Late night on a Friday, hungry! Â Pulled up to Roxane and grabbed a seat on their sidewalk patio. Â We arrived at 10:15, kitchen closed at 10p. Â Guess what, they let us order! Â That was so nice of them. Â Of course, deep down I was concerned about getting cold and old food, but that wasn't the case. Â We kept is simple with nachos and empanadas and I was pleased to see that both of them tasted great and were hot and fresh! Â There was a dj playing music and the sounds were great. Â A nice ending to a long Friday! Â Oh and my Vodka Gimlet was on point as well!
Review Source:Food was great, service was lacking. The food was cooked well and enjoyable. I had a side salad and 4 oz filet with red wine reduction and garlic mashed potatoes. Steak was cooked correctly and the sauce was delicious and reasonably priced at $11.99. (They had an 8oz option available for $18.99). My friends both had the sea bass and said it was very good. Â Dessert was delicious we split the butter brownie and bread pudding.
The service was very slow. I had to ask for a water refill twice. During our meal the server came up, interrupted our conversation by saying "Hey do you want more wine" all three of us looked at our glasses, he was probably talking to me as I was the closest to finished but we all declined not 10% sure who he was even talking to. He forgot to put in our dessert order, we had one member of our group who was going to the airport, we ordered the cobbler and he informed us it took about 20 minutes, we changed our order because we didn't have that much time. It took 25 minutes to get our dessert that was supposed to be the fast option since we were running out of time, I can only imagine had we gotten the cobbler she would have missed her flight.
I would go back again for the food but would have to think twice due to the service, maybe it is better on a busier night.
We went for Clayton Restaurant Week. I found the food quite tasty, I had the seared ahi tuna for an appetizer, the sea bass for my entree and the peanut butter pie (WOW!) for dessert. I love the Restaurant Week concept! The service and ambiance was a bit brutal. Slippery Nipple shots were flying over head as we entered. The server, although friendly, was really slow. Bread, hot sauce, wine, ice cream - we waited forever for it all. It is extremely loud in the restaurant, you can do better in Clayton.
Review Source:Both the tuna tartar and baked brie appetizers are ~fantastic~! Â Get one! Â (Or both.) Â 8oz filet entree is actually 2 cuts of meat - thin, spread out cuts instead of thick ones so I believe that's why my request of rare-to-medium-rare came out as medium (thin cuts cook faster & are harder to guage). Â
Gooey butter brownie was nothing special, but brioche bread pudding was some of the best I've ever had!
Server Christina was also on point. Â Always attentive, FAST, and friendly. Â She said she's been here a little over a month. Â I'll be requesting her when I come back.
Lots of fun people watching; a little loud on a Saturday night, but that could be explained by the Cardinals game on all TVs & the 2 bachelorette parties.
*Slight change to previous statement: LOUD house music started at 10pm. Â Now, I'm a fan - Guetta, AVICII, Shulz...I like them all. Â But when your restaurant is still filled with diners of all ages finishing their dinner, you have to work into club levels of volume and bass. Â Even though the service would've raised my rating a star level, the loudness of the music dropped it back down to 3.
We used to go here all the time about a year ago and it was always quality. Something has changed and the food has gone directly downhill.
I ordered a Margarita Pizza which showed up with sausage on it. The very description of a margarita pizza is tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil. Â Was ok for me, but not everyone eats meat including some of the people in my group...it's good I tasted before passing it around.
Server handled it well, but that was a big kitchen mistake!
We visited Roxane after a night out with friends at Cardwell's. Â I guess it's one of the only late night bars in Clayton. Â It wasn't that busy, and they had moved the tables out of the dining area to make room for dancing.
Oh how I tried to refrain from singing the Police song with the same name. Â But liquor took over, and I belted it out for no reason.
I've been here twice for dinner.
I do not remember what I ordered to eat the 1st time I went, but I do remember the cherry limeade (shows where my priorities are!). It had fresh limes and had a wonderful kick to it. It was refreshing and great for summer.
