Hot tip: bring bug spray if you want to sit outside. Yikes.

Went with friends on a Saturday night. Half the city was down the shore, so the place wasn't that crowded. The first of us to arrive made it clear we were there for drinks only, and the hostess said it was no problem. We were seated outside in the garden, and the waitress immediately became visibly annoyed that we were not ordering food. At no point during the 2+ hours we were there was there every a point where there weren't free tables, so it wasn't like we were preventing her from having customers who wanted to order a full meal. When we paid, she did not bring the change back, which is incredibly rude and presumptuous. So, very bad marks for service. Won't be returning any time soon.

Silk City is a very amazing place. It is a diner on one side and a mini nightclub on the other side. Both sides serve alcohol, so if you can't stand walking through a bunch of people across the dance floor at the club, you can always order your drinks at the diner.  The venue is pretty old, so it's not that appealing. You can't see much at night though, so it shouldn't be a problem to come here for a good dance.

I've already been here a few times, and I can tell there are a lot of regulars here. People seem to know the DJ(s) well, and I've even seen a few of the same people on different days. Also, every time I came, the dance floor was PACKED! It is usually full of people and you can't really go anywhere far into the dance floor.

Silk City plays hip-hop music, or what my friend likes to call it, "swag music." It isn't the mainstream music that most clubs play, so you probably won't hear the uppity house music that's playing everywhere. You will hear old school songs, and some of them can even make you hype because you would be so excited to hear that song being played since you haven't heard for a while. This is what makes this place pretty awesome; I can get away from mainstream and go back to the music I use to love at clubs.

Warning: The lounge gets super packed on weekend nights starting Thursday! The ventilation also sucks; therefore, you will be hot and you will be drenched in sweat.

    Pros: Music, Diner next door
    Cons: So hot, so crowded

Great specials, not bad service. Get the empanada appaetizer. Well worth the drive from jersey.

One of my favorite brunch spots in the city. Their breakfast options are great, but I normally go for the cheese burger. Their edamame is also bangin'- it comes with this awesome sweet/spicy Asian dipping sauce. I always ask what's in it, but forget the minute I walk out the door. Oh well. The wings are also tasty. Lastly, they generally have a pretty good draft list and their mimosas are on point.

I'm not much of a dancer, but I have always had a good time at their events. DJ Deejay spins there frequently, and his events are a lot of fun. MMP, anyone? Just be prepared for how crowded it gets. It's worth noting, though, that even when it is jam-packed on the club side, the bartenders are awesome and you don't wind up waiting around.

When I first came here, I was impressed by the outdoor seating area and its decor. Also the front entrance's display is amazing. The food was also good; I love the calamari, which was the best I had. Then when I returned for a late lunch, the food I ordered wasn't good. I had the BBQ quail. I would have to visit this place many times to sample their food. Overall, it is a decent place.

Got there before the cover, Its a really adorable retro atmosphere. The place is part diner-part bar which I loved so much. When we got there it was still slow and we had time to hang out at talk (around 9 PM) after an hour or two the place started to fill up really quickly and the place was filled with people dancing.

The outside bar was also really nice and comfortable. You have to exit the dance floor area then cross through the diner to get to the outside. I didn't mind that though since the diner area smelled amazing and the bar next to the booths was lit up by a red light. They really do a nice job making the place comfortable/cute. The drinks weren't too expensive either.

My only complaint is that the bathrooms are small/too few and the lines really get backed up. Also, the rush for a cab at the end of the night is sort of ridiculous (but that can be said about a lot of places in Philadelphia)

This review only pertains to the diner, which was ok but not great.  The dance floor looked fine from the door but I didn't experience it.

Went for a late dinner.  The dance party was in full effect, so it was loud and conversation was difficult.

The staff was friendly enough and service was fast.  The calamari was also pretty good. However, the burger was a lot of bread with not much meat or toppings.  The turkey BLT was overpowered by the aioli.

I probably would have felt fine if it had been one of those $20 Applebee's deals, but since this is supposed to be better than Applebee's, I was not impressed.

