Been here a couple of times and its expanded to other places besides Lowry. Â Pretty much your standard bar food fare. Â I tend to think the food is the low light here as it is okay, but not fantastic. Â Flavor just seems to be bland on a lot of different things, pizza, southwest chicken sandwich, french fries. Â Service is very good and this is probably a nice place to watch a Bronco game.
Review Source:We've been to Tavern Lowry a few times for dinner and each time I have been disappointed in some way. Â After the first visit we learned not to go before about 7:30 to give all the families with kids running around all over the place time to clear out. Â On the bright side, if you're looking for an adult place that is kid-friendly, you'll feel welcomed at Tavern Lowry. Â In addition to the spacious indoor seating area, this Tavern location has a nice big sunny patio and a large covered bar area with a TV underneath. Â It's perfect for watching the game while the kids play on the patio.
I've had salads, a burger, and a few appetizers, each of which were just average. Â The last time we visited, we had an issue with service. Â We were basically ignored by our waiter until the manager finally came over to help us. Â We got free drinks out of it but that wasn't enough to make us want to return. Â These experiences plus the highish prices mean we will be spending our dining dollars elsewhere.
I had a very enjoyable brunch at the tavern during my recent visit to the Denver area. Â My sister and I ordered mimosas (they do have a 'bottomless' option, but that would have been dangerous!) and I also ordered coffee. Â They give you a mug and you can go up to the bar where there are a couple of different flavored coffees as well as syrups, whipped cream and chocolate dipped spoons. Â Our friend ordered the bloody mary bar which was unlike anything I've ever seen. Â You get to make your own bloody mary with all of the fixins (there was a platter of veggies, cheese, deviled eggs and spices). It made me wish I actually liked bloody marys :/
My sister ordered the bananas foster french toast, which was huge and covered in syrup and walnuts. Â Her only gripe was that the bananas were not caramelized, but rather fresh (still very good though!) I ordered the Mediterranean skillet which came with eggs, potatoes, feta and spinach- it was delicious and I couldn't even finish the whole thing. Â I definitely plan on coming back here for brunch during my next visit!
I've been going to this Tavern for a couple years now and have got to say that I think it is my favorite one out of the bunch. Located in the heart of Lowry, the Tavern is super convenient for those who live on that side of town and offers a decent amount of seating inside and out. One nice thing here is their decent size patio that you can chill out on after a hard day's work or when you want to enjoy the weather on a nice autumn evening.
Being named, the Tavern, you would expect a good variety of booze to start your night out right, which they have. Nothing really stood out, but they have a decent variety of beers on tap as well as hard alcohol for those needs too.
Surprisingly, the food isn't that bad either. I've had everything from their pizza and burgers to the enchiladas. One of my favorite pies from the Tavern is to get half buffalo chicken pizza and half chicken pesto. The buffalo chicken is a great combination of buffalo sauce and ranch drizzled on it (super healthy I know!). The pesto has sun dried tomatoes, chicken, and artichoke hearts and is also super tasty. I usually can't decide on which one is better, and thusly, have to convince whoever I am dining with to go with that combo.
Another nice thing here is the big screen projector in the back dining area when you want to watch a game. Nothing better than some good food and libations when cheering on your favorite team!
Had the fish and chips for lunch. Excellent batter on small pieces of perfectly cooked cod. Fries were tasty as well. The cole slaw was seriously lacking though. It seems the cole slaw is a difficult thing for restaurants to make. I'm not sure why though. They would be better off buying cole slaw dressing at King Soopers and using that. But it wasn't bad tasting, it just had 0 taste.
Service was good, although the waiter seemed a little rushed, like he was overloaded. It wasnt that busy....
