Dissatisfied! Avoid this place at all costs; food was beyond stale. $4 Breakfast sounds tempting but it will cost you more since its likely you'll end up going somewhere else afterwards. Terribly rude service and just as we tried to find our way out of there, a couple next to us just got up and left their plates so much in a hurry they forgot their camera. One star is beyond over-rated.
Review Source:We came to this place because since there was 3.99 special for breakfast, we figured we'd save some money. Our server (the asian lady) was a bit rude and abrupt. Now to justify her behavior i would have to say it was probably because the other server was so slow. Â Basically our server was in charge of all the tables on the outside, plus us the only ones on the inside. So she was probably in a bad mood because of that. Â So i give her the one star for effort.
Our breakfast was awful. The toast was soggy, the eggs were rubbery, who eats eggs that way? The pancakes were undercooked. The place was dirty. But the worst part of all was the coffee. It was disgusting. It seemed like dirty water. Â The only thing that was cooked was the bacon, but then again how can anyone not cook bacon. We left so disappointed we went to Starbucks in the Hawaiian Village to eat breakfast.
Do yourself a favor and save your money and get a good breakfast somewhere else. Ihop or even Starbucks was better than this place.
Seeing their $3.99 breakfast special board out front, I decided to stop and give it a try. Each of the 2 servers had about 8 tables they were taking care of, I'm not sure if this is a lot but it took about 5 minutes to get a menu, and another 5 to have my order taken. I had the special: scrambled eggs, bacon, 2 small pancakes, and toast. The food quality was mediocre at best. It was pretty obvious the eggs, toast, and pancakes had been cooked way ahead of time and were being kept warm on a steam table. The eggs and pancakes were dry and rubbery. And the toast was soggy. The bacon was perfect though. I sat for 15 minutes with my napkin on my plate waiting for a check. There were a lot of customers who were sitting waiting for service, looking around trying to get the attention of someone. One person at the table next to me actually got up, grabbed a coffee pot, and refilled her own table's coffees :-) Â yeah, it was cheap but I wouldn't go back.
Review Source:Snappers is a sports bar that was conveniently located just a step or two away from our condo. The owner, Colleen, is a nice lady and gave us the rundown on her bar and tips on where to eat in the area. The bar is a work in progress, with part of it renovated so far, and is family owned (husband, wife, and daughter). $2.50 budweisers all day, every day, and they sell the most buds of any bar in the country, according to the owner. If you like bud, or don't care about what beer you put down the hatch, this is the place for you. The menu options are pretty good considering it's a bar, but the food, itself, is just ok, nothing particularly fantastic, but also better than your typical fried sports bar foods. The food prices are decent, and if you go during specials/happy hour, you get some good deals for food. 3 stars instead of 4 because other than the budweiser, drinks are very expensive and measured pours.
Review Source:My boyfriend & I saw Snappers' menu not too long ago and thought this looked like a pretty decent place to have dinner. We went on a Tuesday night.. it was pretty much empty. Took 15 minutes just to get drinks. Then another 30 minutes to get our appetizer, fried pickles.. which were amazing but halfway cold by the time we got them. Shortly after, our food came out. I ordered a hamburger with the salsa and chips. I ended up with a cheeseburger with fries which I specifically told our waitress I did not want. I didn't want to wait another hour for another burger so I just scraped the cheese off. Kyle got some kind of turkey sandwich which was good, but the chips and salsa that came with were just "ehh." Overall, this place has good food and an awesome selection, a little bit of everything. Seems like it would be a fun place on the weekends. Our waitress was terrible. It might be just a little peeve of mine but there was not a single refill I didn't have to ask for.. I thought she might notice both of our waters were empty when she came back to ask if we wanted more cocktails but nope. Â She just kind of walked around in circles up towards the bar instead of actually bringing us our check or taking the empty plates or even asking if everything was okay... I would probably come back. I'd give this place like 4 stars if the service had been better.
Review Source:Came on a Friday night. Hubby and I both ordered the special...all you can eat fish and chips. It came with all u can eat salad bar and clam chowder. $12.95
When our food finally came hubby got a nice portion of the battered cod and fries. I ordered the other choice which was broiled cod. I got literally 3 bite size pieces of cod on a huge bed of fries. I know it's all u can eat, but why be so chincey to begin with? Asked our waitress for more and she brought me out ONE bite size piece on the plate. Really??
