George's at the Cove

Great view, great food, very efficient service, too crowded unfortunately. I've always had a great meal and fantastic time at this place. Love it!

I'm a bit torn on how to review Georges. If it was based on service, I would give it beyond the 5 stars allotted. I had a very important business dinner last night...perhaps one of the most important dinners of my partners future. The staff at Georges knew it was an important business dinner and did everything and beyond to make the evening classy, glamorous and perfect. And for that I am beyond thankful.

However, I am quite a foodie and for the reputation and status and prices of Georges, the food should be memorable. It should make you not care about the bill. It should make you want to come back more just because the food is that amazing. But the food was not amazing. Every single dish was overwhelmingly salty. And this is coming from a salt fan! But that's how salty the food was. From the yellow tail, to the risotto to the veggies. Overly salted food, to me, is a sign of trying to mask some flavor that isn't there. The food was beautifully presented. Very classy and decorative. The flavors however, and I wish I could report otherwise, they just weren't anything to write home about or care to have ever again.

Dined on the terrace overlooking the ocean- great view of La Jolla Cove and the ocean. Unfortunately, the food was not good at all. The mussels appetizer was bland. The gnocchi was rubbery and also quite bland. The accompanying scallops were chewy and added some texture to the dish but absolutely no flavor.  The tombo (albacore) was grey and lacked seasoning. Of all the restaurants that we visited in and around San Diego, this was the only place at which neither of us enjoyed nor finished our meals.  Waitstaff was unavailable due to the busy nature of the terrace but should have checked with us at least once during the course of the meal.  So very disappointing.