I"ve never had the food here.  This review only corresponds to Saturday nights at Silk City.  Where to begin?  This place used to be my favorite spot in the city.  I partied here for 3 years during law school...moved away for 2 1/2 years.  Every time I came to visit Philly, I usually ended up at Silk City.  Now that I'm back, I'm not sure what happened.  Sure the place still gets packed shoulder to shoulder, but DJ Deejay used to be so much better.  Better music selection, better transitions between songs, better everything.  It's almost as if he's just playing music that he wants to listen to without a regard of how this affects the dance floor.  DJ Deejay, I hope you're reading this because I want you to step up your game.  I'll try this place out one more time, but it might be time for me to move on.

I have a very high degree of loyalty to this place, as I have worked with the management of Silk City as a volunteer for Dining Out for Life. They have always been very supportive of DOFL's efforts, particularly Joe. The staff has always been very kind to me whenever I have volunteered there as a part of the event, and they have gone so far as to bring me donation envelopes when a patron has left one on the table that I didn't see.

The food is very good, particularly the salmon dish that they serve, and in addition have expanded their beer garden and outdoor seating area. It's reasonably priced for a nice dinner after work, and the wait staff is very attentive and courteous. Definitely patronize this business and all the other Dining Out for LIfe locations.

After being verbally assaulted by both the owner and bouncer on the night of my batchelorette, this establishment will not be getting any more of our money. We took 2 bus rides through the rain and arrived on the dance floor quite famished. My mom and I got take out from the diner and brought it over to our table in the dance area (we didn't want to be the only ones eating in the diner while everyone else danced). The owner and bouncer (completely unnecessary use of personnel) descended upon us, literally confiscated our boxes out of our hands and told us we could get the food when we leave. We asked if we could please have a refund as we were not interested in cold, soggy pizza at the end of the night. We were denied with a sour attitude as well as being told that the girl at the diner that gave us our food would then have to be fired for giving it to us. We requested to speak to the manager and manager further, where I suggested that the guy manning the door to the dance floor should be penalized, not the waitress (as he saw us bring in the food). They weren't interested in having a conversation; it was clear that they just wanted to manhandle the situation. At this point, I realized that this place was operated by 'roided-up, semi-misogynistic meatheads and we weren't winning this battle. So rather than let it ruin my night, we went back to the dance floor to have a good time, which was happening until the meaty bouncer decided to make another close personal encounter. He was offended that we were dancing with our middle fingers in the air and got in my face (seriously, like 2 inches from my face) about it, asking "why you gotta disrespect me like that? I see you doing that." Rather than be a responsible employee with better things to worry about, I guess he wanted to harp on me in my crown, veil and sash. I felt sorry for this guy- his feelings were hurt over such an insignificant gesture which could have been aimed at anybody (but truthfully really was at him). My pity for his feebleness grew when he proceeded to let me know he was an ex-marine. Not exactly sure how that threat would apply in a dance club and directed at a bride to be. Needless to say, we left at that point because I'd much rather stand in the rain than continue to be berated by these lunatics.

Oh man.  Really hip little joint, good food, love the vibe.  Probably best for groups of 2-4, and not at all busy for a late dinner during the week.  Looking forward to my next trip back to Philly to enjoy another meal here.

So, 2 Ohioans and a Southern girl walk into this bar ...

... for a reunion of sorts. After standing in the lounge area for approximately 2 minutes while the waitress/bartender/ain't-cho-ordinary-hostess girl walked past us 4 times like it's totally normal for folks to just stand in the middle of a music-less dance floor, my chums and I just saddown at the bar. 'Twas cool. For a hot minute or so we sipped Manhattans and caught up on stories and chortles, and then we got down to the munchables--things I know Silk City does particularly well, which is why I suggested it in the first place.

Oooh wee, those thai-chili wangs are delectable (!) and the fresh-cut fries (skin on, crisply fried and lovingly dashed with salt) easily hit the spot for the 3 of us. Then we went and ordered the mussels, and that big ol' bowl did us up right, too.

Food-wise, Silk City has yet to disappoint me. As errybody in Philly already knows it's not your typical diner fare; it's fancy without bein' too faincy and the price is always right. I'm happy this hasn't changed--I'm not a regular by Yelp standards. However, this was the first time I didn't devour the cornbread/corn muffins--it was probably a mistake. When you go, getcha self one for me. Don't worry yourself about whether or not the co'nebread goes with whatever you're eatin' or drinkin'. It will. Enjoy yourself.

