A group of friends and I came in to redeem our Groupon for 4 people. First off, this place was EMPTY for a Friday night while the bar next door sounded like there was a party going on and I can see why...the manager/boss lady didn't give a much welcoming vibe. Instead, she talked to us in a nasty tone and just sounded like she didn't want to be there. We ordered our tapas and there was definitely NOT enough food for 4 people to share. 2 balls of potato with a tiny piece of cheese inside for $7?! I would've been furious if I had to pay full price for that. The food was also overly salty so if you want to raise your blood pressure, this food is right for you. When we got our bill, our bill came up to around $90 and we were only to pay 18% gratuity. I never felt like I wasted such money on such horrible food and mediocre drinks. The fine print also stated we would get 4 flights of martinis WITH 3 mini martinis. We asked about that and the manager told us it actually meant 4 martinis in MINI martini cups.... READ THE FINE PRINT, LADY! Key word = with.
Would I come back? Never.
Would I recommend this place? No.
Should you go to the bar next door instead? Yes.
Track that was spinning as we waited for our table. "I'm horny, horny, horny, horny" Â For real, no bullshit. Â You'd think it was a gay club and I kind of hoped it might be so we could ass up on some cheap booze. Â However, it was not. Â
It was an arduous ordeal. Â Lackadaisical service at best. Â The food.. well, couldn't wait. Â Couple pricey drinks and then just bounced.
Over charging customers, $8 Bacardi & Cokes, $7 Â Heinekens... Really... Then steal a cell phone off a table and use it to call their family ? Â Wow ! Â No wonder this place is always empty. Â I highly suggest staying as far away from this place ad possible. Â And if you decide to check it out, keep your cell phone secured, watch your tab or they will add drinks to it that you never ordered and if you get a bucket of beer dont take your eye off of it or they will steal beers back from you to resell. Â If I could rate this place - 5stars I would...
Review Source:I stopped in here tonight for an appetizer and beer on my way home from work. Â The owner/staff (Elizabeth) was very friendly and welcoming, and the food was pretty good.
What put me off and will stop me from going back was one of the owners/staff in a corner of the restaurant smoking. Â If it is your restaurant and you want to smoke there, then good for you. Â But realize that people will stop frequenting your establishment (not to mention it is against the law)!!!
I so desperately wanted this place to delicious. We had recently moved to the neighborhood and have a love of both tapas and Asian cuisines, so we thought this place would be perfect. Sigh, alas, disappointment ensued. We had a party of 4 and placed an order for a number of dishes to share as is customary for tapas. The plates that arrived were sad dishes indeed. Some were as bland as they get and others were as salty as the Pacific. So for the second round we asked the waiter for suggestions in an attempt to let the establishment save itself. However, his recommendations only validated our earlier sentiments. We left most of the food on the plates, which I felt guilty for, but it couldn't be helped.
Also there was a birthday party going on at another table and they were beyond obnoxious. It's not a large restaurant and I can't understand why anyone would feel the need to be as loud as they were. Even the server noticed how uncomfortable they were not only making us but other patrons too. After a bit the server asked the party to quiet down a bit, but alas, they only got more raucous.
We left hungry and disappointed. In fact, and this should illustrate the situation, we left to go through the drive thru at White Castle to end our evening.
There are far too many incredible establishments in Chicago to try this one. I can only hope someone buys this place and turns it around.
I will never go to that hell hole again.
The owner, Regina, is the worst business owner I've encountered in a long time.  The bad reviews are true.  She hired a DJ to start at 10pm, but still had some Christmas singing and holiday entertainment until almost 11.  This deterred people coming in for a night club atmosphere.  They came  by, saw the family reunion going on and left.  By the time the DJ could start playing, there was not a single person in the place, and no one showed up for the rest of the night.
Regina actually got into the DJ's face, and refused to pay her at the end, trying to charge her for a couple drinks and tapas that were supposed to be comped. Â Instead of working things out, she almost caused a fist fight, like a caged dog that got loose.
Watching the hole thing unfold was so disappointing. Â This was not the first time Regina caused a fight to get out of paying the entertainment. Â She's been known to pocket money from the bar, instead of ringing it, so that the entertainment doesn't make their commissions.
Generally, the food is extremely overpriced for the tiny portions. Â The location is terrible. Â They don't give a crap about their customers, treating them like they're doing you a favor for even bothering with you.
They're about to under. Â If I could give no stars, I would.
