mexican appetizer does not disappoint this pork lover either. With a perfectly grilled flour tortilla topped with "al pastor" seasoned pork and melted Chihuahua cheese this botana was a perfect start to my decadently delivered lunch from Rocky's Tacos.
As I stated in many previous reviews. I love tacos, and as I started above I love pork...and Gringas (both kinds) too, of course! Well Rocky's sent a scrumptious lunch over to my apartment the other day. This lunch consisted of the infamous Gringas, Suadero Steak Tacos and La Potosina Torta. The Gringas, as you know, were delicious and absolutely my favorite part of the meal. The Suadero Steak Tacos were great too. Carne Suadero is a thin cut of beef from the brisket that is sautéed in a spicy chile and tomato sauce. They were delicious. ¡Que Sabroso! And La Potosina Torta was great too. This torta style reigning from the great Mexican state of San Luis Potosà was jam-packed with breaded pork, picante chipotle sauce and melted Chihuahua cheese. ¡Que decadente!
This was one great delivery Rocky's. Everything came caliente y picante. Everything else looks great on the menu too and they have a plethora of tortas named after Mexican states to famous fútbol players. I truly enjoyed my delivered meal and would definitely order another time. And whether you are a gringa or a gringo, get the Gringas! It is something that is not to be missed. ¡Buen Provecho!
I ordered a burrito without cheese or sour cream because i'm lactose intolerant and these instructions went ignored. instead of having a night out with friends, i have to go home and spend the night in throwing up because of this place's CARELESSNESS. great job rocky's tacos. they'll make your saturday night.
Review Source:We ordered lunch from Rocky's the other day via Grubhub. The delivery was prompt and the man who delivered the food was very nice.
Although it is a taco joint, their specialty seems to be sandwiches. They offer a huge assortment, all named after international soccer stars and teams. I got 3 different types for lunch and then an order of tacos for Christopher to take with him to work. He said the tacos were "good", which is about as animated as he gets over anything.
Mom and I thought the sandwiches were awesome. Christopher was not quite as enthused as we were. I don't know why, because I thought his sandwich was delicious, so go figure.
First let me say, the sandwiches are huge. The bread is very nicely toasted and substantial and the fillings are flavorful and generous. They must have at least 30 different sandwiches, all of which are unique.
I chose mom's carefully as she does not like anything spice. I got her one with ham, cheese, guacamole and veggies. It was really good, if perhaps a tad messy to eat. I had one with Mexican steak. I added avocado to the order and it was really very good. Christopher's sandwich had ham and bacon and other things I don't recall, but as I said, I thought it was very tasty, even if he didn't finish it.
We will try this place again, because choosing was almost overwhelming. I'll just get Christopher tacos and we will all be happy. Rocky's is unique and a soccer / sandwich lover's paradise!!
My wife and I ordered tacos the first two times we went here, until she noticed that all of the Mexican families there were munching tortas. On our next visit, we went torta and haven't looked back.
Skip the tacos, get the tortas. The tacos are good, but there are dozens of equally good places to get tacos, Â including one or two right near here. The tortas, though -- man. Delicious. Seemingly endless choices and combinations, many of them with amusing futbol-related names. My favorites are the standard mole-smothered Poblano (shredded chicken with mole, avocado, queso fresco) and the pork-tastic La Mohamed (seasoned pork with ham and cheese).
I'm really eager to try the breakfast tortas, but I think I'll wait to do so on my next hangover.
In Albany Park, the density of taquerias is only matched by the number of tube socks salesman with their carts. Â And yet, Rocky's tacos has become my go-to joint over all the others.
First off, they make a nice taco al pastor - my favorite Mexican dish of late. Â I've had them many times and, without fail, the meat has some tenderness and is not just chared bits like in so many other taquieries.
Second, the number of tortas they have is mind boggling and I'm amused how they are all themed to tie into the restaurant's soccer motif. Â Lots of different kinds of grilled, breaded and dried meats with a variety of sauce and cheese combos - anyone who is not a vegetarian will surely find one that's enticing.
I'm also partial to the Huateques Futboleros  - giant plates of meats and cheese served with cilantro, onion and tortillas. The El Super Golazo has diced meat from pork chops, seasoned park, dried steak, green peppers and cheese and is enough for two people easy.
Finally, the service is quick and friendly and I never feel like I'm an intruding gringo as families eat and watch Univision. The vibe is really nice and without it, I'd probably have given just three stars as it is , after all, just a taqueria. But a really solid, dependable one.
With all apologies to fellow Yelp-er Larisa O., I live around the corner from this place and that section of Montrose isn't that bad. Â
Rocky's tacos is exactly as Larisa O. describes. Â Open, cheerful and friendly. Â Great food, fast! Â That fact for me is always nice, especially since I find myself going there more often with my one and three year old daughter's. Â You give me a clean kid's chair and a winning attitude once my 1 year starts throwing chips, and will come back again and again. Â
The fact that the food is outstanding is icing on the cake!
But the number one reason to go to Rocky's are the torta's! Â Biggest and best selection of torta's in Chicago.
I recommend the following:
"Torta Amercanista" and something called a Gringa.
The Gringa is simply a quesadilla with their delicious homemade Al Pastor pork, folded inside, then melted. Â Both of the above mentioned items are worth the price of admission. Â
Also, for purists, anything on the menu can be had with both flour and corn tortilla. Â Not a unique, but nonetheless, nice touch.
This is on a really run-down strip of Montrose, but its a great place to get a quick bite for barely any money.
1) It's cheerful & clean. Check out the chandelier adorned with miniature soccer balls, and the bright yellow walls adorned with pictures of local soccer teams.
2) The chicken tacos were totally delicious. I ordered 2 and had to order another. My friend's carne asada tacos were great, too. Â The salsa on the table in bottles is garlicky and the best I've had from those squeeze bottles. The salsa they put in a dish had chopped garlic in it, and was so good we asked for more.
3) The food comes quickly, and the waitress is a doll with an ample smile. That makes all the difference.
Go here, you will be happy.
I pretty much live a block from here, and it sure as hell fills up any cravings i have for Mexican food.
The pricing on some of the entrees can throw you off, but given how much they give you - it's not something I'd complain about.
They deliver promptly, the folks in there are pretty nice, and the soccer theme they have going there is pretty interesting enough.
Considering they've got quite the competition for the area that has a Mexican joint around every block, I think they hold up pretty well. Great food, great service when you eat there, and fair prices.
Nothing for me to really knock em on from my experiences.
I'm surprised at the sub-par reviews. Sure this is like a total hole-in-the-wall. But whatevers.
I've eaten here twice, and I think this place is pretty great. They make the guacamole on the spot -- or at least I assume that's what there doing behind the counter smashing stuff. Guac = Fan-freaking-tastic. I've also ordered the vegetarian burrito twice and both times, while it was pretty no frills, I thought it was good as well. We'll definitely be heading back to this place.