I came here with some folks to grab lunch and some bloody marys. Â The place is fairly large, nicely decorated and has a nice outdoor seating bar and area. Â On saturdays and sundays they have brunch from 10a-2p, which includes a bloody mary bar for $5.50 and bottomless mimosas for $10. Â I originally went for a bloody mary, but I got swayed by the bottomless mimosas! Â They were pretty good, and so was the bloody mary bar that my friends got. Â They apparently had a lot of goodies at the bloody mary bar to add to your cup of vodka. Â I also got the daily special, which was the chicken parmigiana, which was super delicious. Â It came with 2 slices of spicy garlic bread, 2 chicken breasts on top penne pasta. Â Overall a good experience here.
I hear that they have a lot of concerts here downstairs, which sounds cool as well.
We're new to the neighborhood, and we were pleasantly surprised by The Tavern. Â Now, I'll preface this by saying we have not been to any of the other Tavern locations around town, so I'm not basing this review on a comparison of this one versus other locations. Â I have no idea on that! Â Â
We sat outside on the patio, and because there's a full bar outside, the atmosphere out there is upbeat with plenty of people. Â
My husband had a burger with sweet potato fries. Â The burger was tasty, but nothing to write home about - it was the FRIES we were in love with! Â We both like sweet potato fries, so we order them often. Â These were probably the most flavorful ones I've had.
I had the fish tacos, and I was quite satisfied. Â Good flavor, and the perfect portion size for me. =) Â
I don't have any complaints. Â I'm sure we'll return!
There aren't a ton of bar type places in the area so this is a go-to place for many people. The Happy Hour is nice with good food specials and two for one beers or glasses of wine. The food isn't bad...I like the brunch especially. They have bottomless mimosas but they rarely come around to refill the glasses so you don't end up having too many. If you don't sit at the bar, the service is really bad. Overall, I'd  give it a 3/5.
Review Source:Like others have said, the place looks great, but that's where it stops.
The service is HORRIBLE! The food would have been really good had it not been cold. But the service was the absolute worse. We waited for 15 minutes to order two flat beers, so we missed Happy Hour and I could have argued this, but I didn't. We waited another 20 to order our food and it probably took 25 or more for two burgers that came to us cold.
When the waitress came by to check on us after we had our food I reminded her I was still waiting for my beer. I probably waited a half hour for the server to bring the 2nd beer I ordered.
Where has service gone these days?
I like The Tavern Lowry. Â I like it better than the other "Taverns" I Â have been to. Â
The Choke is my favorite. Â A grilled artichoke with a nice remoulade. Â It can be a bit oily, but really good nonetheless. Â They have good salads and good sandwiches. Â
Happy hour is nice, 2 for 1 house wines, certain drafts and house liquor. Â Nothing wrong there. Â And the patio is nice for summer.
All in all, it's a decent neighborhood bar.
My boyfriend and I went to dinner here last night before a concert at The Soiled Dove. Â The atmosphere of this place is beautiful and they have a nice bar area. Â Unfortunately, that is where the praise ends.
We arrived around 6:45pm and stood at front waiting for a seating hostess for about 5 minutes. Â During that time a very confused-looking man stumbled up towards the front. Â I figured he was just another customer, but then he turned to a glass electronics cabinet and started changing the channels on the many TVs over the bar. Â So he pretty much ignored us even though he clearly worked there. Â A hostess finally came up and took us back to a table.