It was way over-priced.  Food not great. Beef skewers tasted the best, but you only got 2 skewers for $6.25.  They served each items separately with a bit of a wait between each item.  I personally was not impressed with the dining experienced  I am glad I had a groupon so the cash outlay was not so bad to try the neighborhood place out.
Make sure you check on the prices when you receive your check. The noodles where on the menu for $10.25, and on my check they were charging me $14.00. Â They did correct the error when I brought it to their attention.
I do have to say the mussels here are pretty tasty. The rest of the food here is just "okay". I have been here a few times and have ordered a few different things. I do think the food is a little over priced for what it is.
However, my biggest complaint is feeling like I'm being ripped off with the bill.
First time here I ordered two different tapas, each time a basket of bread was brought out with each dish. Please note that I did not request these baskets of bread, I assumed they were complimentary. When I got the bill I was charged $2 for each basket of bread. $4 for two baskets of bread I did not order or eat? I looked at the menu after getting my bill and NO WHERE on the menu does it state bread is an extra charge!
Second time I went there, I specifically told my server I didn't want any bread.
I knew better this time! So when it came time for my bill, I was given a receipt that was not itemized. I asked for the itemized receipt and when I got it....there was a charge on the bill for an item I did not order! I don't know if that is any indication of how they run their business there, but I definitely won't be back.
So if you are thinking of trying this place out, make sure you take a good look at your bill before paying.
This barely qualified as a dining experience to be frank.
We had a groupon to use up, so we went for dinner around 7PM. Â We got water, although only two of four guests had their water poured, and three of four guests had water glasses. Then we got bread. Â There were three slices of bread for four people, and the olive oil tested like it had been in the bottle for months. Â No salt and pepper, cheese, anything else.
We ordered drinks. A beer, a martini, and a vodka & soda. Â After a spell, we were informed by our waitress that they were out of soda and that particular beer. When I asked what carbonated beverage they might have, she explained they had a party the previous weekend, and they were still out of a lot of things. Â Um, OK. Â So I got a glass of wine, and another got a different beer.
All things would be fine. Â Except, honestly, the food was terrible. Â Half of the dishes I could have made better at home. We got all sorts of things.
Mini rolls- they tasted like they were from costco and cut in thirds. Â Then placed on a plate and pared with orange marmalade from Jewel.
Crispy chicken- this was probably the best dish. Â Not warm though.
Adobo- NO flavor. None. And the server spilled the sauce all over someone.
Tortang-Talong- this was not edible. Â A slice of badly seasoned eggplant with cold eggs.
Drunken pasta- the pasta sauce tasted bitter. Â It also was barely inedible.
Short ribs- tough, again not warm, but the seasoning was OK. Â Barely any on the plate.
We also ordered a shrimp dish, but couldn't tell you how it was, because it never showed up. Â The chef appeared to just come out and sit at the bar after cooking, despite us not having been served all we ordered.
We also were given a few dirty plates.
I also have to add that the ambiance of this place is bizarre. I felt awkward the entire time I was dining there. Â Shabby decor, mismatched furniture, speakers piled up against the wall. Â It might be fine as a coffee shop, but for an evening dining experience, it was sad.
I would not recommend going. Â We wanted to check it out for a while, since we live in the neighborhood. Â Something kept us from going. Â We should have listened to our instinct.
A friend and I came on a weeknight and thought it had a comfortable and cool environment, especially for neighborhood. There was a couple at the bar, but other than that it was just the very friendly owner (I'm assuming) and one server. Â It has a very gallery-cafe atmosphere, very open, we immediately felt comfortable.
The service wasn't bad and the dishes came out promptly one after the other without much wait, but again, we were the only table when we first came in and shortly after there were only 2 more tables.
The calamari was a decent portion, but a little tough. The croquettes were lacking SOMETHING, anything, a sauce, a little saltiness, they tasted bland. The Caldereta was a little chewy, I would pass on that. Â
The bruschetta was fantastic; tomatoes, mozzarella, avocado (yes) extremely fresh, with a little pesto spread. We also had the chicken wings which I also recommend. We also had the sangria, which was not bad but not noteworthy.
Lastly I should mention, they have a Groupon AND they have specials, Groupon is not valid on alcohol and not valid on the $5 special pricing on small plates during the week.
I don't mind these stipulations, but-
1) We weren't made aware that the Groupon couldn't be combined with the $5 small plates special
2) They advertise $5 small plates, but NOT ALL the small plates are $5. We had to ask about that, and we were told "Just the $6 & $7 ones." We ordered some that ranged between $6.25 - $7.25 (only a couple items were exactly $6 or exactly $7) and for some reason only one of our plates was discounted, so, it isn't very clear exactly which ones are on special.
