    Sadly now out of business

San Vito has closed. Not a mystery why if you look at recent reviews. It's a shame the management couldn't get their act together here. Lots of potential for a restaurant with good food and a commitment to excellent service.

If I could give this restaurant ZERO stars, I would!  Tonight, we were three kids and two adults.  Nothing complicated, no special orders.  After a 45 min wait for our meal, we received one kids pizza that was ice cold, one Misto di Pesce full of broken mussel shells, and penne pasta with not one, but TWO COCKROACHES in it!!!!  We summoned the waitress to get the manager, who was working behind the bar.  She asked to come over to our table. He nodded and continue to serve drinks to the handful of customers and waitresses at the bar. After waiting for five mins, I approached him directly and he informed me he was "busy serving his customers at the bar." I loudly informed him of the cockroaches in our meal, the cold pizza and disappointing Misto di Pesce.  He replied, "I'm coming....  I'm coming...."  As he inspected the cockroaches and mutter that he would get us more pasta....  No apology, no sorry, just we'll get you more pasta.  We walked out.

Can't expect too much from here. Calzones are good but I've had better. Will be back to try different things, and hopefully it will be better.

This is a great little neighborhood restaurant and is very kid friendly. We've been going here for about five years and its our 'go to' place when we don't feel like cooking, but don't want to get your average takeout fare. The servers bring out little balls of dough for my son whenever we go there, which is a nice touch for keeping him engaged throughout the dinner. Is it the Italian I've never had? No, but its very good. I always get either the Rigattoni Silvana or the Pizza San Vito. The place has a good selection on the menu and has attentive waiters/waitresses. We've never been disappointed with the food or service.

I have been to this restaurant many times because I live nearby, and I have to say that it is hit or miss. When the kitchen is "on" the food can be very good. I find the pasta dishes to be better that the meat/chicken entrees. They have some creative dishes like Pasta Alessandro and Lasagna with Bechamel.

Unfortunately, the servers often don't know/care what is going on in the kitchen. During my last visit, I ordered a salad called Duo Couri---an $11 salad of romaine, hearts of palm, and blue cheese. It arrived with no hearts of palm. When I asked, the waitress went back to the kitchen, and came back  saying that "the shipment did not come in". Would have been nice if they told me that when I ordered! They did not make any adjustment to the bill, and I had to pay the full $11 for a plate of romaine! I wrote an email to the restaurant, and was ignored. That was a few months ago, and I haven't been back. It's too bad, because mistakes like that can ruin a restaurant.

In a conversation with my dentist, whose office in across the street from the restaurant, he told me that although they like the food, they never order take-out at lunch because  they can never trust that the food will be ready when the restaurant says it will. When you have a short time to eat, the food must be ready on time.

Haven't eaten at the restaurant, so I can't say much about the service, but it's great for take-out.  The hostess that took my order didn't seem to know much about their food and menu, but I ordered the crab ravioli and mussels.  Food was ready in 15 minutes and turned out to be delicious.  I'll be ordering take-out from here more often.

I recently came here for dinner with a few "friends". (I use the term very loosely. Will explain at a later review)

Our servers name was Will. He was super attentive and seemed to know what I wanted before I even thought of it, or asked for it. Seriously. He was top knotch. He kept me pleasantly entertained while the rest of my party were kind of a bunch of downers. If I'm being totally honest I will e back to give him my number.

With that being said this is not THE best Italian restaurant I've ever been too. My "acquaintance's " ravioli tasted a bit like frozen, and the calamari was slightly chewy. However the service was excellent, the prices were just right, and they have 1/2 price bottles on Monday. (no complaints there!) I had the Caesar salad and the Sicilian pizza. Both were excellent. I will say the crust is more "done" than not. However no one tried to explain to me that I like it that way. When I asked will he said the crust is crispy and not doughy like some places. I prefer the crisp so I didn't mind.

The decor was also excellent. I got a homey feel without feeling like I could show up I sweats and not be embarrassed.

All in all San Vito's was a great experience for me. Will, thanks for the service, I'll be back ;)

For this last 5 or 6 years we've been meeting a couple from Gaithersburg
(we drive up from Fredericksburg). This year I thought I would yelp it. Wow, after reading these reviews I I became concerned, but since we knew of any other restaurants in that area we decided to go anyway. It was a Sunday morning and not very busy. Our waitress was great and very attentive, and the food -- as good as ever. And I think the price very reasonable.

Avoid this place. They serve burned food and try to explain that people like it that way.

I have been here a few times and made the decision to give it one last try because of the proximity to my house; however, big mistake, hugh.  We walked in and it was brutally warm.  Asked waiter to please lower air conditioner and he did. He said that he thought about mentioning it to management but didn't.