And now, a li'l diddy 'bout the atmosphere.

It was a rather drizzly Saturday night, and e'en though I don't know how you go 'bout getting one of those high-top tables in the lounge, the bar had plenty of seats and the bartender ladies were the appropriate mix of hipster-aloof and oh-you-look-thirsty-I-can-help. My one buddy asked them to turn from TMZ to the Knicks game, and after a little back-and-forth about what a basketball game is and how the Knicks are not the Sixers, we watched a little bit of the game and kept our chat on. And then--and I'm sorry to have to go Phil Collins on ya, but it's a must--something happened on the way to a jovial conversation.

And by something I mean a horde of bachelorettes and the start of DJ DeeJay's set. I mean, it's a lounge so we certainly weren't objectin' to the music and volume boost ... and sure, the tables did scatter as folks started their boogey. (And love is a many splendid thing, so congrats to the happy couple.) It was just hilarious to watch the mood change from casually clothed people chillin' and chattin' to chicks in lacy black frocks push up on the bar besides all their dudes in their M-F khaki pants. We were surrounded, but still enjoying ourselves as DJ DeeJay led off with one good song. I am sad that I can't remember what it was; it was the most delightful setup, because when it segued straight into Steely Dan's Peg, I honestly thought the lounge still held its promise.

But then I don't know 'cause I don't have all the answers, but something good went way bad when the TV got turnt off, somebody's daddy sat down in the middle of the dance floor and we found ourselves overcome with Lovefool (from the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack--you know, the Leo DiCaprio one).

I'm telling you, when 2 dozen, pearl-clad OMG-ers start exclaiming in unison love me! Love me! Say that you love me? It's time to press on, and so we did.

End of this story? We've had our problems, but I'm still on their side--the city is still silky.

Silk City hits the spot for brunch when appetites are high, wallets are light, and booze is needed. Despite its somewhat inconvenient location, it may be the most versatile brunch venue in Philly.

There can be a slight wait for the indoor tables during peak hours but there's always seating in the beer garden. Our waitress was very friendly and helpfully elaborated on menu items. The brunch cocktails at Silk City go beyond the norm with many original, strong concoctions. The tap list is similarly ample, and non-alcoholic beverages are represented well with bottomless La Colombe coffee and fresh OJ.

The specials seemed delicious in a ridiculous sort of way (foie gras french toast , grilled quail with spoon bread, duck confit pancake), but we stuck with regular menu items. Every plate that came out of the kitchen earned longing looks and salivation from the table. Standouts included pork belly hash (crispy, fatty bits of pork with cider undertones), chicken and waffles (perfectly fried chicken with zesty chipotle waffles), and the shrimp and grits (oxymoronically large crustaceans with pillowy grits and a savory broth). The more standard items were worthy as well, including a breakfast burrito and crab omelette. Portions were ample and prices were very reasonable.

Silk City's menu appeals to carnivores, sweet tooths, aspiring gourmets, and picky eaters alike. The drink program similarly has options for the adventurous but does the basics well. Great service and fairly low prices furthermore make Silk City one of the best brunch experiences I've had in Philly.

I have been there twice already and both times I had a great experience. I'm a vegeterian therefore of course not always I find choices for myself. Here that wasn't a problem. Many very tasty choices :) The staff was very attentive and nice. My most favorite part about this place is their outdoor seating. Not ,any places in Phily with such cool "backyard".

Silk City may sound like a sleezy strip club, but it's my new go to brunch spot. Ever since they closed Cafe Estelle, we've had to walk an extra block to get our early morning delicous fix, but it's worth it.

I usually order the specials and I am rarely disappointed. I've also always had great service. There's one waiter there who we think looks like a young Justin Timberlake... He's awesome... plus he looks like a young Justin Timberlake. If only he would sing "Bye Bye Bye" when we left fat and happy. A girl can dream

One thing that I found odd about this place is that whenever they're busy and we come in they always say "Two? We're all full in the diner but we could put you in the lounge" and they alway say it in this apologetic way as if the lounge were a terrible place to be. I actually prefer the lounge! Hey Silk City! Stop selling the lounge short!

