I am really big on Thai food and have tried quite a few Thai restaurants in Chicago. I found these guys on grub hub and decided to give them a try and fulfill my cravings for Thai food. Placed the order at 9pm and it was delivered in 30 mins.
I ordered Pad Thai with wide rice Noodles and Panang curry with white rice. I specifically asked them to make it extra spicy and I have to say both dishes were tasty. Though  their white rice portion was considerably small and I have half of the curry sitting in my refrigerator with no white rice  :(. I have had better Thai food at other places but I will be returning to this restaurant because this is the only Thai place that delivers in my area

WHAT HAPPENED? We came home with totally different dishes. Toy's amazing and rich panang was replaced with a watery soup light on veggies. No almond cookies! Anyone know what happened to Toy and his wife?

I had high hopes for this restaurant when I looked over the menu, but ended up disappointed in the end.  Due to icy weather we decided to order in, and came across Thai Thai on grubhub.  Both my girlfriend and I decided to order the chicken teriyaki, which was listed as coming with rice, miso, soup and salad.  We also decided to order a side of fried tofu.  Including tip and delivery fee, this cost around $36 dollars.  When our food was delivered, we started with the tofu, which came with its own dipping sauce (some sort of sweet and sour sauce the restaurant listed as "special sauce").  It was pretty decent, and the one order of tofu was enough for two people.  When we opened the container holding our main course, however, we were a little surprised.  There was no miso soup included, and instead of rice, there were about 10 french fries in one of the compartments.  I could have let the soup slide, but I was really looking forward to the rice, so I called the restaurant to inquire why it wasn't included.  They responded that the dish isn't served with rice...which surprised me, as (like I wrote before), it is listed on the menu as including rice (on grubhub, at least).  I was starting to worry that I paid a little bit too much for a meal that wouldn't fill me up, but then discovered that not one, but two sliced chicken breasts were included (one breast was stacked on top of another in the same compartment, which is why I missed it at first).  In the end, I wasn't hungry after this meal, but was still disappointed that several food items were listed on the menu and not included.  Normally, I would give the lowest possible rating for such an egregious error as this, but will rate Thai Thai just a little bit better due to the fact that they included enough food to at least satiate our appetites (and my girlfriend actually had enough chicken left over to include in her lunch the next day).  Still, if you are dead-set on getting Thai food, I suggest another restaurant.  2 stars.

Thai Thai is always a sure bet for fast and delicious food!  You can easily make three of four meals out off the quantity of the food they give you.  The staff is always very friendly, and the price for their food is fair.   On nights when we don't feel like cooking, we do Thai Thai.  I really enjoy the quality, and I have not been disappointed with anything I've tried here yet- (and yes, I've tried a great deal.)   I miss the old owners, but the new staff is really nice!

So, so sad.  Thai Thai got bought out.  They changed all the recipes, too.  The wonderfully fresh crispy egg rolls now have those disgusting wrappers that bubble and taste like papadums.  Blech - we could get that anywhere.  And the new panang recipe is not as rich, flavorful or spicy.

Mind you, it is still edible, and truthfully on par with all the other so-so Thai places in town.  It's just no longer a stand out.

I have been going to this place for years. I stopped by yesterday and knew right away its being run by new ownership. The food is okay but not nearly as spicy as before. When ordering the owner used to ask if I wanted that medium spicy or hot spicy. I was not even given that option. I hope they correct this. The worst thing they could have done was cut the portions in half. Not by a third or forth but in half. This is the worst mistake they could have made. I was a turnkey customer and they lost me on my first time in. The take out containers are about the size of a leftover container. I used to go to this place because its on the way home from work. I guess I have to look for a Thai place closer to home. It seems like they still have the same chef and I would like to give them my business.  I guess they could possibly build a new customer base but not in that neighborhood. Good luck to them.

Ok so I stopped in the other day and got the scoop. The young man at the counter explained Thai Thai got "bought out" and when I asked for more information about the previous owner he pointed to a letter posted on the counter. (I snapped a photo and posted it here.) He also told me Toi was still cooking in the kitchen to which I was happy to hear. Well, I just ordered delivery tonight and regardless who is cooking the recipes are different and the food isn't the same old Thai Thai unfortunately.