All in all it wasn't a bad experience, but I'd just as soon try some place new next time rather than rush back.
I was looking for a Filipino restaurant to blog on my food journal and Thirteen Asian Tapas popped up as a recommendation. For a first pass, I decided to get something to go because I waas not certain that during the time that I had placed the order if the restaurant was going to be filled to capacity. Much to my surprise, it was empty. The person behind the bar had mentioned that the restaurant gets a lot of business through the week. Then again, it is the Irving Park area that isn't close to Lakeview where all the action is.
I had ordered three dishes: adobo, ginger chicken, and inasal. All three were nicely priced and delectable just the same. As tapas goes, the portions were small alon the lines of a lunch portion. They were not bite size, though.
Because my food blog is lacking in Filipino representation, I shall have to return for the on location dining experience because the food that I had was noteworthy enough to mention on the blog. Plus, I will have to photograph the experience. For take-away, I was pleasantly satisfied.
To all those reviewers who have given this place lower than a three, maybe you shouldn't go out. Â The martinis are very good at great deal on Fridays. Â You can't go wrong with the pulled pork BBQ sandwich (not your typical BBQ because has a more unique flavor). Â I would also recommend the Ox tail which comes in a peanut butter sauce. Â It is savory and you have a very big portion for two. Â The next dish that was really good was the ginger chicken. Â I would also recommend the Bistek Tagalog, savory beef with glass cooked onions. Â We got five dishes, three drinks for under $50. Â You can't beat the price and the quality of the food. Trust the servers recommendations if you have never been here before.
Review Source:i was interested in gettin filipino food tapas style but this place was very disappointing. i ate here wit a friend & we had the bruschetta, pancit & beef cut into small pieces(cant remember the actual name on the menu.) the ony thing we liked the bruschetta & that wasn't that great either. the pancit had no flavor! it was so bland! i couldnt even believe it cuz ive never had pancit this bad! the meat dish was ok but wasnt impressed at all. the people working there were filipino so i was shocked that the food was not good at all. i dont expect it to taste like my moms food but damn! never again will i come back here!
Review Source:SMALL PLATES people! What do you except? My husband & I have been here 2 times now. We both love it. The food is really good. The service is a little slow but very friendly. The waitress remembered us after only being there once before. The music is great, he even had everyone singing to the Beatles! Also as we were sitting there Toni Preckwinkle walked in! Everybody who worked there knew her. It is really fun & very different from the hoity toity places around. We will be regulars at this place for sure.
Review Source:This palce in in our neighbourhood. Good neighourhood, with very little eat out places. I wish this place a good luck! The interior is not very impressive, but quite cozy. Bathroom needs a little cleaning. And the wait time was quite slow. But the food was very very good! I was a little nervous, but it looked good, tasted good. I usually get pretty sick pretty much after ANY eating out. Luckily not after eating at this place. I Â just hope this place picks up a little , as it would be a great spot to walk to dine out. If you are not too picky about the settings-the food is very good. And inexpensive.
Review Source:Yuck. Bad service. Bad food. Dirty restaurant/bathrooms.
Only 1 server on a Friday night. Pretty sure no one that works there actually knows anything about their cocktail list. Stick to beer, chances are they will still bring you the wrong kind....
We ordered 2 tapas to start. Neither impressed, 1 was actually gross. Ordered 2 more, pretty much the same thing. Although we were still very hungry we decided to cut our loses and stop ordering food here and just go home and eat something.
The entire experience was very awkward and confusing.
I will not be back again, ever. Sorry....
Filipino food TAPAS Style..what? If you are filipino, it is hard to wrap your thoughts around the tapas style because as you know we love to cook for the entire block not in small plates but we just stopped by after a cubs game because they are open until 2am!
Ordered: beef steak, calamari and chicken pesto (don't ask why I ordered the pesto).
My friend liked the beef steak and wished it was a bit bigger but it was only $6. That's what you get when you try tapas style.
Chicken pesto was bland for our taste and calamari was ordinary.
Overall I enjoyed trying this place and the staff is very nice.