Good bar to dance at in the area. Good parking. Drinks aren't that expensive. So you can buy a lot of 'em and going to DelRossi's afterwards.

In regards to food during the day, it's very unimpressive. I think people are wowed by the diner aspect in the city. Brunch was heavily salted and the texture of things were not pleasant. The bloody I got was not flavorful. Plenty of other diners/driveins/dives options in town.

Joseph C. is spot on with his review!  I was in town for a convention and will usually check up yelp reviews and decide whats for dinner.   The Yelp reviews were good as were the Zagat's and to add the cherry on top, the've been on foodtv!!  Your first impression when you get there is that this is a trendy local spot with a good vibe.  I went on a Saturday night at 9pm.. the food came out quick but keep in mind my options were limited as half the menu was sold out :-(

I went with the recommendations my server made and ordered the empanadas and flatbread.  Both were ok but not memorable and not worth the $20.  The Yardbird Cocktail was a hit but a little light on the bourbon for my taste.  The Thai Chicken Wings are definitely what saved the evening for me as they were a tasty treat.

I would recommend this place to others looking for a local spot but would suggest you stick with more the typical Diner Dishes such as the fried chicken and meatloaf.  I did not order them but from the looks of others who did they looked scrumptious.  Another reason other then the wings that took my review from a 3 to a 4 is the fact that the people working their really do go out of their way to make this place more then just your typical Diner between the menu, ambiance and cocktails.

The food is above average, but not as good as some similar places in the neighborhood.  What really stands out at Silk City is the beer garden.  It is by far the biggest draw of the restaurant.  There's nothing like having some beers with some friends on a nice night.

I've been to the dance floor side a few times.  I had a good time, but it was a little cramped for my liking.

This is a mainstay-favorite for our family. The service is always good and the food is always delicious. Their brunch is excellent and their dinner is divine. My personal favorite is their tomato soup. What? Yes, seriously, they make the most delicious tomato soup I've ever had. If I could have no other soups for the rest of my life I'd be perfectly satisfied. The mac and cheese is also pretty excellent, my daughter is a huge fan.
And, once spring hits their outdoor seating is so wonderful my mother has commented, and I've agreed, that it almost feels like you're on vacation when you're sitting out there eating on a warm, lovely evening.

Just got back from Sunday brunch here- I don't think I had a bad moment when I was there.

When we got there, we were told it'd be a 20 minute wait- pretty reasonable. So we went to the outside bar to wait and there ended up being 3 seats, so we just sat and ate there. Liz the bartender was awesome and made some pretty awesome drinks. I had the Bloody Maria- made with tequila instead of vodka and it had a spicy salty rim. It also had almost a salad to garnish which I LOVE. My roommates had the strawberry mimosa's- delicious.

For our meal I got the huevos rancheros- OMG. It was amazing. It was layered starting with hard corn tacos, black beans, eggs, cheese, tomatos, salsa, and a creamy sauce.  Sour cream, lettuce, guac and pico were on the side. I also opted for the chorizo which was delicious!

My one roommate had the braised pork belly hash. This was seriously one of the best things I had ever tasted. I'm absolutely getting it the next time I go there. It was sweet and cooked perfectly, topped with 2 eggs and it also had sweet potatoes.

My other roommate got the crab omlette- also really yummy. But I had to admit, it was my least favorite of the 3.

We finished our meal with a pitcher of white sangria- perfect desert! Hint: get the pitcher, a glass is $6 and a pitcher is $18 but for 3 people everyone gets 2!

I loved being outside too! It was such a beautiful day and the beer garden is so eclectic and fun! I think I need to go here every Sunday.

Oh Silk.  Part of me wants to hate you - you're so damn trendy.  But... I just can't because the food is always scrumdiddlyumptious!

If they ever have venison on the menu, get it!  Unless it is the sausage...yuck.  But, their venison steak (or venison steak sandwich) is one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth.

Also, they are one of the few Philly bar/restaurants that actually (consistently) makes my drink of the moment - Dark 'n' Stormy.  And, it's always just right.

