I regret having to give specialties a 2 star rating, because they do have a great product, the service is just TERRIBLE.
It seems like they can't get their lunch routine down. Â I've had a few instances where they've taken 20+ minutes to complete my order for lunch, only to find once I return to work that they've screwed up my order. Â Which is the worst!!!
Great food, awful service. Â Only go if you can afford to wait for 20+ minutes during lunch for your food.
My firm orders from Specialty often because its such a big hit. Â If you are a sammy kinda person, theirs are pretty hard to beat....especially their club which is piled so high with meats and cheeses and vegetables, you cant get it in your mouth. Â Awesome hot sandwiches, salads and killer cookies too. Â They really should not be missed.
Review Source:I don't eat here very often, because their menu isn't very gluten free friendly, but every once in a while I'll pick up a salad or soup. They are very helpful in looking up the ingredients for me when I'm interested in a soup that sounds like it could be safe. The Chickpea Bacon is where it's at!
The online ordering with pickup is awesome. I can customize my meal (add/remove ingredients) and get a text message when it's ready and just walk across the street and grab my bag from the shelf and go, which it great when it's packed in there.
Pretty decent place for lunch. From my personal experience here, I liked the soup the best, then the decent sandwich, the salad would come to the last. Cookies are my co-worker's favorite which she always buys the batches to go.
You order at the counter or online for the quick carry out. However, they have two ordering counters which are kind of confusing to me. Sometime, you could order at either, sometime only one of them. The lobby is a nice sitting down place to chat with friends or do people watching.
I have tried Tomato Bisque and Cream Chicken with Barley soup. Both were really delicious, creamy and not overly salty. Tuna salad was pretty good too. My new favorite sandwich is Caprese which is refreshing with all right ingredients. (I'm very fond of Mozzarella cheese and Basil so it might not be your cup of tea). I have tried Chinese Chicken Salad and Cobb salad but didn't really care much.
Services were always really quick which is what we need for the short lunch time. Staff were always friendly. I will try to order online and pick up next time to skip the lines. And definitely try the cookies next time.
I have tried this place for lunch three times now. The salads are subpar, especially for the price. For $9, I don't want mealy cold tomatoes (tomatoes should not be refrigerated), yellow lettuce, rubbery chicken, etc. Â The sandwich I had was ok, but way too much mayo-very messy to eat. Staff is friendly. Service is rather slow which is odd as the food here is not complex. Corner Bakery and Panera have better food and better prices than Specialties. Needless to say, I will not be returning.
Review Source:Woo! is Specialty's awesome or what?! Ordered some sandwich boxes for a board meeting and the delivery time was right on the money, prices were very reasonable, they even threw in a cinnamon roll and a thank you card for the order. The food is incredible and I will definitely make them my first recommendation for future meetings. Keep it rockin' Specialty's and thanks for the grub!
Review Source:This place has a great selection of pastries to have with your tea/coffee. Â Personally, I'm actually a big fan of their ham & cheese croissant, which is almost half a foot tall! Â yes, most of that is just air, but the croissant is really good and filling!
I like to go at 11:30 to beat the lunch-rush. Â There are many seating options and the many floor to ceiling windows allow a lot of light into the place.
Having been here at least 5 times since our office moved downtown, I've putt off writing a review to weight it between four and five stars... as you can see, it's a four star for me, and here's why:
1. Â The food is excellent. Â Salads are fresh, sandwiches are spectacular, coffee is on point, and while I haven't tried a confection/cookie yet, I've heard nothing but good things.
2. Â The food is slightly pricier than what I would like to pay, but the quality is undeniably good. Â $8.61 for a small chicken cobb salad? Â To be fair, I was full... the croutons were seasoned and toasted (in house made), and it came with small slice of foccacia. Â
3. Â Customer service was very good while I was there. Â Lots of smiles and friendly servers who make it seem like they're happy you're there. Â And they recognize your order by name, and not just order number. Â
Verdict: Â A great lunch time place, and I can't wait to try the cookies that people keep raving about...
