Their menu seems to have shrunk for the summer....?
However, that being said the food was still, super amazing!
We ordered the cheeseburger and the barbecue salad....the dressing (a BBQ infused ranch with heavy garlic) was SOOO good! The burger was a med well....also super good....and people watching is always very nice at such a nice place!
Food was so good and service from Allie (sp) was top! We liked our server so much and she was so awesome with our princess, we decided to order another burger and a dog....
Arrived 11am and stayed until 3pm...
Awesome place....
When you want to escape our Arizona heat, this is a great place to go.  We got there just in time to get a table at this busy little patio bar.  Coronado is a pricy little place so our drinks and lunch cost more than they would have somewhere else.  But it is what it is and we knew it  before we even stepped foot on the deck. Price aside this is a fun spot.  I love the seating areas and they had pretty good live entertainment.  The  food was so-so but again the atmosphere was wonderful.  It's location, location, location for this venue.
Review Source:The Hotel Del's Sun Deck Bar and Grill is absolutely amazing! Being locals, we go to the Sun Deck and pretend like we're tourists. It's such a pretty location that we just imagine that we're in Tahiti or some other faraway place.
The Deck generally has service for a noted portion of the Deck. Sitting beyond the serviced tables, you're on your own. However, the bartenders up at the bar are super friendly!
A few of the tables have nice little fire pits, which just add to the comfortable ambiance of the Sun Deck.
A few of us Yelpers decoded to visit Coronado Island after getting sloshed at Balboa Park. Â Don't worry, we all piled into a cab. Â Upon arrive at the Hotel del we of course needed to get more booze in our hands. Â Let me tell you. Â The bartendress, a middle-aged-esque blonde woman, was NOT happy to be there.
This was Christmas time, for goodness' sake! Â Don't you want your tips, girrrrrrl? Â It's the holidays. Â Be cheery, be merry, and gosh darn it laugh at my stupid jokes.
The deck was very pleasant, what with the private seating and fire pits open to the public. Â I'm sure you have to purchase alcohol at the bar to sit there... Well, I'm not sure. Â But that doesn't really matter because we did.
Patrons are allowed to smoke on the deck, even though there aren't any ash trays. Â Fret not, go to the Sun Deck Bar and Grill staff and ask for a cup with a little bit of water in it. Â Come on, you can't just ash all over the place and throw you butt on the carpeted ground. Â Come on. Â You just can't.
Shuts at sunset even though the place was packed. Beautiful setting and service was ok. We made it to last call (~5pm) and were able to get a glass of wine and a "some like it hot" drink. One of the lava rocks fire was out and no one came to change the propane tank. The bar was packed and no tables were available
Review Source:This is a great place to have lunch right on the beach and to really soak in the feeling of being in Southern California!
My boyfriend and I brought his mom (from the east coast) here for lunch and we sat out on the deck enjoying sandwiches and sunshine. The food was good although a bit pricey. There was plenty of seating and even though the resort seemed pretty crowded we didn't have to wait for a table on a weekend day.
I went up to buy a drink at the bar. Tina ignored me and waited on four other individuals that came to the bar after me. She saw me but I waited to see how long it would take before she got to me. I waited about 20 minutes then she asked me for my order and did not card me nor smiled nor apologized. Horrible service towards me but friendly towards room guests. It was about 2020 minutes ago and I was the young one dressed in a black tank n black shorts. Check your video and your employee.
Review Source:Great place to relax and grab a drink while visiting Coronado. Â The prices here are quite hefty but then again it's located at the Hotel Del Coronado. Â I think the burgers and sandwiches are about $15 each and the beer is $7. My wife and I usually split a burger and have a drink while enjoying views of the beach.
Review Source:4 stars for the lovely outdoor seating area right on Coronado Beach.
1 star for the "service" particularly our "server" Ben.
I'm torn because I love the outdoor deck that offers plenty of seating and lounges overlooking Coronado Beach. Â However, aside from the food and drinks being pricey (it is Coronado after all), knowing where to sit, where to place your order, etc can be confusing...
