Had lunch here recently while in Miami Beach for vacation and it was a very good experience.
When the bring the bread, they also bring some freshly marinated tomatoes so you can make your own little bruschettas while you wait for your food. Â We got the mozzarella caprese as our appetizer which was nice and fresh. Â For our meals, my wife had a risotto and I have the gnocchi. Â I could tell the gnocchi was store bought, but it was still pretty good as the sauce was fresh and tasty. Â Desserts were also above average. Â I has the ricotta cheesecake and my wife had some apple tart that she thought was amazing.
The service was also very good. Â The owner was very nice and came over to talk to us for a little bit.
Ate here last saturday with my husband because another restaurant where we wanted to dine was closed.
It was one of the worst dining experiences in Miami. We should have known better.
It started with the bread which was the worst bread I've ever had in an italian restaurant.
Some thinly pre sliced multigrain bread probably from your grocery store across the street and a white bread (really the cheap one ) which was probably put out on some other table before, because it was stale and dry.
We were given a bruschetta which we didn't even touch. It looked stale and unpleasant.
We ordered a beef carpaccio to share and what we got was with old, wilt arugula leafs (I really should have taken a picture of this one). Like I said already too many bad signs of a not so good restaurant.
The owner tries to keep nice by opening the door and shake hands when saying good night. I don't think that makes a good restaurant and covers for the bad food.
I had the veal marsala and my husband a sirloin steak with a red tomato sauce with capers.
My veal was super thin and soo sweet with no taste, I could't eat it. The sirloin steak
covered by this red pasta sauce with capers so you couldn't see the steak. My husband really had only two bites.
But here it comes: the mashed potatos are instant (I never saw this before) potatos!!!
The broccoli no taste also - frozen vegetables....
So sad for this restaurant.
We had a bottle of wine which we finished and were sadly still hungry and paid a $100.00 bill.
I could have done this better at home with fresh ingredients.
Or have been at a chain restaurant with much much fresher ingredients, better taste.
For all the people who gave more than 2 stars - I have nothing to say more.
Have dined at Specchio many times over the years and find that the food delivery is sliding. Â First, the basket of bread was sparse. There were 2 thin slices of a multi grain bread for 3 people and 4 slices of French style bread which was stale. There is an offering of a bruschetta/tomato side which tasted as if it had been made as we sat down and was devoid of any flavor but unripe tomato. Â Two people ordered a pinor noir and the pour was ample but not overly generous. Â However the wine was served too warm. Of course, there is that age old problem that wine is served at room temperature but the rule was developed in France where the room was not 75 degrees but more likely below 65 and in S. Florida the wine in an open bottle will turn but maybe that is why I don't order wine when dining out. There was 2 orders of the chicken breast served with capers and a white wine/lemon sauce served with a small portion of vegetables. Â The chicken slices were pounded very thin and between the 2 servings it would appear that less than 1/2 of a chicken breast was used. Â There were 3 pieces of chicken per plate. Â The chicken slices were overcooked with the pieces showing brown as if cooked too long over too hot of a fire. Â The chicken pieces were dry. The white wine/lemon sauce was ample but tasteless and the piece of lemon on the plate was used. Â Both plates had the chicken pieces coated with capers but there was only a hint of the caper flavor as if the flavor had been cooked out of the capers. Â The third person had a veal Marsala. Â The veal was cooked appropriately and the sauce was ample but too salty. Â Yes, we tried the dessert which were allegedly made on the premises. Â The waiter touted the poached pears but turned out, the restaurant had run out and this was before 8:00. Â The apple tart was served with ice cream and whipped cream. Â The crust was burnt and dry. Â Another dessert tried was the ricotta cheese cake which was served hot as if the cake had to be defrosted and the piece was put in the microwave giving the piece a consistency of custard.
Review Source:I went with my wife today, we just moved to the area so we wanted to give it a try. We order the Surfside spice menu, 22 dollars for app and entree, really good food we order a pair of salads and Filet Mignon and tuna for mains, all the food was very tasty, hot and fresh. Then the owner send us a pair of desserts, the ricotta dessert was to die for, reaaally good! I strongly recommend this restaurant, a truly neighborhood gem.
Review Source:My wife and I are moving to Bal Harbour in a few weeks and decided to try out what we hope will be our new local haunts.  I saw that Specchio's had 4 1/2 stars and so  we had dinner there last night.  For the life of me I can't understand who would have given it less than 5 stars.  It was one of the best dinners that we have had in recent memory.  The service was excellent, the owner very personable, and it reminded me of a real home-style restaurant in Italy.  Do yourself a favor and experience Specchio's.
Review Source:Ate here last weekend with my boyfriend while we were in Miami staying at the Canyon Ranch Resort (2 miles away).
We got seated right away outside. Â Outside is small but cute. Â If it rains it is no big deal as you are under the roof.
Tons of choices on the menu. Â I had a beef appetizer (raw) and my boyfriend had an arugula salad w/hearts of palm and goat cheese. Â We both loved it.
For my main dish I had a pasta dish with cream sauce, salmon and peas. Â I really can't remember what my boyfriend ordered as I was so into my own food!