Our waiter came and took our drink order (2 waters) and then left us alone with the menus for about 15 minutes. Â During that time he proceeded to walk by us every minute or so not looking at us or helping any other table, just sort of stalking by everyone like a prison guard watching a cell block. Â He came to our table around 7pm and asked if we needed more time. Â Um...no. Â We both ordered the California Burger, Medium, Gluten free. Â His with fries, mine with chips, and he did not write down our orders. Â He also came back once to ask if I wanted no bun on my burger when I had clearly asked for Gluten-free. Â
It took another 15 minutes to get our burgers. Â We cut into the burgers and they were red in the center. Â More Black & Blue than Rare, and much more raw than the Medium we ordered. Â I went ahead and ate mine since I take my meat rare usually, but it was way too rare for my boyfriend to eat (also, it has been illegal to serve rare hamburger ever since the E. Coli outbreak at Jack in the Box in the early 90s). Â We tried to flag down our server, but he walked past us. He never once checked to see if we were ok, and even started cleaning another table when we tried to get his attention. Â
At that point I got the attention of a Food Runner, who was apologetic and took the burger back to the kitchen to re-fire. Â So, now we're sitting there with food only in front of one of us, and every time the server walked by he didn't even notice or come to check on us. Â During that time he would also sneak up on several female servers, hugging them from behind or grabbing their arms. Â Clearly, the female servers were getting more attention from him that night than any of his tables.
The burger took another 20 minutes to re-fire, during which time my boyfriend got up to use the restroom. Â It was not until he walked away that our server walked up and said "Uh, is everything ok here?" Â No, idiot, there is only one plate of food here. Â He didn't apologize or even offer to go back to the kitchen and see where the food was, he just mumbled that he would go get the manager. Â As soon as he left, another food runner brought back the plate, but by then it was too late.
The manager came by and asked what happened. Â He ended up comping our bill for one of the burgers, but I still had to pay for mine. Â Hoenstly, this was the worst service I have ever experienced at a restaurant. Â I have gotten better service at fast food restuarants!
A friend and mine visited this location last night. Â Service was good as we sat in the bar area. Â The waitress was friendly without being too chatty and kept filling our waters.
I ordered The Choke. Â While I was leery that I was paying $9 for one artichoke - it was delicious. Â I'm only giving it four stars because it was $9. Â A little more inexpensive would have been much better. Â My friend had nachos and she said they were pretty good. Â
I'm also only giving four stars because they sat small loud children in the bar area. Â Really? Â Isn't this what the restaurant section is for. Â I don't drink but I like to sit in the bar because children are usually not in this area.
So all-in-all a good time was had by all.
As a good friend of mine said we are living in the "Napa Valley of beer." Colorado has the best breweries in the country in my biased opinion, so when a place as big as The Tavern Lowry has such a limited selection of beer I get sad. Yes they had Fat Tire, but so does everyone.
The food is generic bar food, and the service is... average.
They do have lots of room, so it would be a decent place to have a party, or event.
very blah
A friend recently laid it to me straight, I need to start reviewing bad places in addition to good ones. Â So since she is smart, and I always take criticism so well, I've decided to review one of my biggest, and repeated, disappoints in Denver.
The Tavern is in a great location (Lowry needs something cool), and the Soiled Dove has some good stuff come through.
BUT, The Lowry Tavern is the worst example the The Tavern Hospitality Group's problems. Everything is way too expensive, portions too small, and nothing on the menu is very good. Â ALSO, when I say expensive, I mean like $20 for a salad. Â I should note that the Lowry version does not mimic the Uptown location, where at least you get some quality in your high priced meal.
The atmosphere is actually nice, with a great patio, and friendly staff. Â But sadly this place is a big let down, and DO NOT allow your friends to convince you to come here.
Here is to hoping Lowry gets a better bar option soon....
If I could give zero stars, ii would. The WORST eggs Benedict the 4 of us ever had. The 4 of us ordered various iterations of it & 2 of us returned it (the others were too shy, which I found ridiculous). The hollandaise tasted like...nothing. No lemon, no richness, Â it was watery, & it was gritty!! The manager came over and we got it out of him that IT'S A POWDER you can get at Albertsons (brand : Knorr). Seriously? You can get a better Benedict at Perkins. No kidding. We will never return. It was seriously nasty.
Review Source:Went here for my 21st birthday for the first time, because of their supposedly killer drink specials. Not always the case. Three Olives Vodka drinks were supposed to be $4 during their twilight hour, including flavored vodkas, not including martinis or red bull mixers.
