a whole lot of good food
I work til 11pm so was happy to know that Barrel 44's kitchen is open until midnight.  So I rolled on over to their High St. location.  I was disappointed to learn the po boy was no longer on the menu so I opted for a Burger.  When I arrived it was nice and peaceful which I expected since it was a tuesday night.  It did not take long at all for the Burger and fries to come out.  It was A LOT of food.  I did not expect such a big plate for under $10.  The burger was well made with good flavor.  The fries were delicious as well.  By the time I began eating the place started to fill up and become loud.  Overall good meal.  This place looks like it is more for drinkers though since the bar was stocked full of spirits.
I'm a fan of this place, but the service is sometimes seriously lacking. Cool whiskey bar vibe, nice drink selection, decent food, but they often seem annoyed by the customers. They are especially odd when it comes to seating people in the back room--you have to promise to order dinner, and they usually refuse to move tables/chairs around to accommodate larger groups (sometimes seemingly preferring that the room remain empty). I'd think about giving them 5 stars for drinks/ambiance, but more like 3 stars for service/attitude.
Review Source:The have several of my favorite brands of Whiskey and Scotch on hand.... what is not to love! Plus if you enjoy some craft beer they keep a small but very good selection on draft.  Oh.. I almost forgot... they have food! I've only eaten here a hand full of times but  was always satisfied.
