I've been to SB 5 times now and waited to review until I've had multiple trips. I did this as I hold Meatheads in very high regard and didn't want to judge too early.

There is absolutely room in B/N for both Smash Burger and Meatheads. If you like the thin, match-stick style fries (think Steak N' Shake), Smash Burger is your place. My preference for fries is the thicker, steak fry style. Meatheads gets the edge in my book, but that's not to say Smash Burger's fries aren't good. Just a preference.

Service is friendly, and the burgers are fantastic. On occasion, the delivery time from order to table is a bit sluggish, but you can anticipate when that'll happen (empty tables + long line = lots of new tickets in the kitchen).

If anything, they should expand their dining room to accommodate rush times. Lots of corporate folks interpret their half hour lunch literally and would avoid SB because of it.

Overall SB is very good. I think Meatheads wins by a nose, but that doesn't mean I'll choose one over the other. I enjoy both.

Had the Windy City Chicken sandwich this time & previously had a burger. The sandwiches are oversalted and the chicken is only 1/4" - 3/8" thick or so but still $6.99 without fries. However, the Smash Fries were good and all beers (including Goose Island and Schafly's are $2.99 or $9.99 a bucket (4?).
Burgers are similar to Steak n Shake but SNS is better at a lower price.

I really liked my first Smashburger last night. The toppings to choose from are excellent. The meat w is good, buns too.  Burger seemed messy, but messy is fine by me.  The fries? Just ok...I prefer Meatheads cajun fries.  All-in-all, a good experience.

I've visited here three times now and have tried burger, chicken, smash fries, sweet potato smash fries and the most decadent salted caramel shake I've ever had.

The shake was the best thing I've had here.  The burgers and chicken consistently are overseasoned (too salty).  The second best thing here are the smash fries.  The rosemary makes them so unique and delicious.

If I could tell them anything, I'd say to lay off the salt on the burgers/chicken.  I also hate the plastic cups for fountain/tea.  Give us a take home cup so we can refill and go!

The bucket of beer is a pretty decent deal.

Everyone is friendly here but there are better burgers/chicken sandwiches in town.

Just not that good, I've decided.  My (black bean) burger was a mess.  (I knowwww, it's called Smashburger....  I think it throws off the flavors of the toppings!)  My fries are not memorable.  It was super crowded.  I just don't find myself wanting to go back.

So..ok...before if we wanted to pay for pricey burger/fry fare we would drive to Peoria and hit up 5Guys..... But Smash burger, price aside has something for everyone (and yes you may get confused going in thru the out door etc., but no worries) :)

Kiddos had options and the chicken tenders didnt seem to be fried in old oil -- they were not greasy and yummy... The fries....the rosemary on them it really really nice (my pre-teen's picky taste buds loved them)!

The burgers?? they are gourmet and yummy, but my favorite things besides the gargantuan-ly thick shakes are the veggies....flash fried, crispy and delicious!!! True they are a wee bit pricey as well but I loved them! Its not pretentious, you needn't dress up and you can sit outside and nosh as if you were outside a little cafe in california...the restaurant sits back a bit from the road so its not too noisy to sit outside and have a conversation --- and the service really is top notch! Clean inside, clean outside -- OK so they don't have a combo..but its worth a little indulging every now and again! :)

I had the smash grille chicken sandwich avocado club.  It was exceptional.  I also had fries and one of their special teas.  It was expensive considering it was "fast food".  Everything is a la carte, about $6.99 for the sandwich, $2 for a drink, and $2 for fries...  Each of our checks were about $12 or so even though we all ordered something different.

Ain't gon' lie, Smashburger didn't do it for me.

In my opinion, Smashburger is just a slightly worse version of Meatheads. I found the burger to be just ok, and the list of toppings and specialty burgers really isn't anything too outstanding. Smashburger literally IS Meatheads, but with a different name and worse burgers.

I will say this, their sweet potato fries are killer. Olive oil, garlic, rosemary... oh man they were good.

All in all, I don't really have anything bad to say about Smashburger, but if I'm going to spend $12 on a double-cheeseburger monstrosity, fries, and a drink, I'm going to Meatheads because Smashburger just didn't fill that burger-shaped void in my life.