I ordered a drink that definitely did not have "tini" in the title, nor did it come in a martini glass. Â I was surprised when I saw the bill, and the drink was full price. When I mentioned it to our server, she told me that the drink was not part of the special, and did not offer an apology. Kind of a sad little way to start my birthday.
Also chips and salsa were supposed to come with a refill, we ordered 2 for our table of 10. Â Our server took away the baskets of chips once they were empty, and never offered us a refill. We were never able to ask as we hardly saw her again until she dropped the bill. It was a Friday night, and they were busy, so maybe that wasn't her fault. She also left pitchers of water on the table so we could refill ourselves.
Other visits have brought better service during lunch or for late night dinners, a majority of the servers were very friendly, knowledgeable and keep the drinks full. Â Burgers, sandwiches are good, and come with your choice of side. Clam Chowder was really tasty, and I was pleasantly surprised.
I always order the Buffalo Latke Reuben, and have had varying levels of latke quality. Â Sometimes it's perfectly crisp on the outside, other times it's sad and soggy from hanging out under the heat lamp for too long.
Atmosphere is loud, the kitchen is partially open so you can see in, and the bathrooms are clean. Â It's a bar with food. Not bad, not great.
Ok, I reviewed The Tavern Lowry after first moving here, and although I gave it four stars at the time, it's time to upgrade to five! Â
The bartenders here are GREAT. Â I particularly like Keith and James --- they make you feel comfortable and attended to like no other place I've been to here in Colorado. Â (Is Keith still there? Â I haven't seen him in awhile and if he's left...oh no. Â That boy is WONDERFUL and a definite keeper, management!) Â
Also, there's a delightful young lady who bartends earlier in the week, her name is Erin. Â She's top notch all day long and I'm always pleased to find her behind the bar.
I'm going out of my way to mention the staff because really, it's the service that keeps me coming back again and again. Even after being out at other places for the night I will pop in to the Tavern and chit chat with the patrons and staff. Â I always leave happy.
Look, you can get good drinks anywhere, really --- but can you get a great experience? Â Not always. Â At The Tavern Lowry, however, you really can, and the food is good as well. Â I order the hummus app plate or the spinach dip, usually. Â Yum.
I'll probably stop in tonight, truth be known. Â It's my neighborhood place and I'm so glad it's here!
I was not impressed by this place. When I lived in Denver I had been to the Tavern Uptown to grab a drink and I recall the food being pretty good. I was visiting friends and they suggested we go to the Tavern in Lowery for dinner because it was close by.
The service was terrible. The waitress forgot what we ordered and then would disappear for 30 mintues. She appologized for her poor service once but mostly disregarded that it sucked. This was a weeknight but I guess there was a show going on a the Soiled Dove. You think they would staff up knowing that a concert was going on next door.
It is nice that there is parking and isn't downtown, but I doubt I would come back again.
This is an American restaurant, and they can't even serve me proper American food? I hate to be writing any negative reviews because I know how much work it takes to make a restaurant prosper, but I simply can't let this one go.
I tried their Mac& Cheese, and was incredibly disappointed. I thought $15 for an "ultimate Tavern mac&cheese" would get me a wonderful party in my mouth of delicious and intricate flavors, but I was completely wrong. The 5 cheese sauce, I can't believe I am even saying this, was bland (to say the least) and runny. The chicken was moist, and obviously grilled to perfection, but it wasn't enough to bring up the quality of the mac and cheese dish. Overall, it was a major disappointment, and I simply can't believe they'd be serving this crap on the menu. The only reason why I didn't return the dish was because the waitress didn't even come back to our table to ask if the dish was alright. What a pity!!!
My personal home version of Mac and Cheese includes a thicker cheese sauce blend of Sharp cheddar, Manchego, goat cheese, and parmeggiana topped with parmesan chips, grilled shrimp on a safron-roasted chipotle mayo, dry tomatoes, and garnished with parsley. You can steal this recipe if you want... then serve me actual effing food next time.
