Having checked into the Hilton O'Hare hotel around 8pm, I decided to check out the hotel restaurants for dinner. I found this place to be hoping with action compared to the other more sedate restaurant choices so I decided to eat here. Since I was by myself I found a single bar stool available in the bar area, which I immediately seized.
I started with a 23 ounce glass of the local draft Goose Island Imperial Brown for $12.25 and a medium rare duck burger for only $15 with French fries. I was quite surprised at the good quality and taste of the duck burger and the French fries. Both were tasty. The total cost was $30 excluding gratuity.
As an airport hotel restaurant I would highly recommend this restaurant especially for their duck burger with fries.
Burgers or Wings?
We didn't make it to the hotel in time for the dinner menu so we had to order off the late night menu as it was 10pm. It's menu offered wings and burgers. Burger choices were beef, lamb, duck, or turkey. I ordered the turkey burger with fries. Â It wasn't the best turkey burger but the fries were good.
I did feel a bit sorry for the lady who waited on us. She was working hard to take care of everyone and running all over the place. She kept our glasses full and checked on us several times.
There were few choices when I checked into the hotel so instead of room service I opted to try the Sports Edition Bar, even thought the reviews here on yelp were not the best. Â They didn't lie.
My chicken sandwich was of the greasy panini sort which isn't too much to my liking. Â Yet all the ingredients were fresh and it was a generous size as were the perfectly cooked french fries so thus the two stars. Â Considering the high hotel restaurant price, the servings should have been generous. Â
They were out of all the specialty beers on the menu and so I overpaid for a draft from the bar. It was served at the right temperature and at least the pickle was crisp. Â
Some large screen televisions does not a sports bar make. Â There was some cool sports memorabilia and the decor is attractive enough. Â My waiter was attentive and efficient and perhaps had I ordered something else, I might have given this spot another star. Â In any case, it might be great for drinks, but I'd think twice before eating here again.
This is a typical sports bar with many large  flat screens showing football/basketball/baseball (unfortunately, no hockey now).  Service is usually friendly and pretty fast (but I have been served the wrong sandwich before).  I have had the steak burger, lamb burger, and pulled pork sandwich before and they were all decent.  This time they have something new on the menu - duck burger!  I tried it and it was delicious!  As others have stated, drinks are not cheap ($9 for a pint of draft beer); but food is always good. If the drink prices were more reasonable, I would have given this place a 4 star rating.  Still, it's not a bad place to spend time during a layover in ORD.
Review Source:Killed a couple of layovers here. Â And I think a couple is going to have to do it for me. Â The service is pretty lacking....they have that attitude that they just don't want to be there and don't care if you do either. Â The drinks are fucking EXPENSIVE too. Â Two martinis will get you a bill over $30. Â And there's nothing special about the martinis except they serve them in weird little stemless wine glasses which kind of makes them a pain in the ass to drink if you've got a skewered olive up in that shit.
Didn't try the food but I wasn't exactly enticed to do so either.
Meh.
I had room service at the hotel where this place is housed in the night before and the menu was fairly identical and equally overpriced (which seems to be the norm for hotel/airport places). Convenient for a quick bite. Food was decent enough and the service was pretty fast and friendly.
Nothing special but not awful either. But in this location, you aren't really left with a lot of choices so I suppose it's good enough.
As many of my fellow Yelpers have already stated, there are very limited dining options at O'Hare to eat and meet without being an actual traveler passing through security. Â You're left to this Sports Edition Bar, Gaslight Club and Andiamo Italian dining. Â For a brief lay-over chat, Sports Edition it is. Â Thankfully, it's located only a short 2 minute jaunt from the CTA O'Hare Blue Line stop. Â All of the food is extremely overpriced and made by the same kitchen as it's neighbor, Andiamo (they're actually connected). Â My friend and I split the Chicken Fingers which were priced at $11. Â I was surprised they supplied two plates and an extra cup of dressing. Â The ranch is "homemade" but super watery and sour, however, the honey-mustard was tasty. Â There are several TVs, drunk business men and sticky floors---not the fondest memories. Â The worst part: screaming in order to carry on a conversation with a rarely seen friend.
Review Source:A friend of mine had a 3 hour layover last night. He calls, and says {Extended New Year's hungover tone in voice} "Come meet me at O'Hare for a few drinks."
{Long sigh} I said, "Sure." Â I tried to explain to my friend that once you leave the secured area, there really is not a bar or restaurant near the American terminal, besides the Hilton. When he barrelled out of Terminal 3 {100 mile stare probably due to consuming Xanax like candy}, he said, "Yep, Hilton works for me."
Me, wifey & said friend walk over to the Hilton. Yes, wifey went along because:
1) "Said friend" is actually one of the few friends of mine that she likes
2) I would need her to drive home
Upon entering, we did find the bar cosmetically appealing. Now, shocking as it may sound, I have been in a hotel bar or two. The prices. Well, I was eagerly expecting to get raped; but, even my eyeballs probably had a terrified look upon first glance at the menu. Â Here's a breakdown:
Miller Lite bottle: $8
23 oz. Miller Lite draft: $11.50
House Cabernet: Â $15
Chips & Salsa: Â $11.50
Ouch! Oh well, it was New Year's Day, and we were at the airport, so let 2011 start in the red!
The service was very good, and attentive-especially since my Johnny Walker ($38) slurping friend, kept hand motioning "Anna" over to our table. She was patient, and laughed {biting her tongue} when I apologized for his behavior.
The Sports Edition is what it is. I know, and expect to pay absurd prices at a hotel bar, but this is, by far, the most expensive one I've been to yet. I understand getting bent over, but I would've had at least two more drinks if the prices were somewhat on par with other hotel lounges.
I hope that I will not return...
I was waiting for a friend to arrive from O'hare on a delayed flight so popped in here to kill some time and grab a bite. Â The place is textbook Hotel Sports Bar so don't look for anything that strays from that. Â I had the Albacore Tuna Panini which was impressive in size and actually pretty damn good.
