I don't even know how to start this review.
This was quite possibly the most awful food experience that I have ever had at any place ever. And that includes sketchy street food in the countryside of China.
When my husband and I first walked into this place, we were surprised. The exterior is a little rundown, but the inside of the bar/restaurant was actually pretty well maintained. We were naively hopeful.
Unfortunately though, the bartenders (who were also the waiters) were dismissive and not attentive at all, but we ignored this from the RAVING reviews of the food here from other Yelpers.
Because of the suggestions of other Yelpers, my husband ordered the Ready For Takeoff Burger which comes with an order of fries (it is a normal hamburger with bacon, grilled onions and cheese on it), and I ordered the Fried Chicken. The fried chicken came with your choice of a salad or a soup, and a surprise portion of french fries (where it's not mentioned anywhere at all, and it will magically appear on your plate).
For the soup options we could choose between Clam Chowder or Chicken Noodle. When I asked the waitress/bartender which one she preferred she sneered, looked at me and said "I don't eat Clam Chowder." I said "That's okay, I won't eat it either it's [my husband's] favorite".
So they drop off our bowl of soup, without uttering a word. We say thank you, and dive in, to discover that it's actually Cream of Chicken. No explanation, not even a "we ran out" just: plop - here's some creamy surprise.
Then the food came out. The fries are good, for the first 5 minutes, and when they cool down they're awful. Actually awful. And for some reason my fries were bitter and had an awful after taste - my husband's were just fine. Weird. Right? He tried mine and his as a comparison.
The burger was overcooked, and nothing all night was seasoned. The fries, the soup, the burger, the fried chicken. Everything was overcooked and bland.
The waitress brought us an empty ketchup container - what's the point? And only gave my husband one refill of his water - skipping over mine.
The real winner? The fried chicken. First of all, it still had a bunch of feathers on it. Second of all, the puny pieces of meat that I got were MANGLED. There was a piece of the thigh meat missing from the thigh. It seems that the Chicken breast was cooked, slashed about five times to see if it was done, and then cooked again. The pieces of meat were so incredibly overcooked that they had dried out and resembled the dried pig ears that people give their dogs as dog treats. - Don't worry, I will be posting my pictures.
It is honestly like they purposefully messed with just my plate of food.
I will never come back, and I will actively voice my opinion about this place to everyone and anyone I have either met or seen before. It was dreadful, and to top it off, it's already been two days and the roof of my mouth is still cut up from the disgustingly over-fried chicken.
It's a good thing that they are a bar because their food is disgusting.
Avoid this place at all costs. Save your money and go anywhere in the entire world. Honestly, go to McDonald's instead.
This used to be one of my regular lunch stops a few years back and a short time ago I went back just for old times sake. Â I imagine Runways is named this as it is located just across the highway from a local airport. Â Building looks like it may have been a local pizza hut at one time. Â Current owners did a pretty nice job of retrofitting this place, bar on one end and there is a dining area up front.
Place has a pretty varied menu of various bar type food. Â People who like fried chicken claim that it is the best fried chicken around, Â I had a buffalo chicken wrap with fries and I pronounce it well worth ordering. Â Tried another persons fish and chips, the fish was definitely of the Mrs. Pauls variety. Â Burgers, and other dishes are also pretty good.
Drink specials several days a week. Â When we were in, it was one dollar beers. Â Wait staff and owners are freindly and the kind of people you want to give your business too. Â Every waitress here seems like she is from Poland, which is a good thing! Â Love those girls from the old country. Â One big surprise is that they now offer free wifi.
While not outstanding in terms of food, this place has a warm freindly feeling that you expect from a local place that you would visit on a regular basis.
