Listen up! Your favorite wine consumer is speaking here...
If you want great selection, at a competitive price, with a fab-o atmosphere, super helpful staff and a killer central location, it really doesn't get much better than WOH.
Formerly known as a chain, WOH has really transformed into a locally owned wine powerhouse, which is great to have in the area.
I've been here on a number of occasions with the intent of only coming home with one bottle of wine, but always seem to leave with at least two or three by help of whomever is on staff that day, their suggestions, and the simple layout of the store. Everything is organized by varietal and you're sure to find something, anything to take home!
There's a small tasting space upstairs and I know they host tastings occasionally - which I'm going to have to try sometime soon!
What I just noticed recently - although I've been in numerous times - is their awesome and ROBUST bottle craft beer selection! I found local brews and out-of-town favorites.
Perhaps my favorite section of the store (besides the bold California red selection) is the absolutely hilarious wine tags by the register. A MUST for a gift. I want to buy them all because they all make me LOL. My favorite to date: "This is the best wine my wallet says money could buy."
The girls and I went here on our night of fun during this past Gallery Hop. They were offering 6 tasting tickets for $10. The "value" wines were downstairs and each taste was 1 ticket, or you could go upstairs for the premium wines and beers for 2 tickets. This was a great opportunity to taste different wines and learn about flavors I might like or dislike before investing in a whole bottle. The pourer preferred to re-use our old sippers rather than a quick rinse or giving us new ones. I honestly didn't mind, but I am used to tastings where they are very strict about pouring into a clean glass. Their selection of barware and accessories was great. They had some kitschy flasks that were really cute. Next gift I need for the Wine-o in my life, I know where I'm going!