This time, I ordered the key lime martini and the chicken, red pepper, fresh mozzarella sandwich with fries.
The martini was great. The bartender really managed to blend the flavors in the description well, and didn't skimp on the liquor either.
Their fries are so good! Not steak fries, but not steak n shake fries either. The seasoning was flavorful, cajun, and nice and crispy, but not greasy at all.
The dish portion size was great, enough for what I call a boy-sized meal. When they say fresh mozzarella, they mean it. It was delicious and plentiful, literally sliding off the chicken breast. The chicken was perfectly cooked, moist and crispy.
The service was good as usual. I remember last time the service was good as well. Both times I've come in, I've noticed a family feel. Not family in terms of clientele, but in the sense that they welcome you in and someone says thanks for coming in on the way out.
Oh, and I used a http://restaurant.com coupon, both times, actually - no problems at all, service was still great.
As a note, both times I've come it has either been after 5, or on a weekend, so I just parked in the lot across the street that is a pay lot 8-5 M-F.
I would imagine this would be a great place for drinks after work, but I don't usually end up in Clayton.
I'll be back!
cheap ingredients, tasteless food. too bad it's wasting a spot in a great location.
we had the calamari appetizer. it was smothered in sweet Thai sauce from a bottle. the salad contained four thin 1-inch slices of previously grilled and refrigerated tuna, cheap canned tasteless black olives, romaine lettuce, an overcooked boiled egg (the green kind overcooked) and watery tasteless, canned red peppers.
the steak sandwich was on a cheap white bread baguette. it was just meat, basic cheese and ketchup on the side. way worse than a pen station sandwich and twice as expensive.
the house red wine was good.
they can't do nothing for us...
I will NOT be coming back here.
If you order drinks I strongly suggest paying with cash only. I paid with a credit card and discovered several days later that the bartender took it upon herself to add a significant amount of gratuity to my credit card charges. I signed the receipt and wrote in a 20% tip, but apparently this wasn't enough so she added an additional amount when she ran my card (after I left of course).
I've contacted the manager but have yet to receive a call back; I'm sure this isn't the first time it's happened but it will be the last time I visit Roxane.
I need to lower my rating from 3 to 2 stars, and they are pushing 1 star.
Second time here. Â Service wasn't much better. Â Took quite a while for anyone to approach the table after we arrived. Â We rarely saw him throughout the meal, or he would do quick drive-by's grabbing a plate without asking us if we needed anything, esp. when I thought it was obvious we were just sitting there waiting for our bill.
I was enthusiastic about the variety in the menu the last time I was here for lunch, but this time, I realized that most of the "variety" is in small plates only - tapas sized portions for ~$10 each - not full meals. Â On the normal-sized entrees, they only had burgers, sandwiches, salads, and pizza. Â That is not much variety at all for normal sized entrees.
Appetizer was "Bistro Fries" (~$5, see picture) Â This was freshly made fries with some potato skin left on served in a cone with ketchup and an aioli (mayo mixture). Â These were fine.
So I tried the Goat Cheese & Mushroom Pizza with Arugula (~$10). Â I had 2 slices and couldn't eat anymore. Â It was awful - dry and tasteless. Â First, the arugula is dropped in a loose pile in the center of the pizza, which is a serious pain to distribute to the different slices. Â And with no sauce or sticky cheese on the pizza, there is nothing to make the arugula or any of the toppings stick. Â That's right, I said no sauce --- there was so much goat cheese on the pizza, I was guessing that this was meant to serve as the base (sauce) and the cheese. Â So there was a lot of goat cheese. Â It was thick and dry with not much flavor on its own. Â The mushrooms seemed fresh, and there was a variety, so that was ok. Â But there was no taste. Â No sauce, no olive oil, nothing to serve as a base flavor for the pizza or any flavor for that matter. Â And did I mention nothing stuck to the slices, so every time you pick up a slice, all the toppings fell off, so that it was just pizza bread, and you had to pick up the goat cheese, mushrooms, and arugula by hand and put it back on the slice. Â *sigh* Â Just frustrating.