I wanted so badly to love this place but I did not. The idea and concept is great and it is something that is needed in the neighborhood. Parts of the food were great and others were unforgivable. We ordered a chicken soup and the broth was amazing. I loved the papaya and the chicken was tender. The problem was that everything was cut way too large, my boyfriend and myself both bit into large chunks of ginger (2 inch chunks) which just kill your palate and they threw the entire chicken breast in the tiny pot bones and all. I could let it slide if the place was packed but we were the only people in the place. It took about 30 min to get our first appetizer of mussels. I was a chef for 10 years and I assure you it should take no more then 10 min to prepare. Â The adobo chicken was good but it rested on a plate of shredded lettuce which just got soggy after the chicken was added. The food was good and I can see where they are going but the execution was awful. Service was pleasant and not obnoxious. I hate when a server comes over and asks a thousand times how things are ( I just wanna have a minuet to digest and form an opinion). All in all I really think that this place can be awesome but it is not there yet.
Also what's up with the 700 ginormous flower paintings?
Oh boy, where to begin...
Identity crisis is the best i can do in summarizing this place. Â But .... after waiting 25 mins from the time our wine was deleiverd to the time that our order was taken (this was caused by confusion between the two, yes two, wait staff running this 40 people establishment). Food arrived, cold, tasteless and dry. Â The deserts had the oldest most dried out strawberries on them ever. Â But here is what was worst... after all of this, the maitre 'd was asking if we were ready to pay 30 seconds after the bill was put on our table.
Never again will we go here!
We went there on a Tuesday night around 6:30. Â There was another couple sitting at the bar having drinks, not food, and one server who was also the bartender. Other than that the place was empty. They have a huge projector screen television and were showing sports center (volume on) coupled with some jazz music in the background. My date found the tv quite distracting.
The waitress informed us that all $6 tapas were $3 that night but that we had to order drinks from the bar. I had a gin and tonic and the only gin they had was tanqueray. The tonic was flat as if it had been sitting in a fridge open for weeks. I sent the drink back and she brought another, but this one did not have any gin in it! I gave up on the gin and asked for a glass of wine (impossible to screw up.)
When we ordered food I asked her how many tapas dishes would she reccomend for the two of us, and she repllied 4. She was about 5'0 and 85lbs, but still - four of those tiny plates would not even come close to filling two people.
We tried to order the Beef Spare Ribs - but they were out.
So we got Caldareta Beef and Chicken Adobo. The beef was very tasty, but only came with 3 small beef tips and the rest was sauce. The chicken was very dry and flavorless. We also had Laing (which is taro leaves over crisp rustic bread). The taro was bland and the bread was soggy. The adobo and laing claimed to have chilli powder, but I could find no evidence. The chicken wings with asian sauce were about the only enjoyable thing we ordered. Although the wings were a little small, the sauce was delicious. They may have been fryed a little too long though because they were extremely crispy.
Lastly we tried to order Crispy Chicken Skins and Sisig (which is deep fried pork belly). They were out of the Crispy Chicken Skins so we just had the Sisig. The seasonings listed on the menu were clearly not on the plate, as in reality it was just a plate of greasy fried pork skins.
After $45 we left unsatisfied and frankly still hungry.
Tip - Don't waste your time.
You know, this place has been one of the best finds in Chicago for me. I happen to live close by which is the only reason I tried it out in the first place, but in the handful of times I've been here never had a bad experience or, most importantly, bad food (Braised short ribs=legendary). They offer good deals consisting of a number of filipino inspired tapas and a bottle of wine or pitcher of amazing house sangria. We usually get the tapas for two which is your choice of 4 plates and bottle or pitcher for less than 40 total. Not a bad deal. The atmosphere modern and simple while at the same time being cozy and romantic. I strongly urge everyone thinking about trying this place to DO IT, you will enjoy every bite.
Review Source:The food is really, really, really good. Â The service is inexperienced and they goof up a lot. Â Bartender is lost in space. Â Waiter tries his very best and is very, very nice and polite. Â I would go back the food is that good. Just be prepared to be patient with the staff. Â Its worth it!!
Review Source:I really wanted to like this place, and I did initially. It's new in my neighborhood, an area that could benefit from more restaurants. However, Thirteen Pins could step up things in many different ways.
Portion sizes are ridiculously small. I love Filipino food and went with a Filipino friend here, and we were both disappointed for what we got, especially my friend (no tocino anymore on the menu...tsk tsk).
Most $6 "tapas" dishes are mainly beef or pork, and done up very small. Still, the Adobo chicken was delicious. I just wish I had more.
The $8 sauteed shrimp were fantastic. However, we hoped we could have had more than 5 little shrimps.