I really like this place. I especially love that they carry day old bakery items because they are seriously just as good! When I'm in a rush I just come in and grab a day old cookie or two and be on my way. The staff is also very, very friendly.
I'm also a HUGE fan of their amazing mini bundt cakes. They are to die for.
I've only been to Specialty's after the lunch rush on those 2PM lunch kinda days, so I have no idea what it's like during a normal crowd. Each of the few days I have been there I've had surprisingly similar experiences. If you're anything like me, your trip to Specialty's will go something like this:
You arrive at Specialty's to find a coffee cash register and (what looks like) a food cash register. You stand at the food counter for a few minutes waiting to order food. Someone finally stops by to tell you that you will be ordering your food at the coffee bar.
You go to the coffee bar and wait amongst the standard loop afternoon coffee crowd, with their button down shirts and corporate chit chat. You finally get to order and get your receipt. Your receipt says 2:12PM.
You wait awkwardly near the kitchen window. You count 4, 5, 6 people running around the kitchen. You notice most of them are cleaning up and prepping for the next day, not making your salad. You sort of wish one of them was making your salad. You feel bad because you know they want to finish their day and get on with it as much as anyone.
You see an order come up five minutes later. You realize that the person who it belongs to was no where near the counter when you arrived some 10 minutes prior, so had presumably been waiting for a good long time for his sandwich. You wish you had remembered your phone. You notice the signs for "beat the line" and "order online." You don't think the line is the problem here.
You finally get your food and race back to the office because it's shockingly cold for May and you forgot your coat because you're an a**hole. You get up to your desk and check the time, realizing your salad was a full 10 minutes in the making. You open and munch said salad. You find the salad to be fine. You count only four tiny tomatoes and one piece of artichoke heart. You don't feel too bad, because neither are your favorites. You go online to check the actual ingredients and realize they have forgotten your "bean mix" which would have made the whole salad way better. You are suddenly very sad.
You write a pissy Yelp review. You feel better.
This is a great place for lunch in the loop. Their sandwiches are simple and delicious and their cookies are to die for.
You order at the counter and get a little buzzer. About 5-10 minutes later, it goes off and you pick up your food at the counter.
Don't know how it's possible, but their cookies are the best on the planet and they are served warm. It's impossible not to eat the whole thing.
Customer service is friendly. A floor manager helped me make my decision (Turkey Cranberry sandwich) and then followed up with me after to make sure it was up to my liking.
2 sandwiches, 2 drinks, 2 cookies, one bag of chips: $25. PS: Coke products, yay.
Walked in here for a fine cup of Intelligentsia Coffee. It seems like this is in the mold of Panera, Corner Bakery, or another shop. Lots of muffins, cakes, scones, and other breakfast and lunch sandwiches that you can get.
I just went with the El Diablo Dark Roast. $2.31 was my total and I refilled that sucker, you best believe that!
This place should be ashamed for what they charge and serve as a sandwich. Â I just had Specialties for the first time today after hearing people rave about it for a while. Â I don't mind paying $8 for a sandwich, but it better be awesome and plentiful. Â I had The Commander, or some similar dumb name, and it was a mess. Â There was about 1oz of Turkey on this thing and a pound of lettuce and sprouts. Â There was something that resembled a pickle shard and tomatoes to only one side of the sandwich. Â Apparently, the other side is not allowed to have any. Â And so much avocado, I am wearing half of it on my lap. Â
Anyway, never going back. Â If it was $4 sandwich, I would expect less. Â People settle for expensive sub-par food in this city for lunch.
Best customer service! Â
I ordered soup and a salad to go, with a special request to substitute the roll that comes with soup with a piece of focaccia. I got back to my office, and noticed the focaccia was missing, but NO BIG DEAL. (They almost always get my special requests right, so I wasn't going to hold it against them that this one time they missed one thing. Anyway, I thought, perhaps some higher being was telling me I should lay off the carbs :) )
Fast forward 5 minutes, and I get a call from the receptionist at my office telling me that Matt (the manager, I think?) of Specialty's had to drop something off for me. Â YES - that is right. Â He realized this tiny little error and BROUGHT THE BREAD UP TO MY OFFICE.
