You want a "beach day" regardless of what time of the year it is. Â You want to have drinks at the beach without being concerned if they're allowed, and you want food, without having to prepare it yourself... Â Here's your place!
Sandbar is just that, a bar / restaurant filled with sand, and some palm trees to make you feel like you're on vacation, at the beach, whenever you're there. Â Located on A1A, literally just across the street from the beach.
There's two Tiki bars and some games on the back. Â Waitresses will serve you in bikini tops and short shorts, great music, drinks are strong and brought out quickly, plus they sell some of them in Pitchers to share (only if you want to). Â They obviously have happy hour, and on Sundays the Pitchers are $18 which serve 3 - 4 glasses. Â We ordered the Raspberry Mojito and it was delicious. Â They also make the "Dark & Stormy" drink, which immediately makes me love the place a little more.
Food was great too. Â I had the Sliders, they come with cheese and bacon, and they had that perfect grill flavor, it also comes with fries. Â I tried the "peel n eat shrimp" and was really good.
This is a cool, laid back bar, only problem is parking... you rely on street or public garages, which are scarce during holidays and gorgeous blue sky days when everybody's at the beach. Â Also, it gets crowded. Â So, my suggestion is, go early, be patient, and enjoy your day in the sand.
This place was much needed in Delray Beach!!
Only problem is finding parking!! It took us 45mins to find a parking space. It is a pain in the butt. It would be great is there was parking lot just for sandbar.
Walking in there is security waiting to ID you. Which I think is perfect. No kids running around and underage drinkers. It is first come first serve. You have to seat yourself. It can get a little crowded. We were lucky to find a table right away but it was not covered so the sun was burning us up. It got too hot! However, if you find a table under an umbrella or shade you are lucky!! They have a full bar on the right and center with lots of shade. There is plenty of seating around the bars.
Our waitress is very attentive and made sure our drinks were always full. We decided to have lunch here. I ordered the Big Kahuna Burger it came with lettuce, tomato, onion, your cheddar cheese. A side of house fries. It was delicious. My boyfriend ordered the mahi mahi sandwich and he loved it. For drinks I ordered the Spicy Mango Mojito- Oakheart Spiced Rum, mango. It was delicious. Then I decided to order a pitcher of Jamaican drink. Forgot the name. It was not too good. Stick to the mojitos they are delicious. Music is great.
Over all this is a great place. Great Atmosphere, Music, Drinks and Food.
I will definitely be back again.. wait...Parking SUCKS though so I might think twice about it.
I wanted to like this place because it is new and I have been in Delray 35 years, but there were several things preventing this from being a place I will visit anytime soon: Â
1 - daytime carding to get in the door, on a weekday for no reason in Delray Beach? Â Seemed a little weird / creepy.
2 - waitresses wear bathing suits and tiny shorts right near your food and drinks. Â
3 - waitress was rude, interrupted people constantly and seemed preoccupied.
4 - waitress omitted a person's order totally, making our Friday company lunch delayed by an additional 15 minutes.
5 - Tables were dirty but the sat us at them anyway.
Things we did like.....the view :).
Sanbar has both good and bad. Â Location and atmosphere is great being right across the street from the beach. Â Appetizers are good (smoked fish dip and peel-n-eat shrimp) at a good price during happy hour. Â For the bad, sometimes the clientele can get a little rough and the advertised half price draft beer and well drinks during happy hour is FALSE ADVERTISING. Â The price is half the normal price but the glasses are smaller so its not half price. Â Order a draft beer at 3:55pm and it will come in a 16oz cup. Â Order the same beer at 4:05pm at it will come in a 12oz cup.
Review Source:I really wanted to like this place since it's right across from the beach and it is the theme but the poor service and so so food just didn't cut it. Â It's a nice place and you really feel like you're right at the beach but that's about it.
We waited quite a while till someone came over to us even though about 10 employees walked by us many times. Â We ordered apps off the happy hour menu, the chicken lollipops and conch fritters. Â The chicken was ok and fritters were not. Â We might try to go again with our friends but there are too many really good places I'd rather go to.
Um..why have I not been here sooner!!!! Â I love this place. Â First..I am a huge fan of Bostons..being that city is my home place! So, add a little sand and chairs and palm trees to my bar..hell yes..thank you very much! Â Totally chill vibe, non-pretentious and love that they have cornhole!!! I will be back!