This place does not even deserve 1 star, but since Yelp won't give me the option of negative 5, I will settle for 1.
My husband and I recently moved close to Clayton and decided to deviate from our normal restaraunts/bars and head to Roxanne for apps/drinks. Â Walking in it looked cute, dark and a perfect place for a glass of wine. Â After that it all went wrong.
To start, the service was TERRIBLE. Â It took at least 15-20 minutes to get our drink order in and another 15-20 to get our drinks. Â Also asked for water and it came out 30 minutes later. Â The food was definitely meh at best. Â We ordered the calamari which was frozen calamari with thai chili sauce which was good about 10 years ago. Â We also got the goat cheese something or another (not memorable). Â
Once our waitress served our food she basically disappeared. Â No second round of drinks, no clearing our disgusting food, no water refill. Â In fact I had to flag down the hostess to have her find our waitress, which she did so looking very annoyed at us. Â
Our waitress did not apologize or acknowledge the fact we had been waiting for 30 minutes. Â We would have stayed for another drink if there was actually a chance of us getting one,
This place really give Clayton a bad name.....I can't wait to go back to my usual place (begins and ends with "S" and has great service and wine)
Roxane seems to have gotten a bad rap around here, so I just want to chime in some support. I came here a couple Thursdays ago in the evening and had a great experience.
We tried a bunch of small plates. Â
Flash Fried Spinach -- damn tasty and a good portion, unfortunately some of the spinach on the bottom got a bit soaked in the oil and wasn't crunchy.
Wasabi and ginger tuna -- very tasty, served on a tangy jicama slaw and came with a side of flash fried spinach. Â If I would have known this, I would have skipped the individual order of the spinach.
Whisky ginger flat iron steak -- cooked medium and quite delicious. Â However the best part was the side of whipped sweet potatoes. Â These weren't even mentioned on the menu. Â Absolutely delicious and the texture was so smooth, I thought I was eating velvet.
Gnocchi w/ aspragus in parmesan cream sauce -- fantastic and a huge portion. Â Probably the best value of the plates I tried.
Also went for a cup of the clam chowder. Â It was actually tomato-based, which threw me off at first, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
The cocktails were good as well, but a bit overpriced at $9. Â Our service was great.
Roxanne is a nice casual spot with some tasty food and a large menu. Â If you don't like small plates, there are plenty of sandwich and pizza options.
Roxane follows the standard Clayton formula of overcharging and delivering mediocrity. Â The atmosphere was trendy, to be sure, but I don't go out just to look at the walls. Â My criteria for Yelp stars is usually food, service, and value. Â Roxane has only location, location, location.
One of my trips here was with a large group and after the first round of drinks, our waitress went "poof," never to be seen or heard from again. Â From then on, we had to operate a complicated system where the men would fight through the crowds of Chads guarding the bar to get drinks for themselves and the women (a lengthy process), and the women had to stagger bathroom trips so that enough people were available to watch purses and chairs to make sure neither were taken in the crowded and chaotic dining area.
It wasn't a bad experience, just an annoying one, especially when coupled with driving, parking, and high prices. Â As with nearly every bar and restaurant in Clayton, there's just no compelling reason to go here.
This place was recommended to me by a friend as a must-visit when I moved to St. Louis. I was extremely excited about going because I had heard good things about it and I love that area. That being said, everything was pretty good. I went with my cousin for lunch around 1ish and got lucky with the parking. I was able to get a front row spot and walk in with ease. It was not crowded at all, but the people looked a little bit annoyed to see me. Once seated, that feeling disappeared. I had the french dip sliders and my cousin had a burger. I heard the burgers were fabulous and I might try that next time. For lunch, I'm not sure I'll be back. I would like to visit for dinner and drinks!