I've always thought the service at Specialtys was very friendly and nice, but they took it to a whole new level today! Â Yay. Â I'm so happy in my little bread food coma now :)
Wow! Â I was really impressed with Specialty's. Â I had received a gift card early last year for this cafe and bakery, and I finally had a chance to give it a try.
From the moment I walked it, I was greeted by the manager and friendly cashier. Â It was such a welcome level of service for a sandwich joint. Â I ended up ordering the Cobb sandwich which was fresh and delicious. Â I really loved tasting the quality of the ingredients. Â What a difference from the mass produced Subway type shops. Â
Though I did not try it on this occasion, Specialty's also has a great on-line ordering option that has your food ready at priority pickup upon arrival.
Overall, I had a great experience, and I would definitely return.
I had a Specialty's caprese sandwich on a recent trip to Chicago, and it was, no joke, the best caprese sandwich of my life, and one of the best cold sandwiches I've ever had (I'm normally more of a hot sandwich person). Â It came on the best herbed focaccia I've ever had, with basil, spinach (! non-standard for caprese, but I love it), olive oil, excellent red pepper pesto, and very fresh mozzarella. Â It was phenomenal.
Its funny, because when I saw the name I thought, "hey we have a Specialty's in California, but I guess its just the same name...they can't possibly be related." Â In fact it is - they have about 20 locations in CA, a couple in Washington state, and totally randomly, 2 in Chicago. Â Although they aren't super close to me around here (the nearest one is over 10 miles), its definitely on my wish list to go back for another amazing caprese sandwich.
(Best ___: Best Caprese)
I don't know how it took me and my colleagues so long to find this place but I'm glad we did. Nothing here will completely blow your socks off but it's a great, consistent place to grab a salad, sandwich or a few baked goods. Far better than the major lunch chains in the neighborhood.
The cookies are to die for.
I heard the catering is phenomenal as well.
I went here with a co-worker and we split an order of the BBQ beef sandwich, a large spicy Thai peanut salad, and BBQ chips. The total was around $18 and some change.
The salad was oh so delicious and very LARGE. The cabbage was very fresh and that sauce is a-maz-ing. Â It comes with honey roasted peanuts which I love and the cabbage is kind of spicy, but a few pieces were not shredded.
The sandwich looked quite smaller than usual. Â It was still very delicious, the meat is cooked medium and although the slaw was good I wouldn't describe it as "spicy". Â Oh yea you also get like four slices of bacon. Oink Oink.
This was so much food. I saved my chips for later. Â This was a really filling lunch.
This place is just dangerous.
I've never met a pastry/cake/cookie I didn't like. Â And no exception for any of the baked goods here...and they do it very well. Â I try not to come here too often as I want to keep my girlish figure, but sometimes the siren call of a wheat germ cookie or a rocky road brownie prevails.
To be honest I haven't tried too many of their lunch offerings, because I'm stuck on their Peanut Butter N' Stuff sandwich. Â This is what every PB&J sandwich aspires to be when it grows up. Â On thick sliced whole grain bread is spread chunky PB, raspberry jam, and slices of green apple and banana. Â Some people might recoil of the thought of fruit on a sandwich, but trust me...give it a try and you'll never go back to your PB&J on wonder bread with the crusts cut off. Â This is the PB&J for grown ups. Â This is the PB&J for culinary connesseuirs. Â
On their website you can also sign up for alerts on when fresh baked cookies come out of the oven, so you can run over and gorge yourself on warm gooey cookies. Â
As Specialty's is in the loop expect to pay loop prices on their warm baked goods. Â But I'm happy to pay a little bit more for quality than get some dethawed pound cake from Starbucks.
I've only had their Dawn's Vegan Salad... but I love it. I think the part I like best is the thyme focaccia bread that comes with it. It's delicious and has sea salt or kosher salt on top which gives it a good salty flavor.
