I'm drunk so brave the story and spelling errors. Being new to the Uptown Neighborhood and used to the Wrigley night life and bar scene, I decided to check out the late night fun of the only busy place in Uptown. Around sixty people were in this place for the most part having a great time ( a couple in a booth were having too much fun...just go home and f~€k). The door guy checked my I.D. (weird cause I'm old, and look old) but he made me laugh cause I fell on my way in, and I thought for sure he was gonna push me back out the door. He has an intimidating look about him, almost a "I know how to make you regret your actions quickly and painfully" type of look but don't worry he's sociable. So, compass tattoo door guy remember me.
The bartenders are beautiful, almost like you can pick the girl next door, or be whipped by the dominatrix. Regular prices are a bit high, but they had a show that night, and Karaoke is fun, but I wasn't drunk enough.
Certainly has a dive bar atmosphere but with a little 70's flare thrown in with the booths. If you sit and people watch you get to see every bar patron stereotype within a few minutes being played out right I front of you. The creep taking pictures of the bartenders ass, the alcoholic, the recovering addict, newly 21 loud chic and her guy friends who pick up the bill, the quiet lonely guy who is looking for friends or anyone to talk to. Oh wait that was me this time, oops.
Everyone working there was really cool and fun to talk to, even the massive dude near a creepy side-room. He is like a large teddy bear, but can probably hit like a grizzly.
I recommend a bar seat near the entrance for people watching. The door guy will make you laugh as he scans every I.D.
One girl didn't know her own middle initial, and instead of physically tossing her, like i see in wrigley, he just opened the door and pointed out. They left but kept trying to come back and argue with him calling him everything they could, still, he kept his calm and suggested another bar for them to try. They threatened to write a report even.. for what? If you want to get into a bar act like your able to get into a bar haha I was drunk, but i still know my middle initial. Staff makes it fun, and I even made some new drinking buddies, hell, they bought me enough shots and fed me cookies.
This is a great little bar. Â It never seems to be too crowded, and the beer selection is great for a bar of its size. Â The prices are a little higher than some other neighborhood bars, but not too bad, and the people are generally friendly. Â The location is great for public transportation.
Review Source:When you're alone and life's making you lonely you can always go, UPtown.
When you've got worries; all the noise and the hurry. Seems to help, I know, UPtown.
Listen to the noise of L and traffic in the city.
Where the neon lights are so pretty.
You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares and go UPtown!
Bar conveniently located by rad places like the Green Mill, myriad restaurants, and the L.
These guys are really trying. The joint is a bit classed up. And they have events practically every night from what I've witnessed and saw on signs in the washroom (when has anything on the wall of a bathroom been a lie?).
The booths by the windows are cool for natural light or people watching. But my first visit a guy knocked on the window while I was listening to my companion talk. I turned and this. Um Person. Had his face smushed against the glass, clawed at it, and cackled menacingly. I squealed and grabbed my partner in terror. The second visit a guy did something similar. In retrospect, it's kind of amusing. Knock, knock. Who's there? You don't want to look.
They have Daisy Cutter.
It's always pretty empty. The music is very weird: Chumba Womba, Eve 6, Spice Girls? And way too loud for no one being there. If I didn't pierce my partner's eardrums from my shrieks it surely would. We have to yell at each other making convo.
The staff is very nice and it's okay for a bop in after hitting another spot in the area. That's the crux of their appeal. Just avoid window booths, maybe.
UPtown everything's waiting for you.
This is my favorite bar in the city.
Decent beer selection, great atmosphere. Nothing crazy or flashy at all but Saturday nights are amazing. Great place to relax with my girlfriends, drink beer and embarrass ourselves singing along to Queen.
Adam, the Saturday night DJ, is incredible. Love!