Upon walking in there is no host so the assumption is to seat yourself. There's an outdoor bar and a walk up window for you to place orders and signs encouraging patrons to do so. My boyfriend ordered our food at the window and so I found an open table close to the walk up window. Ben, the server, comes up and asks if I'd like to see a menu. I tell him no thank you as we've already ordered at the window. Imagine my surprise  when he goes from semi-personable to semi-annoyed telling me this area is full service and abruptly leaves. Never once did he come by to see how we were doing or if we needed anything else, which I didn't expect him to. However, it was clearly obvious that he was giving us the cold shoulder avoiding our table like the plague.
Clearly this confusion on whether to order at the bar and/or food window OR place the orders with a server is a common thing, because 2 other parties sat nearby and also told Ben they had ordered drinks and food on their own. He gave the cold shoulder to 1 group who already had their food and drinks at the table; while he tried persuading the other party who were still in line at the window and bar to come back and just order from him. They didn't want to and he too ignored them. I was disgusted, if this is a full service area there should be definite signs informing patrons of this as opposed to signs encouraging patrons to place orders at the bar and window on their own.
Other than Ben, Â the atmosphere was great, the weather was awesome, and the food while pricey was tasy and filling. The boyfriend had the burger w/ fries ($15) I had the chicken sandwich w/ kettle chips ($15). Â We also had 2 beers ($8 each).
However, that visit is my last visit to this eatery.
I'm a fan of it's VIEW! Absolutely breathtaking! However, the food and drinks are overpriced of course. Expect to pay about $15 a burger and $10 for a little dinky size mimosa cup. Service is okay but certain tables are self service only. They do have very nice lounging areas with a little fire thing in the middle and lounging sofas.
Review Source:Nice stroll into the Hotel del Coronado Sun Deck Bar and Grill. A lot of seating with umbrellas and a nice view of the ocean. (Not the cleanest beach)
The bartender was a little slow. It took about 15 minutes and counting to get my drink. It didn't look complicated as people were ordering beers and a couple mixed drinks. Â In my opinion, he is just not cut out to be a bartender. Â There were only 6 of us in line and I was the third person but he was just too slow.
Other than that nice scenery, relaxed environment and mellow people hanging out.
**They also serve food but this review is for the bar only.
having a drink here is a quintessential san diego experience. Â drinks are outrageously priced, but you're paying for the view, and it's worth it for an occasional afternoon drink or two. Â definitely a 'wow' factor involved here. Â they have several fireplaces throughout the place, with seating for quite a few people around each one.
also, it's worth an attempt to pass the Del and look for a free parking spot on the very next street. Â just a short stroll on a path from the end of this street to the sun deck.
The Sun Deck Bar and Grill has a beautiful setting. Especially when it's sunny at 75!
Service is slow. Drinks are WAY over priced. But it is a nice place to sit and watch the waves and admire the hotel for sure!
I had a mai thai which was around 8oz and it was certainly not worth the money I paid.
I would go back, but simply to hang out and possibly walk the beach. It's too over-priced to eat/drink here.
See and be seen
The Del's Sun Deck Bar and Grill is a great spot to sunbath and relax if you are not a hotel guest. Most tables and lounge areas offer an unrestricted ocean view over Coronado beach where you can watch people walking the promenade.
The deck is a self-service area with two beach huts, one for drinks and one for food. Although affordable compared to the other hotel offers some might have a different opinion. An Iced Tea is available for $5 incl. tax, without tip, long drinks and cocktails for around $15, and sandwiches or wraps for $8-13. The quality is ok for fast food but far from outstanding.
However, the view is beautiful and a perfect spot to chill if you are around.
+ Nice vantage point over Coronado Beach, especially during the afternoon/sunset
+ Lounge furniture
- A bit overpriced
- Food is only average
Good food, but drinks are a tad bit over priced. Â Guess it was to be expected sitting on a deck over looking the beach while the breeze sifts through your hair and the sun about to set....sign! Â
I needed my burger fix just as I jumped on deck. Â I ordered me the "white" burger -- the meat itself was done right, but too much -- or I should say damn hold off on the cheese man! Â I need to watch my girlish figure! Â Along with the burgers of course are your fries, which was actually very good and crispy. Â I ordered a mojito shortly ($13.50) -- Ouch!
Food was decent, but the view and the atmosphere really sold me. - Enjoy!
