For the prices I expected much better. The fiancee and I went in on a thursday night expecting to spend $65-70 or so on a decent meal. We both had the small filets, one appetizer, split a side salad, split dessert; I had 2 beers she had a tall pour of wine. Our bill was over $100. Partly due to the fact that the 'upcharge' to have grilled asparagus on my plate instead of the grilled veg medley was $6! I found that OUTRAGEOUS. The asparagus wasnt even that good. The food was meh, not bad but nothing to write home about. The atmosphere was, however, nice and romantic. Thats about the only thing they have going for them. One more gripe. the menu was outdated and many items I inquired about were no longer being offered, most notably the bread pudding.
For the kind of money we spent on dinner we could have stayed close to home and dined at the Rochester Chop House and had a superb meal. Dont bother with this place unless someone insists on going, and if you do, watch the bill for nickel and dime upcharges.
This is a hit or miss place. By this I mean service and food quality are NOT consistent! My initial visit here was great, but my second time dining was a disaster! We had a reservation and were seated right away, however it took nearly 10 mins for our server to come to the table and greet us with menus when I witnessed several available servers standing around near back of restaurant! Our sever was Stephanie, she was unprofessional, incompetent, and basically missing in action throughout our entire dining experience. We had to ask several other servers to get her for refills on drinks and even had to speak to someone else to correct an issue with our food! Server Stephanie never came to our table, only to present the check. I even had to get another server to cash us out! Manager was not much better in his professionalism, my dish was undercooked which he attempted to improve but never returned to our table to ask if the meal was more satisfactory! Overall, this place is trying to live up to an upscale bistro feel in macomb county but is staffing this place with Burger King level servers and cooks. For these meal prices I suggest you travel elsewhere!
Review Source:Why did it take us so long to try this place?!? Â So delicious. Â I started my dinner with a Signature martini, dirty, which comes with Grey Goose and your choice of olives. Â It was $9, but it was HUGE! Â I had the short ribs which were perfectly seared then braised til falling apart with a delicious sauce/gravy. Â They were served over perfectly al dente egg pasta and roasted veggies. Â My dining companions said their entrees were awesome - I'd have loved to try a bite, but I was too busy cleaning my own plate. Â It was a perfect amount of food for me, and I'd rate that a 5, hands down.
Service was left a bit to be desired - took a while to get our drinks, forgot to fill up our waters a few time, etc. - but I hate to knock down the overall rating from a 5 because it wasn't *that* bad.
My husband and I spent about $80 before tip, which included my short ribs, his scallops, two martinis and two glasses of wine (aka $36 worth of alcohol). Â Not cheap, but worth it. Â We'll be back!
One of the many places that offered a Pre-Christmas  Gift Card Bonus
$10 for every $50 spent, and the $10 bonus must be redeemed in January 2013, no problem!
We have dined here before , but usually avoid every place on or near Hall Rd on a Friday or Saturday Night, Â but ventured here tonight & waited less than 4 minutes for a cozy booth.
Mike was our server, and he was a fine young man , that knew the menu & tonight's specials very well, he started us out with a bottle of there chilled water, no ice, which works for me, and i inquired about the quality of there white sangria & cosmos , he assured me both were great.
The Cosmo was okay...but very dry, if you know what I mean.He saw it was not being consumed & swapped it out for a red sangria. which was Great!
$5 Â not to bad!
The Bride ordered the Perch Picante Special, with blanched green beans & jasmine rice
A+
I ordered the Blackened Ribeye, with green beans & a marvelous sweet potato casserole which was EXCELLENT!
Ribeye was cooked medium rare to perfection.
They have a gift  as , how they prepare , flavor & cut there vegetables here..
Love the uniqueness & presentation  of this place & I hope you know about there  wonderful Birthday Special!
Very very yummy!
Nice to have something on Hall Rd that is a local place, not the typical franchise.
We went for my Husbands birthday, with his parents and we all enjoyed our meals very much.