I give this place 3.5 stars if I could... Just above average. A plus was the live music!
A side note...We came in a few days later for happy hour. 1/2 price apps and specials on some of the drinks. I would give them 4 stars for the happy hour alone!
I showed up a little late for the UFC fight and Buffalo Wild Wings had no seating. Â I had no choice but to go to Snappers downstairs...
I based this review on a night where they showed the UFC fight so it was fairly busy. Â I am not quite sure how anyone would give this place more than 2 stars. Â This place is lousy! Â The service was horrible b/c they were grossly understaffed for the number of customers. Â People were having to get up and get their own condiments and napkins, many of the customers looked visibly agitated b/c they were either neglected by the waitresses or their food and drinks were taking forever to arrive.
The food was subpar at best. Â They need to learn how to fry their food and plate it up so that the food isn't soaking in a puddle of grease. Â Our fried pickles and french fries were literally soaking in about 1/8" oil and it was NasT!!! Â The owner or manager came out to our table and I mentioned that the food was super greasy. Â His response? Â "Well, greasy fried foods tend to do that." Â BULLS**T. Â Does he honestly think that I would believe that nonsense? Â How about letting the food drain in the basket and shaking out the excess oil instead of pulling it out and tossing it straight onto the plate? Â Genius.
The TVs were crummy, the ventilation is poor b/c you can see the smoke in the air, and the decor is non-existent. Â My suggestion is to skip this place all together and go to Buffalo Wild Wings located above Snappers. Â Make sure you show up around 4-4;15pm for UFC fights so you can get a table at BWW.
When we visited, we were surprised to find that we had to find our own seat in this dark place. Â Still, we managed to find a table and waited for a few minutes before I decided to get up and get some menus. Â After a few more minutes, the waitress noticed us and came by to take our orders.
The food itself was average overall. Â The shredded meat was good but I though the sliced fish appetizer lacked taste. Â The white rice portion of my order seemed iffy.
Not bad. Thursday night is burger madness. Burger and domestic beer or soda. $5.95. Burger tasted good, seasoned well and was not overcooked. Service was good for me. I gave the waitress crap about the shifty service they always give. I guess she took it to heart cause she came by like every 5-10 minutes. Dive bar. Hit or miss. Today it hit.
Review Source:My family came here on the whim. Was walking down the street and we were hungry, and saw their lunch special sign, and decided to try it. We were seated out in front in the patio, and enjoyed the fresh air (as opposed to the smell of beer). Their lunch specials included a toasted sandwich and vegetable-beef soup for $4.99. We ordered three roast turkey and swiss sandwiches and one ham and cheese. The soups were all the same - soup of the day, I guess. Not sure if that's the special every day...wouldn't know since we've never been there before nor have we been back since. But it was a sweet deal, and we were quite full and satisfied. The service was on the slower side of things, but understandably since there was only one waitress taking care of everyone.
Review Source:This bar is OK... Â Buffalo Wild Wings was full with no available tables so I ended up here as it was directly beneath BWW. Â They have a mix of some large flat panels, med size flat panels, and small CRT TVs. Â Their projection TV needs a new lamp (?) as the image is very faint. Â With the projection TV working sooo poorly, only a small percentage of tables are within a comfortable view of a good TV. Â There are so many other bars better equipped for watching sports...
We had a cute server who was rough around the edges. Â We saw her bark rudely at other tables but i didn't care--she was cool with us and hella cute! Â LoL... Â Service did get really slow when the bar got busy.
The food here is good for a dive bar. Â We ordered nachos with beef and it came fully loaded with generous helpings of beef! Â I give their nachos 4 stars. Â
Their beer prices were on the higher side, but I guess this is to be expected in Waikiki.
Ummmm, in conclusion, I doubt I would select this bar as a first option--there are better options for sports watching....
HORRIBLE! DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE!
my boyfriend, his father, and i walked in here to grab a drink and catch the final quarter of the seahawks vs redskins game. There was only about 4min left in the game so we really only planned to have one drink and head out.