I'm not at all surprised that Uptown Lounge doesn't have many 5-star ratings nor many 1 & 2-star ratings. Â It's solid. Â Nothing special and definitely not bad. Â I often come here for Monday night and Thursday night football games because I don't get them on my TV and these guys do. Â Service is friendly, they have a good selection of beer... and that's really all I care about.
If you want a bar, this is a bar. Â If you want something flashy, this isn't flashy. Â Take it for what it is and you'll have a good time.
It is a shame that I lived 20 years in Uptown and this was my first time at Uptown Lounge. Â My friends and I came here for drinks after Ribfest. Â We scored a cozy booth and people watched from there. Â I spent $20 on four beers. Â Yay! Â We were here on a Saturday night; I hear drinks are half off on Sundays. Â The place was full, but not crowded. Â The bartender was attentive.
Review Source:The rating is between 3/4. 4 it's.
I have been here few times on weekday and the place has decent crowd+regular. It's a nice chill/roomy place. Quite a clean place.
They have a pretty big beer selection but I didn't try any since I'm not into beer.
I tried their extensive list of martinis. I had quite a few and I liked all the one I tried. They have a nice kick to them and tasted delicious. I'm into the flavored martini side instead of the dry/gin side.
The two bartender ladies I met were quite mellow and real. Nothing to complaint about the service.
This place was aight, my friend had a bday party here and they gave us the back room. I had a party once and had to give up the back room, but that was a bachelor party.
The staff - nice, professional and not up in our grill. My drunken idiot friend walked out of the bar with his drink & when I worked the door, that was grounds for a smack down. But this guy was real chill. Points for that. Bartender smoking a cig outside was attractive and talked to me without a single eye roll or tounge click. Points for that.
The drinks - LARGE beer selection. Didnt get to try a mixed drink but they looked good.
Food - Didn't try it.
No pool tables.
I'd been to Uptown Lounge for a friend's open mic earlier in the year.  At the time I thought it was fine, but nothing special enough for me to return.  Fast forward about six months and my friends are looking to have one last drink after Beer Hoptacular at the Aragon.  Someone suggests Uptown Lounge so we go.  It's fairly crowded but we're able to snag a booth as another party is leaving.  I look at the menu and...whoa.  Everything here seems way more expensive than I remember.  We order anyway, but all agree the prices are about $2-$3 more than they should be ($8 for a Gumballhead bottle, $8 for a Breckenridge porter bottle, and a whopping $13 for a Dragon's Milk bottle - normal sized, not the big one).  While we sat we noticed the bar tvs playing a weird mix - sports on the bar side, but Tru TV on the booth side.  Service was fine, but  no one was interested in staying beyond their one drink.
I came to find out Uptown Lounge has a "normal" beer list and a "concert" beer list and that, indeed, the concert one has prices raised by a few dollars. Â That strikes me as really slimy and I don't think the other bars in the area do it. Â Nothing about Uptown is impressive and I'll be heading over to Green Mill, Crew, or Fat Cat for future post-show drinks.
Way too impressive of a beer selection to be a dive bar. Â Uptown broke my heart a little when they dropped the Breckenridge Vanilla Porter from its tap (though it is still available in bottles).
It can be a bit much to handle on show dates for the Aragon or the Riviera (or God help you if it's both), but if you're in the neighborhood and you tire of seeing the same Anheuser-Busch lineup, and the Hopleaf is too crowded, it's a decent place to spend some time.
The uptown lounge turned out to be the intermezzo stop for me while heading over to the aragon for the flaming lips show. And, what a nice intermezzo it was. Granted, it was hard to switch from hopleaf, but that can't be held against the uptown lounge. It was clear that a lot of the people there were doing what me and my friend were doing.
There was a decent crowd, but it wasn't hard to find a seat. While the beer selection was solid, it did feel like a better selection would really make the uptown lounge. Its in a great place and can draw a good crowd
I love Uptown Lounge! I first went there on a blind date and it was a great, the date, not so much, but the establishment was superb.
Everyone who works there was super chill, but accommodating. The music is good as well and they are open super late, which is always good.
