    I've had this place bookmarked for quite a while and finally made it out last week for dinner. We walked in the door at 6:00pm and the place was completely empty. I had to double check my Yelp app to make sure we were in the right place that had so many good reviews. We ordered some guac and chips for a starter and an order of the cheese enchiladas and beef fajitas. The guac was not great. It was a small portion, there was mystery brown in the guac, and tasted like plain avocado. Fortunately they have a salsa bar and we were able to snag some limes, etc. to make it more edible. The chips were dripping grease, which also isn't so appealing. The entrees were much better. The red sauce on the enchiladas was delicious (it was almost like a mole) and the rice and beans were also tasty. Since this place is so close to our house, we'll probably be back, but we'll skip the chips & guac next time!

    Taqueria El Trompito the one located at 10021 E Hampden Ave, I like, still like you and still a fan to you.  WooT!!  WooT!!

    Was here on Tuesday September 18th 2012 with a couple of my foodie friends for a 18:30hrs Dinner.  I made a reservation prior that evening a couple of weeks before the event.

    When I arrived, thankfully our seating arragement are all set for our party.

    From what I could recall these were the items I ordered periodically so I can eat them at my own pace and since I dont like the Tacos to be cold.

    Time : 18:39hrs
    Order #72
    *  1 Taco De Barbacoa ($2.00)
    *  1 Taco de Tripa ($2.00)
    *  1 Jumex de Guava (as part of beverage purchase) ($1.25)

    Hmmmmm.... Tacos...  Definitely Taco Heaven... I whisper...

    With the condiments of spicy salsa, jalapenos availabe for your liking, Self-Service Counter aka SALSA BAR, you can put those condiments to your food purchase.

    Time : 18:56hrs
    Order #76
    *  1 Tacos de Borrego ($2.00)
    *  1 Tacos de Lengua ($2.00)

    I like all the 4 Tacos I had that evening.  All the meats are cooked to my liking, the meats are tender and the spicy salsa are refreshing with the "habanero" one the MOST SPICY salsa, which I like, like alot!  If only I could have the recipe of those SPICY Salsas.....

    I so wish next time they can offer some other kind of meats which I have been eyeing, but the lady who took my order mentioned they did not offer those meats that evening.  Oh well...  *Sad Face*

    Time : 19:31hrs
    Order #83
    I purchase a Burrito Supreme ($7.00) TO GO for Hubs.  Hubs like it though he rate it only as 3.5 stars coz he prefers another establishment Burrito Supreme better.

    This establishment was kept clean, that includes the ladies washroom which I get the chance to use that evening.  My foodie friends like what they order that evening too.  I dont mind returning to Taqueria El Trompito, the one located at 10021 E Hampden Ave when needed.  All in all, a pleasant dinner evening with my foodie friends.  I like.....

    Oohh before I leave this establishment, the lady behind the counter, I think she might be the owner gave me a "punch card" of the establishment, and if I am not mistaken, I will get my next meal for "FREE".  We shall see.

    Hola mis amigos!
    Let's talk Mexican: well, tacos technically, this place is good! The lengua (beef tongue), cabeza (beef "head") tacos are yum! Please note that its just tortilla and the meat plus one has access to the salsa bar which is pretty well stocked!
    They were open till 3am on Friday! (yay in my book)
    The Carne Asada was just ok so stick to tacos and tortas.
    The kitchen is open to ones view and is pretty clean. They have a decent variety of Mexican sodas and friendly folks behind the register who are always willing to make your meal just right.
    Check them out amigos! You will like it!

    Wow, i love this place!  Such a unique treat in the middle of such a unremarkable strip mall.  Lots of things to try besides Tacos, for example the Pombazo (see pictures)!  Yummm, before this day i didn't even know what a Pombazo was, now it's one of my favorite sandwiches.  The tacos themselves are $2 a piece but are definitely worth it in size and quality.  I will be back here many times to try the rest of their titillating menu.

    Yes! The chicken mole verde tacos were yummy! My boyfriend had shredded beef tacos and they were great as well. $12.95 for four tacos and two fountain sodas. We would go back again.