You really have to know your thai food. My friend owned a thai restaurant where I went all the time... i THOUGHT i loved thai food. This restaurant has a lot of sweet, sour, spicy dishes. We ordered a lot, but I don't think I liked any of them.

We happened in here while out on a bike ride with the kids. It's a small place and very casual- we didn't feel at all uncomfortable putting my son's scooter under the table. I have two or three favorite Thai places east of here, but Thai Thai is very good- flavorful, not heavy or greasy, and prepared fresh. The man I assumed to be the owner took our order and was very nice. There's not much in the way of Asian food in this area, and it's definitely worth a stop.

Confused by all the 'amazing' reviews.  Not an awful restuarant, but as someone who as been to tons of thai places, I wasn't impressed at all.

My boyfriend and I went after reading all the great reviews and left shrugging.  It was mediocre at best.  I think part of our opinion was the atmosphere.  It felt like a cafe that had been set up in ten minutes.  Several square tables in a square room with no music, no other people there, it felt kind of odd.

If you're starving for thai, the food isn't awful awful, but it's not a thai place to sit and enjoy yourself.

Superb. I've had Thai at many restaurants in Chicago and this is as good as it gets. The Panang Curry is amazing.

When we came in, we got showered in hugs. I strongly believe that we were welcomed properly.  The servers were friendly and talkative. All of our food came in a timely manner and it was delicious and excellent. Not only was the food delicious, but it was very healthy, too! I will definetly come back to Thai Thai soon.

This is our fav thai joint. It is not far off the I-90/94. I go there and I'm always seeing my neighbors. So I'm not the only one who loves this place. We've been going here for years. Even our teens love it. Get the ginger chicken

I LOVE this place. This is the best Thai food I have ever had. I live in the south west burbs and I travel about 50 mintues (driving) to get to Thai Thai. You can call me crazy, but the food is delicious. I have tried other restaurants around my area, but nothing compares to Thai Thai. My sister introduced me a few years back and I haven't found anything better.

I do recommed the Chicken Pad Thai (spicy) and the egg rolls. They even know my order when I walk in the door. I sit down at a table with friends and we don't even need menus. They know exactly what we want before ordering.

It is a very small place, but everyone is so friendly and the food is amazing!
    I highly recommend eating here!

Vey good food. We order take out probably once a week because it's so convenient. The service is always very friendly. Their Panang is among the best in the city. Either with chicken or beef.

This place has been around for quite a while and I must say that I like it since I keep coming back.  The food has been consistently good and its reasonably priced and come in fairly large portions, its also BYOB. Very quick and very warm, friendly service.

Be warned, this a no frills sort of restaurant, the place is sparsely decorated and there is no real flare to the food presentation, but the flavor makes up for it . I've always been a fan of the rangoon, the fried tofu, the pad thai wth tofu, and the Panang!

So if you want to get some great tasting warm food in a casual everyday sort of way, then go here. But if you're looking to impress someone while out on a date, this place might definitely hurt your chances.

I love this place. It is small and the owners are super friendly.

I have had and recommend any of the following:
    - Pad Thai w/Chicken
    - Cashew Chicken
    - Thai Thai Shrimp (appetizer)
    - Panang w/Chicken

    They are all awesome.

Look, I know people are going to look at a claim like "Best Thai Place" in Chicago and scratch their heads and say "F you pal". But hear me out. This town is waaaaaaaay oversaturated with Thai food. You can't throw a midget (little person) without hitting one of these places.

Fully understanding that the competition is thick. Lets look at the competition. Most of these places are run by money hungry and skimpy owners trying to cash in on the Thai food fad/craze driven by the twenty-something women of Illinois. They have no flavor, small portions, and no real style.

Thai Thai is run by very friendly and interesting people. They dont have the bells and whistles of many of their competitors but their food is just damn amazing. The flavors are full and fibrant and their portions are hearty and delicious. If you try this place and don't like it - I'd venture to say you hate America.