Funky, new american cuisine that seems to always provide a no-frills but fun dining experience.  Their retro-diner, hipster style may be considered trendy, but this was their style long ago, and long before their menu was worth remembering.  With new ownership a few years ago, and some much needed improvements to the menu, its become a consistent staple in our brunch routine.

The brunches in the summer are what will bring you in for your first time, there's a great outside patio with eclectic artwork and sculptures around the garden.  In colder months or bad weather, there's the traditional diner vibe in the main room, or a more open space in the nightclub space that's used for overflow seating.

Eggs benedict is a classic dish but with a better substitute than the traditional canadian bacon.  Also available with crab for a lighter breakfast option.  The potatoes served on the side are roasted just till they're browned and crisp, but still soft and tender inside.

The French toast with apples & pears is a great dish to share as a side for the table.

The Belgian wafffle with ice cream is light and a good compliment to the pork belly hash with it's large salty chunks or pork.

Their most famous dish is the Fried chicken and waffles, it sells out early so be sure to put your order in right away before it's gone.

The main menu has some great staples on it, but don't forget the daily specials!

Come back for a dinner, the food is just as good as brunch, but with the added bonus of amsocial scene that turns your dinner into a night out with the option of staying on after for live dj/music, and a very chill bar scene.

I give this place two sets of four stars.

    The Food:
I'm not sure I ever was let down or had a bad meal. They a do a great job with the classics (buffalo/Thai chili wings, grilled cheese or a solid burger) or with their specials. Some of the more creative meals I have had in Philly have been here. The service has been nothing but nice to me and my friends over the past 5 years.

    Nightlife:
I love coming here at night. The one side of the restaurant becomes electric and infectious with dancing. Everyone there looks to be having a good time and gets along (people aren't pushing you out of the way or staring at you). Silk gets great DJs that play the right type of music. It also helps that drinks are all reasonably priced.

What's all the hype about? The music is good if you enjoy dancing to top 40s; the layout for the club section is narrow and cramped. And the bartender appeared to hate her life. I had a great time though, cheers to that! I'll have to check out the diner part of it sometime, but it's cramped there as well and there are like 23198 people for one ladies room.

Its poppin here on most thursdays. Music is mostly hip-hop. Good variety of ppl in the crowd. It has two bars and they can get packed at times. I usually have drink specials (pbr $2). they usually charge a cover ($5) but if u head to the dinner section (make a right at the entrance) it's free.

Ate brunch here it was was just average food. Not that of a big deal for me compared to sabrinas and honeys.  Smaller servings. Can get packed on sunday mornings/afternoon. Theres also outdoor seating if the weather warrants.

This review is solely for the dance party aspect of silk city, and I feel so disappointed because silk city has been built up by many. I can certainly appreciate the diversity. There are young people and ... more 'experienced' people there dancing and having a trying to have a good time. The ratio wasn't so bad so long as you counted the 'experienced' folks.

I'll bet you the DJ really hates playing Kesha. again and again. The music was so bad I made an irish exit.

I've only been here a few times, always for brunch/lunch. Pretty cool place. The food there is pretty good, a little more to be expected than the standard diner food.

My last visit was for brunch with my boo. We got there around 2 in the afternoon, which evidently was a little late because not only was the place pretty full but they were "out" of about half the brunch menu. My fiancé was a little put off by them not having the first 3 things we wanted to order, but I was starving so we stayed and managed to find something we liked.

I ordered the silk cakes with sides of bacon and eggs , playing it safe, and a pomegranate mimosa. He had the braised pork belly hash with poached eggs atop and a side of sausage. Both dishes were...good. Nothing spectacular, and our server was nice.

We do plan on going back again, perhaps a little earlier next time. Also when it gets warmer to check out the neat beer garden.

I have loved Silk City for years - the diner part, the bar/club part, and the outside part.  It's generally a place to go for things of good taste, music, food, and otherwise.