Review Source:I met a friend for appetizers and drinks here prior to the Yelp Elite event at Miso next door. Â The bartender was the only server to be seen, so she was incredibly busy. Â Despite the slow service, she was very friendly and gave us a deal on happy hour even though we were one minute late for it. Â The drinks were poured pleasantly strong and the small plates we tried were okay. Â The flash fried spinach was good, the queso blanco was just all right. Overall, it has a very Clayton vibe with lots of business folks heading here after work and pretty high prices on food. Â The decor is nice, but like most bars the bathroom looked like it has been used and abused by the drunkards.
Review Source:This is the best part of the restaurant: the Yelp star rating expertly describes my experience at Roxane:
Meh.
Salad: Meh
Service: Meh
Noisy Clientele: Meh
Value of the $25 Restaurant Week Deal I got: Meh
My chair leg kept getting stuck in the floor grate it was placed over. Who thought that was a good idea?
Every so often I am so flabbergasted by an experience that it's hard to know where to start...
I guess let's start with parking. It's Clayton. Parking sucks. Clayton's parking situation sucks more than the combined suckage of every vacuum EVER created by Hoover, Dyson and Oreck in the past 3 decades. Ok, so we're off to a decent start.
Enter Roxane on a Friday night at 9:30pm- a very trendy, modern bar/restaurant/more+ (I'll get to the more+ in a minute). The atmosphere generated by the physical space and decorations was excellent- low mood lighting, trendy near-retro decor, all very tasteful. Â It DID strike me as odd that there was a DJ setting up at the hostess desk though, but I guess I was too enamored by the decorations.
I wish I could say the same thing for the clientele - they seemed to consist of mostly freshman college students- the type that usually pledge. Of course, since it's Clayton, you've also got a classic level of shallow pretentiousness on top of those earlier shortcomings.
In short, the calm, classy atmosphere was blasted away by the boisterous drone of insipid conversation and boasting. I could barely hear myself think, let alone try to make conversation between my girlfriend and my mother mere inches from me.
My mother and I met up with the Steph who was already seated at our table- a table ponderously poised in the center of the archway between one room and another. The clearance between our table and the wall was *MAYBE* 8 inches. That's when the DJ turned his dials and the glow-stick music started belting out of the surround sound speakers.
But I guess things were going ok at this point... we ordered corn fritters, and two servings of crab cakes ($10!), a spinach salad, a hamburger pizza and their house mac and cheese. It was at about this point that we noticed that the patrons at the table next to us leave, and their table was promptly broken down and removed. I remember making some joke like, "what, are they making room on the dance floor for the East-European Discotech?"
Irony is such a cruel relentless bitch.
Slowly at first, ever so slowly the room starts to fill with the above mentioned clientele... all sauced up and at the time in their lives when they get a pass on being asses, their half full drinks and uncoordinated paws at eye level while we try to enjoy a meal. My sides started to chafe from the constant flow of people trying to squeeze past me into the room beyond and the SCREAMS from the girls at the table next to us, who I can only assume were betting large sums on a game of Yahtzee were giving me a migraine (Sure, it was Yahtzee- there were dollar bills and dice involved, what else could it have been?) .
It was pandemonium. We found ourselves in the middle of a sea of unwashed post-adolescences filled with alcohol, threatening to bump and grind us to nausea. WHILE WE WERE STILL EATING.
Our waitress, when she could be found, apologized profusely at every turn. I can't blame her though, because I can't imagine being able to keep my composure while wading through droves of spoiled rich kids flagging you down for more Bud. Heck, while she was attending to us the random drunky or floozy would tap her on the back and ask for more beer.
Seriously.
The biggest disappointment was how FREAKING SPECTACULAR our food tasted. Everything, (except the spinach salad which was SICKENINGLY sweet) was ABSOLUTELY perfect. I just could not bring myself to enjoy anything through all the hubbub.
