Have always loved Sonny's...been going for a million years...nice to see that they are back on track. When my "foodie" Son visits from Boston it is a must for him to travel down memory lane with a rib in one hand and a sliced meat sandwich in the other. It seems as though our Winkler Rd. location stumbled a few years ago and the food got very "iffy" but the Sweet and Smokey Ribs we devoured the other night were right on track! The coleslaw was crunchy, the fries were hot and fresh and the ribs were meaty, juicy and had great flavor...even my cornbread was moist and warm! When Sonny's is good there isn't anyone better!
Review Source:Maybe it's a childhood memories and that I live so far away from any Sonny's, but it's my first stop when I fly into Lee County and my last meal when I fly out. It's the best BBQ chicken anywhere. I couldn't even tell you what the other meats taste like at a sonny's, I can't get past the great smoky taste of the pull off the bone chicken. Oh and of course the BBQ bean too. I have had better BBQ in general, but nothing beats the flavor and coincidence of Sonny's chicken.
Review Source:After months of trying what Fort Myers has to offer I've found some very worthy contenders. Â Sonny's is one of these contenders. Â Sure, the place feels like you're eating in a double wide trailer. Â Sure, the fries are precut and frozen. Â But their BBQ... good lord their BBQ can make you look past their flaws.
For $6.99 you can get a pulled pork (or chicken) sandwich on toasted garlic bread, a side, and a drink. Â The fries weren't very good. Â Some of them were still cold in the middle. Â But, again, the BBQ... it doesn't make sense how good the BBQ is. Â Someone could tell me it is made out of children and I'd still eat it.
The BBQ is good enough to eat on its own. Â The meat is tender and juicy. Â The smoke is pronounced and complements the meat instead of overpowering it. Â It simply doesn't need sauce. Â But if you would like sauce there are four choices on the table. Â Mild - pass. Â Sweet - very good. Â Hot - tastes like it has a lot of pepper in it. Â Finally, sweet and spicy - a combination of the sweet and hot. Â When I did use sauce I went with sweet and mostly used it as a condiment for my onion rings.
I see myself eating a ton of BBQ at Sonny's and I plan to make my way through the menu. Â Tell my cardiologist I'm sorry.
What I wouldn't give for a sliced pork sandwich on garlic bread with cole slaw and smokin' hot barbeque sauce accompanied by french fries, cornbread, fried okra and an unsweet tea! My idea of the perfect meal. And all for less than $10. Good thing I don't live near a Sonny's because I would be 200 pounds.
My first stop when I get to Florida or NC or anywhere within shouting distance is Sonny's. Consistently good food and fast and friendly service. Â Always trying to get my sister to bring me Sonny's when she visits me in PA. Â Lots of other choices for everyone---ribs, chicken, oh and I almost forgot to mention the salad bar---its good, but why get salad when you can get those onion rings?
Please open a franchise in PA! Â or at least Maryland!
Good down-home BBQ. Everything was really good. Better than expected. Â Had a great deal, $10.99 for 1/2 slab baby-back ribs plus one other meat with two sides and cornbread. I had fantastic coleslaw and good corn on the cob. The ribs were tender and the pulled pulled pork tasty. There were 4 sauces to choose from, from mild to spicy. Â I loved the spicy! Â I would go back again and would recommend.