I returned twice, once with my girlfriend, who loved it and once with my then bf. We wanted a quiet night out after he got off work from another bar in LP, and Uptown was the destination. We had a good time and the music was pleasing the crowd has been very chill all three times that I have been there and the set up is pretty cool as well.
This is a good little spot to go with a little older crowd and without the drunken foolishness of some other late night establishments. Check it out!
Perfect easy going lounge in the middle of my uptown. I've lived here for over twenty years and this kind of lounge wasn't happening back in the day. Nice staff too. Â
Be sure not to get shooshed, music is very serious here, they will actually turn a spotlight on you. Â Of course NOT ! But you will get shooshed
Uptown lounge is one of my favorite lounges to visit. I've hardly ever been here and not been able to find somewhere to sit and relax with cocktails. I love their chocolate martini's and the best part is that they offer $5 martini's on Wednesdays except during concerts in the area.
The staff is super cool and I love the juke box.
Went here in 2007, then again last night. I had a good time last time, but I must have been drunk, because this place is awful.
$5 for a domestic beer, okay. $8 for a shot of Jameson? Go f$ck yourself!
You can get a liquor cheaper at the Aragon or the Riv at a concert. This place is a fail. I thought this place prided itself on being an upscale dive bar? Everything else was okay: staff, ambiance, etc.
This place deserves an average rating of 2 stars, so I had to lay it down.
I've been to Uptown Lounge only for super-late-night drinking when there was a need for a dark corner and more booze. I can't say too much about the place because my face was either in my beer or latched on to a boy's; I wasn't really paying that much attention! :-X
I do know that I felt like the bartender was cool, the bouncer friendly and the bathrooms were clean. That's about all I need in a drinking establishment that late at night.
Close to home, open super late and good for making out. Win!
Went here last night for an event that my friend was associated with. It's a cute place, I think.
Drink prices were decent, bartenders were attentive and sweet. Last night was focused on some DJs, so a lot of house music. I wish more people were dancing, I would have joined!
If you live in the area, check it out. Open 'til 4am!
The neon martini sign in front was a-beckonin'.
A decent 'bad-decision' bar... you know, the late-night kind. For me, the only bad-decision is to continue drinking, for others... it's probably a hook-up bar. In any case, it is a bit sketchy.
A nice change from some of the others in this category (Nick's and Carol's come to mind), however, I didn't really care for the music. I believe a DJ was spinning some house/minimal type of mix.
The bar itself is clean and spacious, and there's even plenty of tables so you can sit your arse down.
Open 'til 4 am on Fridays, and 5 am on Saturdays.
Great location, really decent prices (even before shows at the Aragon) and very good waitress who rocked the booths like nobody's business.
Great place to meet before a show in the 'hood. Â Staff is very friendly, again, especially the waitress. Â Decent sized space and easy to move around even when packed. Â No crazy lines for the bathroom, no bad attitude from the bartenders and healthy pours on the reasonably priced cocktails. Â
Awesome music but don't even think about finding parking for a show.
Kimberly B. is right. Â The DJ on Friday night plays some good funky house music. Â The atmosphere is loungy, but not overpriced at all, and the crowd didn't seem pretentious like you see at many lounges and the service was great. Â I think it's better for groups rather than couples who want to chat. Â And it's a great place to either end a pub crawl or to start a certain-to-be late night of drinking.
I haven't heard Evelyn "Champagne" King's "Love Come Down" since college. Â My roommate had an 80's compilation that we'd play when we hosted parties! Â And a night of drinking isn't complete without doing the "Guy" to the Stones' "Miss You." Â The "Guy" is the dance move of the future. Â You'll be seeing this move at all the clubs before you know it. Â If you ever meet me, just ask. Â Or not.
I really never go here unless I'm looking to stay out till 4 a.m. It's usually a bad decision, as most 4am bars are. I can't comment too much on the drinks as at this point in the night it's usually anything goes for drinks. Easy to get to with the red line right there. Not bad for after shows at the Aragon I suppose too.