We couldn't even finish our meal, the discomfort (and the surrounding mob) became so intense. I finished eating my leftovers in my kitchen at home.
This abysmal experience for a total of $70 dollars (plus tip) for three diners? Never again. Not at night, not on a weekend, MAYBE not EVEN on a lazy Wednesday at 3:00pm. I am so disappointed and appalled by the unceremonious way the restaurant spontaneously transformed into Discotech at the expense of its diners. The owner(s) should be ashamed of squandering the immense talents of their chefs by inflicting us with this blatant incompetence (or perhaps, their blatant disregard for the customer). Own a night club -OR- a fine restaurant , sir... not both.
I went to Roxane tonight with Andy and his mom. Although they had bread pudding on the menu, I DIDN'T ORDER IT.
Let that sink in for a minute. (Look at my nickname if you don't get it).
Okay, now I'll explain.
Roxane was a two star experience for me, and that's not even factoring in the fact that parking sucked (it is Clayton after all -- parking usually ALWAYS sucks) and our waitress sucked even more.
No, the two stars is for the atmosphere of this awful place.
We came around 9:30 on a Friday night, which in retrospect, was probably a bad move on our part. When we arrived, the place was pretty crowded, but I attributed that to the fact that it was Clayton Restaurant Week. I had reservations, so we were seated right away.
Our waitress took a while to come over, but again -- Restaurant Week. We started with a few appetizers: crab cakes and corn fritters. Both came out in a reasonable amount of time, and both were quite delicious. The corn fritters were amazing!
It was around this time that a lot of the other diners started wrapping up their meals and leaving. It was also around this time that the music started getting louder. Shortly after the table behind us left, a few waiters moved that table away.
"Oh, they're making room for the other diners," Andy commented. The tables WERE packed really close together. We thought nothing else of it.
Our entrees came out about 10 minutes later. I ordered the cheeseburger pizza (bacon, mozzarella, beef) with french fries. Andy ordered the mac and cheese (with bacon, mozz, and tomatoes). Our food was really good. AMAZING, even. My pizza was delish, and the fries were seasoned perfectly. Andy proclaimed his mac and cheese "The Best He's Ever Eaten". It was good. Super good.
However, shortly after our entrees arrived, the music got louder. And louder. We realized that the large table behind us was moved because the dining area was, in fact, turning into a dance floor. A fucking DANCE FLOOR.
The night from that point on was surreal. The crowd basically surrounded our table. I swear someone's ass was in my face as I was trying to eat my pizza. The table of 20-somethings on my left were playing a really loud game of Yahtzee or Bunco or something. People were gyrating to Lionel Richie and Justin Timberlake while I was trying to enjoy my meal. It was surreal.
Not even 1/4 way through our meal, we had decided that we couldn't stay. We flagged down the waitress and asked for the check. She immediately apologized and informed us that Roxane turns into "Club Roxane" at night. Thanks, Captain Obvious!
We paid for our meal and hightailed it out of there.
A number of things could have made this event more tolerable:
A. Roxane needs to figure out what it's going to be. If you want to be Club Roxane after 9pm, DON'T SERVE FOOD after that time. Unsuspecting patrons have no idea what they're getting themselves into. It's not fair.
B. If you do, in fact, want to be a club AND a restaurant, separate the dining area and dance floor at the very least. The food at Roxane was DELICIOUS, but we couldn't enjoy our meal because of the fratties shaking their asses next to our table.
C. The waitress should have informed us about Club Roxane the moment we were seated. "Hey, I just want to let you guys know that it gets REALLY crowded and loud around 10pm here," would have worked PERFECTLY. We would have left if we would have known what was in store.
I feel bad giving Roxane 2 stars, because the food was spectacular. But the atmosphere was disastrous. This was by far the worst dining experience I've had in a WHILE.
It was so bad that I didn't take pictures of my food. It was so bad I DIDN'T ORDER BREAD PUDDING!
