Food Only Review
The Tilted Kilt has a location off of the 9th street light rail station, so me and my party decided to get food here. We decided to get potato skins and irish nachos for appetizers, and for my main course I decided to get the Braveheart Chopped Salad (comprised of lettuce, turkey, bacon, and mozzarella cheese). So the potato skins were nothing really special. The irish nachos were not up to my standards for irish nachos. Traditionally irish nachos should be sliced potatoes covered in cheese, scallions, and bacon. The tilted kilt had potato chips with fake bacon. The salad was fresh, but the portions can be a bit smaller than usual.
The tilted kilt has plenty on tap, and also specialize in their shakers (cocktails in mason jars). I had the sailor punch. The drink had sailor jerrys rum, orange three olives vodka, lime sour, sprite, and some peach puree. The drink looked really good on the menu, but looked kinda blah when it came out. It tasted alright, a little light on the alcohol in general.
The main attraction for this eatery are the hooter like girls that attend to you. Push up bras, short kilts, high socks. There are very cute girls, but the food doesn't make up for it. My recommendation: If you want better food, go to hooters. Cool looking place to go to if you just want a drink.
First and foremost, you can forget trying to find parking on the Hoboken side, seeing that the spots around the area are reserved for residents, which means you need a particular permit just to park there. Instead, you're better off driving to the Heights in Jersey City and take the elevator all the way down to the street level.
So what can I say about Tilted Kilt except that it's like Hooters, but the girls working there wear Irish Kilt skirts and blouses that show off their stomachs. Some can argue that it might look trashy, but hey, it's all about the food and experience.
We sat and ate at the bar, but sad to say, it was a little bit dirty with leftover pint glasses - though, to be fair, it seemed as though they were understaffed for the night. The restaurant boasts an open design, which means that you can see into the kitchen area from anywhere inside of the restaurant. Also, there's a long beer hall like table near the bar which seems to accommodate larger parties.
I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. However, it took forever (probably 20 minutes) for them to make and serve it. Needless to say, it's excessively long for a relatively easy meal to cook, but like as I've said, they seemed understaffed for the night. Despite the long wait for the meal, I'm pleased to say that the sandwich was fresh and super tasty. It was cooked to perfection and the portioning was excellent. Better yet, the sweet potato fries had a good crisp to them and didn't have that typical over friend appearance - so it was just perfect every way I looked at it.
Sure, I had to endure a long wait, but the taste and quality of the food surely made up for it. And heck yes, I'd definitely come back to check this place out - not to mention that it's an ideal place for watching sporting events and whatnot.
If you are young and want to drink and stare at the waitresses in skimpy outfits, go here. If you are at all interested in good food to go along with it, move on. At best, the restaurant operates as a franchise whereby none of the food is really cooked from scratch here, just ready-made and brought in by trucks and  cooked on premises. The best thing on the menu are probably the burgers but I can name many other places nearby for better.
Review Source:Ok food with a nice view. I think the waitresses here are how Hooters pictures itself but this place actually gets it right. All the girls there are dressed to just the right degree of skanky-ness to distract you from the decent bar food. Our waitress also mastered the fake giggle at stupid jokes to make enough idiot meatheads think that these girls are into them.
Review Source:Went here last night for the second time and was not impressed.
The wait staff is really slow and just could get our order correct. Â We ordered wings and beers to start with. Â Our beers came out 15 minutes and the waitress completely forgot to put in our order of wings. Â We had to remind her after we got our entree. Â To top it off they had some sort of trivia Tuesday event going on which made it impossible to enjoy the basketball game.
The food isn't that great either. Â Burger (french burger with onions and mushrooms) was as described but nothing spectacular. Â Wings were not good at all. Â Sauce was very generic and didn't have much flavor (we got medium heat)
To top it off the waitress just couldn't understand and figure out how to calculate our Living Social voucher. Â We had to explain it and have her redo it and she still got it wrong.
This place is bigger than I thought it would be - and brighter. A friendly atmosphere and yes, the waitresses all wear red plaid mini skirts and a short white top with their bras sticking out. When you finally stop staring, you will begin to notice the walls that are plastered with TV screens. It is a little weird that it is right next to a pre-school and a doggie day care.
Review Source:Awesome place to watch a game, or 12.