The prices are a bit high but the quality of food is good. I wouldn't go here every day just because of the $ but if you've got it, spend it here.
I got the small Dawn's Vegan and it was enough for me to eat two lunches. So $7.55 for two lunches at work isn't bad. I did get an extra piece of focaccia which was maybe 83 cents. There's something addictive in that bread.
Oh, I also like their website. You can order food on it or just look at the menu. It's nice that they have nutritional information on everything. I was going to get a sandwich but freaked out at how much sodium was in it. I'm sure it's not half as bad as Potbelly's or Quiznos or when I eat a ton of food at Hot Doug's, though haha.
I go before noon and it takes no time. About 7 minutes from order to food. =D
So I've eaten here now 3x and I'm indifferent to this place, it's not horrible but it's not something that I look forward to eating-Yet I don't eat salads and I'm finicky, so that's bad on my part for the 2 stars-It's next to my bldg, so it's close, which is why I've gone 2 more times-
The last 2 times I got the roast beef on whole wheat bread, sandwich is ok but I'm not left saying "Wow this was really good!" which I need to give a place 4-5 stars-And for a sandwich and a drink it was $10, that is without chips and some sweet treat-
It's very clusterd in here with people waiting for their food to go and the lines can get long, the 3 lines that serve sandwiches, soup and salad-I think the lay out should have been changed to take orders in the back and have the eating area right when you walk in-
Specialty's fell out of my favor after ditching their delicious vegan sandwich, but slowly over the last six months, they've won back my heart.
I love Specialty's for their delicious breakfast pastries, incredible cookies, scrumptious bread, and convenient on-line ordering/pick-up options. You can not get more convenient, in fact.
I use their on-line system to build a custom sandwich, select side dishes, etc., Then, I pay for my meal and in 15 minutes when I arrive at the store, it's waiting for me. Plus, they have a baker's dozen club! So after 12 orders, they take me out to lunch!!
Specialty's also has a really cute cookie gram for purchase, which sends a coupon for a cookie via email. (What a nice, inexpensive pick-me-up for a local friend/co-worker with the blues.)
worlds best chocolate chip cookie....ever!
The thing is ginormous and I'm sitting here seriously contemplating going to get another! Giant chocolate chips, delicious buttery tast, soft inside, crunchy outside. Hello Fat Farm, it's me, Aya!
Oh yeah, and they have good soup and always offer a vegetarian option!
Yum yum yum!
I finally went here for lunch with a friend-- I had only ever experienced the goodness of the cookies that are freshly baked. Â If you hit them at the right time, you can get them coming right out of the oven. Â Mmmm...
I had the Hot BBQ Beef Sandwich. Â Holy hell it's good. Â BBQ beef, cheddar, bacon and cole slaw on cibatta bread-- that's right, the cole slaw is RIGHT on the sandwich. Â Best. Sandwich. Ever. Â I shudder to think how many calories are consumed while gobbling this up.
If you hit this straight up at lunch time, whether you get it to go or eat in, you're gonna wait for a bit. Â Please wait, because it's worth it.
I'm always looking for new places to have lunch in the loop. I get stuck in my usual rut and I don't know where to go for lunch. A friend suggested Specialty's, she is the lucky duck that works across the street from this fine deli. I had roast beef on focaccia bread and it was heavenly. It was the best damn sammich I had in a long time. Everything is made fresh to order using quality ingredients. She had the turkey pesto on focaccia and her sandwich was rockin too.
We skipped the chips and other sides to indulge in a warm soft baked cookie. Specialty's actually sends you email alerts when their cookies come out of the oven! ZOMG, seriously!? I was lucky enough to have a warm peanut butter chocolate chip cookie. It was to die for! It's a good thing this place is about a 12 minute walk from my office or I would be coming here daily.
Great new deli to check out if you are bored with your usual go to lunch spots. I dig.