A wonderful neighborhood Thai Restaurant with the best peanut sauce & panang around the Irving Park & Albany Park area!  The owner, Toy, is very friendly and remembers what you order.  Great for take out & very casual dining!  BYOB & affordable!  Have been going there for over 15 years & have many friends who now go there for a great, affordable Thai meal!  Healthy packed take out containers!!!

Zero ambiance, zero presentation, friendly service, & decent food.  However, I used their bathroom & it made me wonder about the cleanliness of the place.  My brother-in-law & his girlfriend are fans of the place & live nearby, but I don't know that I'd go back, especially with so many excellent Thai places in this city.

Love this place have looked all over for a place that does pud kaprow or pud prik as well and haven't found one. When I worked up North we used to get this once a week.

I live on the SW side of chicago and wish I could find a place that serves those dishes with the same flavor.  I tried Chi Tung and Thai Spy and just not the same.

Almost ready to take a road trip and get some it's been about 3 years since I have had it but having cravings for thai thai.

I don't make any claim that this is the best thai food in Chicago. In fact, Thai Thai is sort of tucked away in an area consisting of not much of anything. At a glance, there is nothing to set Thai Thai apart.

Upon entering though, it feels like home. Ok, not my home maybe since I consider home to be the hills of Kentucky in an area where I assure you there are no thai restaurants to be found. Still, there is something...comfortable, about this small restaurant. The owner and (presumably) his wife are so genuinely happy to see their customers that it comes as no surprise to see that many people are clearly repeat customers.

The service is attentive and quick. The food, at least the limited items I have tried, has always been good and upgraded to the spice level I have requested. One very nice touch the last time I visited was the orange slices given at the end of a meal. Yes, it's just a cut up orange you might say, but it was a refreshing way to end things.

I love the strip of thai restaurants on Western, and they will deliver to my house, but the service keeps me coming back to Thai Thai and I don't expect that to change.

I'm not sure how I feel about Thai Thai.  Would I go back?  Maybe.

I was in for lunch, and the server was good - very attentive and quick.

The food just wasn't great. I had the Tofu Cashew, and I really didn't care for the way they prepared the tofu.  I ended up leaving most of it.  The vegetables did taste fresh, but the sauce just wasn't very tasty.  All in all a bland meal.  Who knows, maybe I ordered the wrong thing.

I am writing this review as I sit here enjoying the endorphin rush from a bowl of Curry Noodle Soup.  My wife and I have been enjoying this place, only with our closest friends, for the better part of 14 years.  We have tried to stray, many times, but are disappointed by any other Thai experience.  Choi and family simply cannot be beat.  We continue to drive here, over 10 miles out of our way, when we want our Thai Thai fix.  Recommendations include Thai Thai Shrimp (and any appetizer), Curry Noodle Soup, Red and Green Curry Dishes, Lard Nar, All Panangs, and basically everything.  In short we are addicts.  If they ever retire, I'm paying Choi for cooking lessons.  If you haven't been, you must try.  Remember, it's BYOB, great place for a group of friends.  Don't be in a hurry though, family run, and better off for it.

It's the perfectly average, exceptionally typical Thai experience you haven't been looking for but will do in a pinch!

The tempura-battered chicken wings in honey sauce, now that's a four-star appetizer. The rest of the food is like what would pop out of the Star Trek replicator - the banalized average of all other versions of it. The pad thai is as not great as it is not horrible. Tried the beef in oyster sauce, that was totally acceptable and edible. The Pad Something Something, a chicken dish with Chinese sausage, veggies and gravy over rice was a disappoinment. I think I got three tiny pieces of Chinese sausage, and the "gravy" seemed like it was just corn starch and water with a pinch of salt. Service seemed a tad bit touch slow.

The Diet Coke I had was the perfect temperature.

Every once in a while, I feel the persistent and unyielding urge to chemically and physically burn my soft palate and esophagus.    When this urge strikes, I head straight to Thai Thai.  I was introduced to this joint almost a year ago and have been there five or six times since my first encounter.  I will no doubt be back again as soon as the need for heat strikes.

