The only reason to say anything bad about Three Harmony is to keep you out, so there's more for me. I love their eggrolls, which to me, is the litmus test of good chinese food. Everything else I've ordered has these qualities: ample portions, good flavor, fresh taste. Their prices are still reasonable, which makes it worth weaving past a gang sentinel or 4 to get to the restaurant. Or you can always order delivery if you aren't up to it, or it's too late at night.
The staff is always friendly, never an argument over coupons, exemplary customer service given the ** they occasionally take in my neighborhood. For dine-in, it's really set up like a small hot dog stand with a couple of tables. OK in the afternoon, but not a date place. Carry out or delivery is your best bet.
The food is good, so don't get me wrong there. Â I find it delicious, and my personal favorite is probably the Schewan Beef (or however the hell that is spelled). Â Also the food is a good value, after tax the lunch special is $5.25 and usually fills me up (which is saying something, I'm a big man). Â However, the service is subpar. Â When you order over the phone there is no information on how long the food will take. Â I walked in one time to pick up my food and the main person who runs the register was sleeping. Â So its a good value for the food but jut make sure you know you'll only be paying for food, not service.
Review Source:BEST CHINESE TAKEOUT BY FAR.
Three Harmony looks like a dump, but the food is far from it. The service is speedy which is such a nice change of pace, because I hate waiting over 20 minutes for Chinese take out food. I usually get the lunch specials or dinner combos b/c the deal is so good! The amount of food can last you for couple meals.. it's that big! I usually get the shrimp almond ding or the beef and broccoli meals w/ crab rangoons. They're all super good. Their fried rice that comes with it is also delicious :) I've noticed that the lady at the front desk area has gotten significantly nicer/happier since I've started going here couple years ago :) I love it when she smiles at me when I go pick up my food. Makes me want to eat here more often, but a girl can only eat so much Chinese take out without crying in despair from not being able to fit in her jeans ;)
Just tried this place out, looking for a cheap quick bite. First thing, DO NOT plan on eating in during the winter. Outdoor temp is 24 degrees, temperature inside where you can sit and eat 24 degrees. It feels as if it was outdoor dining.
As for the food, good taste and not too greasy. Okay pricing, except the combination fried rice. $4.95 for small a bit expensive, but $6 for chop suey is a good value.

This is going to be short and sweet.
Beef Fried Rice: Just about perfect. Â Nice sized chucks of beef, not too fatty, and the rice wasn't dry. Â Good, solid flavor all around.
Cashew Chicken: Whoa, this is different from cashew chicken from other places. Â First, the sauce was brown. Â If memory serves me correctly, I've had creamier sauces with cashew chicken. Â Next, the dish didn't have chunks of chicken, but pounded slices. Â Big honking slices of chicken. Â Plus, it was loaded with cashews and veggies. This may have become my new favorite dish. Â
Egg rolls: Â The likely hood of a repeat order from a Chinese restaurant hangs solely on their egg rolls. Â Oh my goodness! Â These definitely pass the test. Â Good sized, not too oily and not too dry. Â Plus, it literally tastes like they spread peanut butter on the dough before rolling and frying it. Â Give me more please.
Three Harmony has definitely won the top spot in my Chinese take-out rotation.
Very average American-Chinese food. Portions are large (of course); soda is served in cans - entrees in styrofoam boxes. General Tso's chicken has a good flavor, but the texture is lacking...meat is moist, but soft. Lacks a good crunchy, fried exterior. Sauce is a bit heavy on everything, but that is to be expected with cheap take-out. Not much to say other than it is a safe bet for lunch specials around $5.50, if you're unfortunately in the area (ha). No complications afterward (double ha). A-ok.
PS: Despite there being a sign stating 'Cash Only, Under $10' - you can use cards, under ten, they just tag on an extra 50 cent fee. I've never tried 3H for delivery, but they do that.