I really want to like this place, but every time I go there seems to be a problem. Either they are out of an item or the service is lousy, or the food isn't quite what I ordered. Its a shame really cause they have an extensive menu with tasty dishes, and their aren't really too many good restaurants in the Lowry town center. Every time I go I hope that they'll put it all together for that 5 star experience, but it hasn't quite happened yet..
Review Source:Decent food, average drink prices, ok service.
Between this Tavern and the one Downtown, I will head here every time. There is actually parking here, the place is not packed with cougars and the floor is not sticky with spilled drinks. However, this place is much more a restaurant than the bar-like Tavern Downtown.
I've been here twice, once for late night drinks when a show at The Soild Dove downstairs was sold out and once for brunch before a Soiled Dove show. This place is kind of out of the way, but I'm sure they get a draw from the venue attached.
The late night menu is decent, cheap appetizers and a drink special of the day. I had an MGD and the marinated olives. The olives came in four flavors and there were a TON of them. I could have made that my meal (and maxed my fat content for the month). Our server was pretty attentive and our bill was low.
Brunch here was really good. I had some kind of prime rib skillet that was wonderful. And, since they have decent beers on tap here, I got a wheat to go with it, yum! However, our server apparently could not do math and accused us of shorting the bill (I paid by credit and she had not taken my payment into consideration when totaling the bill). She was quite rude about it and did not want to hear us explain to her how we had not shorted and why. So, food good, service bad.
I dunno. I didn't have such a great experience at The Soiled Dove and can't really fathom why I would trek all the way out to Lowry for any other reason, so the likelihood of me going back is pretty minimal. But, its a pretty decent spot if you're in the area.
We play at the Big Bear Ice rink every Monday night, starting three weeks ago and tried to make it a tradition to meet after our games at the Tavern at Lowry. At first glance it seems like a perfect place due to it not being busy at the time we come in which is about 8:30-9:30pm. There are 12-14 of us who all order drinks and appetizers, yet the server who we have had the last two times has been completely horrible to deal with. From forgetting my drink twice and charging me for three when only receiving one, to not being attentive at all when the place is close to being dead (at least the floor). She carries a lethargic attitude as to make it clear that we are not welcomed. In due respect, yes we just got off the ice and may not smell the best, that is why we have always secluded ourselves in the corner lounge. Â
I have rarely been impressed with any of the three taverns that I have been to with the exception of Brunches at the Uptown Tavern on 17th st. The service is usually mediocre, which is expected at a high volume bar Downtown/Uptown yet never as bad as we experienced in Lowry.
We will be trying the Elm next week and get back to you all on our experience there.
Thank you,
Mike
I live a block and a half from this place yet this is still not my go to place for drinks and a quick bite. Â The service is hit or miss and the food is decent to sometimes great but the prices are a little inflated for what you get. Â Love the Thai chili wings and bloody mary bar and buffalo chili. Â The salads are usually hefty but still do not merit the price. Â Happy hour is their best deal for drinks, 2-for-1 on wine, well and draft.
Review Source:Is anybody at the Tavern paying any attention? Â Hello, is this thing on? Â GET SOME ONIONS AT YOUR BARS! Â Some of us prefer a good gibson to a martini. Â What the hell kind of bar does not have onions? Â After I complained to the staff at the Wash Park Tavern, they put eight jars of onions behind the bar. Â Did anyone at corporate think to order some onions for the other locations? Â Evidently not.
Do not call yourself a tavern if you can not make the simplest of drinks.
I had lunch here today with a friend and it was quite nice. We sat out on the patio, in the sunshine and that felt good.
I arrived before she did and since I had also had a major/minor emergency since making our plans, I decided to spend my time waiting for her saddled up to the bar with my other friend Pinot Grigio. The bartender was right on top of things and had my order and my extremely well chilled wine for me in a matter of moments. My girlfriend arrived and he transferred my wine to the tab at our table. Cool.
