Demun Oyster Bar

My wife and I came here for a romantic night out and ended up having one of the best dinners we have had.  We tried many of Demun's small plates including raw, stuffed, and grilled oysters, all of which were incredibly fresh and delicious.  We also had the filet of sole which was uniquely prepared layered with a crab filling.  We also shared a diver scallop topped with a fantastic raspberry gastrique and a wonderful dessert.  The wine and beer offerings were great with local brews from 4 hands brewery and others.  The atmosphere was vibrant and casual and with the beautiful weather of that evening made for a memorable night.  Our complements to the wonderful staff and to the Executive Chef, Ben Edison who is another bright star in the booming St. Louis food scene.

well, we went back....  

it was a sunday night,  four tables in the whole place, including ours.  and we were attended to quite casually, but well.  we even were brought a small bowl of water for our dog without requesting one.

the waiter was knowledgable and friendly and the recommendations were right on the money.  If you don't like Oysters,  there are a multitude of things to choose from instead.  

My girlfriend had her first raw oyster, and was instructed thoroughly how to proceed with the endeavor.  and I had and enormous bowl of some of the best mussels i've had since I was in key west years ago, and the bread was put to good use to soak up some very tasty broth.

we sampled off the individual pieces menu as well as the entree menu.  all dishes were better than average or very close to amazing.

there is a pesky street lamp on the patio that cycles on and off which is quite annoying, but i'm not sure what the establishment can do about that.   and our service did wane as we lingered on a second round of drinks after dinner because, what seemed like our waiters girlfriend or date showed up and sequestered attention away from seeing if we would like to settle up.  30 minutes is a bit long to sit at a table at the end of the night when you are the only table left in the place without a waiter asking if you'd like anything else or the bill.

overall,  if was a superb dinner on a wonderful relaxing sunday evening.  and I have to say that we were also grateful that they are open til 11pm on a sunday,  with the kitchen closing at 10.

a far cry from our former experience there,  and could have been a five star review with just a little more follow through,  .....it started off great.....the middle was great....and then the ball was dropped a little at the end.

we'll be back for sure for the food,  and just not expect to be wowed on other fronts.

I went here with my coworkers for happy hour a while back. Great oysters and the fanciest mixed drinks I've ever seen. This is a great little place to go if you're looking for something new & different.