Terrible location, but this could actually be a plus. Â Far enough "uptown," that it won't draw the same crowd as sports bars near the Path, and far enough west, it's a trek for anyone that lives within a couple blocks of Washington. Â
Moderately priced drinks, although the night I visited I had to order 3 different whiskeys before I found one they had in stock... whoops.
My wife and I stumbled across this place because we had to take my son to MyGym in Hoboken.  We took the Light Rail over to 9th Street, and as soon as you step off the train, the Tilted Kilt is right in front of your face.  We escorted my son to his class, and decided to walk back over the Titled Kilt  to kill an hour's worth of time, and help ourselves to a beer and appetizer.  Whenever there's a MyGym class, the Tilted Kilt is our go-to spot.
Good apps, decent food, and nice beer selection. Â I've gone to this location a few times now; even held our year-end fantasy football party here (our server, Rachel, by the way, was very accommodating and attentive). Â Nice spot to watch a game and then some ;). Â I highly recommend the TK Irish Nachos, the beer-battered onion rings, and also the Drunken Clams. Â These suckers are steamed in beer, and have a nice, spicy kick to them. Â The only other menu item I've had (other than 'da beers') is the 'French, I mean Irish Dip' sandwich. Â It wasn't bad. Â You really didn't need the au jus that it came with because the sandwich was tasty enough.
Decent food, nice vibe, friendly/attentive bartenders and wait staff, and a dope spot to catch a game. Â I'm a fan of TK.....
Note to all you real estate investors: Â Property values on the west side of hoboken will rise as a result of the Tilted Kilt. Â
1) Â it's a rather large sports bar with big TVs all over, and one huge nine-monitor job near the bar.
2) Great beer selection with these big tube tap things that you can order
3) I noticed people complain about the food. Â I thought it was very solid deep fried awesome game watching food, and spicy hot sauces. Â not much to complain about.
4) Not sure how to word this without coming across as creepy, so I'll leave it alone.
5) its not downtown hoboken so you can more of a local crowd and people into sports, and not the db types that tend to invade hoboken on weekends.
The only complaint I had is the waitresses were a bit overwhelmed on a football day and seemed to bring out food in the wrong order (meals, apps and such).
I don't know what to say about this place really. It's a hooters theme, beer and bar food with some servers that are easy on the eyes. Their TV setup is great including one behind the bathroom mirror which is brilliant. I only really frequent this place for Rutgers games which has a great atmosphere. Aside from that it's a little off the beaten path except for being directly on the light rail station @9th St.
Review Source:Grease bomb. Yeah the waitresses are nice to look at but the food sucks. Fried crap. I had the French dip and it was grade D but edible meat. The bar has a ton of variety of beers but who cares you're in Hoboken. Tons of other bars. And it's off the beaten path. Not worth going. Service was crappy too and we went when nothing was happening. Imagine if it was Sunday during football season.
Review Source:Not a fan of this place, as the service was always atrocious and the food was always meh. Note that my review is reflective of the first 4 months or so that it was open, and that I'm sure they've improved by now.
At first, I felt that the opening was rushed, with the waitresses helplessly underprepared and uninformed. They were trying, probably too hard, to overcompensate with the "allure" of the restaurant to cover their mistakes.
They have a decent beer selection - but the Titled Kilt is an example where more does not always equal better. Having every Budweiser, Coors, and Miller product imaginable (and where your craftiest beer is a Sam Adams seasonal) is not going to make a beer fan happy. But, I suppose most people aren't here for that - most attendees just want to have as many Bud Lights during the course of the game as they can.
The food is standard pub, and so, not very good. They do have a few decent options - their pizzas are actually pretty tasty: crispy crust, good flavors. And they do pretty well not to screw up a burger or wrap. But avoid the appetizers - they are hastily thrown together (especially any variety of their nachos) and are deeply unsatisfying. Also - and this is more of a reflection on the staff - be prepared to have some part of your order messed up if you request any changes to your food as presented on the menu. Your dressing will not come on the side.
Worth a try, I suppose, but I would never make the trip out of the way (at least for most of Hoboken) to go back.
Saw the Tilted Kilt as I rode the light rail. I was looking for a pub to grab some food and watch some football. I had some wings, a glass of cold beer, and their Gaelic chicken dish. Waitress said it was house favorite. I enjoyed it. Place was loud. They definitely could have turned down the music a bit. Food was good. All I was looking for was pub food. Was not expecting anything else. They could use some soup or chowder choices on the menu.. Service was fine. Yes the waitresses were very pretty. I will go back.