The crab and shrimp cake is great! Â Nice lump crab, and it wasn't all filler. Â The sauce and slaw on top was a great touch.
Cesar Salad had a great garlic taste, and had just the right amount of dressing.
My Mother-In-law had the chicken pot pie. Â It was loaded with big pieces of fresh veggies in a well seasoned gravy.
Father-In-Law had the french onion soup, which had a TON of cheese melted on top, he loved every bite of it! Â He also had the stuffed tilapia. Â Tilapia was cooked just right!
Hubs had the meatloaf, which was good, but it was meatloaf...kinda hard to screw it up.
The menu is very nice, and it was quite hard to decide what we wanted!
The reason for only 4 stars was out server. Â He was nice, but VERY very slow. Â Beers from the bar took FOREVER.
Other than that, it was a great meal, and we will be back for sure.
Popped in for a bite of fish on Friday.  Trout was the special so I decided to try it.  I ordered a 6 oz glass of  Seaglass sauvignon blanc, it was good but I thought the price was a bit high at $9.00 - but it did pair very well with the trout. Â
I noticed that the meat on the trout was reddish in color. Â It was absolutely delicious! Â Rock star delicious! Â I wondered what I was really eating because I have never had trout that tasted this way or was red. Â The waitress didn't know why the meat was red so she had the manager come over. Â The manager explained that it was 'ruby red trout'. Â Ah ha...loved it. Â The meat was really tender and thicker than a normal trout meat. Â The sauce on top was perfect for the way the fish was cooked and for the type of fish being served. Â I know I had sides but can't remember what they were as I was so caught up in this excellent fish. Â I'm not even a huge fish fan, Â I am a steak fan so I know they outdid themselves with this new special on the menu.
Not impressed. When we came in it was pretty busy so I was hoping for more. Food was so mediocre. The only highlight was the "exotic cheese plate". The melted Brie with raspberry was so good. The cheddar cheese ball for pepper was ok. Blue cheese stuffed olives were ok. None of these would be called exotic in my opinion. Btw it was a long wait to get our appetizer in the first place. Not to mention getting seated. Had the blackened ribeye with jalapeño polenta. Hubby had the oak filet. Both was just blah. Underwhelmed. We joked that we should have just gone to the outback for better steaks. I regretted not getting the sea bass instead. By that time, I was already full, annoyed... Decided to end it. Will not come back. Nothing special. Confused as why it was so crowded.
Review Source:Great service, good wine list (love 9 oz option), complimentary hot bread with tomato balsamic sauce. Group of four - one ordered sushi & loved it, two ordered wild berry salmon & loved it. One said "best I've ever had." I thought it was more of a barbecue flavor than berry, but it was very tasty salmon. I had the 7 oz filet, medium, and it was excellent. Cooked perfectly and great flavor from wood fire stove. We all loved the dinner, will be back soon.
Review Source:Thanx to all my Yelper friends (especially Ron C.), I finally visited this eating establishment. Â I ordered a blackened Rib-eye steak and it was superb!
Tried to get in last Friday night and they had a one hour wait for a table. Â Tried again the other night (during the week) and it wasn't even half-full.
Prices were what I was expecting ..... service was excellent. Â Lighting was low, a little lower than my preference.
All in all, a great dining experience.
Came here for lunch last Sunday with my husband and 22 month old. I wouldn't take my son again bc it was a nice place and not really for kids in my opinion although they did have high chairs and there were a couple of elementary age kids there.
Good food, good service, great decor. I had the chicken sandwich and my husband had the bow-tie pasta w/chicken, my son had mac and cheese w/fries. Bread basket was good and so was the marinara that it was served with. My extremely fussy son liked it! We ordered the tuna sushi shots and those were delish.
I will try the sushi next time, it looked good but the chicken sandwich consisted of all my fave ingredients: grilled chicken, bacon, cheddar YUM!
Decided to go to Sterlings on a Thursday after shopping with my girlfriend at the mall.
