Sun Tavern

Growing up, I used to come and eat here all the time for lunch on Sunday afternoons with friends (mostly because we were too young to drive and it was walking distance from the church we went to) but I always enjoyed it. I was in town again recently and stopped by with my dad. Previous experience wasn't always superb, but it was by no means terrible.

My visit recently, however, was so great. The aesthetic of the restaurant itself is dark and not incredibly eye-catching by any means, but it certainly lives up to its sports bar status through and through. If you're looking for fine dining, you won't find it here. But you will find a great assortment of delicious pizza made from scratch as well as other guilty-pleasure items like Italian Sausage Ptarmigan Grilled Sub. (My choice this past go-around!)

The service was great. Our waiter was very friendly and efficient, also we ordered Calamari as a starter and it came out super fast and was some of the best fried Calamari I have ever had. (Not that I'm an expert, but boy was it good!)

Will I say that this is my most favorite restaurant to go to? Probably not, but the food is spot-on even if it has a slight hole-in-the-wall feel to it. Definitely recommend it! Also good if you don't have too much time to sit around but still want a filling meal. The food all came out super fast!

I live in Scotch Plains so Sun Tavern is one of our local bars. My girlfriend and I go here almost once a week and we love it here. They have a good menu and every time I go I try to get something different, and I've yet to be disappointed. They also have a good drink selection. We've never sat in the dining room section, we usually sit at the bar and the service here is great. We've experienced a few different bartenders and all of them are attentive, nice and helpful. They're great with recommending food/drinks and food always comes out fast. As everyone has said, their pizza is really good and that's what they're known for; but the rest of the food is really good too (especially the salads). Prices are good too. For 2 of us to eat and have a couple drinks each it never seems to cost more than $35. Highly recommend this place as a good local bar so grab food at when you don't feel like cooking or just feel like getting out of the house.