The croquettes were a joke, though. TWO croquettes for $6, both the size of hush puppies from Long John Silvers, and both cold on the inside.
The service was what you'd expect from a college-aged server; neither friendly nor rude. Meh.
I'm glad we had a coupon, otherwise we did not eat anywhere near $30-worth of food.
I don't know there aren't more better reviews for this place - I think Thirteen Pins is really good! I've been here twice now, and left very full! I've never heard of Tapas for Filipino food, but I love Filipino food, so I knew I just had to check it out. The serving sizes are very large and filling, and I think definitely worth the money. The desserts are great too.
I love that it has a full bar and are open late - I actually don't really live near here, but would love to check out the place towards the evening.
Maybe you have to be Filipino to fully appreciate the place, but I totally feel homey in it, and all the people that work there and hangout there remind me of my family :)
In a city that doesn't have enough Filipino restaurants or stores, I am very happy to see that this place is open. I really hope more people come to enjoy the food and appreciate it's presence.
I would like chime in - HOW ABOUT A LITTLE CONTEXT PLEASE, PEOPLE??!
In a neighborhood currently served by a Golden Nugget AND Joe E's "Unforgettable" Lounge, you might do well to cut these folks a LITTLE slack. Â I'm not suggesting you give them a 5 star if you didn't have a great meal, or even a two star if you hated it, but for CHRISSAKE, some people just need to relax a bit. Â
I have absolutely no affiliation with these people, and found the service slightly klunky it that makes my review more "legit".
But please, people, stop treating every f-ing meal like you're Phil Vettel, because clearly, most of us are not (hint: it's "mussels", not "muscles"). Â And if you don't know who Phil Vettel is, then stick to reviewing gas stations and Starbucks, or write that favorable review of Golden Nugget that you've been putting off (yummm!! meatloaf included mashed potatoes AND gravy).
Take a good look around your neighborhood - with the exception of Smoque (how did our backwater neighborhood get such a great place???), we are pretty lucky, frankly, that a goddamn restaurant even OFFERS olive oil with the bread. Â Feel free to pack a bottle of truffle oil in your purse that your mother-in-law gave you for Christmas if it makes you feel better.
Again, vote with your dollars - if you didn't like it, don't come back. Â But if you're going to give a one-star review, for my money the review ought to include a detailed description of (a) vomiting or (b) gunshots.
Or else, we can all just look forward to the day the space is vacated, and becomes the neighborhood's 85th cell phone store, or another "salon" which also happens to offer "massage".
At first this place was very interesting... I didn't know it was a filipino restaurant serving tiny servings of "food!" I was a bit disappointed as the evening went on! Â Our server forgot to bring us our glasses for our water, then she forgot to bring out one of our orders, the sweet potato fries didn't look too appealing, my calamari tasted raw inside, our server was biting her nail while she was taking our orders, the amount of food isn't enough and it's not worth 6 bucks or 8 bucks if it's seafood!!! And i just wasn't full nor satisfied after I left.... I don't plan on coming back and I don't recommend it to anyone! SORRY 13 pins, I left there looking for another place to eat cuz I wasn't happy!!!oh well!
Review Source:Sometimes I go to a restaurant and I have some food that makes me say, "Eh, it wasn't bad, just average. Â I probably won't come here again." Â Thirteen Pins made me say, "OMG, that was bad. Â I'm feelingly physically ill. Â I will never go there again." Â I have never been to a restaurant that made me not want to eat again.
At first site you think the place looks pretty good. Â It has a fireplace, a giant mirror, a nice bar, televisions, a big screen with projector playing whatever is on the television, etc. Â The big screen seems a little silly, especially since there is a giant shadow from the lamps hanging from the ceiling. Â While a TV program plays here, a separate program plays on the other two televisions by the bar. Â Just in case that wasn't enough, there was music playing. Â The whole place looks like it's trying too hard and was distracting. Â
Our waiter suggested their Croquettes. Â He said that everyone seemed to like them very much. Â I love suggestions and we ordered them. Â We were told they had pork in them, but when it came out it was actually beef. Â Not only that, but the first time they came out they were frozen in the center. Â We sent them back.