We really wanted key lime pie for dessert but it was not offered. Â Instead my boyfriend ordered a ricotta cheese cake and he liked it. Â I am not a fan so didn't eat it.
The bread is just okay but the spicy olive oil is nice. Â Good wine selection and great service. Â
I would definitely come back and recommend.
When the cafe across the street wasn't up to snuff, my guest and I skipped over to Specchio for a lunch meeting. The space itself is cute and quaint. We opted to sit outside and had our every need catered to by the polite staff. I opted for a Caprese Salad. Delish and refreshing. And the price was also super affordable. The next time I'm in Surfside and need a quick bite, I'll be sure to stop back by. I think this place could also be a homerun for dinner.
Review Source:An absolute neighborhood (& overall Miami) gem! Â My boyfriend and I went here for our first date 3 1/2 years ago and fell in love with the place. The owner is personable and gets to know you if you return (we eventually became regulars until the day we moved away - 3 years later). Â The food is always spectacular and the wine selection is fun. Daily specials are always clever. It is small & can get quite busy on the weekends but trust me, it is worth the wait! Price is very moderate for the neighborhood.
Review Source:Yet another place I can't believe I have yet to review. Â I go to Miami about 4 times a year. Â At least one day each time (usually more) I go to Specchio. Â My family members (some who live in Miami and some who visit, like I do) go even more.
The food is fabulous and the service is great. Â Gianni, the owner, is a sweetheart.
My only complain is that the bread is so good that I tend to eat tons of it with the spicy oil they provie and end up too stuff to eat all my food. Â I know I should exercise so discipline but heck, you only live once!
My favorite place to eat in the north end of the Miami Beach area, in Surfside on Harding Ave, the southbound part of A1A, near 95th Street. Tasty food at reasonable prices, friendly and competent service. Tell Gianni that he was recommended by the guys who sail, Larry and Sam. Seafood specials are terrific.
Review Source:Wonderful! When you've had your fill of the supposed traditional Italian "red sauce" and meat, take a trip to Specchio. You won't see it on the menu. Instead you'll be tantalized with anything but that red stuff, and a bounty of  seafood. My palate, over the years has grown bored with Italian food in general, but Specchio has revived my taste buds!
I came here for my birthday, and I'm so glad that I did. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting-- not at all stuffy. It's a good place to have a bite with friends, or even a date. I had the farfalle with salmon and peas in a light cream sauce, and it was absolutely delicious. The sweetness of the peas with the savory salmon is just the right touch. The spinach and ricotta ravioli with crabmeat and cream sauce is also spot on. I highly recommend either of these dishes.
My friends and I were all about celebrating my birthday. So we decided, that the homemade carrot cake--that I slaved over for the better half of my bday--was going to be dessert #2 of the night. #1 would be a ricotta cheesecake from Specchio! It was a wonderful end to our meal-- light and sweet with a dash of saltiness to round it out.
If you're ever in the area, or you're looking for some really good and affordable Italian food-- check this sweet place out. :)
Phenominal. The only word that can describe this place. Real Italian food. Specchio is a very cozy and romantic environment that lends itself to a good date night. A must try dish is the Ravioli alla Polpa di Granchio, a wonderful homemade ricotta and spinach ravioli with a vodka cream and crab sauce. Also, make sure to have some tiramisu after dinner if you still have room. Make sure you grab an espresso with it. The service is excellent, they always have fresh parmesan and black pepper at the ready. Gianni, the owner, was extremely gracious and consistently involved in making our experience better. Overall it was a wonderful time and I will be back again.
Review Source:I was visiting from NYC and craving pasta. Â I came across Specchio on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Â Having recently been to Italy I must say that the food at Specchio is spot on. Â The linguine with vongole was perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked, and well-portioned. Â The ricotta cheese cake was different than any other Italian cheesecake that I have ever had but delicious nonetheless.
For me, this restaurant captured the feel of a cafe in Italy more than any restaurant that I have eaten at since my trip (and this includes NYC).
I was very impressed and will be visiting Specchio again before I leave!
I thought you'd like to know: Specchio = mirror
I like this place a lot!! I HIGHLY recommend it.
Just like all other reviews - this place is cozy and makes you feel right at home. It's a beautiful spot. Perfect for a date or just for a nice dinner with friends. They have delicious house wine, an amazing penne with mushroom among others delicious dishes depending what you're into. It's refreshing to find such delicious Italian food.
Do not leave without trying the ricotta cheesecake. It is out of this world!!
great food, great service, great atmosphere! what more could you want!!
a lunch inside makes the outside hectic world disappear and you could be in a cafe in rome sipping some spectacular wine and enjoying delicious food. love his soups, his pasta, linguine and white clam sauce is the very best!!
dinner can be a romantic affair outside or inside....and his tiramisu is delectable! leave the kids at home so we can both enjoy a peaceful delicious meal!
Specchio is a cute little cafe in Surfside... my boyfriend and I stopped here for dinner while we were staying in Bal Harbour, and we absolutely loved it. Â The minestrone soup was probably the best I've ever had - definitely homemade. Â We both loved our entrees, and the service was fantastic. Â The little outdoor seating area was romantic at night, especially since we were the only ones out there. Â Good food, good service - overall a great restaurant!
