I was in the neighborhood at a local car wash so we decided to stop in. I was immediately seated and a very friendly waitress came over and took our drink order and brought us coffee to start. It was fresh and hot.
The breakfast menu was easy to read not 2o pages long like some diners, and we were able to make our choice very quickly.
I ordered the farmer's omelette . Three eggs, sausage, potatoes and American cheese. It also was served with home fries and I got rye toast. My husband ordered Taylor ham egg and cheese on a hard roll with fries.(This is Jerzee after all and it is a must when ordering diner food in the am or late at night!!)

Our waitress bought our food out fairly quickly. She was very attentive replenished our coffee right away. Continually asked if we needed anything.
I appreciated that when I asked for Splenda she bought it.
My omelette was large, but i would have preferred it a little less dry. My rye toast was lightly browned and buttered, and the home fries were crisp.

    The service was 4 stars
The atmosphere and cleanliness  4 stars
    The food  3 stars

Nothing special here but we usually end up here once a month until what I witnessed the other day.  We were eating lunch close to the cashier and the manager or owner asked this 90 year lady who could barely walk about the previous visit and the tip that she left..  She said she left one and the owner/manager was embarrassing her in front of everyone.  Really!  She could barely walk out of the place and didn't look like she would stiff the waitress.  I must say the service is not that great and the food is just mediocre.  Either way, won't be back after the way they treated this little old granny..

Can't decide what was worse - the food or the service. When we got there there was no one seated near us and there was no waitress in sight except for woman behind the counter who didn't seem to care one way or another. I had to get up and find a waitress. Once the food was served she was no where to be found. She forgot the soup I had ordered and was kind enough to tell " oh don't worry about" like I was supposed to be relieved that I was not going to charged. My son ordered a super sized burger that was too big for the bun and so soupy he couldn't eat it. When I complained waitress as said she would speak to manager but when we were paying he did not address our complaint. When I confronted him the waitress said she had told the other manager. So I am expected to believe there where 2 managers on duty late on a Wednesday when there where only 3 tables in the entire place. His only response was that it was too late i already paid and he will take care of me next time.

Like there will be a next time. Stay away. Only gave them a star because seems like I have to.

The food is good but I will never go there again.  We were there Sunday for lunch and the waitress was bad, lazy and rude.  She was mad that we didn't know what we wanted as soon as we were seated.  She was mad at my autistic son for reaching over to touch his baba when she wanted to put the coffee on the table.  She said if he got burned because we couldn't control our kid, she was not responsible.  I was drinking tea and she refilled with coffee.  My son asked for an extra pickle and she brought it when were were ready to pay the bill.
I talked to the manager about her behavior and that her comment about my son really was uncalled for.  We have worked so hard with him and he sometimes acts impulsive, but he is doing the best that a four year old autistic boy can do.

All he said was that he was sorry and we all have crosses to carry in life.   Needless to say I will never spend my money there again.   We eat out frequently and no place has ever been so nasty to my son.:

I was in the neighborhood due to a death of my partner's friend. We got hungry so we came here to eat. Honestly it's just a regular no frills diner with decent diner food. It wasn't bad, but there wasn't much to "rave" about.  I think I had a burger and fries with a soda.

We've been here several times for late breakfast or just to pick up dessert. We leave full and satisfied! The desserts are fresh and delicious! We recommend this dinner and will come back soon!

I've been here often - the staff is always friendly. The food is OK. But once me and my fiance took some dessert to go, peices of cake from their display and when we got it home, my peice had mold on it.
So maybe stick to freshmade stuff - not what's in the case....

Soooo we went all the way to this diner because we were bored.... Walking in I felt like I was back in the 50's.  The tables and booths were black and white nostalgic awesomenesses.  The waiters and floor staff were dressed more like be-boppers than waiters.

The food was nothing more than standard run of the mill diner food.  What I do want to say is that my waffle was SLAMMIN for real!  I am very particular on how I like my waffles.  Me and my fat girl alter ego eat waffles with breakfast and dinner.    Don't ever in your weak life hand me a soft on the outside waffle, or a not soft on the inside one.  Better make sure it is crispy on the out and soothing on the in...k?

Hub of course ordered the chicken fingers which he said were most likely frozen precooked.  My little girl was very pleased with her silver dollar pannies.  Ohhh, they make good taylor ham.  Call it pork roll and see what happens.... But yea it is really good!

Go if you are in the area but don't go out of your way.

I stopped here with my fiancé after shopping at some stores on Route 22.  Have to say it was nice!  As we walked in, we were promptly seated by an Egyptian(?) man, possibly the owner.  He seated us in a nice, quiet area and we were each given a glass of water and a menu by the waitress.

The menu was fairly extensive, but I've been to diners with even bigger menus (Staten Island's Colonnade diner is great!).  Once we decided what to order, the waitress asked if we were ready and we placed the order.

