Let me start by saying that I'm a *bit* of a brunch snob. This place? A little gem? I beg to differ.
Firstly, they only serve one type of coffee and don't offer soy milk, which is absolutely bonkers in a state like Vermont, which has tons of eco-minded vegans and vegetarians.
Secondly, the serving sizes were pitiful and the quality/originality of the food wasn't anything to write home about. When asked which would be more filling, the cornmeal pancakes (which were described as "not as thin as a crepe, but thinner than a pancake") and the french bread french toast, she recommended the corncakes. My husband ended up ordering the french toast and *both* dishes were tiny, not nearly filling enough for a day of snowboarding, and lacked depth of flavor. At least they served real Vermont maple syrup - the only saving grace. On top of that, the menu lacked diversity and had no unique breakfast meats, like turkey sausage - only the usual meats like bacon, sausage and ham. Major womp.
Thirdly, our server was either having a bad day or is just generally disinterested in her job/customers (I'm a server, and I invest myself in my customers - I know they're my livelihood - this young woman clearly didn't seem to have the same opinion).
Having spent the previous breakfast at Up For Breakfast (just a few blocks away), we were completely let-down by this breakfast joint. Just save yourself the disappointment and go to Up For Breakfast instead.
This little gem in the depot district of Manchester, help fuel my snowboarding excursions, during my stay up near mount stratton. They are only open for breakfast and lunch and is pretty quick to fill up on most busy days, so try and get there early.
The service as most things upstate was top notch. The grub selection sources from most local offerings, i had the Corned beef hash one time and the herbed scrambled eggs the other and was very pleased with the plates. I even washed it down with some fresh squeezed orange Juice.
So if you don't want to end up being a grumpy soul for not having a good breakfast to start your day right , you know now where to go.
Disappointing....ordered pancakes and something called corned beef for breakfast...pancakes were just fluffy but nothing spectacular, syrup & butter too ordinary..the corned beef not what we expected, it was dry and felt like chewing on lil squares of cartlages...hot chocolate would've been ok if not too sweet. Will not go back again. The waitress was nice enough though, was past breakfast time but let us order from bf menu.
Review Source:I tried Sherries based on reviews, and I'm so glad I did!!! The place inside looks like a regular country restaurant, nothing too unique. But we got a table by the window and it was really nice. I had one egg scrambled, blueberry pancakes and bacon. It was the best breakfast I've ever had. The eggs were so fresh tasting and the blueberry pancakes were like any I've ever had. I'm a huge diner person and nothing can match these pancakes there. They were silver dollar size and tasted like heaven. My boyfriend had the Grand Marnier French toast, which was so different, and he loved them!! We ordered an extra side of bacon, which also was great. Waitress was nice, and the manager came over which was also very nice and welcoming. He asked how we found the place and told us its more of a locals restaurant, and we were so happy we tried it! I highly recommend.
Review Source:Corn griddle crepes with fresh apples -- very unique to Vermont. Blueberry pancakes with fresh maple syrup were some of the best I had. Vegetable omelette with delicious fillers; splurge on the egg whites. Decent prices. Coffee and hot chocolate watered down, if you're used to the city brew. Otherwise waitress service was top-notch. One of the best in town, according to locals.
Review Source:Hmm, I wonder about the rave reviews I read for this place. Â It was good but we chose it after finding out there was a 1+ hour wait at Up for Breakfast. Â We had a 10 minute wait at Sherrie's and jumped at it. Â The orange sauce on the French Toast wasn't good. Â The coffee was decent. Â The service was extra-friendly. Â The omelette was good but nothing special. Â I'd go back for friendly, prompt service but not so much for the food.
Review Source:We drive more than an hour to breakfast at Sherries. We love the outside tables in pleasant weather, so we can take our dogs with us. The chef offers a wide range of breakfast selections, as well as fantastic daily specials. His palate is excellent, as he combines all sorts of unusual ingredients to create sumptuous omelets, yummy pancakes, and Eggs Benedict in 3 varieties. Those Corn Griddle Cakes alluded to in the other review are another favorite. I have food allergies, so having a wheat/gluten free alternative is always appreciated. When they're not too busy, the chef has even cut up an apple for me, rather than the ones in maple syrup, as I don't do syrups. Half the fun of going is all the great specials the chef creates. Coffee and tea are good and plentiful. Lunch at Sherries also provides great selections.
Review Source:On the way up through the mountains, I stopped for breakfast at Sherrie's Cafe, which is located along Routes 11/30 between the center of town and US 7. Parking in the back and enter through the side door. This is a clean and homey restaurant serving breakfast and lunch. There is seating at the counter and table seating.
Some menu offerings include egg dishes, crab cakes benedicts, omelets, pancakes, oatmeal, sandwiches, wraps, salads, New England Coffee, and Pepsi fountain drinks. Bottled beer available. The prices here are slightly higher than the typical breakfast/lunch place, $7.95-$9.95 for most dishes, but this is expected in Manchester VT (but not in Manchester NH, hehe).
I started out with some coffee, which was just right. The couple sitting next to me had ordered some good sized omelets including the Spanish Omelet which looked pretty good and stuffed with Italian sausage, tomatoes, sweet red peppers, basil, & cheddar cheese. The toast served here comes from a bakery in Rutland.
However, I had the Corn Griddle Cakes with Maple Apples ($7.95), which was a very good choice. The rolled griddle cakes are wheat free, thinner than pancakes, but thicker than crepes, topped with sweet apples and drenched in a syrup. During breakfast, I was offered and given some refills on the coffee, which was definitely needed for my drive.
Overall, a very good breakfast and good efficient service.
