Super cool new brewery and bar. My wife and I tried all five of their beers, which are brewed on-site. All of them were quite good. They didn't really take any risks or anything, as they're all fairly common styles, but they're all quite nicely done.
The atmosphere of the bar is pretty great. There is a very light and airy feel with the front wall being primarily composed of garage doors. A nice place to day drink and soak in some sun, even while inside. There is a very large, very nice patio outside. One touch I liked was an actual DJ spinning records. Definitely more interesting than the bartender's iPod or Pandora, and he played a nice range of music, including some very good deep tracks.
Definitely worth heading to 4th and 4th. This area seems like it's about to get very cool, and Seventh Son will be right in the middle of a great scene soon.
As much as I love my hometown of Columbus, Seventh Son made me feel blissfuly on vacation. The space is renovated-cool, perhaps a former service station that now boasts a tasting room where the garage doors can be lifted to bring the outdoors inside.
I know Seventh Son's been open for awhile, but why haven't I been hearing more buzz? I know the in-house brews were a little delayed, so maybe it wasn't gaining traction as a brewery. Or, maybe in the winter it just felt like another bar. Well, I'm here to tell you that if you haven't been when the weather is warm and the house brews are on tap, then you really haven't been to Seventh Son.
With all these craft brew/breweries opening all over the city, Seventh Son's space sets it apart. It's not close to the hubbub of High Street, but not too far, either. There's parking, and great crowd flow. Also, a woman's touch is evident-- the space was dotted with flower arrangements, art, and other things lacking in the similar, yet far more brotastic, joints.
Also, it seems like busy nights include a food truck parked in the lot, so you can get your nibble on.
The house brews were tasty but a teeny bit flat for my tast. Full bodied and great flavors, though.
I'm impressed. Make Seventh Son your staycation destination! (Or, bring your out of town friends so they can see how cool Columbus is.)