Today I had a really bad brunch experience there.  The bartender/waiter dude was SO RUDE.  I don't know what we did (or didn't do) to piss him off, but he was rude from the second we sat down until the second we got up.  He gave us dirty looks the whole time, was rude while taking our orders, didn't refill our waters or coffees without us asking, didn't ask if we wanted another drink or if we liked our food.  After we finished our food, we kept shooting us dirty glances until we paid and generally made us feel unwelcome.

Maybe his skinny jeans were too tight today?  Or maybe his band just broke up?  Or someone stole his bike?  Or maybe be got in a fight with one of his 8 roommates in Fishtown? Not sure why he was taking it out on us, but it was not appreciated rude brooding hipster dude.

My girlfriend and I went here on a Wednesday night before a concert at the Electric Factory a couple blocks away.  I have been wanting to try this place for years, but for some reason or another only finally made it happen now.  We got here a little after 5:00 and it was fairly empty.  By the time we left at 6:30 the place was packed!

On to the food.  I started with a beer from a fairly decent selection.  We ordered the Mac and Cheese with garlic bread crust (sans bacon because my girlfriend doesn't like it).  I can honestly say it was underwhelming.  I make better mac and cheese myself at home.  The pasta was a little undercooked for me.  I did like the garlic bread topping though.  The cheese was tasty as well.

My girlfriend got the grilled chicken sandwich.  I had a bite and it was quite tasty.  The chicken was cooked great and the addition of the prosciutto and basil pesto mayo was excellent.  I ordered the grilled eggplant sandwich.  It was great to see eggplant offered as other than a eggplant parm variety.  The sandwich was the best grilled eggplant I've ever had.  The combination of the tasty roasted red peppers, melty mozzarella and tomato pesto was divine.  I didn't want to stop eating.  These sandwiches were both served on delicious fresh ciabatta rolls.  Both sandwiches came with fries which were very above average.

For dessert we got the warm brown sundae with chocolate ice cream and creme anglaise and strawberry sauce. The sauces made the dish as it gave a nice contrast to the richness of the brown and ice cream.  The brownie also had a nice crunchie top.  Gotta love that.

The service was great and the food came out in a timely manner.  Can't wait to go back and try some of the other things on the menu like the fried chicken and meatloaf.

Silk City was a neat little place.  We came here to get dessert and dance after a lovely meal out on the town.  It has a super interesting set up between the Dinner, the Dance Party/Bar and the Beer Garden.

The neon lights from the dinner give the strange red glow to almost everything you look at.  This dinner had some amazing apple pie, but at 7 bucks for a slice, it could have been better.

Cocktails were tasty and fresh but once again at $7-7.50 a pop, its best to only have one or two and leave it at that.

The dance floor and bar had some strange paintings of 1/2 naked women painted on crushed black velvet... only slightly tacky.

The music was good and the crowd was fun.  We will be back for sure.

Have only been here twice which is strange considering how long I've lived in the city.  And I have to say, I'm impressed.

First time I came here was to drink and dance in the lounge area at around 9ish on Halloween night cause Dirty South Joe was playing.  Great, great set.  Awesome crowd.  Good mixed drinks.  Not a terribly long wait for the bathroom.  A little small but it didn't bother me enough to ruin my night.

Second time I came here was last night for Valentine's Day for dinner and drinks and unfortunately, all the seats were taken in the diner area so we once again went to the lounge area.  A lot more chill, low-key, and low-lit when it's dinner time (around 6:30-7) and we were the only people in there besides one other couple.

Bartender was also our waitress and she was really attentive and always asking if we wanted another round. Painkiller mixed drink was good, nice and strong. Good selection of beer and wines.  Had the fried calamari and cheese fries for appetizers- both tasty and filling.  So filling we could barely finish our burgers.  Our requested toppings (bacon, blue cheese, etc.) were plentiful and the burger was cooked right.  Nothing special, but still very good.

I'm still kicking myself for not ordering their classics, like the mac and cheese and the buttermilk fried chicken which sounded delicious.  In fact, it all sounded delicious and I'd definitely love to go back and try it all.  I'd also love to go back and sit in the outdoor area in warmer weather.

Took off a star cause it's still kinda pricey for being a diner and for the uncomfortable chairs we sat on.  I think more "lounge" style couches would be nice. Stupid complaint, I know.