Since i was just relocating from the southwest side, I already had my fave chinese spots and I am very particular  where I get my chinese food. Decided to try this place after work, normally my usual which is just a small order of shrimp fried rice, prices around 6 bucks. Surprisingly, their prices were much cheaper and reasonable, much less then what I had to pay at my usual spot. Ordered the shrimp fried rice, stuck with the basics, and was pleased with how it tasted. I will def be an returning customer whenever I crave some chinese food.
Review Source:This is the best chinese restaurant on the north side, at least in the Uptown-Edgewater section. Â I only go here when I have a taste for fresh, well cooked chinese food. Â They don't cook thai or vietnamese, they cook chinese. Â And the prices are right. Â They have small and large size. Â Try the Shrimp Kow, my favorite.
Review Source:Three Harmony is great for soul-soothing, comforting Americanized Chinese food. The prices are fair, the portions are large (I usually get 2-3 meals out of a large order), and overall, Â this place lives up to my culinary motto: Holes-in-the-wall make damn good food. Even after a move from Uptown to Lincoln Square, I still make a pilgrimage to Three Harmony when the cravings hit me.
Review Source:Since discovering them about 18 months ago, 3 Harmony has become my go-to delivery and take-out place, any time I want affordable, Americanized Chinese. The lunch and dinner specials are a great deal, and even though the dish I like most (shrimp with lobster sauce) isn't listed, they always seem willing to make it for me as a special. I would give them four stars, just for the fact that portions are huge and prices are low, Â (I love a hot, greasy, filling bargain!), but the fifth star is for actually having the best soups of any Chinese restaurant on the north side. Their WonTon in particular, is amazing. It is so full of pork, veggies, water chestnuts, shrimp, and tons of plump, lean, non-gristly wontons, that one container sometimes lasts me several days. The storefront is in a sketchy neighborhood, but I've dined in a few times, and like most Chinese restaurants, the food was even better when it was served fresh, on the premises. I've introduced many of my friends (all of whom thanked me for the tip) and will continue to recommend them as an excellent value.
Review Source:I could eat here 5 days a week and I'm sure there are weeks that I have, so I don't know why I waited so long to yelp about it!
Chicken with broccoli is light, healthy (I hope!) and delicious. The Crab Rangoon is jumbo and they don't skimp on the filling!
My only complaint is that they aren't open on Sunday's, which is when I really crave it the most.
So, as soon as I walk in the door, my roommate asks if I want chinese food from three harmony. Normally, I'm quick to join in with cheap, local eats... but I hesitated here, from memories of Three Harmony's past. The crab rangoon was very good, and came free with the $20+ we spent, but the entree wasn't worth the free appetizer. It's possible I always think I'm going for something new, though end up ordering the same thing, but whatever it is the primary ingredients are Onions and Slime. There's a little chicken, but it's mostly Onions and Slime with a few almonds on top. ugh.
Review Source:Never again. Â
Okay, so this used to be my go-to place for Americanized Chinese food. Â They are the only Chinese place within walking distance, the prices are reasonable, and the food is decent-to-good, depending on what you order. Â
I've always had a problem with places that charge a minimum amount for credit card orders, and this is one place that strictly enforces it. Â After being offered to pay a certain amount ($0.50?) to use my card for an order under their minimum amount, I decided to cancel my order instead. Â I understand why they won't budge on their practice, but I'm not budging on mine either. Â
The reason I will never go back to Three Harmony is another matter of principle. Â Last time I went in there for a lunch special, I brought cash. Â The amount of change due was $3.28. Â She hands me $3.25. Â I ask for the rest of my change and she stated that she gave me my change. Â I point out the $0.03 difference, and she had the gall to raise her voice at me while restating that she already gave me my change. Â
Sure, its only $0.03, but the way in which it was handled is enough to make me never place an order here again.