Review Source:I came here last night with a friend for the first time. We started with an order of wings with the tilted sauce. The wings were very very good. I would highly recommend them. For our entrée we both ordered burgers, again very good. However, the reason I am giving it 3 stars is due to our waitress. I get it, it's a themed restaurant and the waitresses wear skimpy outfits and flit and sit with you. But our waitress for some reason was extremely awkward and made our whole dining experience pretty weird. It was very uncomfortable. It was kind of like running into someone you went to high school with who you never spoke to, yet they are trying to be your friend now. I think if we had another waitress that we had better "chemistry" with it would have been a better experience.
Review Source:100 times better than hooters, First of all the wings are effing amazingg!!! Good selection of beers, the waitresses are actually pretty and very attentive unlike other pubs they ignore you. Overall good place to come watch football with beers and wings. No parking lot but there is parking around this area.
Review Source:The kilt is a good time for sports events......the owner is usually there and is a cool guy, listens to you about what you would want to complain about.....the food is pretty good.......I like the chicken fried chicken......and the wings.......service is cool, the girls are fun and very cool. I recommend a stop in for a good time.
Review Source:We have been here a few times, most recently to watch some football. If you can, you may want to take public transportation because finding non resident parking is next to impossible. (we actually chanced it on our first visit -- parking in a resident only spot, and by the time that we returned the parking meter maid was on the street but hadn't reached our car yet -- VICTORY!!!!) They have good drink specials and above average bar food. The staff is friendly (if not a little AHEM scantily clad) but can run a little slow. For what it is - a more "upscale" hooters (Did I really just use those two words in the same sentence?? lol) -- it's pretty solid.
Review Source:I organized a mini Rutgers football viewing party with my friends here. It was announced that this place is the official NNJ for Rutgers game. A lot of Rutgers people and free swag here. The DJ was over killed. We could not talk understand what we were saying. But, they did have game audio on when the DJ was not dropping his dubstep.
Parking may be an issue. I do not know my way around this area. There is a light rail station but never used it.
The waitresses are super friendly. I know it's an act like at the strip joints. I played bad cop at out table and they kept killing me with niceness. Very strange yet entertaining.
The beer deals are great but the food is average at best.
I'm glad RU won that night or the our waitress would have gotten a bad tip :P
GO RU!!!!!
Let's start with the good. Â Excellent food, plenty of TVs, nice large drinks, decent price. Â Now the bad....server was horrendous. Â I brought a group of people here for a planned happy hour for Thursday Night football. Â To the owner's credit, he gave us great drink and good specials. Â However, service was so lousy that we could not really take advantage of them. Â I was often told by the group that it took up to 30 min to get a beer. Â It was really disappoint because of the highlights I mentioned earlier. Â Two stars for now, but I may give this place another chance on my own before I invite a group back.
Review Source:Very solid sports bar in Hoboken. Â Saw some reviews comparing this to Hooters. Â No way. Â Provocatively dressed? A little. Â Cheesy orange polyester shorts? Â No. Â This place definitely has a different feel. Â The food was very solid. Â The boneless wings had kick. Â The French Dip sandwich was good, though the dip was a bit bland. Came here for the Rutgers game. Â A touch surprised the owner, a Rutgers alum, didn't come around. Â All in all a very good experience.
Review Source:Is this place for real? I wasn't at all "offended" like some other reviewers by what the staff wore here. Â What really ticked me off was that they had scheduled a fight night and then cancelled it without posting the cancellation online anywhere. Â First of all, this place is not at all conveniently located so we took a cab there only to find out that they decided to cancel showing the fight to show college football. Really? How about you don't advertise something you're not going to do then? The worse part was that the staff were really flippant about their response. Â We ended up leaving but going to another bar in town to watch the fight. Â Fight fans, do NOT waste your time going here.
Review Source:Quite a bit of Chesty McBooberness in this place.
If you find Hooters offensive, I suggest you avoid the Tilted Kilt at any and all costs. Â If not - head here for a big, frosty beer, some really good bar food, and more TVs than you would ever need in one place.
