Great place to go anytime of the day or night!! You get amazing amounts of food for Very reasonable prices, some of the lowest around. Â They butcher their own meat, which not only gets you a great variety of amazing meats but is the reason why you can get a great steak dinner for under $20, while other places charge Way more for less quality and quantity. The service is fabulous and it is like walking into cheers, eveyone knows your name. The clientel is comprised of people who have been eatting there for years and years, and you almost always see a familar face. Not to mention Most of the Region's A-listers patronize this restaraunt often. The owners are ALWAYS on the premises making sure the customers are happy and that the restaraunt is running smoothly. OH,and they serve breakfast 24/7!! So,if you want a fabulous melting pot or a glorious slab of BBQ ribs,a fresh french dip,a tbone steak dinner with all the fixin's,or a wonderful Fresh fish dinner (the ocean and lake perch rival that of any "fish joint" around) head on down to Top Notch.
Review Source:I agree with Jacqueline, that the waitresses wear green dresses, but that's a uniform to show who you are being served by. I have gone to other places and you don't know who is a busboy, wait person or customer. Don't expect sleazy girls to distract you from the food.
We have been going to Top Notch for at least five years, and when I ask my wife where she wants to go, she says, you know where! Â We live in Chicago, and it takes about 25 minutes, by way of expressways, but it is worth it.
You're always greeted by a member of the staff who asks where you would like to sit, e.g. Booth, table counter, window. Â When the waitress comes and greets you, she'll ask what you would like to drink while looking over your menu. Patrons have been going to their favorite waitress, and they know what your drinking, and bring it out as soon as you arrive. They quickly refill your drink when it nears the bottom.
They have daily specials including 2 different soups. The menu has a great selection, from breakfast to steaks, any time of day, 24 hours. All of which should meet any appetite. Complete meals include Coffee, soup, salad, entrée, potato, vegetable, desert, bread and butter, for about $10 per person. They have a large variety of sandwiches, including fresh gyros.  There is enough food to feed a hearty appetite, with plenty to take home. People are consistently taking home "doggie" boxes. Many customers have been going there for years and the folks are friendly.
The only thing I ever heard someone complain about is, "How am I going to eat all that." Â I told one of the owners, who are almost always on the premise, that he should use the phrase "The home of the take-home box."
The restaurant can only hold about 100 people, and driving down Indianapolis Blvd, you might miss it, but when you find it, you'll make sure it's on your places to dine. My only regret in writing this review, is that people will read it and make an extra effort to go there and we might not have a place to dine.
Oh, man. Â This place is a CLASSIC. Â I think that its outdatedness is possibly one of the most charming things in the world. Â Waitresses have to wear these pressed green dresses with white collars, and the inside looks like a good candidate for a scene of a Pulp Fiction sequel.
I have been coming here for years. Â It is one of the only places that's open for twenty-four hours. Â Whenever I need to catch up with a good friend, we come here and drink coffee until we're ready to collapse. Â
But the fact that it's one of the ONLY places open for twenty-four hours is not the only reason I love it: Â First, service is great. Coffee is piping hot, fresh, and refilled constantly. Â You will not get an incompetent waitress-- the waitresses have been here forever. Â Second, the food is really great. Â Go for the breakfast stuff. Â It's served all day, and it always hits the spot. Â I usually get one of the skillets. Â You really cannot go wrong with any of them. Â Prices can't be beat for what you get, either! Third, as I said, the ambiance is charming. Â I love being able to sit here with coffee for hours. Â No one rushes you, and no one cares that you are taking up a table.
I love coming here, whether it's in the middle of the day with a friend or at the end of a night out for some breakfast. Â I hope this place never, ever closes! Â Not gonna lie, if I have kids ever, I'm making them come here with me when we visit Indiana. Â And I'm going to be obnoxious about it, regaling them with stories about coming here in high school with friends, after dances, after acting in plays, as soon as I got my first car, blah blah. Â So great.