The food was delicious and our server, whose name escapes me (Fernanda??? Â attractive, dark haired woman with an accent) was friendly and attentive. Â The drinks come in cool tall, interesting glasses. Â The regular prices are "eh, reasonable", though I did wish they had a few entrees on the menu that were a little less only because my girlfriend who came with me is a little more budget-y than I. Â However, the BEST thing ever happened - our waitress told us that Thursday was Ladies Night and all of our entrees were half off. Â We seriously had to ask her three times if we heard her right - and we had.
I think she got a bistro prime rib for about $9. Â I chose the lobster-oscar bistro filet which normally was $36 became $13. Â How can you BEAT THAT???? Â Seriously, you can't.
While I enjoyed Sterlings, if I want a steak dinner, I can find other places to eat (though maybe not in the general area)... but if it's Thursday, I'll be going there. Â And I mean that - I *WILL* be going there. Â Can't wait to tell all my girlfriends about my new best kept secret. Â
If you are looking for well-prepared food in a casual environment, Sterlings does stand out as something different in the area. Â Check it out.
Edited to add: I wanted to note that it looks like Ladies Night ends after September. Â I'm sure they'll bring it back another time - at least I hope. Â So I recommend all ladies go tomorrow! Â I really wish I wasn't fighting a cold or I would!
The place is awesome! For the price point and what you get its a awesome restaurant. I went on my Dad's B-Day he got a free meal because it was his B-day yes FREE on your B-DAY!! Â
Its got a real nice ambiance to the restaurant. Its got a open layout with real nice touches throughout. Its only of those type of places where its nice but not soo high end that you need a suit and tie to feel comfortable at.
As far as dinner my dad got a nice piece of Prime Rib, it was on a Thursday so they had like a seafood special thats what I got. Mine came with 2 pieces of grilled fish, grilled shrimp and a crab cake for like $14.00-$15.00? but it was a ton of food! Nothing overly cooked which is tricky sometimes with grilled seafood. The crab cake was the standout on my plate nice and rich lots of crab. His prime rib was cooked med rare perfectly he really enjoyed his plate.
I been there like 3 times its been great each time my only complaint was desert I ordered the bread pudding one time was really unimpressive, but would definitely recommend this restaurant in a heart beat!... Â :)
We found Sterling Bistro quite by accident. Mother's Day is not the day to go to Red Lobster, but that is what Mom wanted. That is until we got there and were told it was and hour and a half wait. 1.5 hours with no place to sit down(Mom is handicapped) and I don't wait 1.5 hours at a chain restaurant with below average food. We decided to try Sterling Bistro since it was close and looked from the outside like a decent place.
Appearances are deceiving, this place is beyond decent, it very very nice. I expected a big bill for dinner for 5 of us, but not so, the prices are beyond reasonable for the upscale decor and the food.
Yes the food, the meat and potatoes of any review, it was excellent. Not a huge menu, but enough variety for everyone to find a few entrees that sounded good. And good it was. My daughter had the Whitefish, loved it. I had a Seafood dish that is not listed on the menu anymore, but was delicious, fish shrimp and cajun veggies in a light spicy sauce. I'm going to miss it. Hubby had the Wildberry Salmon and loved it. Mom and Dad both enjoyed the Rib Eye. All in all a pleasant dining experience, good food reasonable prices and excellent service.
My friends and I happened to be looking for a place to eat lunch when we found Sterling Bistro. Based off the Yelp reviews, we decided to have lunch. We were not disappointed. It was a late lunch around 2 pm so the restaurant was fairly empty. We were seated right away and our waitress was extremely friendly. I really enjoyed the retro bottles of water that were left at the table. The warm bread and marinara was also quite good. The four of us all ordered something different and we were all satisfied.
Review Source:Really struggled with what to rate this restaurant. Â My first time there for lunch the food and service were fantastic and this time for lunch either the server thought I can't read a menu and he could lie rather than admitting he made a mistake or they really need to coordinate changing over their menu all I know is the second lunch there makes me think I won't go back.