Doesn't matter where you sit - you should be able to see at least three different TVs, all playing some variety of sports (or in the case of a few weeks ago, the Olympics). Â
Touting itself as an Irish sports bar / pub / thing ... The Tilted Kilt waitresses all wear short, plaid skirts and tight, revealing tight small tight shirts. Â They are all really nice and already recognize my girlfriend and I, since we live 4 floors above the restaurant we go in fairly often. Â (Metrostop residents get 50% off their total bill on Mondays, which is an absolute steal.) Â If you come alone or in a group of guys, sometimes they sit and chat with you. Â They've never done that to us, but it seems pretty common.
The food is actually really good for what it is - great nachos, quesadillas, salads, and the beautiful, beautiful plate of fish tacos (with lightly fried white fish) is what I usually order on Mondays. Â Top that off with a frosty 20oz of whatever you please...and it's going to be a great night.
I've also noticed tables sharing what look like obscenely tall & wide beakers of beer (with a tap on the end, I'm sure they have a name) NEXT TO tables that are using a laptop & projector to do a fantasy football draft party.
I'd assume the same technology could be used for a business presentation - and the same beverages.
Combine the food, the drinks, the resident discount, and the "atmosphere" .. yeah, I'll be back.
Curiosity from an article peaked my interest to come here around the corner from my house. Cheap food for the quality. Â Average prices for boos.
Food was pretty decent and was filling. Â The black and blue burger was made from pretty good meat, but it's a burger. Â Comes with fries. Â Food came out pretty quick.
Average bar drafts.
Now the people serving :-/ I am not a fan of how they sat next to me when I am trying to eat. Â I am a fan of the kilts, kinda.
I went here on a Friday at 6:30 and expected it to be busier. There were a decent amount of tables filled, but now overcrowded.
Waitresses are scantily clad like a Hooters, but they and the restaurant are classier. Just because I say classier, don't expect fine dining. It's still a sports bar with a "let's drink, and eat, and have a good time" atmosphere.
We ordered the garlic fries as an appetizer and they were AMAZING! When my own meal came with fries, I was sad I had to switch back to the regular.
I ordered the Sloppy Jane sandwich. TRY IT! very good.
I still think having only scantily clad girls as waitresses is sexist and really shouldn't be allowed. But other than that, I enjoyed myself, my beer, and my food.
Unfortunately, I did not realize this was a "breastaurant". At first seeing the location I was happy to have a bar so close to home at the bottom of the hill, but the food and beer were a disappointment, it seems they are more interested in selling women's bodies as entertainment (see "casting calls" for waitstaff who can "be committed to playing the Kilt Girl role". I shudder to think what that means the women are supposed to endure as part of their "role").
Only afterward did I realize this was a chain restaurant. No offense to the women that work there, but I will never come back to this place until it's a nice local joint rather than a scottish hooters. I prefer my food without a side of sexual objectification. Overall, disappointing because this location could really be a great spot if it had the right business.
I'd been to one other Tilted Kilt location in Myrtle Beach when they had their opening weekend. Â That location is huge and has a great atmosphere.
Went to check out this location last weekend with a few friends and I have to admit I was disappointed. Â The whole place was very small and the bar had limited space as well. Â There are almost too many tv's in at the place because with so many big tv's on the room gets VERY hot. Â The best part was the happy hour on Saturday from 12-4 which included $3 domestics (BL, Bud, CL, etc.) and the $5 wings/irish nachos. Â The wings weren't the best I've ever had but for $5 they were doable and we were starving anyway. Â You can get them as traditional i.e. fried or grilled, both were pretty good. Â The Irish nachos were thin cut potato chips smothered with nacho cheese, ground beef, tomatoes and sour cream. They were okay and anything but healthy unfortunately.
Went on a Thursday night during March Madness, so it was pretty crowded. Drink specials were great, the food was SO good! I had fish & chips which were very good - moist fish, not too greasy, served with plenty of tartar sauce & malt vinager for the fries. Everyone else had pizza which was very tasty. Not a 5 star review because food & drinks were a LITTLE slow in coming out. A true sports bar with good food & drink? I'll definitely be back!!!
Review Source:After hearing some good reviews from my friends that went a couple weeks ago, I finally had a chance to try this place out on Friday. Â Overall, I was impressed. Â I was surprised that for a Friday night it was not busy, but part of that may be it's location.
I had the fish and chips there, and boy was that good. Â The fish was flaky and perfectly fried, and much more filling than I thought it was going to be. Â I was not a fan of the coleslaw though. Â While it tasted good, it had way to much mayo in it to be worth eat more than a bite or two of it.