Best hole in the wall Chinese evar. Soups are flavorful, entrees are delicious and appetizers are freshly made. I ALWAYS order crab rangoon, pot stickers, and almost always get the Singapore (Mei Fun) Noodles. Other faves are the hot and sour soup, wonton soup, general tso's chicken, and the curry chicken.
Review Source:Yes. Even Chinese people crave egg foo young every now and then. Well, this Chinese person does, anyways.
I just NEEDED some greasy Chinese food. We started celebrating the weekend prematurely and had to pay for it all day Friday. Couch + DVR + Americanized Chinese food = great night in for the Mr and myself.
My go to was closed. Bummer. YELP TO THE RESCUE!
Had decent reviews. Delivered to us. Â
Ordering was easy and painless. Delivery was FAST (only 35 minutes from the time I ordered to my door step).
Appetizers: not great. Not great at all. Not even good really. We had the chicken wings and fried shrimp. Chicken wings were some of the worst I've ever had. Flavorless. My dude said they tasted like Shake 'n Bake but I've never had said product so I cannot verify that. Fried shrimp were also some of the worst I've ever had. They were 70% breading, 30% shrimp. We could have saved ourselves $11+ and skipped those.
Entrees: now were talking. We had egg foo young, fried rice and Mongolian beef. Gravy in the EFY was yum. Rice was perfect. Mongolian beef, while there were a couple chewy pieces, overall good.
Am I going to delete Silver Seafood off my phone after eating here? No. But then again, it's in a totally different league. It's like comparing Taco Bell to Rick Bayless. But it's good for what it's supposed to be: Americanized Chinese food. Give it a whirl, skip the appetizers.
I like to try new places, and after the first place I called was closed because of moving, and the second was closed on Tuesdays. Â I tried this place. Â I always try the beef lo mien, won ton soup and egg rolls at a new place, because if all 3 are good, I can live there.
The portions are great, and the prices are low. Â The egg rolls are really good, like the ones I use to get as a kid. Larger than an empty tp tube, and real crispy on the outside and a little doughy on the inside.
The beef lo mien was ok, the noodles were a little over done as they stuck and mashed together a little.  The quality and quantity of beef is what I am looking for, nice wide thin strips cooked medium/medium well, and plenty of them.  There  were some veggies mixed in which is normal, but what is not normal, at least to me is there was a little bit of heat to it.  I guess being a super taster I can over sensitive to the slightest flavor or spice.
The won ton soup is on par, I tend to like the ones with the darker broth that has a little more flavor. Â This one was on the lighter side with more vegetables than I am use to but this is the first time I had water chestnuts in it, and I love water chestnuts.
I'm kinda bummed they didn't include a menu for my next order since I couldn't find one on line.
I finally found a great cheap Chinese place last night. Â It's Three Harmony.
Their menu has this cool logo with jumping fish, and there's a great little blurb about how they have been in business for more than 20 years, and use the finest, freshest ingredients. An inexpensive Chinese place that seems to really take pride in quality? ok!
I got sweet and sour chicken, crab rangoons, beef fried rice and an egg roll.
The s&s chicken was good, it didn't smell like old grease like other places tend to. The red s&s sauce was good and had a good amount of bell pepper in it.
Crab rangoons were good, especially considering that I got 8 for 4.50. They werent over cooked or dried out like other places can be.
Beef fried rice was GREAT. Lots of places seem to put these gigantic slices of beef into beef fried rice. This place cut it up into smaller pieces the way I like. And the beef had a great flavor.
I'm not an egg roll guy, but it came free. Very good! Skin had a good texture and ingredients weren't too overwhelming. No strong cabbage/pork smell, but still flavorful. Nice
And here's the thing, all this quality for prices and portions even more generous than competing places in the area.
M-Th til 9:30
F-S til 10:30
I love that the large wonton soup comes with a generous portion of green veggies (some sort of cabbage and pea pods) and water chestnuts. Â It costs less than $4.00, has about 8 large wontons, and comes with a good-sized smattering of bbq pork. Â It's enough for two smallish lunches and the broth is always flavorful. Â It is absolutely my go-to soup when I'm sick.
