Great idea, but execution of the food needs work.
The concept is great: create a cozy space with a great beer (& wine) selection that keeps you in the store longer (and, presumably, spending more $$$). Â
For the most part, they've hit the nail on the head. Â The beer selection is massive (30 or so taps), the wine is thoughtfully selected, the service is great, and the space is inviting and cozy (lots of cool woodwork, ample TVs). Â Plus, you can grab anything in the store -- food, beverages, beer, wine -- and enjoy it in here. Â You don't have to partake in the waiter service if you don't want to.
The only gripe is the food...It's just not that good. Â You're honestly better off just grabbing stuff from the store and using this space to have an alcoholic bev and hang out. Â To some extent, this makes sense -- presumably they don't employ a chef just for this area. Â So the food can only be as good as the prepared food in the store, right? Â At least that's my perception after dining here...
Specifically:
- Appetizers are sorely lacking...Fried avocado was somewhat flavorless...and a bowl of fries? Really, Whole Foods?
- Korean Tacos were absurdly over spiced...I like spicy food, but this was just overdone...
- Salads overdressed
- Little to no vegetarian options (again...really, Whole Foods?)
- Tomato soup tasted like the pizza sauce they were serving at the pizza kiosk
- Flatbread pizza was worse than their in store pizza
I truly appreciate that they tried to pull this together, but it needs work...or it should just be a beer bar...