Just another friday morning. Another bloody mary. Drink are the typical price range of $14 on a hotel rate. They have two different sections here, self serve (the tables without condiments on them) and service tables.
I just stopped by to get a drink before my semi long drive to San Clemente. The bloody mary was exellent! Instead of a celery stick, you get pickled greens beans. YUM!!! Instant five star for that. I was thoroughly impressed with the creativity.
This review is for the drinks only. I have not ordered food here and I always sit in the self serve section.
This place redeemed itself in my eyes. My first visit here I ordered the muddy mojito which sounded amazing for a rum and mojito lover like myself. BLECH is all I have to say to that. It was way over priced and didn't even come within the same solar system as a mojito.
I found myself back here a few weeks later, to my dismay, because everyone else loved the views. They all agreed it was WAY to pricey but the view couldn't be beat. This time though I ordered an Island Breeze and I was in heaven. The drink was strong and not too sweet just the way I like it. It was pricey still but worth it in my mind this time.
My final thoughts on this place are: Make sure you pick the right kinda drink, it is still over priced, the views are amazing, and I would go back again now that I know what to order. I would give this place between 3 and 4 stars but I am feeling generous so I am giving it 4 (because you can't give a 3.75 on yelp).
"Nibblin' on sponge cake, watchin' the sun bake all of the tourists covered with oil... " Okay, there wasn't any sponge cake but you get the picture. Â Just as I was debating what to drink the band kicked in with the classic Jimmy Buffett song. Â Decision made.
Margaritas are muy cara ($13 - 14.50) and served in plastic cups by overtaxed servers.  But they are pretty big if not spectacular  -- and would you expect any different from a bona fide tourist mecca like the Hotel Del?  Anyway we are here for the scene and we got that in spades.  Warm Saturday afternoon with the band playing all the mellow rock of the 70s (two songs by America... CSN, and of course, the Eagles' Hotel California).  Gorgeous sunny beach and happy tourists drinking rum and tequila, iced teas and lite beers.
Aside from breaking the bank on a round of cocktails the only serious downside to this place is the slow service on a busy day. Â But if you came here in a hurry you've probably got the wrong attitude in the first place. Â You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.
Location location location!!!
Each time I'm at Hotel del Coronado, I make it a point to have a drizzle here, while gazing at the beach, ocean & sunset. Order at the bar & seat yourself. They have fire pits for cool nights. Expect to pay $12-15 per cocktail. It would probably cost me nearly $60 to get buzzed. So if drinking is the goal, I would not recommend this place. However, if conversating with a beautiful background view while having something to sip is your agenda, then this is the place!
3 stars since the drinks are unworthy of their price tags.
4 stars since I'm a sucker for the location & will continue to return.
Well, Â this is as good as it gets on a hot Saturday or Sunday afternoon. You can relax near one of the many fire pits or you can relax and stare out at the beautiful view off off the deck.
Service can be a little slow when they are getting rocked by the tourists. Overall thought they do there best to make you happy.
I went here on a Friday afternoon to grab a drink and enjoy some sunny weather, which I was lucky enough to have considering the recent rains! We got a wonderful seat right next the the plexi-glass over looking the ocean and Point Loma. I had forgotten how beautiful it is here!
We had a great waitress who was serving a ton of tables, but did a great job!! The drinks were great, as was the snack we ordered of french fries. Our waitress even noticed when we asked if one of the male wait staff would turn on the fire pit. He tried, but couldn't get it to work, and went to see if there was another propane tank for the table. So our waitress came over, turned on the gas(which was simply switched off) and it worked just fine. Â Funny.
I am giving 4 stars simply for the cost. It's a beautiful place, but is just a bit too pricey!
No happy hour here, but that's cool because your out on the weather deck and if you're lucky to get a seat towards the front near the beach, you get the best views of the sunset, and Point Loma from a distance.
Got me the Orange Ave Wit beer made by Coronado Brewing Co. Reminded me of Blue Moon (fan) but left this weird bitter after taste. So ultimately I'll have to pass on future Orange Ave Wit beer. Â But that's ok, I just sat down relaxed, sipped on my Orange beer and just gazed at the beach, saw some random helo's doing their exercises, swimmers, the stars, the sound of the waves, and people taking pictures and so forth.
