It's a good little restaurant. Â I've never acutally had what I would call a happy server here but they are efficient and nice enough. Â The food is pretty decent, I've been coming here a few years now and the quality is pretty consistant. Â It's a great place for just a quick trip out, definitely better than going to any of the chain restaurants. Â The Baked spaghetti is probably my favorite thing on the menu. Â The gyro's are good too as is the pizza.
Review Source:Even though I work around the corner from this place, I just tried it yesterday. Lovely little place with great food. I ended up having a grilled chicken salad but it was super tasty. Next time I'll go for the Greek salad.
As far as the staff goes, they're friendly. Obviously other customers are a bit sensitive to "rudeness" & not use to people being direct. I had no problem with it. The DC Metro Area isn't exactly known for it's friendly people.
We are not from the area so we just chanced it. We tried the Eggplant and Baked Spaghetti. My husband liked his spaghetti but it was enough for 2 or more to share! My eggplant was mushy and the spaghetti came with tomato chunks and not really enough sauce. I wish the bread was either plain and came with butter or covered in garlic butter and toasted. It was plain bread with a dab of melted butter. Weird. The salad comes with the dressing on it and mine was swimming but my fault for not getting it on the side. My daughter loved her (fresh) fruit cup and grilled hot dog. The bun was warm and she got a lollipop too. I liked the service just didn't love the food. I wish we would have tried the pizza instead but we've had enough of that lately.
Review Source:Saratoga Pizzeria is not just another pizza place. It is one of the many Greek family-owned Greek-American-Italian restaurants common in Northern Virginia. (Similar Family Restaurants are Virginia's equivalent of the diner or coffee shop found in other regions of the USA.) Saratoga Pizzeria stands out above the others in service and food. This family restaurant offers a range of hot deli sandwiches, Greek main dishes, Italian main dishes, salads, and, yes, pizza. We stop here very often.
It has the best Gyro sandwich I've had in Northern Virginia and Washington, DC. (The Gyro sandwich is made with lamb and served in a pita with lettuce, tomatoes, onions feta cheese, and sauce.) The pizza is very good, too, as other Italian dishes such as Lasagna or Manicotti. Â My current favorite is the Gyro Delight salad. (Salad with Gyro meat.) Â Â
Great place to stop if in the area!
I once asked an acquaintance of Greek descent why there are so many Greek-owned restaurants in Northern Virginia. She replied that it is because Greeks believe if you offer food to company, then you will never go hungry.
The atmosphere is casual and the staff very friendly, giving the restaurant a real down home ambiance. The charming lady waitresses at Saratoga have watched our children grow up and always ask how our family is doing. But, beware if you say "jy-row" when ordering a gyro sandwich or platter. They'll quickly correct you that it is pronounced "hhee-ro"!
Love this place! We just moved to the area and decided to check them out and have been going back ever since. My fiance is from Queens and is a pizza snob and he is addicted to their pizza. It tastes like good pizza to me but what do I know, I'm from MD lol.
Every time we have visitors we grab a couple pizzas to go and it's a hit! I always get the gyro salad and it's the best I've ever had.
The only negative is that they don't have Mountain Dew or Dr. Pepper for my fiance and sometimes the service is a little slow but the servers are always friendly.
If you are in the area then definitely eat there!
Don't let anyone fool you. Â Don't trust the yellow pages, don't trust yelp, and most importantly, don't trust the gold standard. Â The real name of this place is Pizzatoga, and anyone else who tells you any differently is either not your friend or has never been here. Â You should cut all these people out of your life. Â
The food here is pretty passable, but the pizza is some of the best in the area. Â The only negative is that the pizza comes out pipping hot. Â Don't be like me and burn yourself. Â Or do, I don't really care. Â
They also give you a free lolly pop!
I love this place - Â wonderful little family-run neighborhood restaurant. Â Their pizza is fabulous, but I really love their sandwiches and salads. Â I'm there almost every Saturday and the waitresses that work then are great - treat me like family; I've never experienced the bad service other reviews have mentioned. Â Dine in or take out, I definitely recommend it!
Review Source:I've been going to this family owned restaurant since I was 12 years old, so let's just say about 20 years, ha-ha. Â They have the best pizza and gyro's around. Â I love the family atmosphere and I swear I've had the same server since I was a child, it' s such a nice family place to visit. Â It's my comfort food place. Â I love their Pizza's, but the best things on their menu are the Chicken Pita and Gyro's sandwiches. Â They are the best I've ever had. Â I remember going to college and trying Gyro's at a Greek place there and that's when I realized how awesome I've had it for so many years. Â
If you want a cheap, family restaurant that's laid back with great food, check this place out.
