I've been here a few times now, and I think the biggest draw for me is the great atmosphere. During the day, it's pretty quiet and pretty conducive to getting some studying done. There also usually aren't too many people so I don't feel bad taking up a whole table to myself. The staff is friendly and courteous ; they bring out all food and drinks to your table. I like that it's nestled away in the middle of a private residential neighborhood - really gives it a local and homey feel. They also have a book borrowing program, which I think is pretty neat, though I haven't tried it myself. I believe on Wednesday nights, they also have open mic poetry.
The reason I give this place three stars is because of their average-quality yet overpriced food and drink. Their latte, which is what I usually get, is $4, and while it's good, it doesn't taste that much better than lattes I've had at other Saint Louis local cafes (e.g. Cafe Ventana, Foam, Hartford Coffee, etc.), which are about $1 cheaper. As for the food, I've only had their breakfast sandwich, which is good, but not stellar.
We were in the area and in the mood for coffee one night. Â One of our favorite joints, Foundation Grounds, was closed after our dinner at a local Maplewood eatery, so we found this on Google. (Sidenote: Seriously, iPhones are amazing.)
Very pleased with my usual Chai Tea Latte. My husband has his usual mocha latte, and raved about it.
This place was VERY, VERY hipster. Some guy was rocking some very interesting live music on his keyboard in one of the two rooms in the shop. Â It must have been a special musical event, as one of the two rooms was full of "fans" of the keyboard player. Â I still cannot believe people were actually studying in the adjoining room (where we placed our order) despite the noise level.
They also sell local artist trinkets (jewelry, art, etc). People were very friendly. Â Lattes were prepared and served quickly.