The bar tender looked VERY young, she looked no older than 17-19yrs. My boyfriend's father made a joke when she was asking us for our IDs he asked to see her ID and she looked at him with this scared look... Not quite sure what to say about that but didnt leave me convinced she was of age.
We were in the bar maybe 20min, the whole time never ordering another drink. Only two of us had drinks so the bill was $8, i had put $10 on the bar in front of me from the minute the girl brought us the beers.
After we finished our drinks we walked out, stood in front of the bar for a about 5 minutes talking to one of the waitresses. This is when we find out the bar tender is the owners daughter.
We start walking back towards home and get about two blocks down and suddenly we hear someone yelling at us. We turn around and its the young bar tender and she's screaming
bartender: YOU CANT JUST WALK OUT AND NOT FUCKING PAY YOUR BILL WHAT THE FUCKS WRONG WITH YOU, etc etc etc
us: what are you talking about the money has been on the bar since you brought us our drinks!
we all head back to the bar (the bartender runs back) and when we get there she is handing me my change from the money I left on the table.
Bar tender: "YOU CANT JUST WALK OFF AND NOT WAIT FOR YOUR BILL! YOU DIDNT EVEN KNOW HOW MUCH THE DRINKS COST!"
I dont understand this comment since I left enough for the drinks and a tip...
I knew exactly how much the drinks cost since there was a giant obvious sign with the drink prices on them RIGHT WHERE WE WERE SITTING
At this point she is just arguing because she doesn't want to admit she made an honest mistake and move on. I have never seen someone who is suppose to be providing you with service act so irrationally. THIS IS WHY TEENS ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO BE WORKING IN BARS
I would give this place ZERO stars if I could.
I couldn't tell you what their food would have been like, because - WE NEVER GOT SERVICE.
We were on our way to Buffalo Wild Wings (next door) when my friend said, hey, how about we try this place here that we walk by all the time - they have specials every day, looks like a cozy little place to drink & eat - so we walk in. Â Mind you, it was only about 6 PM and the place was empty. Â
We walk in, and a girl says "have a seat, any place you like" - so we look around, and sit at a booth near the entrance. Â
Then we wait........and wait.....and wait. Â We must have sat there for 15 minutes.
The girl that told us to "sit anywhere" must have walked past us 4 or 5 times, picking up napkins off the floor, cleaning a table outside - and not ONE word to us. Â She OBVIOUSLY knows we're sitting there, because she was the one that told us to seat ourselves! Â No menu, nothing. Â Only a handful of people at the bar, watching college football or NFL or whatever was on TV. Â
We saw a guy that came out of the billiards area, stood around for a few minutes trying to find after a waitress because h wanted another bottle of beer. Â He seemed really irritated.
We're usually patient people. Â We know how hard MOST of the waiters and waitresses work to earn their money. Â But this was horrible. Â There were other waitresses going in and out of the kitchen area. Â NONE of them took the time to notice us sitting there tweedling our thumbs. Â
After sitting there for over 15 minutes, we decided to up and leave. Â Seemed like no one really noticed us leaving either. Â So what I'm thinking is, customers = invisible in this place.
I'm not sure if this place "used to" be a nice place to drink/eat but WOW, that was the first and last time we will be setting foot  into this dive.
We were staying next door at the Hilton and looking for somewhere reasonable to eat. Â
My wife's crab was good. Â Kids food was okay. Â I went for the Snow Crab leg special. Arrived luke warm and seemed like they had been over boiled and really had no flavor.
Fact that it took 15 minutes to get a beer and 1 hour to get food was bad. Â Others seated after us got their food 30 minutes earlier.
The waitress was apologetic, but the kitchen was definitely having a difficult night.
I think we hit the waitress transition hour as well which may be why it took 15 minutes to get a beer.
This place SUCKS...period.
Went to breakfast, thinking since Snappers was big on the advertising of their food, that it might be good. I was wrong.
Service: Non existent. In order to rate it, it would have to exist. Waited a good 15 min before I was even acknowledged, then waited another 15 min for a menu, after asking for coffee. Food took 30 more min, and the coffee came after I had completed my two eggs, hash-browns, toast and sausage.