Our office ordered take-out for lunch today. Â The steak & cheese is steak umms. Â It was ok but I was not expecting a steak umm from this "family place". Â Our order of Spanakopita had plastic wrap baked inside it. Â When we called to inform them the rude would not credit the charge back & said to "save the plastic & bring it back". Â What! One person that order the tuna took one bite & offered the other half to everyone in sight all to no avail. Â Will not be returning there.
Review Source:What attracted me to this spot was the fact is is family owned and operated. Â unfortunately I wanted to love it more than I actually did. Â The food was okay and the service was the same. I had higher expectations for the food and was quite disappointed. Â The food was bland and some of what I had was over cooked as well. Â I have to say I will not return to try the menu again.
Review Source:I'm sorry but I have to say, the food is great, but the service is TERRIBLE!! Those ladies make me never want to go in there, and they have been there for years. I try it every once in a while because I really like the food. Â However, those snotty woman are always there. The best we do is get the food take out.
Review Source:Been working in Springfield for a few years and Saratoga is a great quick lunch getaway.  The pizza is good and the Gyro's are  GINORMOUS.  Watch out for the onions tho.  Staff could be a little friendlier.  Decent family restaurant.  If you pass by it stop in and grab a bite.  You won't be disappointed.
Review Source:Just tried this place for the first time tonight. We'd passed it a million times saying oh we will try it sometime, and just never got around to it until now.
I got a steak and cheese sub, and my husband got a medium pizza with green pepper and pepperoni.
We really liked the pizza (I tried a few bites) it was much better than the typical delivery stuff we are used to, and they know what extra cheese means!
My steak and cheese was very good as well. It had a ton of meat on it, and they used really finely shredded lettuce which I liked. Also the mayo they used was really tasty.
ummmmm...... to each his own.
i think some people have sentimental attachments to this place that blur their taste buds because this place is just average. i mean bland average. you can get yourself a good sized chicken pita or a big salad, but the food here is really just lunchtime filler material.
3 stars is me being nice.
My family loves going to this family owned business. The staff is very friendly and the food great. If your looking for a gourmet salad, go else where- the salad is your basic iceburg lettuce and etc. mix... nothing special- but you go here for the pasta and the pizza. The calzones are KILLER and huge. When we order one, we each eat (me and hubby) and have plenty to take home. For about $12, you can't beat that in my opinion. When I was pregnant with our daughter and on bedrest, my husband knew to bring me a calzone from Saratoga. yeeeeeah
Review Source:This is a family tradition. My parents started taking myself and my sister here...well since it opened in... I want to say 1988. Its a family restaurant, that's survived the test of times. Its Greek owned, and the original Greek staff are the type that no matter how long I've been gone, I get bright warm smiles, and verbally tossed with asking where the hell I've been... I'm sitting smiling about it as I type.
The food is your typical Greek/Italian fare. The menu covers a lot of choices, and everyone should find something. Its a family restaurant. Its not high class, its some crazy place that will wow you with presentation.
It will fill your belly, it has always tasted good. Yes, the prices have risen, but nothing crazy...
There pizza is still some of the best in the area, and I'll drive from the middle of Fairfax all the way Springfield (have to be careful, least my Mother find out I'm in the area) and get a large pie and bring it back to my crib.
4 Stars for the fact that some of the new servers just aren't as friendly as the others.
Maybe it is just me, but this place is always crowded and the food is just not that good. Â It could be due to the lack of any other restaurants in the immediate area. Â This is a typical Greek/Italian place-subs, pizza, assorted Greek and Italian dishes-nothing too scary or different. The prices are very high for what you get. If I am paying $15.00 for a meal I want better atmosphere and better tasting food. Â The majority of food I have tried here has no taste-none. Mu husband had a tuna sandwich and it seems as though it was tuna, a touch of mayo and nothing else-very bland. One time I had a salad-mostly iceberg lettuce which was very watery (at least they wash the vegetables) and the water totally diluted the dressing-again no taste. Â This place really needs to invest in a spice rack.
The subs are $6.00 and above-no chips or pickle if you carry out, but you can buy them separately-talk about nickle and diming. They also charge for refills on the sodas. A grilled cheese is $4.50 (again, no chips or pickle if you carry out-just two pieces of bread and some cheese) according to the most recent menu I have. They clear your table before everyone is done eating -don't put your fork down, they may think you are done and it will be taken away. Â I really thing the only reason they are still in business and can charge the prices they do is simply convenience and lack of other options in the area.
i used to eat at the pizzeria a lot after skool (being a latch key kid and all - i had to feed myself somehow - heh). Â anyway, this has to be one of the best family restaurants in springfield va - great pizza, good service, clean... it has that southern home feel hospitality. Â gawd i miss this place :(