Most of the Lincoln Square bars close around 2 or 3 latest. Easy to hop in a cab over here for that night cap your brain is misleadingly telling you that you need.
I remember when Uptown Lounge first opened (shakes cane in air, furrows brow). The bartender was very friendly and charming, made me a delicious chocolate martini, and gave me my second one for free. We went back few times but haven't really been there much since.
Fast forward to February 2009. With fond memories of Uptown Lounge, we headed back on a Saturday night to meet up with friends. My chocolate martini was served in a ridiculously small glass. And it wasn't any cheaper than a normal-sized one at similar places. Bartender wasn't friendly but wasn't mean, just kind of blah.
The crowd is interesting. Some gay guys in their 40s and 50s, some trixies who seemed to have accidentally wandered north of Irving Park, a few couples nuzzling in the booths, and a handful of hipsters.
At midnight or 1, a dj came in with his Mac laptop and it was all B96 up in there. Do we really need to listen to Britney Spears this loud? Our conversation ceased to exist.
I wasn't impressed with Uptown Lounge but if I go back it probably won't be during peak hours.
Uptown Lounge is a great place to hit up after a show at the Aragon Ballroom or the Riviera Theater. Â They got some good deals and a great selection of beer on tap and bottled. Â The place is big too. Â Plenty of seating and dancefloor, plus a second pool room.
As a DJ, I dig their set up...2 Technics 1200's and the Pioneer DJM-500, as well as a dual deck Denon CD player with pitch control, loops, and a cool break feature that allows you to slow down the song like a record. Â
If you're looking to party, this place is good 'cause there's no cover and it's open 'til 4am (and 5 on Saturdays). Â The music selection is a bit eclectic. Â But if you're looking for rock, punk, and metal music I suggest going on Thursdays.
The Uptown Lounge seemed to be home to gay men who are in that in between phase of life, were they haven't officially come out yet. The Female population consistent of the bartenders, my friend and i and some other chick there...MEN RULED THE LAND, and they seemed totally-completely FINE with that.
store front windows, high ceiling, plenty of sitting room, dj-dance space, clean washrooms, and a second room with a pool table with couches..relaxed kewl.
I had a good time here, just stayed for one drink, but the guys were friendly...my friend and i got in on a pool game, i met another fellow yelper, Good times, I'd definitely come back
Normally, I like this place because they have a good amount of beers on tap and the lounge atmosphere is really cool with regards to comfortable seating, spacious area, and it's open til 4am which is nice if you don't feel like paying cover at Green Mill or experiencing the loudness of Kinetic Playground. Â My cousin swears it's a gay bar, but it didn't seem that way to me.
There is usually a DJ here, but I can't recall the music being exceptional or anything like that. Â I ordered a Fat Tire and found it to be completely flat which had the effect of slowing down my drinking big time. Â
What really bothered me on my last visit some Somali cab driver was totally staring at my friend and making obscene / rude gestures. Â I know he was Somali because he was harassing me outside about my friend. Â
To reiterate 1) While it's open late, the Uptown scaries come out late at night. Â 2) You're not going to lose an arm or leg here, but you might get handed a flat beer! 3) The Red Line and Lawrence bus run all night in case you need to plan an exit, luckily it is easy to find a cab.
I can see this place getting crazy at times, in a good way!  The crowd seemed to be 20 somethings, laid back, There were a few couples kissing in the booths, but thats normal... wherever theres a booth and dark lighting. haha  The drinks were small but strong.  I liked the chill atmosphere and it was good to be able to hear the person next to you.
Its far from my house but I'd venture here again.
If I ever get dragged to Tai's 'till 4 again, I will stab myself in the face.
Was that lurid enough?
Deciding on a bar open past 2am is difficult...there are plenty of options, but they often become a last ditch effort to find your Mr./Ms. "Right Now."