    The food is awesome the only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is the customer service. The cashier actually gave me a dirty look when I changed my mind on the dessert I wanted, other than that the food is great.

    Take out is very slow. I had a sandwich and once I did get it I found it to be delicious.

    We were looking for street tacos or their sit down equivalent.  This was not it.  Salsa bar was fun, but after having a great authentic taco earlier in the day...this place did not do it for me.  No beer probably didn't help either.
    Pretty boring overall.

    YES go here. Do yourself a favor and go here NOW.
    (and since you are especially curious, here's the review..)

    I'm trying to do my Yelpers a favor and eat my way through the menu, but I can't stop coming back to the big hits below. Just know that on top of having great food... the place is immaculate and the lady who owns the place is super friendly and helpful if you are being indecisive (which often I am because everything here sounds so good.)
    Here's my " best of" list:
    TACOS:
    Mole Verde- juicy succlulent chicken all herby,spicy &green- I can't stop eating these.
    Mole Oaxaqueno - spicy and  sweet, a dance for your taste buds.
    I'm still dying to try the cochinita pibil- I can't seem to time it right!
    TORTA: "the Trompitorta" marinated roasted pork, ham, Oaxaca cheese,beans, lettuce, tomatoes,onion avocado, mayo, & jalapenos. This is the sandwich dreams are made of.

    heard enough yet?

    ..just go.

    Ate here for the first time yesterday and knew the moment I walked in that this was going to be a special meal. It is authentic Mexican. --- to me the best outside of Mexico. Place is super clean and simple decor but comfortable. I was a bit intimidated by the menu --- only because it all looked so delicious and I didn't know what to order. Fortunately the restaurant is close to home and I can go when the mood hits me. For my first meal I decided on tacos. I ordered 4 but got five. The pollo asado tacos were good, but the tacos pastor, the carnitas were mich better. My favorite though Taco De Albinal. My son has the carne asada plate which wasn't what he expected but still quite good. The corn tortillas were fresh as everything else. Loved the salsa bar too. Probably will be there tomorrow and bring others for their first visit.

    This was the second stop on the 5/19 Taco tour.  I thought, overall, this place was just okay.  Although the salsa/condiment bar was quite good, my tacos were less so.  The al pastor was not flavorful or exciting.  The carnitas was rather odd.  I picked up a porky flavor that I did not particularly enjoy.  It could be that I am used to a more "roast pork" flavor for carnitas and this seemed more medium/medium-rare.  The horchata tasted fine, but was a bit pricey for a small serving.

    This has to be my new favorite taco joint in the Denver area. I've been here many times to stuff my face with their delicious tacos. While their other dishes do look tasty, I just can't pass up their enormous taco selection. My review is based solely on the tacos and my experience at the restaurant.

    The place is large and could easily accommodate a large group of people. It's super clean and the staff is very friendly, so don't be shy and walk right up and have a look at their slightly overwhelming menu.

    As I mentioned before, I've only had the tacos here, but they have more varieties than any other taco place I've been to in town. They have it all. Here are a few to get your taste buds fired up: Tacos de Albañil,  Borrego, Cabeza, Mole, Pancita de Borrego, Lengua, Suadero, Carne Assada, Tacos al Pastor, Barbacoa, Carnitas and the list goes on. In the middle of the room they have a wonderful salsa bar with everything you'd want to see plus some extras I haven't seen at other taco joints.

    I always look forward to going to Taqueria El Trompito. And maybe one day I'll make it past the tacos.
    Writing this review has made me hungry. Looks like another taco run is in my near future.

    Second stop on the taco tour was Taqueria El Trompito.  Ten of us ventured on in and perused the menu.  Since we had already stuffed our faces at the first stop most of us opted for one or more of the $2 tacos.  I opted for three so I could try a variety, the pastor, there was a pork one, and then one other.  My memory is fading for the moment.

    I was especially pleased to see the salsa bar with radish, lime wedges, lettuce, onion, cilantro, a variety of salsas, and the like.  This was a nice addition so I could make my taco's exactly how I like them.  The taco's were good, I would say good not great.  With that said, I do want to come back and try some of their other menu items in the near future to broaden my horizons.

