Terrible food. Great view. Friendly service. Â The fried shrimp consisted of heavily breaded popcorn shrimp sliced in half to mimic butterfly shrimp. I had no idea a popcorn shrimp could be butterflied and the manufacturers ability to mold the breading into a large 2" diameter circle defies physics. Â The shrimp was dry, stringy and probably ruined by frostburn - before it had even been breaded. The breading wasn't edible. I regret eating the three that I dissected and ate. Â The green beans tasted awful. I've had less worse food in a bad school cafeteria. The French Fries were good. The cream of crab soup looked odd but tasted neither good nor bad. The crab cakes were made from a variety of different types of crab meat - not lump - and was tasteless. The coleslaw wasn't any good. The hamburger wasn't good either.
The restaurant has a nice deck with picnic tables and you can enjoy watching the Wednesday night sailboat races.
It's a shame the food is so abominable with such a relaxing location and friendly service.
3 stars is about right for this spot. Â The food, drinks and service are about average. Â The only reason this place is doable is that the location is out of this world, every seat is a great seat with water view. Â I have been here multiple times and the only thing I had that was better than average was the softshell crab sandwich.
Review Source:I've been to Thursdays plenty of times in recent years, and I have to say, like most other yelpers, that the location of this place deserves five stars without a doubt. Â It's right on the West River in Galesville, which is peaceful enough, as long as heavy drinkers/boaters don't ruin it. Â I have come to this place by the water before, which is a recommended experience (if you can find a slip for your boat). Â The food here is average though. Â I have had good experiences with the tuna steak, mixed experiences with the wings, and average experiences with the rest of the cuisine.
Review Source:The good: the view/location is exactly what you want from a casual waterfront crabhouse/bar. Staff is friendly. Their coconut shrimp were delightful: large, plump, fresh, and with the right amount of fry and coconut.
The not-so-good: the tuna app. and cup o' Maryland crab soup were just ok, especially for the prices ($12 and $6). I probably would not order them again. Everything else we ordered was subpar, from the seafood platter to the crabcake. This might have been our fault; at a place like this, you really ought to just order steamed crabs. After dinner, I was hoping the Nutty Buddy, listed first on the dessert menu, was homemade like at many other MD crabhouses. Nope. Went back a few nights later for a beer, and there was nothing on draft- just bottled corona and bud light lime. You have indoor and outdoor bars, and this is your beer selection?
Maybe the third time will be the charm. If the crabs and cheap draft beer are available and measure up, I'll review again. But I can't recommend this place for anything else.
Great view, friendly staff, but this is a dockside bar & restaurant; not high-end. The food was not good, but did not have the crabs or shrimp...they LOOKED good, but who knows. Â One thing is that you be prepared to duck on a Friday night, bet there are loads of drunk 'yahties' on the weekends.
Review Source:(Review from May 2010 via iphone - finally posted)
Great views from a dockside bar, good service & cold beer. The good ends there - all our entries were too salty. Broiled crab cakes didn't have a lot of filler but no lump backfin and way too salty. Soft shell crabs came fried (I was surprised - thought they would be sauteed. Guess server didn't mention since it was a special). Heavily breaded and again too salty to enjoy. Sides of carrots, cole slaw, and fries were all just average and not worth eating. Most clientele local good ol' boys enjoying the beer. If you are looking for good seafood, avoid this place.
Have been many times,,,,,,the last the Saturday before Mother's Day. We sat outside,, the view is fantastic and there is always boat traffic to keep you occupied. Â Â Â Our server, din't catch his name, was right on time,,,,,,ordered the crabs and my Husband had the Grilled Tuna sandwich , which he usually gets,,,,,,,,,crabs were cooked well tasted great for this early in the season,,,,,,,,,He enjoyed the sandwich like always, Will be back many times...
Review Source:Really good view of the water and has a bar outside where you can get a drink and a show literally (from the locals) just don't expect this to be a classy joint with annapolis casual atmosphere- far from it.  I guess my first experience there was on an off night, our server was really nice and attentive but, the crowd there that night was a little rough, I felt bad for that sections server and the manager...we came on a night when there were 3 redneck families enjoying crabs, drinking beer and apparently not enjoying each others company and cursing each other out belching and slapping /punching each other in the arm and spitting on the deck (gross)- the manager was trying to calm them down. the best he could w/o making them irrate.  We moved inside which it's like the western bar meets new orleans with a peacock green wall, a little dim lit but, nice.  I ordered their cream of crab which had maybe a teaspoon of crabmeat and lots of sherry and cream, it was okay.  A sigh of relief came when my fried shrimp came out they were jumbo and delicious. I tried  a bite of my friends crabcake which was very egg/filler (so I am glad I didn't go with that).  They have Southern fried catfish which I think will be my next try.  The bartenders make strong drinks so have a DD.  Though I still like next door and Mikes Crabhouse better, I would still go there once in a blue moon.
Review Source:It's a 5 star location with 3 star food, hence the 4 star rating. Â I had the Fried Soft Shell Crab platter. Â Very decent, but not the greatest. Â Good homemade tartar sauce, though. Â My dining partner in crime had the Shrimp Fajitas. Â They were a little above average.
I wanted to order crabs, but they only had smalls and mediums on our visit. Â Best to call ahead if that's what you're going for. Â
The Maryland Crab soup was lacking. Â It needed to be zippier and the crab had been trolling around in that broth for a mightly long time. Â Sides were good, including a kick-butt jalapeno corn bread. Â Yummo. Â
Service was exemplary, which is surprising for dockside dining. Â
The clientele look like they came from a casting call for Easy Rider, mixed with a plethora of Chesapeake Bay locals who all arrive by boat. Â
Bikers, boaters and a gentle breeze. Â That's the perfect Sunday afternoon.
I feel like I'm giving up the goods on my favorite hideaway with this review.
Thursday's is a little local gem located on the West River in Anne Arundel County, easily accessable by water...and not a bad drive from Washington DC or Baltimore either.
If you're driving in, SLOW DOWN as you approach Galesville proper. It's a picturesque little town worth exploring. And the police will nab you if come racing up the road.
Park in the lot to the right and walk up the long pier to the restaurant/bar/ and outside Tiki Bar. Enjoy the plethora of boats, large and small, docked all around. (if you're lucky, the Holy Guacamole might be pulled up outside), pet the friendly water dogs that are snoozing about the outside bar, then decide if you want to come inside, or eat ourside. Both are good choices...although if you're coming for the ever popular crabfeast, outside is best. Afterall, what is a crabfeast without flies?
The crab soup is wonderful, the salads and sides are basic but plentiful and the snow crab special is worth ordering. You won't leave hungry and the prices are reasonable.
If you don't like loud company, then stay home. It gets boisterous in Thursday's, but it's usually the good kind. Most folks are local and know one another, so you're probably not going to have a quiet dining experience. And if you go in the Fall, and the Ravens are playing...bring your earplugs. :)
Thursday's has added a great little Tiki Bar outside that boasts a fantastic view of the river and the cove. The prices, again, are reasonable, the beers and drinks are plenty and the bartenders are fantastic and friendly. Tip them well, they pay attention and take very good care of their charges.