Review Source:This is my go to place when I need a Chinese food take out. It's just a few blocks away from me so I usually pick it up. They have really good kung po. It's always nice and spicy which I like. Their beef fried rice is also very good. I usually go with pot stickers and crab rangoon for sides. I really like their pot stickers. There is are a lot of dish's on the menu that I have tried and would be happy to order again.
Review Source:Beef Chow Fun was good, but was a bit light on the beef. The wife threw out the Chicken Lo Mein after a few fork fulls.. and I quote.. "Terrible!!" The pot stickers were good, a bit doughy but the flavor was above par. Egg rolls has a strange sweetness to them, not my favorite but I can see how some people might enjoy that.
Overall it was decent, and the order taking and delivery were great.
I ordered one of the dinner combos and some crab rangoon. Â Twenty minutes later I was sitting at my table eating. Â
The chicken & broccoli was great and the fried rice was good too. Â The crab rangoon was decent but it was the sweet variety. Â The hunt for good crab rangoon that isn't sweet continues...
Why do I always try to call Shanghai Inn on a Monday??
Well I did it again and was hungry enough for Chinese food to search for a new restaurant. Three Harmony totally saved the day!
-Large portions, cheap prices
-LOVED the vegetable fried rice and beef with broccoli I ordered
-Delivery was fast and courteous
The eggroll was okay, it was really huge and the fried dough layer was very thick. I love eggrolls so 4/5 stars. I'll order from them again!
I was cold and hungry and in a hurry. I was relieved to find this place. I ordered the hot and sour soup from the menu on the wall. The staff charged me the 3.75. As I'm waiting for my soup, I look at the paper menu, and notice soup comes in 2 sizes, small and large. Staff did not offer me the small option. I feel no remorse in giving them two stars because apparently they feel no remorse in taking advantage of my ignorance that they offer a smaller size. Do not play me like that.
Perhaps this wouldn't be such a problem if the soup wasn't one of the grosser things I've eaten lately. It was thick, like gravy. I thought, "there has to be more than a little cornstarch in here...or something else...I don't even want to know what it is..." I ate a few bites, stirred it up a bit, found some nice pieces of tofu and then a piece of pork. I know because I tasted it. I thought, "since when does hot and sour have pork in it?" But later I googled and its a common ingredient in some regions. I either never knew or never had that type of hot and sour. The hot and sour I've eaten is vegetarian (or I thought).
I was getting more and more put off by the soup and had to get back to work so I wrapped it up and put it in the fridge when I got back. Today I opened the fridge to throw it out, and looked in the clear container. The soup was solid. Not frozen, there was nothing wrong with the fridge, but it was a solid mass in the container. I opened it up and poked at it and it had the consistency of a very hearty jello mold.
Have you ever, in your entire life, put soup in the refrigerator overnight and it's like jello the next day? I don't know what I ate yesterday.
After reading the reviews on yelp, and mulling over it, I decided to order from here, just because its not too far from my house and I had picked up a menu already for when I might need it.
I order pepper beef and egg rolls and I'm most definitely had better. Many reviewers called it "Americanized Chinese food", I've had that before and this isn't it. The egg rolls taste a little weird, perhaps it's the pieces of shrimp in them. The pepper beef is okay, but not the best I've had, the sause tastes a little bland and it has soft black seeds in it that look a little like watermelon seeds. Something I've never seen in pepper beef before. And no fortune cookie with my meal? I mean what kind of establishment is this!
Maybe other things on their menu are okay and they are pretty fast, but overall I feel I wasted my money, It would take a lot for me to order from them again.
Oh P.S. they charged me 35cents, because my order was under ten dollars and I paid with debt??????
