I was hoping to grab In and Out on the way here, but their drive thru line was too long. Â This was my consolation prize, as I was lured in by the Morimoto name. Â The place is decent for airport food but probably does a disservice to the Morimoto name. Â The chicken skewers were okay but not spectacular. Â If you are hungry at LAX, this is more than passable.
Review Source:Don't be deceived by the famous Morimoto name and fancy kitchen setting. I really wanted to love it just because I hate airplane food. I didn't hate it but I didn't like it either. I got the shrimp that's basically breaded and deep fried with a strong sauce atop. The breading was a bit too thick. I wanted to taste the shrimp, but the flavor of the sauce was so strong that it overwhelmed. Tasted a lot like strong Tonkatsu sauce. Â If there is ever a next time, I'd ask for the sauce on the side. Better yet..Go the healthy route and get everything grilled. The plate of grilled shrimp I saw at the table beside me looked tasty!
Another reason for two stars? It's quite pricey. For 15$, you get two skewers of shrimp and two skewers of beef, rice, and veggies. Everything is a very small portion. The box that contained my meal was about 5 x 9 inches! If you want just a snack, then you can order skewers of meat alone. I believe the shrimp skewer was 3.25 each.
There aren't a lot of options in this area. It's either this place or Mc Donalds or a coffee shop. I guess...when you compare it that way, then skewers isn't such a bad option.
Plus side? Service was great! That's about it =(