Uptown Lounge cannot consider itself above this force of nature; however, they do provide very decent drinks, comfy booths and ample floor space in which to watch the nightly game of beer-goggle hook-up.
The music is random depending on the "dj" last time I was here, it was Hammer Time....and the women's restroom has three stalls (this alone gets a star) I can't complain enough about bars that have a single stall in the ladies. I mean really? Beer+Bladder+Woman=constant tinkle, hello!
Great little bar hidden away near the Lawrence red line stop in Uptown. Â We came here to meet a prospective wedding vendor (a DJ, whom we hired on the spot). Â The place was pretty empty, save for a few lingerers drinking away their sorrows after the Cubs lost the first playoff game (don't want to peak too early, I say). Â I'm told the bar gets very hopping in the wee hours, since it is one of the only 4 am bars around.
I dig the decor -- classy, sexy, yet comfortable. Â $4 Hacker Schorr specials -- yes please! Â The drinks are very reasonably priced here, and seems they have specials just about every night of the week. Â I get the feeling that it's a very chill atmosphere, even on crazy weekend nights. Â Not as gay as Crew, not as hipster as Fat Cat -- just a cool place to drink and hang with friends.
Uptown Lounge is one more reason to love this little strip of Broadway. Â I'd like to return on a weekend night to see it in its full late night glory, but for a casual beer on a Wednesday evening, it was perfect.
There aren't many options for 4am bars in Uptown, but The Uptown Lounge is all you need to end a great night out. Having just moved out of Lakeview, I'm used to having late night options in this area (The Closet, Charlie's, Nick's Uptown, etc.). Even with these options, none of those places would receive a four star review compared to Uptown Lounge.
You really see just how diverse Uptown is when you walk into this bar around 2:30 am. This place is always playing some great music and maintains a relaxed and pre-2:00 am atmosphere (read: everyone is not wizasted and falling down drunk). The bar's layout is open enough to be able to chat with new people - the first time I went with a group of friends, a couple of guys invited us to join them in their large booth and we had a great time getting to know them.
Bottom line: if it's 2am and you're not ready to go home, then stop by The Uptown Lounge for a fun and friendly atmosphere and very reasonably priced drinks (domestics are only $3.50 on a weekend!). Definitely not you typical late night bar.
After my last visit to Uptown Lounge last Friday, I really want to give this place 1 star. I'm going to be more fair than that. See what kind of a level headed Yelper I am? I've been to this bar 5 or 6 times I guess. It's very nice on the inside, very loung-ey. Drinks are fine, jukebox is good.
One piece of advice- go late. When I've been there after too many at other places, this place is heaven. I went there around 9-ish last week and had one of the shittiest bartenders I've ever had. No greeting, no what can I get you- nothing. I felt I was seriously inconveniencing this chick and taking her away from flirting with her hipster/frat-boy buddy at the other end of the bar. The only attention my end of the bar got from her afetr my initial beer was when she brow beat this poor drunken cheese-head who had the nerve to light a cigarette not knowing that you can't smoke in Chicago. When he fled the bar from her shrieking, she turned her attention to his companion, who apparently comes here occasionally. She then gave him shit. I was afraid I was gonna be next.
We left after that. She killed it.
The only other 4am bar I have been to is Burton's Place, so I just guessed that was the way of all late night bars. Apparently not...
Uptown Lounge is a really nice spot. Open layout, friendly bartenders, clean bathrooms, lots of seating, music at a normal decibel, and Grandma's Boy was playing on the TV's. Score.
Mixed drinks for $5.50 seems downright cheap. Maybe that is why I drank 29 of them in one sitting.
Great location if you need to escape LV/LP, just hop on the red line, get off at Lawrence and go less than a block. The fratmosphere is low.