We also ordered the baked salmon which was very good and cooked well. Â We ordered grilled veggies, which obviously you can't screw up. Â Last, we tried the Sisig which they describe on their menu as "Marinated crispy, diced pork seasoned with calamansi, vinegar, chili peppers and other spices." Â After tasting it, the best way I can describe it is pork cracklins that they put in a food processor that have been heated and mixed with cold onions and spices. Â I couldn't finish it, let alone stomach it. Â
After, everything wasn't settling right in my stomach. Â When I say "I felt physically ill," I wasn't kidding. Â It was a huge let down. Â If I knew then what I know now, I would have just eaten at the Golden Nugget across the street.
I was really excited when this place opened, since it's only a block from my house and I was hoping another restaurant would open in the old JazzIt Cafe space. I imagined myself becoming a regular.
It was a Tuesday night and there were maybe four tables taken, but there was some action movie projected on the west wall, with the sound turned way, way up. It would be hard to enjoy even the best food under these circumstances. Unfortunately, the food didn't even begin to approach acceptability, let alone compensate for that.
Using frozen crinkle cut sweet potato fries, clearly baked, is not a kink to work out. It is unforgivable. And they weren't even fully cooked. That wasn't the only item that was obviously a frozen product barely reheated and served - we hit cold and even ice at the center of a few items. Reheated Costco bulk food items while action movies invade your conversation is not a restaurant, it's a frat house.
I usually pay cash at small places to minimize the fees they have to pay. But this time we paid cash just so we could get out of there as quickly as possible. I hate saying this because I want small businesses to thrive, but not at the expense of being a decent place to eat.
I don't like giving poor reviews to nice people. The people here were nice... but I get the feeling they opened this place a few months before they were ready and perhaps have yet to catch up.. The menu is spotty and they list dishes they don't have.... What they do have was just ok. Nothing special or unique or even as good as other places in the hood. The server while being very nice and welcoming, was not knowledgeable about the menu or Filipino cuisine. The bathrooms are a mess.... the projection TV pointed in a way that it would shine in the eyes of 75% of the customers (if there were other customers there). We were there on a saturday night and they had the local news on projected 10' x 15' muted... why? All the food seemed to be deep fried in the same frier so it all sorta tasted the same.. like old oil. There are other Filipino places in the neighborhood that to do it all much better (see Ruby's on Montrose). I hope the poor reviews help the owners see their weaknesses so they improve. I only wish them luck with their business... but I feel they need to raise the bar a lot if they want to draw in returning customers. This neighborhood NEEDS some good new restaurants! With a lot of work, this could be one... but as is I can't see going back.
Review Source:As someone who studied in Spain, I was so excited to hear about a nearby tapas place opening up. Â I was very disappointed with the misleading advertising by calling this Filipino small plates restaurant a tapas restaurant. Â I think it could have some potential, but is suffering a bit of an identity crisis. Â I'm not sure if they got their liquor license yet, but when we were there, our only drink options were Coke, Diet Coke, and Sprite (and some funky tasting tap water). Â They may consider doing entrees of Flipino food and ditching the word "tapas" on their sign. Â They did have a friendly waitress, and I like their location. Â I hope they consider the changes to work up to their potential.
Review Source:Poor 13 pins, getting hated on. Â I completely disagree with the reviews it was dirty. Â Absolutely, untrue. Â The downfall of this place is it suffers from a little confusion and lack of patrons. Â So no, it's not serving Spanish tapas. Â They're Filipino small plates. Â And yes, it's fairly new and might not have worked all the kinks out. Â And maybe the water tasted a little funny, but they serve root beer, how cool is that? Â The way I see it is all this place needs to do is pick a direction and go for it. Â I'd love to see a real Filipino restaurant in my area. Â We have such a large population, but it's so hard to find pancit outside of my church's parties. Â 13 Pins, forget the liquor license, small plates, and nightclub theme decor. Â I say go wholly Filipino.
As for everyone else, don't go expecting Linea food or decor. Â It's a new mom and pop place that still needs to work out the kinks. Â Just check it out!
I have very mixed feelings about this place. It is nice having a restaurant near by since the options around the area are pretty limited.. they call the food tapas, but they have more Filipino inspired dishes. Tapas is a Spanish style food, so when we went there i was expecting Spanish (from Spain) food.
I don't feel like their ingredients are fresh. Shrimp items in Spain are usually prawn sized, the shrimp there taste like they are frozen and are very small. I don't mid peeling the shell off of my shrimp, like they always do in Spain, but it needs to be worth it.
The muscles, there are really good, definitely the best thing i ate. So is their croquetta, but it is really a potato dumpling, so once again, not Spanish.
I will definitely try it again, but I lived in Spain for a while and as far as Tapas, this is not it. Just a bit misleading is all.