Our server was nice and tried hard, it was clear she was newish ...she read the specials word for word, but made one sound so good we both ordered it, so good job!
She described it as a Jamaican Jerk kinda salad with grilled shrimp and mango with a spicy sauce. It was not at all "Jerkish" in my opinion, but was very tasty nevertheless. I also do not fault the server for this because we all know each server is hand fed a description of the specials from the kitchen. There was a good amount of shrimp which is always a good thing where I come from.
This is not the cheapest place to have lunch or maybe the very best of the best, but I had a really satisfying meal and one glass of wine and the backdrop for lunch with a friend that I really, really needed.
I like to pop in at odd hours to eat and try to avoid the crowds as that tends to skew the service in my favor. Not quite bar food, not quite restaurant food - I enjoy their delicious hamburger with the onion straws on top and their full bar makes it easy to ask for a Cherry Coke (the good kind with grenadine). Since I time it right, I can get great service and still get out of there in less than hour which makes it ideal for my ninja dining purposes.
Review Source:This last visit was far better than my initial experience. I went on a Sunday  during brunch and sat at the bar. The bartender was attentive and offered me a choice of brunch specials including a "make your own bloody mary bar"... nice.
I ordered the Mediterranean salad which was basically a steak salad with feta and olives (all the things I love w/ my lettuce). The steak was cooked perfectly. Literally the best rare steak I had had in ages.
I also ordered the chicken nachos, which weren't great, but the cheese was melty and the jalapenos were deliciously fresh. It was great.
The manager even came to my table to see if my service was fast enough and if my food was ok. Much better experience than my prior visit.
Now, I will say, even if I have to go back on a Sunday...I will return.
A lazy Saturday afternoon and we wanted to sit outside on a patio for lunch.
The Tavern Lowry delivers in that regard. In fact, this is a great restaurant for open-air dining. Most of the windows open wide so even eating inside is like eating outside.
The service was indifferent. They list a wine by the glass, but not by the bottle. I asked our waitress "how much for the bottle" and she said: "not in the computer". That wasn't what I asked.
The food is above average bar food, but the prices are a little on the high side.
Chicken Caesar salad at $12.50 was $2 overpriced. The chicken was moist and hot from the grill.
Cowboy Chili with incredibly delicious cornbread was a good value at $10. My only complaint was that the chili was served in a large diameter flat bowl (so it appears to be more than it is) and it cooled off (even with ambiant temp at 84F) rapidly.
Prime steak sandwich at $12 was a good deal. Huge sandwich and crispy fries.
I recently walked out of this establishment very pissed (American usage here, meaning very mad vs. British usage meaning very drunk). Â I was, in fact, not even slightly buzzed when I left. Â What happened? Â I sat down at the bar and waited for a bartender to help me with my problems; namely thirst and alcoholism. Â I waited and waited and... Well you get the picture. Â So, I left.
BUT............................
Even though their service is unpredictable (I've also had great service here), I keep coming back for the Hawaiian Chop salad. Â It is crazy delicious and really filling. Â And I'm not exactly an "oh- I can't possibly finish this salad" kinda broad. Â
Other good things about the Tavern:
1) Excellent live music venue
2) Calling all winos!! Thursday night 1/2 price bottle of wine. Â
3) Kid friendly. Â They've got colors, colors. Â ( Â A note for the child averse- I used to fit that bill.."Kid friendly" is an asset for me, cause I have one now. Â But it isn't like Chuck-E Cheese with the excessive noise and mucous that comes at "kid focused" places.)
4) The buffalo latke Reuben is a big, messy, guilt inducing gut bomb. Â And I love it.
Plea to Tavern Lowry Mgmt.- Please tell you bartenders that if a thirty-something redhead shows up at the bar and looks like she could really use a cocktail- get her one for cryin' out loud. Â Pronto.