Specialty's is one of my favorite lunch places in the loop. I have to pace myself and not go there too much so that I don't get tired of it. The thing that I really appreciate is the online ordering- its very convenient, and you can go and pick up your order already bagged up and ready to go after 10 min. This makes it easy for me if I'm busy at work- I can just order online, grab and go. I also like that the online system shows how many calories each of the sandwiches, etc. are - so if you are watching your calories, you can remove the mayo, etc. to get your food so something that you would be more pleased with.
I really enjoy the semisweet chocolate chip cookies- you can sign up for cookie alerts where they will send you an email when the cookies leave the oven so that you can run over and get hot cookies. They ooze with chocolatey goodness!
I also like the fact that everything there is made from scratch. Yeah, it's a little pricey, but you get what you pay for.
**Be sure to put your business card in the bowl to get a free lunch. Not alot of people do it, so your chances are high for winning. Both me and my boss and another co-worker have won lunch.
If you want excellent customer service and great food, go to Specialty's.
The best thing about this place is, undoubtedly, the bakery. The sandwiches are decent, but not that different from what you'd get elsewhere. The cookies, however, are creative and delicious (far more than just chocolate chip here!).
My sister is a fan of the wheat germ cookies. I don't understand why you'd want wheat germ in your cookies, but I'm glad there's a place for people who do. My personal favorites are the mint chocolate chip and chocolate peanut butter cookies. Mmmm mmmmmm!
While I'm rather nondiscriminatory in my cookie consumption (all are good to me!), Specialty's cookies are, indeed, a special treat.
Normally, I'd give this place 4 stars. Â But compare it to the crapfest that is lunch in the Loop and an extra star is deserved. Â
Specialty's is the shizz. Â I love that I can order my sandwich online, take a little walk down Wacker, and it will be ready when I arrive. Â Anywhere where I can skip the line is a place I'll go back to over and over again. Â
And the food. Â YUM. Â The Peanut Butter & Stuff is my go-to sammich - crunchy PB, apples, cranberry sauce, and banana, all on fresh whole-wheat bread? Â I love it. Â Pair it with a warm peanut butter chocolate chip cookie and you have a little slice of lunch heaven. Â
Yeah, they're a bit pricier than the Paneras of the world. Â But I'll pay $2 extra for food this good any day of the week! Â (Well, not on weekends as they're closed. Â But you get the idea.)
Great lunch spot in the Loop! Â It has the look of a Corner Bakery but tastes like so much more.
I've tried the Hot Hammer, Hot Italian, and Turkey and Cranberry... all delicious. Â Fresh bread, crisp lettuce, firm tomatoes (I can't stand mushy tomatoes, sure fire way to ruin any sandwich) and they don't skimp on anything. Â Even sandwiches like Hot Hammer that has melted cheese gets a total thumbs up for the bread remaining "unmushy" with all the juicy goodness oozing out. Â I've never tried any of the desserts or baked goods but I often drool over the display case while waiting to order and I've heard from people that I've gone with that the cookies are fantastic. Â
I love the fact that you can order online and then walk in and pick it up. Â There are lots of places in the Loop that are doing this now and I love it; glad Specialty's is on board with that. Â My only other suggestion would be to avoid trying to eat in at peak lunch times. Â There isn't much seating and it gets pretty busy so get there a little early or take it to go. Â And by "take it to go" I mean run back to your desk and secretly eat a big sandwich and three yummy cookies before anyone notices your indulgence.
This place is soooo good. Their stuff is so fresh and tasty.
I go to their website and order for pickup for 4 reasons (1) the lunch club, your 13th sandwich is free, (2) avoiding a long late in line, (3) not getting nasty glares from the cashier for being ridiculously high maintenance with my order and (4) I can tell them if I want my order right away or at a later time.
I haven't had anything I don't like here. The breads they bake are so good. My favorite sweet treats are the wheatgerm chocolate chip cookies, especially if you can get them fresh out of the oven. They have so many topping options to choose from you can always get exactly what you want. They also have a nice soup selection, which always includes a vegetarian option.