Next, the bread that was delivered, left over, I think so, ugh.  It was pretty stale tasting even with the delicious parsley dip.  It was warmed up, but that did not help it.

One of our water glasses was chipped and not even a little bit, quite a bit.

My daughter ordered baked ziti with ricotta cheese.  We all tried it because she said it didn't taste right.  We figured what does a kid know.  Thank God she spoke up, the ricotta was spoiled.  I tried it, my husband tried it, my son, and mother tried it, disgusting.

I ordered the farfalla pasta.  They were hard, dried out, as if they were cooked and left out to be available in case someone ordered the dish.  If I hadn't been starving I would have sent it back.  The sauce was acidic and the eggplant bitter.

Ma ordered the pizza.  It looked delicious, pizza crust golden, appealing.  Bottom of the pizza, white, just terrible.   I have been to this resturant on a Monday evening and thought well it's Monday.  This was a Saturday night.  I will never, ever go back.

Chef Ramsey needs to visit.  I don't believe they are as clean as they could be and I truly believe they aren't using the freshest ingredients.

It's a shame because people are nice, bar area is inviting.  The place could be a true hang out.

This place has lots of different options for people of all taste buds. The service is somewhat iffy- ranging from very accommodating waiters to 16-year-old high school girls who can't even bring you your wine (at least they are following the law!) I love the ravioli here- it has a nice thick sauce and is not too salty. The pizzas are always wonderful as well. I also like how they bring tasty bread with a parsley pesto (I sort of wish they'd change it up and make a basil pesto). What is also nice is that the pesto does not have nuts (but if you go double check if you have a nut allergy b/c it could have changed) for those with allergies. I say this is a tasty must go place if you live in Fairfax/Burke but I have heard it is not the best working environment.

The evolution of a yelp review:

    First impressions:
Wow this place is really nice! Why are people rating it so low?

    3 minutes later:
Waitresses friends walk in.  She takes their order.  I'm still sitting there.  No big deal.  But I need a straw for my drink...

    5 more minutes later:
Waitress comes back and takes my order.  I notice I should have sat at the bar with the hot bartender.

    2 minutes later:
Waitress is hanging out with her friends at their table.  Where's my straw?

    1 minute later:
Take out yelp application on my phone and read some of the reviews.  Notice someone said the hostess plays with her hair.  Look over at hostess.  She is indeed playing with her hair.  Have a little laugh.

    15 minutes later:
Foooooood!  It's actually very very good!  Friends of the waitress leave.

    10 minutes later:
    Where's my waitress?

    5 minutes later:
I should have asked for the check when she brought out my food.  I need to get to class.  Has she died or something??

    1 minute later:
Oh there she is!  I give her my credit card. That I've been holding for the last five minutes.  She seems shocked that I, her only table, have been waiting for her to grace the front of the house with her presence.

    3 minutes later:
Sign the check and leave. Hostess is still playing with her hair.

    1 minute later:
Waitress wonders why she got a horrible tip.

Bottom line:  The food was good, but the service was bad enough to never want to return.

    3.5 stars

First of all, we come here occasionally. I really liked it the first time. I think it's because somehow we managed to pick the best dishes on the menu- seafood pasta Misto Di Pesce, fried baby squid Calamari Fritti and Vesuvio calzone with ham, spinach and ricotta (actually all of their pizzas are quite good). Steamed Mussels are not bad either.

All that said, other dishes (including desserts) we've tried... Very mediocre. Not exciting or flavorful. They have good fish specials from time to time, but it's a hit or miss. I'll stick to my usual Misto Di Pesce.

    More about my favorites...
Misto Di Pesce- For 17 bucks you get humongous bowl (2 normal portions easily) of baby squid, mussels, shrimps, scallops and pasta in light tomatoe-y sauce. One of the best seafood pastas I've ever had.

Calamari Fritti- good appetizer for two. The tomato dipping sauce is good too- tangy and flavorful. I think they even jar it and sell it. I guess it's their base tomato sauce they use for pizzas, pastas, etc. Sometimes those little squids can be too greasy (literally dripping) or clumped though.

Pizzas- you can taste the fresh ingredients and better quality cheeses. Not the best pizza, but good.

Been there for lunch once and tried their chicken sandwich wrap with balsamic and arugula- tangy and pretty tasty.

All in all- this place balances between good ant average. Never awful, sometimes great and sometimes just boring. The staff is consistently attentive though.

This is a wonderful restaurant which I enjoy often. The food is wonderful. Great place to go with my girlfriends when we want to talk, or have some wine and a salad. I just feel right at home at this restaurant. I have loved everything that I have tried as I enjoy trying everything on a menu of a restaurant that I enjoy.