Review Source:Great spot in Delray Beach! Best priced margaritas on Mondays, not to mention their regular happy hour specials including half priced appetizers. Great smoked fish dip with to die for garlic and butter toasted pita points. We also ordered a pound of peel and eat shrimp which were only $7.00. Can't beat that! Our new favorite spot! Nena is our favorite margarita bartender!
Review Source:Didn't get a chance to try the food but after a long day on the beach, this is the place to go!
Came for drinks with friends after spending the day on delray beach. Strong drinks at a reasonable price ( I say this bc I'm in the biz and know weak cheap drinks).
Kelly took care of us, or rather put up with us! Service was great and atmosphere was great; good music and busy on a Sunday evening off the beach who would've thought?
We stopped by here twice, first time a thursday night at 6, maybe 15 people here. Â We loved the outdoor atmosphere, you can sit at their large bar or a table and chairs in the sand. Â There are tiki torches and neat water falls etc. Â Looks like they put a ton of money into the place, wish they had something like this on every touristy beach. Â It was happy hour both days, drink and food prices were good. Â Drinks were standard, not strong, not weak. Â I didn't care for their peel and eat shrimp, kind of spicy. Â The service was very good. Â If you wan't to be indoors, go next door to bostons.
Review Source:This is a new bar, all outside, next to Boston's on A1A.
First, the location is great, right on A1A and its been built up such that you can see the water from the bar. Â It is all outside with sand, lounge chairs and bar area. Â Music is super loud which is okay but makes it hard to talk and hang out. Â They also have some games and it could be a fun hangout spot if they took the music down a notch. Â Location is 4 star. Â
Second, drinks we had easy ones, Captain and Diet and they were fine but certainly not a good pour for the price. Â Food comes from Boston's kitchen as this place is owned by Boston's. Â Price, paying for the beach side atmosphere, so on the high side.
Third, service. Â Ugh, poor. Â This place has been opened long enough that service issues should be worked out by now. Â The wait staff is all very young girls that were clearly hired for looks and not skills. Â It was 10 minutes before a waitress even noticed us and another 10 before we got drinks. Â I guess if Boston's only wants college guys hanging out here then they hired appropriately, but if they want anyone else they need to train or hire better. Â I'd give this place 0 starts for service. Â
This will be a spot that we bring visitors, but not a regular hangout for us due to price and awful service.
Came here once with a friend for a few drinks... Took a while to wiggle our way to the bar to order some drinks, and even longer to find a place to sit. Â Eventually we decided we wanted to order a few apps, so we got the conch fritters and some peel and eat shrimp. Â The fritters were okay, and the "peel n eat shrimp" were just seasoned PEELED shrimp on ice. Â
The way it's set up is it's outdoors with two tiki style bars, some sand on the ground, patio furniture for tables/seats, with flashy lights and loud music booming in the background. Â I can see this place being fun if you're from out of town on spring break and were into wet t-shirt contests or something like that (that wasn't going on, but I can see this place having one). Â It was kind of fun watching the older couples walk in here, look around, and tip toe back words out.
I'm not saying this place is bad, but it wasn't great. Â I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but I also wouldn't object to coming here if I was already in the area or meeting friends.
Cute outdoor beach bar across the street from the beach itself. Â No indoor seating but chairs and tables under tikibar. Â Very little food choices. This place is mainly for a drink on a beach day. Owned by Bostons I believe so you can go next door for real food or upstairs to 50 Ocean for something nicer. Cute fountains and patio furniture. I can see this place getting a little out of control in the evenings as not much else to do here but drink and hang out. No dogs allowed kinda stinks.
Review Source:People are getting a little to serious with the reviews for this place... When I go here I expect it to be a dive on the beach with water down drinks your not really going for the drinks your going for the atmosphere to me it reminds me of spring break... Â The drinks are ok the service is ok but the atmosphere is great....
Review Source:Went there last night with a local meetup group and it was packed (Friday night, holiday weekend...) I went there to have fun and sucked it up and paid 5.00 for a Budweiser bottle (6 bc I tipped) I won't be a regular there-can't u get a whole 6 pk for around 6 bucks? The DJ was great and played a lot of different genres-fun tunes like Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy, then the Cupid Shuffle, then Tricky....The dancefloor was packed and people were singing along.Fun times!