Food: Poor, overdone eggs, over salted potatoes, coffee tasted like used motor oil.
Ambiance: its a dive bar on Waikiki, it looks like like a dive bar. So they got something right to earn that one star.
Overall, this place is a waste of time. You would be better off going outside, burning your money, and eating it. It would be faster, better tasting and cost about the same.
Breakfast bargain right across from the Ilikai Hotel
Two over easy, potatoes and toast for 3.99 ... add tea or coffee for $2.50 and it's still a bargain. Â The potatoes were tasty, the service prompt. Â The fruit plate was similarly priced, and although not great was certainly a good deal.
Not the cleanest place in the world, but a reasonable atmosphere (a dive, but fun), and with prices like that, it's hard to go wrong.
Found this place while looking for someplace that opened early enough for NFL football. Â Wanted the BEARS game.
The downside was that this was a Packers bar. Â Had to ask the bartender where the Bears game was. Â She set us up on the only unclaimed bigscreen, since we were there first.
Another couple was looking for the Bears & joined us. Â Our table however caused us to have the bartender as our server. Â Once the games started, the service went downhill since she was wrapped up at the bar.
As for the drinks & food: Â Breakfast sandwich was actually two sandwiches, quite tasty. Â The drinks were good too, serving cocktails by 7am. Â :-)
As the Bears did well, the four of us got excited & loud & were told (lightheartedly) by the bartender to quiet down. Â LOL
It was a good time, even though we couldn't hear the game, since the Packers game dominated the overhead speakers, although no one was watching the big screen for the packers game.
Overall, I would go back for future Bears games. Â Good drinks & good food, mediocre service.
Can't believe we found this place on our last day. We were happy to find an affordable place with good, heavy food. Breakfast special was $3.99 and $4.99 for lunch special.
Breakfast and lunch times, the place was empty, but then again we went during the day. The baked potato soup was quite a treat. Didn't know what to expect but it was certainly good. Was too full to have the sandwich that went along with the special. They do offer big plates and the price was good so I can't complain.
The warm beer we were served should have been our warning to leave. The place felt sticky and dirty. We ordered off the appetizer menu, and the food was typical deep fried bar food. The waitress never cleared the plates when we were done. The next day, the three of us that went were all sick. Stay away, this place is a dump that will give you food poisoning.
Review Source:Came here because my roommate and I were starving to death and the wait at BWW was almost an hour. We debated going to IHOP, but since we both wanted greasy food and a drink, Snappers won.
It seemed like an ultimate dive bar, most of the people seemed to know each other. There were a lot of screens playing sports, and some odd kid movie, and a pool table. There was some live music, pretty good but not my style.
You seat yourself- so we picked a booth. The menu had all the good greasy fair and wasn't too pricy. We split an app of chicken nachos. I got the BLT with avocado and the roommie got a grilled cheese.
And we both got lava flows--- my first sip, i thought it was mostly ice and syrup, but her first sip she said was strong... just goes to show you our differences.
The nachos were pretty big and full of toppings! I don't think there were enough chips, which is the opposite of most places where the toppings run out and you're left with some plain chips.
My sandwich was good- pretty big, the fries were good too.
My roommie liked the grilled cheese, but it wasn't grilled enough.
In short, simple bar foods that were good and not too pricy.
Snapper's is not exactly fine drinking or dining. Â But, if you're up early enough and looking for a comfortably divey-bar to watch the games, this Green Bay bar is certainly not a bad choice.
It's located next to/below Buffalo Wild Wings. Â While I don't think they actually serve wings at Snappers, they do usually have deep fried cheese curds and a wide variety of other foods on their Breakfast and Lunch/Dinner menus.
Also, if you're a Green Bay fan.... welcome home! You're really going to LOVE this place!
If you're an anything else fan, look out. Â This is very much a Green Bay bar and there's A LOT of Green Bay specific love in the air.