#1 - I have four kids under the age of 5 and they LOVE it here - the servers always bring them out a small ball of raw pizza dough for them to play with while we wait for our food - GENIUS.
shoot.  I even play with it!

#2 - we've been several times, sometimes with friends, and have enjoyed the service, food and atmosphere every time!
homemade pastas, great sauces, yummy seafood and it all tastes fresh!

#3 - the prices are a bit higher than your normal family Italian resturant but the food is better so....

#4 - back to the kids, I was grateful for a little bit louder of an atmosphere, although I wouldn't call it 'loud', it was just right for us

I'm def a fan of San Vito.

I joined a friend here for dinner recently, closer to their place than mine but she talked favorably about this place so I ventured from Chantilly to check this place out.

My 1st impressions was, wow. this parking lot is crowded. No spaces, the anchor store here in this strip center is a Giant...so what's up with all the BMW's, Acura's and Benz's fighting over parking spaces?

Inside, greeted by a friendly hostess, yes sir, we have a booth for you!

We were greeted by Anthony our waiter. He said we could call him Tony but everyone in his family calls him Anthony.

He rattled off four fish specials. Broiled Mahi, grilled Trout, baked Halibut and crab stuffed broiled Salmon. I hardly even looked at the menu after thinking about all the fresh fish. I landed on the Salmon and my friend the Trout.

We had a nice bruschetta for a starter. Nice & crisp with fresh tomatoes, very tasty.

The food was out in no time. the Salmon came with angel hair pasta with a light cream sauce. the Salmon served with asparagus spears.

He also brought up some fresh bread with pesto sauce.

Wow, what a meal and everything was so fresh and tasty. Excellent service very friendly and attentive.

It's a nice more than just a neighborhood restaurant. Not quite fine dining. A little more expensive than typical Italian family dining...but worth it.

The only thing I wouldn't miss is the piped in Muzak like sound system.

I'll go back for a second visit, no doubt!

San Vito's is one of those place where if you find can find that one dish you like, you'll go back.  For me, it's the misto di pesce, it's a great seafood pasta with loads of clams, mussels, and calamari.  Yeah, there's also 2 pieces of shrimp and scallops too.  A little more would be nice.  I always request the white wine sauce over the tomato sauce but that's just a preference.  The default is a tomato sauce.

The bread with the olive oil and herbs really hits the spot and the way they present their desserts make it very tempting.  They bring the actual desserts to your face and ask you to choose.

If it weren't for the misto di pesce, I wouldn't come back so often.  Everytime I try something else, it's never as good.  I don't like their pizzas.  The crust is thin but way too soggy and can't hold its structure.  The calzones are massive but don't taste that great.  The calamari and mozzalera sticks aren't spectacular.  And the shrimp pasta was the worst.  It came with five pieces of shrimp at a price of $15.  The lunch sandwiches aren't a bad deal however.  Chicken parm sandwich with a side for around $8.

To the other reviewer that complained about the waiter smoking, I'm totally with you.  My sister was a hostess there and she told me that some of the waiters took smoking breaks constantly.  The wait staff is mostly college students so service varies, but I haven't had any issues with them yet.

FYI, it's packed on Tuesday nights because they have a lobster special for $15.  It's a 1.5 lb steamed lobster with linguine on the side.  You have to make a reservation for it by 8pm Sunday night though.  Another reason its packed is because senior citizens love the place and Tuesday might as well be Saturday for them.  The waiters and I were the only people there in our twenties.

I *heart* Italian food, and this place was so, so, egh.  I got tortellini in cream sauce that was so unmemorable, I think I'd rather go to Olive Garden than this place again.  Our waiter kept disappearing for long smokes at a time (yes, I'm sure, he reeked of it).  Boo to San Vito.

I don't think I'll ever come back to this restaurant based on the food me and my friends ordered (veal tasted rubbery, pasta didn't have any flavor, and bread was hard).  My entree tasted like a microwave dinner and it cost me almost $20! The atmosphere of the restaurant was nothing to speak home about either - lights were too bright and not much privacy.  If you're in the springfield area and want to eat at an american restaurant with a better atmosphere and tastier food, you're much better off going to Outback Steakhouse or Mike's American Grill.   I'm not a food snob by any means, but there are alot of restaurants with entrees priced at $5-$10 at other restaurants that taste much better.

I don't know where to post this.  Does anybody remember a small Italian restaurant, across from Springfield Mall?  Spring Mall Drive, Loisdale or on Frontier.  They made their pasta fresh and the dishes were incredible.  I enjoyed many delicous lunches there.