I think I will save my Sandbar visits for visiting friends!
Great location right on the A1A across from the beach, next to Boston's. Â I really liked the vibe here, the music, the good service (even the bouncers were nice!), and the drinks.
Try the Corona-Rita -- a blended margarita with an upside-down Corona in it. Â Fantastic! Â The food is bar food but waaaaaay more expensive than typical bar food AND they don't have french fries. Â That was a disappointment for my husband, but the ambiance of just being outside and enjoying the Florida sunshine across from the beach really can't be beat.
They do have happy hour here during the week, from 3 to 6pm. Â During happy hour, bottled beer and wine is $1 off, and they had some other specials that I missed.
We didn't order any food, but I saw a couple of guys order the Hummus Plate. Â It looked really good, but again, overpriced. Â Go here for the vibe and ambiance.
Strong drinks and beachy pub fare. I enjoyed the pina colada (with an extra floater!), mahi sandwich, and the peel n eat shrimp... which were particularly fresh.
This isn't five star dining, but would you expect it to be with a name like Sandbar? Think beach bar (sand and all), but across the street from the ocean. A great place to come in your flip flops and cover up after putting on your SPF.
No shoes, no shirt...and you likely will get service.
It looked nice as I ran by last week. Â My wife and I were walking our dog down the beach, and decided to stop by for a drink on Sunday afternoon. Â It's an outside venue, in what is usually the dog friendly Delray, we expected there wouldn't be a problem....no dogs allowed.
Tonight the weather was nice, and it felt right to try out the new outdoor venue. Â We were planning on dinner, but the menu was extremely limited. Â We were in time for happy hour...but there is no happy hour. Â They have one fruity cocktail a day that they have on special. Â So we had a few apps, and a few beers. Â The menu has a big selection of liquor drinks, but does not list drink prices. Â The beers are 12 oz, and go down quick. Â The apps weren't anything special, just bar food. Â After 3 apps, and 3 beers each, we get the bill. Â $74?!?!?!?! Â I can live with the $10-$12 food prices, but $6 for a 12 oz beer? Come on! Â I think next happy hour I'll bring a cooler to the beach and watch the suckers spend their money. Â
And what is going on with that fountain in the middle of the courtyard?
The Sandbar at Boston's on the Beach was a much anticipated change for the East Atlantic/A1A Happy Hour scene. Â We were so excited to receive the Facebook update about the Grand Opening. Â We decided to put our dinner on hold to check it out for a cocktail.
It was last Wednesday and it was crowded. Â We were lucky to snag two seats by the side bar, not under the Hut. Â Which was fine because the view of the Hut and all of the people having fun was better.
We asked the server about Happy Hour (after all, it really was 5:00PM there). Â She explained that drinks are half price between 5-7 Monday through Friday. Â PERFECT! Â A mile from our home and a great place to sink our toes into the sand and have a cocktail after work.
We decided to create a Facebook event for that Friday. Â I invited several of our friends to meet us. Â I never though I would say this ... but only one friend was available and in hindsight, I was ever so thankful.
We arrived at the Sandbar at approximately 6:00PM to find the place only half full. Â Strange ... Wednesday it was packed. Â Friday, not so much! Â Anyway, we sat at the Adirondack chairs and ordered cocktails. Â Then more cocktails. Â Then ... I asked to server to bring us one more before the Happy Hour pricing changed ...
WHAT?????? Â She said there is NO Happy Hour. Â WHAT?????? No Happy Hour???? We explained that were told of this Happy Hour just two days before. Â She replied, "Yes, that was a one night thing the mnager tried but the Owners don't want Happy Hour outside." Â She said, the Owners want to fill the inside bar at Boston's with Happy Hour guests.
Inside? Â In South Florida? Â For Happy Hour? Â When the ocean is in plain sight and there is sand and a Tiki Hut? Â So let me get this straight ... the Owner wants people to come off of the beach in bathing suits and cover-ups, sandy and sweaty ... and pile them inside where people are dining? Â But does not want to entice beachgoers longing for Happy Hour outside to visit the Tiki Bar where their attire is much more acceptable?
Our bill for thre rounds for three people was $90.00 with tip ... we will take our Happy Hour elsewhere ...on the Avenue ...
Sorry, Sandbar ... now that the snowbirds are leaving ... we hope your plan works ... as locals, we have choices.
