The real housewives of Delaware county meets home depot sand with a deck thrown in for good measure.
A good time - just give in to the fact that you're on a deck type thing with some sand, picnic tables, patio furniture and folding chairs thrown in for good measure.
That being said, if you're the kind of person who this type of vibe bothers....well, then this ISN'T your place. Â I used to work at the old KatManDu on Delaware Ave in college back in the day...this spot kind of reminds me of KatManDu's embarrassing little sister.
Its  got a great view - RIGHT on the water at the Ridley Municipal Marina, there was a live band (apparently on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays) that plays in a makeshift garage barn type thing.  Didn't get to sample the food, menu looked  decent - they DEFINITELY take the "Key West" thing to the max here.  Service was super friendly; crowd was mostly 40-45+ and fun.
Not at ALL a bad way to spend a nice day...Just a great location, relaxed vibe...I'll take it on a sunny Saturday afternoon!
Wow, it's hard to describe just how underwhelming everything was. Â After reading all the 4/5 star reviews, I had such high hopes.
As you walk in, there is a hostess counter, which was basically abandoned.
So, I walk toward the bar and see this sandy beach like area with seating. Â So, i pick a table and sit down.
I wait, and wait, and wait. Â There is no less than 4 waitresses, 1 busser and 2 bartenders working. Â Although the bar is full, there are only 5 occupied tables.
I wait, and wait. Â 3 different waittresses walk right by me and do nothing.
After 10 mins I go up to the bar. Â The bartender has this attitude that its like some major hassle to serve me.
I order a Rum and Coke...and out comes the measuring cup. Â Whenever I see a bartender use a measuring cup, its almost always a sign that you are about to get very weak drink.. Â True to form, the drink was very weak.
Next, I order a burger with cheese amd chili. Â It was so bland and underseasoned. Â Did I say "underdeasoned"....? Â A better word would be no seasoning what so ever. Â A little salt & pepper would do wonders!
And the Ants! Â All over everything....the bar top, the fruit holder thing on the bar...disgusting! Â Going by the employees lack of response to the hundreds of ants crawling on the bar and fruit holder thing, I can only assume that this must be normal.
ok, ok...i get it....its an outside bar. Â Ive been to outside bars before and never had to battle ants while I sat there, so thats no excuse!
For 9.75, I expect a burger that is much better than what the burger stand down the street offers fir 3.50. Â
At 4.00 for a Rum and Coke, it should be a bit stronger than a glass of Coke with a splash of Rum in it.
Overall, FAIL!
I will probably give this place one more chance, simply because the.concept is so cool and is truely unique.
I went there on Sunday. Â Prob the first nice day this year so far. Â The atmosphere was nice, the service was horrible (very slow). Â Also, I didn't expect the place to be an app and sandwich place. Â We ordered the lobster rolls which were good but very small. At $13, I guess you get what you pay for. Â We also had to order cheese fries because NOTHING comes with your sandwich. Â Free refills you ask? Â NOPE! Â We never got our refills we asked for, yet were charged. Â We brought it to the servers attention and it was fixed, but $2.50 for a drink with no refills? Â For real??? Â
Needless to say we left there still hungry. Â I guess if you are looking for a place to have a few drinks and apps with friends, then this would be a great place to go. Â As for dinner? Â Nah... unless you'd like to spend an arm and a leg for the additional apps and fries you will need to go with your sandwich. Â Oh and the $7.50 on iced teas you will need throughout the meal.
When my friends and I want to make plans to come to Taste of Key West, we say "Let's go back to Miami!" I have lived within 15 min from this place for a year and a half, and only tried it for the first time last month. It is a hidden gem.
As you and your friends sit at a table on their outdoor patio overlooking the marina, Corona in hand, you will feel like you have been transported to a beach town. We listened to the live band playing outside, enjoyed a table-full of yummy food, and ordered buckets of beer. It feels like a vacation.
We have decided that we will be back every few weeks for a little "getaway." =)