This is a nice place to chill in an eclectic neighborhood that could use a few more bars to cater to the locals and concert goers. It is somewhat lacking in enough seating, but it is dark, loungy and purrrfect for hanging with friends. The service is fairly prompt, and the drinks are decently priced. There are great booths located in front of  large, street-side windows, which are outstanding for checking out the Uptown scene, and unbelievable architecture.
It is located almost directly across the street from the Lawrence Red line stop, and about a 1/2 a block from the #36.
Uptown itself is a must see neighborhood in Chicago, and The Uptown Lounge is a good place to start lookin and hangin.
Other hot spots in the neighborhood:
The Green Mill
Fat Cat
I like this place because it's almost never busy. Â I guess that's not really a good thing though. Â I don't go during peek times though, so that might have something to do with it.
It's a good place to go if you just want to hang out and chat with someone. Â I must admit that although I'm usually not a chick drink kinda gal, they have the best chocolate martini's I've ever had.
I went up here on a Saturday night late to see a friend perform. I remember when the bar changed hands and went from a traditional 'dive' to the new and improved upscale-y place that it is today, back when I used to live in Uptown. I never did go there back then, so I had no idea what to expect.
The space is nice. Long bar, filling the right side of the room. The left side is low tables and booths. Big clean bathrooms. There is another room off to the side where the performances are, but it was so packed, we couldn't even get in. We sat at the bar and watched baseball highlights and drank overpriced beer.
The bar was full of dudes in baseball caps and flip flops and girls in heels and big earrings. It was pretty much a 2 to 1 ratio. And at the one point when my companion got up to use the facilities (leaving his beer and smokes at his stool, with me sitting with my arm across his stool for good measure), someone tried to take it and I got a dirty look for my polite "Um, that stool's still taken, sorry."
Yep, won't be going back there, even if it is pretty.
I have only been here on a Wednesday night. Its usually not too crowded even after the other bars around close up. you'll see a handful of regulars sitting around, nose in their drink, or staring at the television which usually has some sports channel on. The Dj's spin a
mix of new wave, synth pop, industrial, and shoe-gaze. I love the fact that it is roomy even for a small space. That plus it IS a late night bar, which I haven't found too many of this far north. Parking can be a bit tedious, especially if the surrounding venues are having events on that night.
I was pretty disappointed by the Uptown Lounge. Â The locals all tell me how chill it is. Â It is indeed chill, however it lacks one thing...fun.
The bar is full of single guys, who are all waiting for the cute waitress to come and chat with them. Â If you get one thing here, it's great personal attention! Â These waitresses spend time chatting with all the guys in there. Â The only problem is that every guy in there is under the impression that he has a chance, so these poor slobs keep going back, and keep tipping big. Â They never knew what hit them...
The first time I went there, it was because a friend of a friend needed a Wingman.  So as we stroll in, I notice that it's a complete Sausage fest  in there.  Then I realize that the girl he wants help with works there.  Now I know two things...Don't hit on the staff...because every other guy in there is doing it...and two...if she flirts back, she is seeking big tips...
You can check it out for yourself, but really, just take my word for it. Â Don't bother.
Sketchy. Â Definitely after hours only. Not many reasons to go earlier.
Check out karaoke on Sunday nights. Â Shit, they're open till 4am.
Chocolate martini's are not good. Why would you order one, look at this place. Â They have specials... come'on order one of those instead.
The alc pour is heavy, tip well.
There isn't a norm here. Â Its just Chicago people, that wanted to keep a good feeling going.
The lot isn't theirs, so you have to search for street parking.
Chill, low-key place, that defines upscale dive bar -- with booths lining the left side of the bar and dim sexy lighting. Â DJs spinning different types of music throughout the week. Â We happened to go on vintage rock night, and he played all the James Brown, David Bowie and Rolling Stones we wanted.
Cheap drinks and friendly people too.  We even saw a Chicago PD guy on-duty personally deliver dinner to our bartendress...lol  We were there for a $3 u call it shot special. Â
What was that occifer?!?
