Wow come to SAMs with the expectation of yummy sushi. My family has been eating
Here for almost 3 years, at least once a week We get the tuna bowl with scallions, avocado....heaven ! spicy tuna love, yes it is spicy ! hand rolls tuna or shrimp yumyum! Â these are a few of our favorites... We also have enjoyed the tuna tataki .. Very garlicky...and tasty... The tempura shrimp is ok but not my favorite...anyway yes it is a family business and I would rather spend my 30 dollars there than at publix. Any day!
My husband and I eat sushi very often and this place by far has been the worse sushi experience. We bought three rolls in which we were told were the most popular. All three were just ok. They were so small I thought maybe they made a mistake and gave us someone's appetizer rolls. they mainly contained rice and very small amounts of fish. I don't mind spending $15-$20 on rolls but when you don't get your monies worth, very disappointing!
Review Source:I ordered Sam's for delivery one Saturday night around 8:15. I ordered tuna/salmon sushi and a tempura roll. It was delivered 45 minutes later...everything was really good and the sushi was fresh and cold. The prices are really reasonable too...$7.50 for 6 pieces of sushi 1/2 tuna, 1/2 salmon? That's pretty good considering most places charge $2 a piece!
My only complaint, so far, is that they don't have brown rice as an option and that will stop me from ordering their sushi 9/10 times. When you have something so healthy..fresh fish and then you pair it with white rice..I just don't get it. Brown rice should be an option, for sure.
Perhaps it's my own fault for coming in here an hour before closing, but this was not a good experience. Â It took about 20-25 minutes for my order to be made, which would have been acceptable if I hadn't been told about 10 minutes. Â There was a woman with a young child and a baby in the restaurant as well, and I can only assume she was the employee's wife. Â Which I wouldn't mind either, if her children weren't tired and cranky. Â The food was mediocre, and it looked like something I could have made myself given a bit of patience. Â Note: I am an awful cook. Â If you are looking for even half-decent sushi, you might as well just go to the Publix down the street for a quick meal.
Review Source:Awful owners, awful service, and mediocre sushi.
We came in with a group of 4 and ordered sushi and 2 cans of sprite. We paid up front and the rude owner told us to get our own sprite out of the cooler and sit down.
45 minutes later our rolls came out. When we asked for soy sauce I also asked for a side of spicy mayo and a side of eel sauce. The owner said I'd have to pay for it. I was a bit surprised, but I said I would because I really like eel sauce and my sister likes the spicy mayo. When he brought it to the table he brought a bill for $2 for the two sauces and said I had to pay right then. When I handed him my card (which I used for the $25 tranaction) he threw it on the table and demanded cash. I didn't have cash so he muttered something about it being sad that its cheaper to give it to me free rather than charge a credit card only $2. And mind you - the sauces were in teeny tiny condiment cups - not worth $1 each!!!
The sushi was **ok**. Lots of rice and the JB roll had tiny pieces of fish.
It got even better when we went to leave and the owner stood in our way and said we STOLE 2 sprites!!!! We ORDERED them and he was NASTY about us getting them ourselves. Since we grabbed them on the way FROM paying, my assumption was that he simply forgot to ring them up. At this point I told him what I thought of his restaurant and left with him cursing about us to another employee.
It's sad that a restaurant owner could have so little sense. The place is ALWAYS dead and it won't be too long until it is closed down.
The Golden Arches have nothing on Sam's Sushi Express. If Sam's had a drive through, they would be a true fast food joint. Frankly, since they provide delivery, who needs a drive through?
I discovered this place using my Yelp Mobile app. At first, you are set aback about how tiny it is. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the reviews were great. In traditional (sarcasm) Asian American style, the menu is a collection if letters and numbers. You end up sounding like a game of Battleship ordering a B-13 and a A-4. What I was able to glean from the menu, A is for Appetizers, B is for Entrees, C is for Combos, and D is for large platters. Everything is priced very reasonably. Even their most expensive veggie California Roll party platter is just under $40.
Bottom Line: Try the Hungry Man, it's priced well and filling.
Great little hidden spot. Â Sushi could be a little fresher but honestly for the price it is top notch. Â Â Two tables in there so it's not really some place to "go" to eat. Â But still great food. Â Super friendly staff and awesome prices. Â I would give it 5 stars but the seating and near freshness dropped it down. Â Wish there were half stars!
Review Source:Not even joking, this is seriously the best sushi take out EVER. I have been a huge fan since my boyfriend introduced me to this bomb diggity place about 2 years ago. We are both sushi lovers, and too lazy to cook so take out is our best friend. The sushi is always so fresh! The rainbow roll is my weakness, therefore I always order it, Â and I am never disappointed. The Dragon Roll is also very delicious. The best part: You can't beat those prices! Whenever we try new sushi places we usually end up saying "Wasn't better than Sam's Sushi Express" !
Review Source:If you want quick cheap sushi this is your place. It is like the little caesars of sushi places. The prices are awesome if your starving for that sushi fix but can't afford an expensive restaurant. Use to come here in-between classes to get food. I have never had any problems with freshness or anything else. It is a bit awkward sitting inside when no one else is there. Take out is probably your best bet. Try them for a quick cheap sushi lunch.
Review Source:Sam's Sushi Express has been in Davie for well over a year now - and it is hands down my go-to place for sushi.
There is a small dining room with tables and chairs, but I usually call in and order take out. Â This sushi is closer to what you would find at Publix or Fresh Market as opposed to a place like Moon, but the price is right, the fish is always fresh, and they have a lot of options. Â
My usual order of two tuna California rolls and eel sauce is under $9... so you can't beat the price (and it's yummy too!). Great alternative to Moon Thai or Sushi Sogo, especially if you want to take out and eat at home.