Upon entering you will be hit by a dirty dish rag odor if there are no other patrons in attendance.  Ignore this particular smell, for it will soon be overwhelmed by galanga, ginger, garlic, and fish sauce.  Start with the lemongrass marinated chicken sticks (not the satay) and their WONDERFUL crab rangoon.  Delicate half moons fried extra crisp with a lovely coating of panko bread crumbs.  I have never had rangoons like this before and they are simply outrageously delicious. While I and my boyfriend have dared to try a few other dishes, I am always brought back to the Kang Pa.  A wonderful assortment of my favorite Asian veggies steamed to crisp perfection in the most flavorful, steaming hot, curry soup without a drop of coconut milk in sight. Big chunks of ground chicken bounce like buoys in the broth laced with hot Thai chilies and small droplets of spicy red oil.  I order mine as spicy as they can go and savor every minute of coughing, nose running, eye tearing bliss.  It is one of those dishes I just want to enjoy forever and pass out dead in.  Outstanding!

I have gone with friends on weeknights and have been surrounded by day traders for a solo lunch.  BYOB is a perk and the gentleman who takes orders and seems in charge is very friendly and obviously knows his regular customers well.  The bathroom is a bit odd.  I'll use the word homey, meaning a bit too comfortable and borderline gross.  But one steaming slurp of that fantastic curry soup makes up for all the oddities of Thai Thai.

Clean your sinuses, venture off the beaten over trail of commercial restaurants, and try Thai Thai.  Have an open mind and lots of tissues, and you will not be disappointed.

It's kind of easy to write a review on a Thai restaurant. All Thai food is pretty much the same. Thai Thai is your standard run of the mill Thai restaurant. I did not dine in, we ordered take out for pick up.

I had the chicken pad Thai and it was good! The servings are huge and you can easily get 2 meals out of of one "serving." My hubs had the chicken red curry, extra spicy. He did not care of his. He thought the curry wasn't especially hot. Thai Thai also gives you yummy almond cookies with your order. A sweet bonus to finish off your meal!

One of my friends used to work up north, during which she discovered Thai Thai. She loves this place so much that she drives once a week from OAK LAWN to Irving Park and Elston to go here. Ok, YOU LIVE BY CHI TUNG. YOU ARE NUTS. Or maybe this place is just that damn good. I had to find out if the chicken pad thai was as incredible as she said it was.

So we make our trip from 35/Archer to Irving Blue Line, then she picks us up from the el to go to the restaurant. Vey small, very clean place. Good sized menu and reasonable prices. However, one thing struck me as odd. Now I didn't write the book on Thai Food, so I don't know what is authentic or what isn't, but I found it kind of odd that they didn't put tofu in their pad thai. So I ordered my pad thai extra spicy, and add tofu

It had good flavor, but was most certainly NOT that spicy. They hardly put any egg in it. The tofu wasn't the firm little blocks you usually get but instead were these mushy, lukewarm, watery blocks that kinda made me nauseous when I ate them. I suppose without the tofu I'd enjoy it more. If I'm in the area I'd eat here, but I would most certainly not make the hour long trip again.

I have driven by Thai Thai soooo many times and finally stopped in this past week. It's a very casual, homey place. It reminds me of a lot of the Thai joints my mom would take me to growing up. I'm guessing the owners were the servers - it was an older woman and man. For some reason when I saw the man's hands I imagined that he is actually a super hero and the restaurant is a front - OR - they are actually housing a Clark Kent and they own a restaurant to make people think nothing's wrong....

...anyway, about the food. Awesome! We ordered the Fried Chicken appetizer. Now those are some big sized wings! The marinade was fantastic. The crispiness reminded us of tempura. Soooo good. I had the Pad Woon Sen with Chicken and my companion had the Pad Si Ew (sp?). We were both very pleased with our meal. I was a little nervous considering we were the only table they were serving during lunch but that did not affect the quality of the food at all. The veggies were nice and fresh.