The one odd thing about this place is their love of dressings/sauces. Each sandwich seems to have at least 3 of them standard on them. It's a bit too much for me so I usually ask them to leave at least one off (high maintenance I know).
On the website you can choose if you want your sandwich to come in a box or just wrapped - skip the box. Save a tree and save yourself the hassle of trying to pry the sticker seal off the box (it's like they use superglue). This place is also fantastic for group orders, each item comes with the person's name on it so there's no guessing what's what.
I always feel like this is a healthy lunch option, the website even tells you the fat, calories and fiber of your lunch choice.
I am looking around frantically for my favorite sandwich in Chicago. The vegan at Specialty's? Wha-what's happened? Do I have to order it from San Fran? That's going to cost me a fortune!
This is disastrous. Management must be contacted. And I'd better not hear some lame excuse about sky-rocketing food prices...
The coolest thing about this place is the abilty to edit or create your own sandwiches on their awesome website! Then you just skip on over and pickup your creation. The vegan sandwich is quite yummy. I've been experimenting with modifications of that and it's been fun, reasonably priced and delicious!
kick ass!
UPDATE: BOOO.... they dropped the vegan sandwich from the menu so they lose a star!
I like Specialty's for the value. Â I usually order the Vegan (but on the whole wheat bread) and it is only $4! Â And the sandwich is huge! Â I recommend the wheat bread because it makes the sandwich a bit easier to eat.
Cookies! Â The cookies here are amazing. Â Soft, doughy, full of goodness. Â You can even get day-old cookies for half the price and all the deliciousness. Â
After the first time I came here, I won a free lunch for dropping my business card in the fishbowl. Â Not only did I get a free lunch, I also got a free cookie (and one for my friend). Â How nice!
Update: I recently came in here and was tempted by the Vegan Chili. Â Amazing! Â It was spicy with a little bit of sweetness and lots of veggies. Â I highly recommend it!
I went here with Molly on Monday hoping to try the much yelped about chicken artichoke soup, but we were DENIED since they were already out of it when we got there at 12:30. Boo hiss. Nonetheless, I had a fantastic lunch comprised of the VEGAN sandwich (Mushroom, Spinach, Tomato, Artichoke Hearts, Avocado, Fresh Basil & Kalamata Olives on Focaccia - apparently I unknowingly tricked Molly into eating basil), the tomato lentil soup, and a fresh baked semi-sweet chocolate chip cookie. Oh my.
The vegan sandwich was DELICIOUS. Absolutely one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. So much goodness in a huge sandwich and for only $4. Unbelievable. The foccacia had sea salt baked into the top which was delicious but by the end, even I who shake salt onto my hand occasionally to eat it, was salted out! The soup was piping hot, but it was lacking the flavor I had hoped for. The next day I pulled apart a piece of muenster and heated it up and that helped it out. The cookies, oh my god, the cookies! Molly got a chocolate cookie with white chocolate chips and I got the semi-sweet chocolate chip cookie. Oh my god. These cookies are amazing. They are so rich and so big that I could barely finish one. I can't even wrap my head around how good they were.
Specialty's is a bit of a walk for me, but the food is so worth it. Next time it's on the menu, I hope to actually get a taste of this magical chicken artichoke soup. I'm actually thinking of ordering it far ahead of time, to assure that I get this soup. Good soup in the loop, for me, is an elusive thing.
Someone said I eat at a lot of places I don't like. That's not true at all! I eat at Specialty's all the time! And I love this place.
I think I love the breakfast-time pastries the best...
No! I love the yummy soups.
Wait, no, the fucking SANDWICHES! they are the best! So fresh, so big, so unique. I love The Cobb best of all, yummmmmmmm
p.s. I also love to order Specialty's for work. They have great catering options and wonderful service.
Overall: Excellent food, good menu, good ability to customize, not so good at having online orders ready on time. Easy to miss when walking by.
I passed by Specialty's every day for a year and didn't know it. It's inside a building, but you can see it through the glass window. So look for the building address if it's your first time eating here!