First time for lunch waiter brings out the fantastic bread we started with the meatball lollipops  that I'd heard so much about and they were delicious.  Then for my lunch I had the Prime Rib sliders and my sister ordered the Chicken Flatbread pizza.  When we got our entrees the presentation on my sliders was so cute I almost had to take a picture and the taste was out of this world.  The Chicken Flatbread pizza was also great and the taziki on the pizza was a great touch.  When I left all I could do was rave about how fantastic it was and how I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to go to any of the chains up and down Hall Road when this gem was nearby.
Today the second lunch, not great. Â No bread, okay no big deal I didn't need it anyways but it makes me wonder if either the restaurant or the server are cutting corners. Â Ordered the prime rib sliders and then said I'll start with the garden salad. Â The lunch menu I had clearly says that the sliders come with fries and a ginger slaw and that if you want a garden salad there is a $3 charge, no problem. Â Salad comes- fantastic garden salad with tons of carrots, nice mixture of lettuces in the salad instead of just romaine or horrible iceberg lettuce. Â Server brings out the sliders and it's just sliders, nothing else when I say I thought it comes with fries he says "they changed the menu and the fries only comes with the dinner." Â Who orders sliders for dinner there when there is wealth of amazing entrees for dinner? Â He comes out with some fries a few minutes later and says "we haven't rolled out the new menu so I brought you out some fries". Â Ya think since that is clearly what it says on the menu that I handed you less than one hour ago!! Â Forget even fighting about cole slaw, I consider it a waste of time. Â
I'm sure the food was good this time but I was so ticked at the service I just wanted to go and consider this trip a bust.  Once he did bring my check what do I see he charges me full price for the garden salad ($6 for a garden salad please). So either the restaurant needs to get their act together and coordinate changing over their menus so that servers are ringing up what is on the menu that is being passed out  or the server thinks I have no short term memory and forgot what I just read. If the server made a mistake then own up to it and the whole thing would have been fine and if the hostess passed out the wrong menu then what is the big deal in charging the customer for what they expected to pay for when they ordered.
All in all I couldn't go lower than a three star because the food is too delicious and different to knock it down lower because of what I consider bad service.  In my opinion this restaurant did deserve to be named one of the Best New Restaurants by the Free Press and it is really nice to be able to support good locally owned companies  but in the future I will think twice about going there for lunch or dinner.
Came here for father's day lunch. Â
Didn't know what to expect. Â I just wanted a Prime Rib. Â First off, it's a little dark in there. Â I get that's the mood they're trying to set, but man...it's one darker shade away from a blacklight rave. Â
So when you arrive, you get bread bites and tomato sauce. Â Really good and pretty different. Â I have to agree with Brent R. on this one. Â
We ordered the Goat Cheese Fondue, very good...I would've liked more chips with it, but very nice starter. Â
I ordered the prime rib and it was great...the Tiger Sauce, which is creamy horseradish is a nice alternative complement than just simple horseradish and also works well with the au jus. Â the Smashed Potatoes that came with were also great, and the vegetables were just the right small enough portion that it wouldn't throw off your meat attack. Â
The only thing I wish they did was probably offer alternative sides or just a list of side dishes so you can add to your entree. Â All of the entrees had fixed sides, so maybe some substitutions or something different offered would be a nice option. Â
But it is definitely a nice place and a nicer dining alternative than the chain restaurants around the Lakeside Mall area. Â Will definitely come back again and try some of the other dishes.