Like many of the other reviews I got sucked into this place because Buffalo Wild Wings was full on a fight night. Â I sat down in an uncomfortable bar seat and started watching the fight on a staticy screen for half an hour. Â Despite the bar being only 1/2 full with plenty of wait staff, no one came by to acknowledge me or take my order. Â It was almost like I was invisible... amazing! Â I was really thirsty/hungry and figured that my new invisibility power only worked inside of Snappers, so I left after 1/2 an hour of being invisible. Â
Judging from the other reviews I made the right call to leave and not bother trying their cough *nasty* food and cough *warm* beers. Â Bars are a commodity in Waikiki and hopefully this one comes under new management soon or better yet Buffalo Wild Wings can extend to two floors :) Â Avoid this place until then.
I would give this place a no Star. Yelp need to have 0 stars! Came into this dive bar and was sitting by where all the food comes out for 15mins before someone asked if I wanted to order. Really?! Wtf!!! Â The place wasn't even busy. When they asked if I had want anything I was like no I'm good! Why should I spend my money here?
Review Source:This is more or less a neighborhood dive bar with cheap food and drinks especially during HH. The place has many tv's around which is great to watch any sporting event which can attract many of the locals, but not many tourists would come here based on the old looking condition which is not very appealing. The place also seems kind of dirty and the table we sat at was not very clean.
They do have dinner specials posted each night and the mai tai's we had were only $3 during HH with appetizers half off included which made this place a great deal.
The service was very bad the first time we came here as we waited a good 10 to 15 minutes before our bartender came over to get our order and we had to actually go up to the bar to get her attention. The second time we came it was much better in terms of service since we wanted to get another mai tai before our vacation came to an end.
Snappers really has graduated from dive bar to neighborhood bar. Â I have seen the transformation over the years and under new ownership this little gem has thrived. Â Great place with something for everyone. Â Pool, darts, outdoor space and very decent bar food (I always get fish tacos). Â This is my go to place for every occasion!
Review Source:Thursday's-Burger and beer for $5.95, YES PLEASE!
I love going to Snapper's on Thursday's for this special. I mean really how can you beat that price? Have you been to Snapper's? If so, you know it is a "whole in the wall" type of place.
How many times had I passed this place on the way to D&B without giving it a second look? A million! I am really glad that my friend, who lives nearby, suggested this place.
We normally sit out on the lanai because it is cooler out there, but I have to say that every time I think to myself do I really want to inhale cigarette smoke while I eat dinner?! I digress...
I love that they have live music. It really adds to the feel of a $5.95 bar and grill. The service is always on point. The waitresses are friendly and super quick. I really appreciate that they keep the drinks flowing!
The burger you get with the special is surprisingly tasty. I remember my first time at Snapper's, I took the first bite and remarked that it tasted like a real patty. Not that frozen premade crap that you get at other places. The burger is also seasoned well. I know it's not a gourmet burger but it is great for the price. The burger is served with tortilla chips and salsa. Nice change from the normal burger and fry combo!
Other daily specials:
Monday-Prime Rib 17.95
Tuesday-Tacos and Tequila $2-10.00 (depending on what you order)
Wednesday-Crabby Wednesday $6.95-17.95
Friday-Wisconsin Fish Fry $12.95
Saturday-Pasta Night $12.95
When we come here we normally park in the back of the building (same place you park when you go to D&B) or over by the Charthouse.
Overall this is a quick and cheap place to get a bite. Give this place a try next time you're in Waikiki!
This is located by Buffalo Wild Wings across from the Hilton Hawaiian Village. If you come here, expect to pay less than you would in the Village but you will wait awhile...patient pants engaged!
I had the grilled salmon and meat fried rice. The portion of salmon was twice what I expected for the price and the quality was just OK. The meat fried rice was done well, not too oily and tasted fairly fresh.
I ordered to-go and waited approximately 30 minutes for my food, not a big deal but there was only two other tables being served at the time.
Stopped here for lunch while I was waiting on my car to get fixed. Â It was a Monday and they were not busy, so I got served immediately. Â Waitress was friendly, fish tacos were excellent, they had the Olympics on which was cool. Â Overall, nothing special, but a good lunch. Â
Other reviews apparently had bad food, slow service, and didn't like the atmosphere. Â I did not have that experience. Â Obviously there are better places to eat in Waikiki, and better sports bars, but I really did enjoy the fish tacos. Â I'd consider coming back for lunch, but based on other views probably wouldn't bar hop here, watch a game, etc.