One disappointing factor is the lack of a Lunch Special menu. The prices are same all day long - an entree with an appetizer would probably run around $12 a person or so.

The service was very attentive. Both the older woman and man were extremely friendly.

I would definitely come back here. There aren't many Thai restaurants in this neighborhood. Thank god these guys are around and have fantastic food!

Parking on Elston shouldn't be too hard.

I've been going to this place for years with my family. The owner and his son David are wonderful people! The food is authentic, no-frills, good thai food. Don't go here expecting something super new and creative, but if you are craving Thai, you will not be disappointed. I like the Pad See Ew in particular. The atmosphere is nice and quiet, a good place for going out with family or friends, and it's nicely priced also!

Me and my significant other LOVE this place.  We've gone to a few Thai places close to home, but these was our first and remains our favorite.  They have great thai tea and their fried rice has a semi-sweet flavor.  Great food, great staff, great environment!!

Out of all the Thai places in the city, this is by far my favorite. My family has been ordering here since I was a child, and even once I move out of the neighborhood, I will continue to drive here to get my favorite Thai food.

First and foremost, I have to mention that Thai Thai is not a fancy, date-night kind of restaurant, so if that's what you're looking for you'll have to go somewhere else. Instead Thai Thai is a small bare-bones place run by a happy older couple. The same woman has taken my order and the same man has greeted me at the door since the first time I ordered from there. The food is basic, and yes, as a previous reviewer writes, it comes in a large styrofoam cup. As I mentioned, this is a no-frills restaurant.

The food is consistently delicious, hot, and fresh. If you don't want to eat in a room with wood paneling and cheap chairs, then pick it up and bring it home; that's what most of their customers seem to do. The meals and great, friendly service you will get here more than make up for a lack of decor.

Some recent bonuses: Thai Thai used to be cash only, but they recently started accepting credit cards. If you want to stick to cash, you won't spend more than $10 a person, even if you get appetizers.

I highly recommend this to anyone looking for the best Thai take-out on the Northside.

OK... I don't know if you allowed to rate a place where you have never actually tried the food... but my frustration with trying to try this place has led me to a rating of 1 star.

Three times (THREE) my friend and I have made a date to try out this Thai place. Three times there was a note on the door in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday stating they were on vacation for about 2 weeks. These visits were all spread out over about a 10 month span of time. WTF?

OK... I get it. Family run. I guess I can understand how once a year or so you would close up shop for a week or two and take a vacay. But three times a year they treat themselves to a 2 week vacation? I wish my life was that luxurious!

If I ever try it, I will rate their food I guess, but it will be a long time before I go out of my way just to be greeted by another "Closed from  __ to __ " sign. There are far too many Thai restaurants with good food (that actually stay open) to waste any more time on this one. Try Opart on Western! it's yummy yummy stuff!

UPDATE: Ok... so I ate at thai thai (yes. it WAS open), and the food was pretty good. I got the chicken panang and it had a good bite to it. My friend also enjoyed her sweet and sour dish. The man that waited on us was very nice and patient as we closed down the place. There are some other great thai places a little nearer to me, but if i lived close by, I would stop in here again.

Thai Thai is mid-way between where I work and where I live, so I frequent the place, but usually for carry-out unless I'm with a group from work. The husband/wife owner duo are very nice folks. Love love love the panang: really rich. The pud kaprow is good too. I agree that the crab rangoon isn't very tasty but the satays are, and the thai iced coffee rocks too.  Pretty quick, and they finally take credit cards. Closed Mondays.

Echoing some of David S's comments, this place is great for what it is.  Family run, no presentation, & small no frills interior.  However, the portions are large and many things on the menu are quite good.  I live in the area and frequent this place often when I'm looking for good quality Thai takeout (no delivery) that's fairly cheap.

Favorites include spicy panang curry, pud thai, and ginger chicken.

I live right down the street and probably order once a week. So...it's not the best but you get a TON of food and if you're veggie like me you'll appreciate the amount of tofu you get when you order it in an entree. The iced coffee is kinda weird, but you get into it after a bit and you get a gallon for like, $2.