And unlike the other wooden decked places like PB, Â the Sun Deck doesn't have that weird fish, feet, and ass smell that comes along with it. Just the smell of freshness from incoming sea breezes...oh and that $8 orange beer had some cool smell too.
Tip: Although the address is right, 1500 Orange Ave., the embedded map in Yelp will make you believe it is located by the street. Actually located on the beach side at the Hotel Del.
My wife and I renewed our vows in Coronado, by the beach, so we decided to have a small get together with friends and family, my wife got in touch with management beforehand to make the necessary arrangements and when the day came our bills were all screwed up, the waiter was asking my guests every 10 minutes how they would like to pay and who was paying, they actually had one of them go inside the hotel and get cash out of the ATM because they could not split the bill they messed up in the first place.
When we contacted the manager, a couple of days after our renewal, she apologized and said she will send us a gift card, this was in late July, and nothing yet
It was not the first time I was there but it was definitely the last one.
Horrible service on our special day. Never coming back!
Mediocre food. Great view, so +1 star = A-Ok experience.
Perched close to the beach and Hotel del Coronado, it offers friendly (altho a little slow) service & live music.
For lunch we had, Chicken sandwich, footlong hotdog, a burger, and some chili cheese fries + nachos, which all turned out to be quite too average.
Not much of a selection either--I guess it's more for the view, ambiance, and cool drinks that you'd visit this place.
Other Yelpers have posted that the food is over priced but duh! Your in Coronado. Expect to pay a little more money. If you can't afford it then go to PB. Your paying for the ambiance and I will pay it for this little piece of paradise.
Service is a little slow due to the crowd but don't let that keep you away. Who can complain while sipping mojito's and wine while at the beach on a sunny San Diego day?
We enjoyed the live music on the deck while being served lunch. We are so spoiled here! Great atmosphere and everyone is so friendly. It does get busy so we ended up having some random people join our table so they could enjoy the festivities.
As expected of hotel fast food, over priced and barely edible. Â
Quick tip: kid menu burger is your safe and best bet. Â At $8, it's a straight forward patty and bun, fries and fountain drills drink. Â
Add $1 for shredded mozzarella cheese (bf didn't like them but they come with adult burgers $13). Â Chili cheese fries are lame. Caters to the affluent white 1st class families and spoiled children.
Nonetheless, it's nice to be out on the deck on a sunny day (something you'd never complain about in Seattle). Â This is the fast food option so it's also relatively cheap. Â Looks out to the beach and easy access to it.
You don't come here for the food...you come for a drink, the setting, and a killer view. Don't miss the sunset. And, yes, you pay for it. If you must eat, lower your expectations and increase your budget. If you need more for your money, come in summer and listen to Ron's Garage - a great local cover band - play for free.
Review Source:Lovely.
Drinks are pricey!!! but you have a nice view of the ocean and the sunset.
Drinks are delicious yet potent (the Island Breeze for example) but at around $13-$16 you better sip extremely slow to avoid having to buy too many drinks before the sun goes down :)
If the weather is nice, this is a perfect spot to set up shop with friends while taking a break from the beach a few feet away.
Went to The Del for dinner and drinks with out of towm guests and decided on the Sun Deck. Â It's a great location but definitely a but overpriced, I guess you're paying extra for the location so it's worth it. Â What we had: Burger (status quo) Pulled Pork Sandwich (ok) and the Chicken Sandwich (great!)...they all came with "House Made Chips" Â that could have been great if they were fresh but weren't as crisp I think due to the humidity at the beach location. Â Drinks were PRICEY, $11 for wine/bubbly an up too $15 for a cocktail, again location, location, location. Â My biggest gripe...once the sun went down there was NO lighting...we were eating in the dark, one of my biggest food pet peeves.
Review Source:Mwahaha! I get to be the first to review and expose your crappiness, o' $15 Burger of Deception. No longer will others be fooled into thinking, "Wow, that burger is $15. That must mean because I'm paying more that it's really good!" No, only *I'm* the one stupid enough to think of that, so let my experience save you from the misery!
It sucked.
$15 burgers come with $15 expectations. At that price, it should be orgasmic, but in actuality it was more like a papercut.
Oh, and what's up with the ordering window? Why do you make me stoop so low just to talk to you and see your nostrils?