Decided to watch the ufc fight at Buffalo wild wings,  but unfortunately all their seats were reserved. So we ended up trying this place since we already parked our cars in the structure. At first glance the bar doesn't look too appealing. There were dust everywhere and this place just looked outdated. We found some seats and sat down. Took the waitress forever to take our orders. We waited almost an hour to get our food. The food wasn't even that great. I believe it was all frozen and they just deep fried everything. Waitress didn't even come by to check up on us. We  had to call her 3 or 4 times for refills on our drinks. When we asked for our checks it took her another 20 mins to get it. Ugh....
To some it up, service sucked, food sucked, and atmosphere sucked .Spend your money elsewhere. Only gave one star because I don't think you can give no stars.
This is a tough review for me to write for some reason... On one hand, I want to give it the "nothing special" treatment. i.e., It's not great, but it's not bad either. On the other hand, I found myself sitting there the whole time wishing I was someplace else (and had Buffalo Wild Wings not been charging $20 cover because of the fight today I probably would have headed north). But I was meeting friends, and they were interested in the NBA games versus the Pacman fight, so they opted for Snapper's and I tagged along.
Inside is divey, and I'm actually okay with that. Happy hour had just started which meant $3 domestic drafts and half-price appetizers. I'm okay with that too. I had their BBQ chicken wings and the spinach-artichoke dip. I think the food was the tough spot for me. The wings were overcooked and broke off the bone like pieces of jerky. And I don't usually use the word flavorless in my reviews, but the spinach-artichoke dip really wasn't anything special. I certainly wouldn't have been willing to pay full price for either! Add in that the servers seemed a tad harried given what they probably felt was a sudden influx of NBA watchers, and the whole thing just came off slightly south of "ho hum" (from my point of view, the restaurant had plenty of empty tables, so it was far from full--but maybe Saturday's crowd WAS considered full for this place).
I don't know. I don't hate the place, but I thought I'd get into the vibe and divey character more than I was able to. It might be fine if you just want to belly up to a dive bar and have a beer or two. But for my money, I'd rather hit up Buffalo Wild Wings, or a place that actually owns its dive status and offers up that slice of greasy and unpretentious charm that only a proper dive bar can (see Honolulu Tavern).
Snappers has been one of my regular spot for a few years now. Â After looking here on Yelp at some of the reviews it seems like a lot of people pop in here once and decide never to come back. Â Obviously, I feel different about the place but, I would say it is not for everyone.
Alright to set the stage if you've never been there it is in a basement below Buffalo Wild Wings.  If the idea of a bar in a basement turns you off it is still very open.  There is a patio area with about eight tables out there.  Smoking is permitted on the patio area.  Inside there a a few booths, approx. 10 high top table and of coarse the bar which has 15-20 seats.  There are also a few dart boards and two pool tables.  There is also a small tiki bar outside on the patio area that has mostly beer.  Some refer to it as a dive bar but, I would say it is more akin to a small neighborhood bar.
They have different special each night on food a drinks.  For example, Taco Tuesday where they have tacos for $2 each or a 2 Taco or Enchilada plate for $5 and Tequila specials.  I have never had any issues with the food here and I would say it is a great deal for the price.  They also have one of the cheapest breakfasts I have ever seen in Waikiki.  I will admit that on some night when they are busy service seems to run slow but, that is to be expected.  One last cool thing that they do is hold large seasonal events, examples being Oktoberfest and  other cool events like the Jello wrestling they had a few weeks ago.
On a closing note, I would say if you haven't been there in awhile or only gave it one shot you give it another try.
I've been here three times. Two for food and one for only drinks. And I'd say that I prefer to go somewhere else where at least the service is better.
The last time we went the waitress took forever to come to our table (we were sitting outside), once she did and we asked what they had on tap she answered "Oh, we have a million beers on tap, I'll get you the menu". I ordered a longboard because I figured that they at least would have that.
When we got the menu we found that there were no "million beers on tap" but a small selection. Was she honestly too lazy to just mention some of them? We ordered some food with the beer.
The food was okay, wasn't expecting much so it worked for the moment. But the beer .. yuck. It was flat ! I hate flat beer!! My friend had ordered budweiser and happily drank it without complaining.