    Smashburger...
    - is not greasy like Meatheads.
    - has better quality ingredients than Steak n Shake
    - has great buns (it's ok, you can giggle at that)

    Order of events...
    - GO LEFT! When you walk in the door go left.
    - Pick up a menu from the wall and study it while you stand in line. If no line, walk super slow reading with your head down... you know as if you were playing with your smartphone.
    - Order at the counter, they give you a number stand and bring it to your table.

Tips to make this more affordable for 2... Total $17.72
    - Each order one burger
    - Split an order of fries
    - Share a drink since you get free refills!

    We ordered...
    - Husband really enjoyed the Windy City burger on a pretzel roll. These kinds of toppings run the risk of being an inedible mess but Smashburger served it right so kudos to the attention to detail.
    - I tried the Avocado Club and the bacon was flavorful and crisp without being burned! Avocado was fresh and the slices were just the right size to not fall out of the burger. Multigrain bun was a great compliment.
    - SmashSweetPotato fries (rosemary, garlic and olive oil). Definitely doing that again.

Shout out to the worker who offered to refill the drink for us! I think he might have been bored (too many people working for the size of the crowd) but we still appreciated the service nonetheless.

While I prefer a thickburger, if I will go back here the next time I'm craving a burger and fries in town.

Damn good.  We split burgers.  Got the windy city burger with smash fries.   Burger came on a pretzel bun and had haystack onions, cheese and other stuff.  Pretzel bun and onions make the burger!   Smash fries are tossed with olive oil, rosemary and garlic.  They are excellent.   Can really taste the olive oil and rosemary!   Other meal bbq, bacon and cheddar burger with fried pickles with ranch.  Finished off sharing a chocolate malt shake, ya were hogs but was yummy!  All was awesome.  Service was awesome.   Super clean.

I went to Smash burger for the first time on 9/4/2012 so things were just about brand new. The line was out the door but moved very quick. I would also second the other comment about looking up a menu ahead of time or reaching in the door and grabbing a paper menu to read ahead of your turn at the counter. The staff was very neat and courteous. I ordered the windy city smash and fries with a total bill of $8.76 with tax. I was taken back that there were no combos or any other way to soften the blow of an almost $9 burger and fries with no drink. The description of the burger is as follows from the website: "Layers of melted cheddar cheese, haystack onions, lettuce, tomato and Gulden's® spicy mustard on a pretzel bun." The meat on the burger was quite tasty and the haystack onions along with the cheddar dominated the flavor. The pretzel bun was great and was a very fresh. I was not impressed at the portion of the burger on the bun as it was not close to covering the bun. There was more topping then burger on mine. The restaurant was just about spotless as I would have expected with a new restaurant. There were managers wiping tables and keeping things tidy instead of visiting with customers and managing the various workers on the floor. The music was VERY loud and definitely not fitting the majority of the crowd that was there but maybe the attendance will change and the shiny newness wears off. Personally I thought the experienced was overpriced for what was delivered. I was however impressed by the speed of the wait, delivery of the food, and the cleanliness of the facility.

Today was my first visit.  You can tell who has never been there before because they go in and out of the wrong doors. It wasn't just me. The line seemed long from a distance but it was mostly people who were studying the menu board and letting others ahead of them. You may want to read the menu online before you get there because the print is really small and you might not be able to read the descriptions until you're right up at the counter. I ordered the Spicy Baja Black Bean Burger with Pepper jack cheese, guacamole, lettuce, tomato, onion, spicy chipotle mayo and fresh jalapeños on a spicy chipotle bun minus the jalapeños. I didn't see an option for a combo so I ordered sweet potato fries a la carte plus an Oreo shake. $12 total for 1 person. The shake was brought to the table first. They had a little left over in the shake making cup so they brought that out too with a tall spoon! I thought that was a really nice touch.  The burger and fries arrived shortly thereafter. It was a very tasty black bean burger that was smashed flat so that it was about 30% bigger than the bun. The sweet potato fries were enough for 2 reasonable people. The manager walked around and made sure everyone was satisfied. There were employees constantly cleaning the whole time. I really appreciated how clean everything was so that a customer coming in mid day would have the same experience as a customer coming in when they open. I hope they keep it up. I also like that they have a serious vegetarian option. I'll definitely return.