I want to come back, but I'll be back for lunch. Or dinner on a quiet Tuesday night. Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night? Never again.
The best part about Roxane for me was the atmosphere and decor. It's a trendy looking place, yet still inviting and fun.
The food was ok. Not a huge selection or unique dishes, and nothing really jumped out saying "order me"! The crab dip was ok, a little too creamy. The house salad was good as it had bacon and blue cheese with a vinaigrette.
The wine selection was surprisingly smaller than I expected and some of the brands were ones I have bought at the grocery store or Walgreen's. I know the prices and I'm sorry to say I won't be paying $6.50 a glass for a $10 bottle of wine...
The service was good and quick. I will probably come back to Roxane's anyway, but I was not very impressed. Hope next time is better.
Worst waitress of all time. She was incredibly rude, we saw her once the entire time we were there even though it was not busy. Finally received our bill and waited and waited for her to come back and ring it out (credit card). After nearly 20 minutes scraped together the cash we had to cover the bill and did not leave a tip. To top it off she had the nerve to walk outside and give us the change as if she was mad about it! I've waited tables before and would never expect a tip after treating my tables like that. If it had been busy or under staffed in general I would have been understanding about the lack of service but that was not the case. On the bright side my meal was really good. I highly recommend the french fries, they are so good! Good fries or not though awful and non existent service make me want to avoid this place like the plague.
Review Source:I cant think of a single thing wrong with Roxanes and I have been there many times for Happy Hour apps, lunch or sitting at the bar drinking Irish coffees in winter with a friend or two. Â The happy hour appetizer specials (cheap!) are truly formidable. Â Some real exotic ones including steamed mussels. Â The service is great. Â Tammy in the back room is especially efficient and is easy on the eyes too. Â Fans of Russell wont be disappointed.
The outdoor seating is very nice too. Â This place has it all.
This place just makes me want to say, "Feh."
The menu is really generic: pasta, salads, meat, chicken, mashed potatoes, vegetables, sandwiches. I wouldn't say that the food was BAD, it was just so unimpressive, and really kind of overpriced for what was served. The server was very nice, everything came out in a timely fashion. Nothing was impressive or even especially good. I would probably give this place a three, but I feel like it needs to get knocked down a little bit from the current reviews. It's okay but absolutely nothing special and for your $15-20 an entree, you can get more bang for the buck elsewhere. The wine was pretty good, but the food was a little heavy for a "wine bar."
Note that there is indoor smoking in the front room. Wasn't there some kind of law passed about this? (Yes, there was.)
After a happy hour last night, six of us headed to Roxanne in Clayton. Â It had been several years since my last visit, but I remembered a large menu, packed restaurant/bar, and well-cooked food.
That is not what we experienced last night. Â We walked in around 9pm and the place was near empty. Â A DJ was setting up in the hostess area, and we were quickly seated to a table. Â Drink service was quick, but when asked about house wines, our waitress admitted that she had no idea how they tasted. Â Maybe beer would have been a safer choice.
The menu consisted of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and some entrees. Â Not much variety here. Â The burgers were well received, as was the macaroni and cheese. Â My sister and I split a house salad, which was decent, and a ham and smoked gouda toasted sandwich. Â The cheese on our "toasted" sandwich was not even melted, and our seasoned fries were limp. Â Taste was decent, but given the fact that we were some of the only diners there, I was expecting better.
The DJ started blasting music around 9:30pm, which made conversation at our table difficult...it seemed that he could have turned the volume down, since: 1) we were some of the only people there 2) there is no room to dance 3) there was no one attempting to dance.
Overall, I was very disappointed, and do not plan to go back unless I hear in the local foodie news that drastic changes have been made.
We were part of a large group who met up on a Saturday evening. We had never been here before and it seemed like a decent place at first. The drinks were a bit pricey so we switched to beer but it was the food and service that really bummed us out.