    I am a fan, but it's so far from me...
    So many options from $2 tacos to full plates. I loved the salsa bar with all sorts of toppings and sauces to pick from. I got the Pastor which I thought typically has pineapple, but this one didn't. And I got the barbaccoa lamb- that was really tasty.
    Really friendly staff and a clean restaurant, bathrooms too.

    I ate here 5 times  in 3 days.
    I love the variety.
    Try the pork, you will love it.
    The salsa bar has a nice selection of salsa and condiments including whole grilled chili.

    Decided to stop by for breakfast and check this place out today, see what the new ownership had switched in the last 2 months.

    What a great surprise! Not much for breakfast offerings, but they did have some other very uncommon dishes and meat choices as noted by other yelpers. I had the menudo, which was some of the best I've ever had in Colorado. Wife had a torta that was huge, and packed full of delicious barbacoa. We also got 2 tacos of asada to test the waters on what we would have on our next visit, the asada was a bit on the dry side and when double wrapped in tortillas made for a really dry taco. With all the other great choices I'm sure I'm sure I won't have a hard time finding something to throw in my taco that I'll love. The salsa bar also helps with some pretty cool condiments and salsas as well as your regular pico, cilantro, limes etc.

    Overall not much breakfast, didn't see anything for coffee anywhere, but great traditional Mexican food, and the makeover looks great. Will be back!

    Looking for some great head?  Not that kind of head, pervert!  I'm talking some of the best tacos de cabeza in town.  While cabeza literally translates as head, it isn't as scary as it sounds.  Their cabeza comes juicy, beefy, tender and incredibly flavorful, with not too much of the wiggly bits.  But the real story with El Trompito Taqueria is their endless menu of taco meats.  They have 25 different meat options including cochinita pibil, chicharron, cuerito, tripa, pancita de Borrego, and mole oaxaqueno...just to name a few.  All tacos come layered with two tortillas and served as a blank canvass that you get to artistically perfect at their lovely salsa and condiment bar.  Unfortunately, they only serve two kinds of salsa, which are good, but only come in really hot (green) and really extra hot (red).  The condiment selection is very nice, with cilantro, lime, onion, pickled onion, jalapenos, radishes, carrots and more.

    As for the quality of food, it varies.  I did not like my taco de chuleta because the meat was well overdone, but their cabeza and lengua tacos were outstanding.  Their lengua tacos come with big chunks of tongue, perfectly tenderized and full of beefy flavor.  I also sampled Claires mole Oaxaqueno tacos which I can only describe as okay.  If tacos aren't your thing (what's your problem?), rest assured that Trompito offers an extensive menu of other items like tortas, huaraches, caldos and more.  The space is wonderful, colorful and brightly lit and the staff is super friendly.  Come with some key Spanish phrases and a sense of adventure.

    Finally, I must mention that David S. (not that one, the one that likes the good football team) recommended this place to me.  I take David's recommendations seriously because he is a man that knows how to eat a taco.  That said I would not rate this as this best taco in Denver.  It is easily in the top 5, but not the best.  Therefore, in accordance with his own review, David S. owes me dinner.

    I have probably eaten here six times since they first opened last month.  Trompito serves a truly Mexico City style menu, from their tacos, tortas, and my favorite non-taco item, the Pambazo.

    I have eaten in most of the well-known, and many lesser-known, taco places in Denver.  I have forgotten about them all.  This is the best taqueria in Denver, hands down.

    With more meat choices (including two types of lamb, two flavors of chicharron, poblanos con crema, buche, lengua, pastor, suadero, pollo, cabeza, asada, etc.) than you can shake a stick at, handmade tortillas doubled-up on all tacos, and great sopes, gorditas, etc., I am not sure why I would ever stray from my new love.

    If you love a good taco, I mean, a REALLY good taco, this is the place to go.  If you do not agree that this is the best taco in Denver, I will buy your dinner.  If you do agree, you will owe me dinner.