We have been coming here for quite a while now. Â Sometimes 3 or 4 in one month. Don't get me wrong, the food is quite good for the reasonable prices. Â However, the menu never changes and I realize there isn't much to chose from. Â They use the same sauces on different entrees. Â As well as the veggie/coleslaw. It would he nice to have a feature entree every now and again. Â Something different and new. Â Also, an older gentleman who is either the owner or the manager, walks around and greets people and its a shame he doesn't realize how often we frequent his establishment by recognizing us or at the very least say hello. Â Week by week, he always seems to bypass us. Â We have had the same waitress at least 3 times and she too doesn't seem to acknowledge us as regular customers and welcome us back. Â The only person who does so is the wonderful hostess at the door. Â For only two people, we always spend well over $150...cocktails, appetizers, entrees and take come dessert and a sizable tip. Â This will be the last time in a long time. I'd rather spend my money where my customer loyalty is appreciated. Â
The one star rating is based more on customer service but the lack of variety in the menu also doesn't help.
We LOVED Sterlings. I live very close to this restaurant and I had never tried it until recently. We have a group of 8 of us that go out somewhere new every month for dinner. This month we decided to try Sterling's, and we were NOT disappointed!
We all share dishes when we go so we can all try a little bit of everything, and I honestly enjoyed every dish I tried. All of the food/appetizers were delicious, and I'm definitely going to be going back!
Great place!
My oh my, I don't know why it took so long for my wife and I to go here! It is expensive but it sure is worth every penny we spent. I had the Prime Rib dinner, it had several shrimp with it and a great mashed potato with what I believe the server said was spinach and I really loved the whole meal. However my 4 year old daughter did not like her mac and cheese, but she sure did enjoy my Prime Rib and my wife's Chilean Sea Bass.
Review Source:Sterling's Bistro made my Couple's nite- out special. I had the roasted chicken and my wife had the white fish which was the Chef's recommendation, both were very well prepared. I'm sorry to say we did not get a chance to experience the dessert =-(
I would definitely recommend this place to family and friends.
I gotta hand it to the under the radar Sterling's Bistro, they beat my expectations for what you can get in the Lakeside Mall area.
The first thing I noticed was that they didn't bring the standard bread and butter to the table once you put in your order, they brought out warm bread bites to dip into a nice sweet tomato sauce. I really liked this as it felt like you were getting a little  more than just the same old thing.
The second thing I noticed is that they brought out the large bottle of water to fill your glasses and then left it on the table in case you wanted some more without having to flag down the server. This is something  I have seen at upscale places, it is a nice touch at Sterling's and definitely was something I noticed and made the experience even better.
On to the food...
I ordered the Prime Rib since I had read good things about it, it was very good and the au jus and horseradish sauce really topped it off. The (s)mashed potatoes that came with my dinner were just as good, perhaps even better than the prime rib, considering I am not a huge mashed potatoes fan. They had spinach mixed in and were slightly chunky, they were great. The squash that was served with the meal was also very good, lightly seasoned and not too mushy.
My wife ordered the scallops and lobster bisque soup. The bisque was one of the best I have had, even compared to seafood restaurants, it was the perfect amount of lobster and cream. Her scallops were pretty solid, they came with an almost crab cake-like topping on each one and it differentiated it from other scallops I have had before.
Bottom Line...
I REALLY like what Sterling's is doing, giving you great food without breaking the bank and making it feel like an upscale restaurant, even in the Lakeside Mall parking lot!
A huge improvement over the prior tenant, Bonefish Grille! Â Today was my first visit and every aspect from food to service was spot on.
My only concern is the long term viability of this establishment as the price point of this restaurant is not conducive to the the typical Macomb County budget.
I hope I'm wrong and look forward to my next meal there.
Went to Sterling's Bistro for Christmas Eve dinner. We were greeted and seated. Our server Kathleen C. was fantastic. I credit her for working Christmas Eve, she made the evening bright and cheerful.
My wife and I both had the Wild Berry Salmon with Fire Roasted Vegetables. Both were very tasty and we highly recommend the wild berry salmon.
What a nice place to visit.  Everything was great, from the hostess to the waitstaff to the food and price.  How nice to have another upscale restaurant in the northern macomb county area.  There are several things that impressed me.  First of all the decor is modern and gave an upscale feel.  We stopped and had a drink at the bar prior to heading into the dining room for dinner.  The bartender was very polite and  got our wine quickly at happy hour pricing.  We were then seated by a very nice hostess.  Looking over the menu you'll see a nice variety of choices at reasonable prices.