My husband and I weren't super hungry and thought splitting the Surf and Turf skewers would be plenty of food considering what everyone else around us was enjoying. One friend had a heaping bowl of calamari so we were looking forward to lot's of shrimp and steak. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. Shocked is a better word. We were literally brought a plate with TWO shrimp and FOUR bite-sized pieces of steak. This set us back $10.
Our waitress did an okay job of serving us however as the evening wore on it took longer and longer to get our drinks. I also noticed that one gentleman in our group was consistently served his drink about 5-10 min. before the rest of us even though our orders were taken at the same time. Perhaps she thought he was cute? This does not mean that you should ignore the rest of your table.
I was upset about our experience and wrote a comment email on the restaurant's website but have not received any response. If they had done something, even issued and apology, I would not be writing this review.
First experience at Roxanne's for lunchtime: Â Our waitress was really attractive but so rude to my coworker to the point it was hilarious. Â It was as if she was a jilted ex-girlfriend or something. Â The salads and sandwiches were pretty tasty but the atmosphere was very uncomfortable. Â
I'm fairly certain this service is an isolated incident since all my friends have said the service is pretty good.
Second experience drink on the weekend: Â The waitresses here are incredibly good looking (wow, I really seem to harp on that). Â The crowd is about mid-20s to 30's and well to do. Â Good place to catch a drink with a girl.
I'm impressed with Roxane's menu. They've really developed it since it was Roxane and Mira. Now that it's fused into one, so has the menu and it's a very intriguing one.
I can only attest to the Greek salad - mixed greens with artichoke hearts, black olives, tomatoes, cucumbers & feta, tossed in a lemon vinaigrette. Very nice.
The atmosphere is really fun and vibrant. It's sort of trendy chic. Couldn't ask for a better location, either. And it's got lots of space for such a tightly fitted part of the city. It's gotta cost a pretty penny, but they don't make the customers pay for it in the prices of the food.
I just had dinner at Roxane's this past weekend with about 20 other people. Â This was my first time there and I was impressed by the atmosphere, but not so impressed with the service and food.
I am thinking I ordered the wrong thing because from the looks of what some of my friends had, I got the short end of the stick.
The atmosphere is your typical Clayton, trendy, dark yet inviting establishment. Â Cool artwork on the walls, good music in the background, very inviting bar up front. Â
I'm not sure if it was because we had so many people in our party, but it took over an hour to get our food. Â All the tables around us had cleared out by then and it was close to 10pm (I arrived at 8:30). Â They did bring bread which was your typical sourdough bread and I must say, the butter was an herb flavored butter and very tasty. Â
I ordered a wrap because an hour and a half before I got my food, I wasn't as hungry. Â Well, the wrap was shrimp with pineapple, vegetables and rice and was very dry. Â I assumed it would have some sort of sauce inside and I think it did, but I could barely taste it so it made the rice and vegetables taste very dry and bland. Â Not much flavor either to this wrap. Â It also came with a side house salad which was fine, nothing extraordinary.. just typical mixed greens with balsamic dressing.
I ate half the wrap which must mean it wasn't that great considering I'm a starving pregnant woman at this point. Â I didn't even take the other half with me, I didn't want to bother with it later anyway.
I thought a cappucino after my meal would make up for the experience, however, I was wrong there too. It was in a large, pretty coffee mug, however, it was COLD. Â Nothing makes a coffee nut crazier than when the temperature of the coffee is cold. Â At this point, I paid my $18 tab and got the heck out of there.
On the way out, I did see some very good looking guys however, so that made the experience a little more worthwhile:)
I will give Roxane's another try though just because my other friends seemed to enjoy their food and the atmosphere is definitely pretty cool. Â Also, a very good DATE place.. one day:)
I usually enjoy just about any place that I go to that has a drink or two to offer, but Roxane didn't impress me all that much. Roxane has a lot to offer in atmosphere and service, but that is pretty much all it has to offer. Â The food is nothing special and the drinks are expensive.