We waited, maybe less than 10 minutes.   First, we received our drinks (Coca cola and water, respectively), got our buffalo wings, and then our meal cheeseburger deluxe.  The buffalo wings were absolutely delicious; I definitely recommend!  The cheeseburger I asked for well done, but it seemed as if it was cooked medium-well, so still not cooked enough for my taste.  Plus, it didn't seem hot enough, almost like it was reheated, but I could be wrong.  The onion rings were good; not too coated/breaded, and not too thick or too thin.  The fries were good as well.

The waitress refilled our drinks without us even having to ask, which I thought was nice.  I hope she got the tip we left on our table, as we paid our bill by the register.

Overall, not bad.  I will definitely give this place another try.

The Scotchwood Diner can, by appearances, fill the bill as the consummate chrome-and-glass Jersey diner.  Their waitstaff tries hard, but frequently comes off as confused.  The menu is massive.  As far as the food goes, this may be the most consistently average diner in the area-- not necessarily a bad thing.  In almost 30 years of coming here, from time to time, we've never found anything outright horrible or notably great, and can't make that statement about any other diner in the area.  I would suspect that they buy the same frozen food as many of the area's diners, but seem to be better able to avoid issues in bringing it to the table.

Hit this up for a late sunday breakfast.  Solid play on all the classic breakfast staples.  quick service, even when crowded.

In terms of atmosphere, menu, clientele and presentation, this could serve very well as the prototype for THE New Jersey diner experience, what with the smoked glass dividers between booths, floor plan cut up in sections with mirrored walls at the ends, and looks the part from the curb with a shiny silver exterior.

serves liquor.  well all rightee then.

I went back some time later and had dinner.  Stick to the diner basics for best results...  I really rate (and love) a diner on its breakfast so I would not call this a four-star dinner option (even graded on a curve for what it is) but rating stands b/c breakfast is what matters in a diner.

Shiny, silver exterior...nothing special. 90's chic interior with geometric shapes cut into the glass dividers. It was clean. The service wasn't rude, but it was kinda MIA. Can a bitch get some hot sauce?! The food wasn't bad, but far from spectacular. We only had breakfast. I'd consider going there for dinner...someday.

This is a great Jersey Diner. The food is delicious, the menu is ridiculously huge, there are great rotating specials, the staff is friendly and the prices are nice.

The staff is easy. Are you looking for the gruff but friendly foreign guy behind the counter? Done! The older waitress who's a little like a mom, friendly and looking to feed a growing boy? Done! They get a glass of water to you before you've ordered and will help you figure out how to get the most out of your meal. Their suggestions are always honest.

As with any diner, breakfast is always a good bet. Their omelettes are big fat ones with great fillings. The Farmer's Omelette will run you about $8. It has potatoes, onions, sausage and cheese and comes with home fries and toast. Their home fries are the boiled, then fried type and are served plain, but have good potato flavor.

The sandwiches are also good. They come with cole slaw and a pickle. The Reuben is great, with either corned beef or pastrami. It comes with fries also and runs around $9.

The dinners are just great diner dinners. The meat loaf is a dense, filling, delicious brick. They have red cabbage as an option for sides, which is a rare surprise, though this dish is a little disappointing. The Yankee Pot Roast isn't as good as the one I make at home, but I still like it, though it's made with a lot of onions. The roast chicken is usually kind of dry, so I'd skip it.

The best part is the specials. Usually ranging from $11 to $17, these change every day, though some favorites come back every couple of weeks, like the delicious wiener schnitzel with potato pancakes. You get salad and soup, plus the entree with a couple sides and dessert. This is a great deal, though dessert is limited to ice creams, puddings and the cake of the day. I'd usually give the cake a pass, but all the puddings and ice creams are good if not great. The garden salad is nothing special, but fine. The greek salad is definitely good, with lots of onions and feta cheese.

There is nothing super exciting about the food at any Jersey Diner. It's comfort food served for a reasonable price. It's great for a late night eat or a casual dinner when you don't feel like cooking. The Scotchwood does not rise above this stereotype. However, it is perfect if what you want is dinner at a Jersey Diner.

I went here for the first time today. The portions are quite large and the service was fast and friendly. I recommend the panini sandwiches, though the omelets are swell too. Much more reasonably priced than other diners in the area. An extra point for the delicious cookies at the register and the jukeboxes.

my parents have taken me here a few times over the years because my mom loves going out for breakfast.  it's a pretty average diner but it's good for morning eats.

i've had various omelets and tried my sister's waffles or pancakes (i'm savory, she's sweet).  if you're from california or anywhere with decent mexican food, don't get the mexican omelet.  it sounds good:  tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, salsa.  i strongly believe jalapenos make everything better but not in this case.  mostly because the salsa was disgusting.

they have reasonably priced breakfast specials and the service is decent.  i know i will be back the next time i'm in new jersey.