I had the filet and it was perfect. Â Everyone in our party thought their food was excellent. You need to give this place a try.
What an enjoyable evening. Â We will definately go back.
Delicious food in a simple, classy setting without any pretense.
I'm a big fan of Sterling's Bistro. Their menu is a dynamic cross-section of steakhouse standards comfort food classics and brewpub favorites. Their Chicken Pot Pie is one of the best meals I've eaten in recent memory, so definitely give it a try.
As if the food wasn't enough to rave about, the staff and atmosphere are even better. The host staff, servers and management are all friendly to the point where you'd suspect corrective shock collars were embedded in them.
Both the bar and dining room are tastefully decorated in local fare, but not in the gimmicky Applebee's-type way. I also like the idea of the water carafe at the table, so you don't have to bother your server (not like they'd make you feel like a bother) every time you want a refill.
Overall, Sterling's Bistro has carefully and thoroughly planned out every detail. Great food, great staff, great surroundings and surprisingly reasonable prices.
You will not be disappointed.
Thursday night.. Not to busy, great service, great execution of food and perfect wine with my filet. I know my wines to pick for food. So I picked an Australian Shiraz paired with Boursin stuffed med rare filet. The Morse Code Shiraz went well with the apple vinaigrette salad too. No flavors were conflicting, and the wine was smooth and nice body for a cheaper wine. I would definitely go again. Not on a weekend ever.
Review Source:Excellent food... great service... wonderful specialty cocktails. The atmosphere was great - love the romantic feeling the decor invokes. A little more expensive than the Olive Garden or Applebee's but completely worth it. My husband had the steak and I went for the sea bass. Both were cooked to perfection. I highly recommend the lobster bisque! Dinner for two plus alcohol ran us $80, but it was $80 well spent.
Review Source:Hands down *The* best restaurant in Macomb county.
Best service (especially in the bar area)
Best prices (for what you are served)
Best Food: every dish is thoughtfully executed and presented.
Think "somewhere between J. Alexander's and Capital Grille, with the prices of an Olive Garden".
Amazing martinis and they are very reasonably priced.
If there is a better 'date night' restaurant in the area, I haven't seen it.
The decor is upscale without being pretentious.
Great happy hour specials, as well.
Try Sterling's. Â
They understand what it takes to establish yourself far above the norm.
I have paid 2-3 times more for meals that aren't half as memorable.
Try the goat cheese fondue, the scallops or the short rib.
Freaking amazing!
Went here on a whim because andiamo's was a hour+ wait!!
Our server was friendly and always had our water filled. He also had no problem modifying our food to our liking.
My boyfriend and I got the special of the day for $12.99. We got the seafood trio which included whitefish, crab cake (which were AWESOME with some tasty slaw on top of them) and shrimp done a couple different ways. It has a delicious sauce on top of it.
I am a huge water drinker so I thought it was a cute little touch that they give you your own water bottle to pour from.
The atmosphere was really great also!
After reading the good reviews for this place we decided to try it. The food and service was completely amazing....especially for the area. Our waiter was Jerry and was the best waiter we've ever had. The management should feel lucky to have found this guy & I hope they treat him well.
We started off with the artichoke dip which was very good. We then had the lobster bisque and french onion soup both  were excellent. Now to the best part...the miso glazed Sea Bass. This dish is simply perfect! My husband ordered the prime rib but kept trying to eat off my plate. It was the best piece of fish either of us have ever had. We've been to most of the top places in the metro area and this meal is close to the top. We finished off with the raspberry creme brulee also very good. The only complaint I have is that the menu is small and does not offer enough shellfish, but that's just my personal favorite. Anyway, I hope to return soon and wish this place lots of luck.
tl;dr
They should take some stars away from other places and let this one have ten. Ten stars. Ten.