If I would go here again it would be for only drinks, and I'm sticking with budweiser.
Most of what you've read in other reviews is true. This would fit the description of "dive bar." However, it would also fall under "cheap eats" as breakfast for 4 here was nearly half that of the Plantation Cafe at my hotel.
The waitress was plesant, but not bursting with personality. She was also fairly slow for a place that wasn't all that busy.
Given all that the food was decent and was walkable from my hotel. Though the incredibly dirty NFL mat laying next to our table wasn't too appetizing.
My friends and I had plans to go to Buffalo Wings which is right upstairs from Snappers (or whatever it's called today). BW had no tables available and since we had already found parking in the Discovery Bay parking lot, we decided to make the best of it and head on downstairs to Snappers.
BIG MISTAKE. We all agreed it was a total dive bar but we had come out to just relax and have fun and proceeded to do that. Until the food arrived. My stomach hurts right now just talking about it. We ordered the Buffalo Chicken Wings (hot), Ahi Poke, and Spinach Artichoke Dip with chips. I figured these would be no-brainers for good pupus. I was soooo wrong. *retch*
How is it possible to make chicken wings taste like armpits?? We almost used the poke cubes to wipe down our dirty table, the fish was that spongy. Definitely low quality fish that was frozen and recently defrosted. So yucky. The spinach artichoke dip was the best of the three items ordered but my friend commented that it was the worst dip she'd ever eaten anywhere. (It really was the worst spinach artichoke dip..imagine those packages of frozen spinach you buy at the grocery store, throw in some artichoke hearts and some cheesy creamy sauce. Voila!)
In order to say something good about Snappers: I liked the outdoor seating. Some of our group smokes so this was a plus. Draft beer was good. I had mixed drinks which were watery or watered down compared to all the other bars/clubs I've had the identically ordered drink at. But..whatever.
As if this all wasn't bad enough..we had decided to check out another bar down the street and asked for our tab. Everyone threw in cash and it was not enough to cover the tab so I put the cash into the folder along with my credit card to cover the balance. After a long wait (strange because there wasn't a long line to cash out at their register), our waitress returned the folder with my credit card and receipt. She had charged my cc for the full tab amount. And the cash was mysteriously gone. No, the cash wasn't credited towards the tab. It was just gone. When I asked about this, the waitress pulls the cash OUT OF HER POCKET and with shaking hands says that my money was right there. WTF?!
In a nutshell: Snappers is dirty. The food that we ordered was truly awful in taste and texture. The bathroom was probably built by one of the waitresses in about 20 minutes with scrap wood and hinges. The waitress is a total thief who did not get to keep my cash afterall. Too bad for her because I would have tipped her decently just to be nice, even after the crap food.
I don't know what it's actually called now. Â Snappers, margaritas, whatever generic name you can give it. Â The name and theme have changed quite often for this place the past few years. Nevertheless, the name doesn't stop me from coming by on rare occasions.
I use this place as my plan-M to watch football games. Â As I live close by to this place, it really should be closer to plan-F. Â However, they haven't given me much reason to come more often.
To watch sports, this place is alright. Â They have a few plasma/lcd screens there, but not sure if they are 1080p. Â They also have a large projection screen, but the quality of the monitor is shoddy.
On game days the place has a decent crowd. Â They are now competing with the Wild Wings place up above. Â They take most of the mainland visitors, so most people that come in are people that came too late for the wings upstairs or regulars. Â They have plenty of seating, a decent selection of beers on tap, and middling mexican food. Â The service gets very slow and it takes a long time for them to warm up the stoves early in the morning. Â I had to wait a very long time to even get food because it was soo early for them.
I have found that their kalua pork nachos are pretty good. Â Yet, the taste and quality of the nachos has been declining. Â The fish tacos (when they have) lack flavor even when you drench the fish in lime. Â
They do, however, have a nice pool table area. Â Beer, pool, and football are pretty much what I require. Â Since it's a bar it will get a pass for the food. Â It's a nice place to come for gameday and maybe a drink late night. Â But if you're looking for good mexican...well, I can't say I've found good Mexican food on the island yet. Â You'll be searching for a while for that.