Three Harmony is standard Americanized Chinese food - which I am into, dont get me wrong. Â The crab rangoon is heavenly and I have always enjoyed the Vegetable Lo Mein. Â Honestly, that's my staple Chinese food meal, so I can't say too much about the rest of their food.
They give you a lot of food for your money and the family who own it seem like adorable people.
The food is great, but just dont expect anything extraordinary.
This is going to be my most useless review ever.
I used to order from Three Harmony fairly frequently, but then they got really erratic about when they would answer their phone. Did I only call on Sundays? But recently, tired of my stand-by Chinese place and spurred by Yelp reviews, I ordered again from Three Harmony.
I don't remember anything about my meal. Even though I had leftovers that lasted me for several days. Nothing.
Sorry Three Harmony; that makes you average.
Again Three Happiness/Harmony for the win.
What to do with little time and a hungry/frugal  family that thinks Americanese food is "ethnic?"
Order Three Happiness. Quick, fast, cheap, and as American as apple pie.
Crab rangoon, egg rolls, Three Harmony, Happy Family and a Sesame Chicken later we were all up to our eyeballs in good honest MSG and family togetherness.
Well done, well done.
I'm nearly certain that someone on Yelp recommended Three Harmony to me. Whoever you are, thank you! TH won't be seeing much of me these days as I am attempting to shrink. That being said, it has been my go to Chinese play for the last several months. The large chicken fried rice is enough to last me several meals. The egg rolls are always fresh and crispy. The woman who takes orders is short with you on the phone but really a nice woman. There's only a few, hard orange plastic booths, so I would not recommend eating inside. Get takeout and you'll be just fine!
The neighborhood is not so great like another person mentioned, but I have never, ever felt unsafe picking up my food from here. There is almost always parking in the lot too.
I used to eat here once a week before I gave up carbs. If you can dodge the Gangs and Crackheads to get to the door it is well worth it. The Fried rice is so good, not greasy, just right. The sesame chicken has always been my go to. I know lame, but so good.
This place would get so much more business if you didn't have to stake out and plan your entrance and exit to avoid getting capped.
The people who run it are great, and food is always good. Did I mention the Crackheads?
Few Chinese places can rival Three Harmony's lunch specials for value. Â For $4.75 you can pretty much get whatever's on the menu (just ask first) freshly prepared with a big portion of fried rice, an egg roll, and a drink. Â Unless you're a pig, you should have enough left over for dinner (or an hour later, wokka wokka!)
Caveat: the beef here isn't the best quality--go with the pork or chicken instead. Â The shrimp dishes taste ok but you get about three shrimps per order.
Good food prepared fresh and very cheap. Â I used to frequent this place a ton, back when I was a poor grad student on a tight budget and lived in Uptown. Â The quality of the food was always consistent, prepared fresh when you order and received piping hot. Â
One of my favorites was the chicken almond ding made with white meat chicken, tons of stir fry veggies in a clear broth gravy. Â Highly recommend this place if you are on a budget and/or want to eat some good Chinese food. Â Btw, their lunch specials are amazing. Â You get a choice of entree, choice for white or shrimp fried rice(the real kind), egg roll and a drink for around $5! Â The quality of the food here beats your typical Chinese food vendor at the mall like Panda Express etc. Â If you are in Uptown, give this place a try. Â You won't be disappointed.
With all the Thai and Vietnamese restaurants in Uptown, Three Harmony is a good spot if you want basic Chinese take out. Â Which is a godsend for my wife, since I cannot convince her to hit the Thai and Vietnamese joints yet.
The sesame chicken was good and exactly what I expected. Â Nice size portion too. Â Crab Rangoon is standard fare, but they give you 6 or 7 in an order.
Yummy! Â This is some of the best Chinese Food I have had in the city. Â The food was delivered EXTREMELY hot, which is a nice change of pace. Â All of the ingredients were really fresh and crisp. Â It didn't seem like anything came out of a can. Â Very high quality, and very delicious!