Food:
To me, the most important thing about a restaurant is the food. Â After all, good service, great atmosphere and a good price doesn't go far if the chef takes a crap on the plate.
This place nailed it in every way. Â Local joint's don't usually get "presentation". Â The food presentation was on par with any exceptionally expensive five star black-tie smug $350 steak house. Â The food quality was on par with the presentation. Â The quantity of food was excellent. Â The price was barking unbelievable when stacked against these factors.
This was a surprise, especially after having an explanation of what a "Mash of the Day" is, and precisely what said "Mash of the Day" contained. They managed to mash up a bunch of vegetables that seemed like they should never be put together on the same plate, let alone pasted together with potatoes, and on top of that, make me love it.
I ordered a chef special, Filet with Maine Lobster on top. Â I broke rule #5 of eating like a man. Â I call this the "Don't screw with my steak" rule and it goes something like this: When I purchase a filet, I want a tender, rare, nice filet with no sauce or silliness accompanying it. Â I bought the filet because I wanted to taste a recently slaughtered COW, nothing else. Â I want it fresh. Â I want it rare. Â And I don't want the chef to screw with it with some sort of creativity learned in some french academy. Â It's steak. Â I'm a man. Â Don't try to improve it with sauce.
So when I saw the sauce that I couldn't identify, and the lobster lumped on top, despite the wonderful presentation, a part of me cursed myself for having ordered it knowing full well what I would receive. Â Then I took a bite. Â This was one of the best tasting things to ever be put on a plate. Â I ordered the steak rare because I'm an animal rights advocate. I'm going to eat that cow, but it should be alive enough to get the opportunity to taste me, too. Â It's only fair. Â It was seared perfectly, yet the center was exactly right for a rare steak (essentially, red, bloody, raw, delicious). It was easily in the top 5 of the best things I have ever eaten.
Atmosphere:
It's a bit loud when their busy. The layout of the restaurant won't lend itself greatly to an intimate evening out with your bride if you're looking for a quiet place where you feel like you should be whispering. Â It was a pretty typical noise level. I wondered before my bride and I embarked on our journey if we could ever take our kids to this place. After going there, I'd be comfortable taking my children and many folks did, in fact, have their children there.
Service:
We had been waited on by a very new waitress. Â She didn't have all of the "technique" down. Â This was only noticed because the food was so good, it seemed like we should have received the service you'd get at a place where dinner for two ends up in the $350 price range. Â Despite not being perfect at technique, she was incredibly friendly and attentive. Â She was there to refill our glasses of wine when they were low. Â She checked in on us from time to time to make sure we were enjoying our meal. Â In a way, it was almost a quirk of the place. Â When you get the "high on technique" wait-staff, it's can cut both ways and make the experience impersonal.
In addition, the manager (or perhaps owner?) came by to check in on us a few times. Â This was a nice touch.
Drinks:
I like a small wine list that only has "good wine" (as in, wine I can't just go pick up at Rite-Aid for 1/4 the price). I prefer this approach because I'm *not* a wine snob (I buy wine at Rite-Aid). I know a few names here and there, but if you give me a book with three hundred wines, I'm going to look for the one that is the second least expensive and buy it. Â They had a wine I recognized from one of the other steak houses (that $350 dinner place), at half the price I paid for it there. It was wonderful.
After dinner, my bride opted to get dessert (which was awesome). Â I'm not a dessert guy and I wasn't driving, so I opted for an after dinner drink. Â My drink of choice is always B&B. Â The bartender didn't know what that was (is it really that obscure? I've ordered a B&B at a Japanese steak house where the staff barely spoke English and they had it). Â That was disappointing, however, it was made up for by the fact that the bartender was knowledgeable about the products they did carry. Â I described the flavor, she pulled out a shot glass and poured a few drops of something into it to sample and I was satisfied. Â It wasn't B&B, but it was the next best thing.