I've been to this place twice now so I think I can formulate a decent review.  The food is not bad but it isn't the greatest, I would say on par with an Olive Garden but nothing that stands out.  I tried the calzone the first time and a baked ziti dish the second time.  I wasn't impressed with the calzone or the pizza my wife had, the dough has an odd taste, but the ziti was very good.  The restaurant has a very nice decor and it is kid friendly with some good items on the menu.  My kids particularly like the fish shaped pizza.

Apparently, I've lived by this place for awhile and never noticed it.  It's one of those places that blends into the background.  Granted, this shopping center has one of the nicest McDonalds in the area, complete with Xbox and Playstations.

I got some takeout for lack of any other food ideas.  I ordered up some fried calamari and a dish called Luna Rossa.  The calamari was ok.  Pretty average and needed some salt.  The tomato sauce tasted ok but was super watery.  The Luna Rossa (rigatoni with prosciutto, eggplant, peas, sun dried tomato paste cream, and bread crumbs) was a good idea, in theory.  In practice, the dish fell pretty flat.  There was no discernible prosciutto.  I have been known to just open up a package of prosciutto and eat it like cheese slices.  Also, the cream and the sun dried tomato paste weren't mixed all that well.  I had clumps of paste spread throughout the cream sauce.

The place looked pretty busy, especially on a Tuesday night.  The brick oven looked interesting.  Would I come back?  Possibly, but I wouldn't go out of my way to do so.

    Delicious!

I was pleasantly surprised to find this gem, but a coworker recomended it.

The decor is beautiful; not something that you expect in a dumpy little strip mall.

The pizzas are wonderful; i especially recomend the rustica and the white pizza, although my husband swears by the pepperoni. I've only tried the ravioli once and it was terrific.

The staff is friendly and helpful, and I look forward to my next trip out there.

This restaurant is "just ok".  I want it to be better than it is and we ate there fairly often right after it opened.  I kept hoping that they would get their act together and that the food would improve.  I always seem to read a description on the menu that sounds good and it is always something of a disappointment.  The only true disaster I've had there was a risotto.  I love a good risotto and this was awful--undercooked (which means they tried to hurry it) and tasteless.  The atmosphere is nice enough, and the service is ok--although the kitchen is very slow--but it just doesn't live up to it's potential.

This place was HORRIBLE! I expected a down home family restaurant where they treat you right. Didn't happen! It started off just fine, right up until I was seated.

I was IGNORED for 15 - 20 minutes before I walked out. There were 2 servers and a manager that walked right by me and still nothing.

I've had better service and places like Fridays and Bennigans. Will never go there again.

Very disappointing...I was hoping to go to Vinnie's it had been sometime since I had been to Vinnie's and was surprised to find it had been replaced with San Vito.  I decided to give it a try.

I had the veal piccata.  Not a good dish there.  The veal was not at all tender.  It came with broccoli and potatoes that was pretty much flavorless.  My husband's dish he ordered the sausage, peppers and pasta dish when he got down to the bottom of the bowl it had like and inch of grease.

Generally it was noisy and very hard to have a conversation.  The service was okay, but not great.  My husband's appetizer never came out, but they tried to charge us for it.  I would have liked an additional refill.   I do not plan to return again.

I wish Vinnie's was still there.

We  have ordered carryout from here recently and been happy with it everytime.

I had the grilled chicken in a white wine sauce- it was a little charred for me.  There were potatoes and spinach on the side that were good and scented with rosemary.  More recently I ordered the spaghetti with meat balls. While this is a simple meal, it can really be messed up. These meatballs were heaven, firm but very tasty with perfectly seasoned tomato sauce. They weren't sweet or too spicy just savory- like home cooked meatballs.  Excellent.

My husband had the lobster ravioli- he ordered it once and will probably order it again and again forever and ever. it was excellent. The sauce was creamy but light. The ravioli was super fresh.

San Vito replaced a very old very neglected italian restaurant in a very lovely way.  It's hard to imagine a delightful italian restaurant in a strip mall, but aside from the huge glass windows onto the parking lot, the atmosphere is relatively contemporary, very clean, and communal.  The menu is extensive, and has great options, some of which are fairly traditional for non-adventurous types, but there are some yummy surprises that feel very authentic italian.  Our service was great, and though we were having a quick dinner, my flounder cinque terre was a huge portion of yum yum and my mom enjoyed her veal corleone with a side of spaghetti AND rosemary roasted potatoes.  We didn't have wine, but it was a whole separate menu, so i'm sure i would have found and old friend or two on the list.

Great new option getting some critical notice in Springfield - that's a first!