I've eaten at Specialty's twice now, and their sandwiches are great. Last time I had a turkey & cranberry sandwich that was amazing. This time I opted for the ham sandwich, also great. They use quality fresh ingredients and do not skimp on ingredients. I also had their great oatmeal raisin cookie, which was warm, soft, and fluffy!
You can order online at https://www.specialtysdi…. It is very easy to select the food and even add/remove from the listed ingredients of a salad or sandwich. The website even tells you health information (calories, fat, etc.) not only for the whole sandwich, but in each item of the sandwich, so when you add or remove items you know the health value!
Unfortunately, Specialty's does not always get the customized sandwich/salad correct, and it seems you always have to wait for them to make your salad/sandwich even when you pre-order on the web.
When my office had staff lunch meetings, I would always order from here because I loved the virtual sandwich. Â Specialty's has an online ordering site where you "build your own" sandwich. Â It also tells you the fat and calorie information so I knew how well everyone was eating . .muhahahha.
Anyhoo, I enjoy Specialty's a great deal and it is a MAJOR lunchtime staple for me. Â The have great veggie options (Try the Thai Cucumber sandwich) as well as some solid Roast Beef and other sammy meats. Â Also, The Vegetarian sandwich is fabulous. The salads are so-so and if I go green, I will opt for the Southwestern.
The soup here is FANTASTIC if you hit it on the right day. Â My favorite is the Chicken Artichoke. Â The Bulgarian Red Pepper is good too - a meal in itself. Â
The BLT here is probably my favorite. I prefer it on the whole wheat roll. I have never been disappointed with it and they always use the right amount of B, L and T. Â I get it with honey dijion mustard because mayo is not my thing.
Now for dessert. . .the cookies are phenomenal! Â Always warm and goopy-baked fresh everyday. Â I LOVE LOVE the wheat germ choco chip because it sounds healthier (but probably is not). Â I am not even a big dessert person but it is hard to pass up a Specialty's Cookie.
*Update 5/23/07*
As much as I hate to do this, I must drop my Specialty's rating from 5-star to 3. Â It seems drastic, I know but I will never look at Specialty's the same way again. Â The last time I had the Chicken Artichoke Soup from here, I got a mild case of the Food Poisoning. Â My co-worker (who eats here A LOT too) called to let them know as I was on my way home, in a cab, with a case of the sweats trying not to vomit. Â She got forwarded to the corporate HQ and the lady said since no one else had complained, it was probably nothing? Â Nothing? Â Lady, I couldn't eat chicken for two weeks and my favorite soup is now banished from my diet. Â The pain. Â The horror. Â But most of all, the sadness.
I will still eat the cookies (but haven't been able to walk back in here yet) because I have never heard of a cookie FP incident (unless it is raw dough but that is a little obvious as far as cookies go). Â Maybe I will be back one day for a veggie sandwich. . .but never the chicken artichoke soup. Â Sniffle.
I just ate the best sandwich ever!! Â And it came from Specialty's Cafe & Bakery. Â I was looking for a new place to go for lunch today and saw some reviews on Yelp, so I thought I would give Specialty's Cafe a try. Â I ordered the tuna fish sandwich on the herb bread. Â Sweet jumpin' jingle bells!!! Â The bread was fresh and soft and deeeeeeeeelish! Â The tuna fish was yuuuuummy! Â While I was waiting in line to pay for my order, I indulged in the chocolate chip cookie samples on the counter. Â They were still warm. Â
I'm looking forward to my next visit to Specialty's so I can try some of the other yummy looking sammiches. Â The bakery section looked great too! Â
Today they had a special on the cookies...buy 2 and get 1 free. It took every ounce of mental strength that I had to convince myself not to order the cookies. I reasoned that someone might find me laying under my desk in a food coma...covered in cookie crumbs...with smudges of chocolate on my face. I still don't know why I thought that would be a bad thing, but it occupied my mind until I got past the cookie section and was able to dodge the dreaded question of "would you like anything else with your order?"