The  service was great.  Our waitress was very friendly, which is good.  While I like that they promote their specials, drinks, and appetizers, it did get a little annoying when afterwards they effectively say, "So you're going to get once of these right?".  I'm immediately reminded of the new Looney Tunes Show episode where Porky Pig just agrees with the waitress on everything that he didn't want/need and Bugs promptly shaking his head in disapproval. And I respond, "I just want a pint and the fish and chips thank you".
Overall, the atmosphere is nice. Â With the TVs though, I expect it to be another sports bar in Hoboken at times.
I would definitely go back, and since it's in Hoboken, it's not like I gotta travel far from the main street to get there (about 10 min walk from Washington St). Â If you live near the Light Rail, this place is right off the 9th Street station.
Whether it be from a sports bar perspective, quality of bar food, drink selection, location or overall atmosphere - this place hits a home run. Â Located right next the the light rail stop, it's a fantastic place for happy hour, dinner or to catch your favorite football team play on Sundays. Â The ambiance is definitely sports related with at least 5 TV's within every eye-roll and a huge 9-panel screen and 100+" drop down projector screen for those main events. Â Seems like they have UFC and other special events there, so I asked the owner if they would be willing to open early for Rugby or Soccer games and he said "we are willing to accommodate all sports fans whenever their event's occur". Â There is also a large private patio out front that would be perfect for special events or just outside seating in the nicer weather and the owner mentioned that is exactly what it is there for...
The food is an Irish themed bar, so there are all the staples (Guinness Stew, etc) and a few things on the lighter side... I had the italian herb grilled chicken and it was perfectly cooked and very tasty. Â To add to the food highlights, there prices are quite reasonable for the Hoboken area and it's the only bar/restaurant need my friend's apartment - so they really didn't have to anything special to attract traffic, but they did. Â Very well priced happy hours and a nice selection of beers on tap (of course I went with a Guinness) makes this a no-brainer stop.
They have only been open for a month or two, so I am guessing the previous bad reviews were based on "newness" and I recommend they try the place again. Â I don't live in Hoboken, but I think this would be a great place for a Yelp Event... I am sure the owner would be happy to rope off the outside area or a nice area inside and give Yelpers a chance to experience the Titled Kilt at its best. Â Hopefully the Hoboken Elite read my review and give it a shot.
Happy Yelping!
I'm a former Hoboken resident and visit my old roommate often, so we were looking for a new spot to check out on a Sat night. Â Obviously the draw here is the good-looking, scantily clad waitresses, which they were.
The setup inside is pub-style, but everything's very new looking, state of the art TVs, etc. Â It almost seemed, though, like it didn't match for the type of place whose waitresses would be dressed in school girl outfits.
We all had wings, medium heat flavor, and they were just OK--big, but not crispy, not amazing flavor. Â It was $9.99 for a full order (8 to 10) or $14.99 for a double order (about 20). Â
The service was OK. Â Our waitress was very friendly, twice sitting down at the open seat at our table just to chat with us.
If you're with a group of guys, this is a decent place to grab a few beers ($5 apiece for 20 oz. Miller Lites), eat some wings, and watch games. Â If I ever go back again, it'll be for Sunday football.
It was described to me as the "Scottish Hooters", and in that capacity it did not disappoint. Â There were plenty of pretty waitresses running around school-girlish looking "kilts". Â Running being the key word here. Â They were totally inexperienced and unorganized. Â The staff seemed to function in total chaos. Â We were sitting pretty close to the waitress station and we could hear them bickering with each other. Â Our waitress wasn't using a notepad, and her memory was so bad that she just walked away from our table mid-order to enter our beer selections into the computer so she wouldn't forget them. Â Somehow she still got the order wrong. Â The same thing happened with our appetizers. Â I guess i shouldn't complain, because they duplicated our order in the system a few times resulting in a free order of wings and a few free beers. Â I can't totally blame the waitresses since the place is brand new and there are bound to be some growing pains. Â
We didn't eat much. Â Just some orders of chicken wings, and chicken fingers for the table. Â Both were pretty terrible. Â Dry, overcooked, and under flavored. Â I haven't tried any of the other food, so I can't comment on it. Overall, it wasn't a horrible experience. Â The waitresses kept thanking us for our patience. Â If you want a place to go to watch a football game, have a few beers, flirt with the staff, and don't really care about good food or good service...this is your spot. Â As for me...I think this was my first and last time at The Kilt.
