I am ridiculously excited about Sultan Cafe & Bakery. Â A Middle Eastern restaurant in Griffith, IN!! Â This is progress, people. Â There's actually some ethnic food available in G-town (well, aside from Mexican) and it's really, REALLY great!
My step-dad has been raving about this place, so he, Justin and I visited Sultan on Saturday evening. Â I was pleased to see most of the tables filled in this new place! Â We were warmly greeted and promptly served fresh baked pita from their bakery with sides of hummus and baba ghanouj. Â So, so good! Â I had a falafel sandwich with an Israeli salad, Justin had a lamb dish and my step-dad had a beef dish--everything was excellent, nicely prepared, well-seasoned and delicious. Â I'm looking forward to heading back to try their shawerma, tabbouleh and kebabs and some of their Middle Eastern dessert options. Â
Their bakery/grocery is right off the dining room and offers their pita and other baked goods, in addition to a nice selection of Middle Eastern ingredients from tahini and seasonings to bags of imported rice, cracked wheat and fava beans (and much more!). Â Hookahs and shisha (flavored tobacco) are also available for purchase or you can order from the menu and smoke it up in the dining room after 7pm. Â I'm not a fan of the smoking in the dining room, but it wasn't too much of a bother when we were there.
I loved the food, I loved the friendly owner, I even loved the table of older smoking gentlemen who appeared to be watching over the place the whole time. Â Visit Sultan Cafe and help keep a great new restaurant in business so I can get my falafel on in Griffith!