Heart you Silk for so many reasons. I loved walking here and dining, drinking, brunching and dancing when I lived right around the corner. The food and drink is always great. Try one of their specials too just to change it up. They once had this corn mac n' cheese. What?! So good.

Best part. The outdoor beer garden. A great place to escape from Spring Garden Street and hangout with the umbrellas, bar and hipster scenery.

Way too old to go here for dancing, and from what I hear, it's gotten pretty lame at this point.

I went for brunch with my friend Ryan. We were seated within ten minutes in a crowded restaurant, and got a booth. The menu looked like standard brunch fare, for the most part--so we stuck with specials (also, standard). The usual: an omelet (frittata in this case), a Mexican special, a big, heavy breakfast, and the sweet stuff.

We split the Sunday Gravy (two sunny-side-up eggs over pork, sausage, and meatballs with red sauce on grits) and the Chicken Tamale (with avocado, two over-easy eggs on black beans).

The Sunday Grave was good. The grits was buttery, each of the meats were acceptable, and the eggs ere cooked well. Seems to be like the meatballs weren't made in house and the sauce wasn't either. I think my sauce and meatballs are better.

The tamale wasn't as good. It tasted fine, but uninspired to me.

Our server was great, though and so was the rest of the staff. I like the vibe here, but there are better, and more satisfying lunch spots within a stone's throw.

I've been going to Silk City since like 2003 and for some reason I have never written a review.  Back in college, we went here all the time to go dancing.  Before they re-did the diner part, the food was really simple diner food.  Nowadays the food is a little fancier, but you still get to sit in the old school metal diner car.  I only wish there was more seating.

I went here recently for dinner while in town and the food is still tasty.  I was under the weather during my Philly visit, so no dancing this time.  But there are many great memories here.

Silk city will either blow you away or leave you felling kind of meh depending on what you order.

I highly recommended the fried chicken...whoever makes this must have southern blood... perfectly fried with a light glaze of chili and honey butter served up with some mashed potatoes and greens with bacon. Some of the best anywhere! While on the subject of fried chicken...the fried chicken and waffles with boneless white meat atop golden brown waffles smothered in sausage gravy is a great way to start off any morning. A little Sriracha and syrup make all of the flavors come together in an artery clogging symphony of yum. And anytime is a good time for one of Silk City's famous Bloody Mary's.

The meh can be everything else including hit or miss drink specials. Stick with my recommendations and you will have a great experience!

I need to flash back to 2002 for my first Silk City experience....

A freshman in college out in the burbs, I jumped at the opportunity to go into the "big city" with a friend who had a car (score!).  I put on my finest 5-7-9 tube top, along with some facial body glitter and my mini butterfly hair clips and we were off!

Although a night of awkwardly dancing to R. Kelly's "Ignition" while confined to the "under 21" section of the club was fun, the highlight of that big night was heading to Silk City afterwards.

Flashforward to 2012, I exchanged the tube top for a cardigan, the facial glitter for muted earth tone makeup, and the mini butterfly hair clips for... well, those were just in the trash.  My husband had seen the Diners Drive-Ins and Dives episode there and had been dying to try it.  We were in the neighborhood so we said why not.

My pastrami reuben was delicious, but definitely not something I couldn't get elsewhere.  I really, really liked the fries, but I think if they added a homemade fry dipping sauce (like the one at Royal Tavern) it would push it over the edge.  The place was pretty packed when the kitchen opened at 5 pm- I was actually surprised how many people were there right when they opened.

Just a note- on Saturdays, the bar opens at 4 but the kitchen doesn't open until 5.  We got there at 4:15 and found this out.  They will let you hang out and drink before the ktichen opens, but just something to keep in mind before you visit.

Stopped by here to grab some dinner before heading to a show nearby. It wasn't hard to find with the neon lights guiding me in. First decision: right into the diner or left into the bar area? Left it was.

I first noticed they have fairly limited, yet good draft selections. The menu also has some interesting choices and I decided on the Asian Spiced Tuna Burger. It was a delicious change from the traditional beef and chicken selections I usually resort to.

I realize Silk City has a lot more to offer with other food options, DJs and their famous beer garden, so a repeat visit is probably in order come next spring or summer.
