We attended a Holiday Concert and dinner Sunday, and the evening was absolutely perfect! My glass was never empty and the pacing of the outstanding 5 course meal was excellent. The place was packed but the servers still managed to maneuver discreetly and deftly among all the patrons even while the performers were singing. And speaking of performers - Jeorge Holmes and Diva Montell were amazing - it felt much more like an evening in Chicago or New York than in Elgin. Their voices blended and soared through holiday hits, sacred songs, and arias - touching everyone in the restaurant.  It was three hours of heaven - a feast for all the senses. Thank you, Pietro, for orchestrating such a wonderful event.  More, please!!!

Walked into this restaurant at 4:50 pm on a Saturday night. Only one table was occupied. My wife and I requested a table for two and was told that we could not be seated without a reservation. The place was virtually empty! Let me see. What do you think the "seating charge" would be? Five? Ten? We won't be back, reservations or not.

Wowzah! Incredible food! Excellent service, Nice, quaint atmosphere! We were seated right away, ordered the bruschetta, ravioli zucca, and pappardelle paradiso. The bruschetta was fresh and full of flavor. The ravioli zucca was superb! If you want something light with a hint of sweet flavor, this is the dish for you. It has butternut squash in ravioli, asiago sauce, and I think there were sun-dried tomatoes. I loved the mix of flavors. The pappardelle paradiso is this pasta with chicken, spinach, garlic, and goat cheese. I had a taste of it and it was pretty LEGIT. LEGIT as in YUM. Great dish if you have a taste for cheeeeese. Our waiter kept our glasses full, and he checked up on us frequently. The place was very comfortable. It reminded me of urban Little Italy. The decor made me feel like I was on a mini vacation lol. We had a window seat, and it was nice to see the little shops with people walking around in old-town Elgin. I would definitely go back. Five big stars :)

Attended a Vino Van Gogh event here so my review isn't reflective of a true dining experience.

We arrived about 30-40 minutes before the painting event was to start. We decided to order a quick beverage and something small to eat. We both got a wedge salad which was pretty large and very filling. We were also given some fresh warm bread & butter to munch on as well.

Once we started painting, we were told a particular server was there to bring drinks or refills to anyone. Unfortunately, he never really came near us so during one of our breaks (to let paint dry), we had to get our own drinks.

The vibe of this place is really intimate and cozy.  You almost forget that you are in Elgin. If I was ever in the area again, I would definitely stop in for a bite to eat.

I really enjoy this place every time go. The owner is gregarious and has been known to sit and talk if patrons are so inclined.  The food is good.  My go-to is Butternut Squash Ravioli with Asiago sauce.  The service has always been great and the servers are always friendly and attentive.  My Italian mother-in-law enjoyed it after she finished complaining.  Trust me.  That's a stellar review.

Great food.  The price is the only thing that lowers this to four stars.

    We dined on 03/17/12

    First impressions:
Decor is of a typical Italian style family restaurant. A place your grandparents might actually enjoy. There was nothing that really stuck out or impressed me. We had a group of 8 and were seated right away, and the waiter, although was very attentive at the start... took FOREVER to get our drinks to us.. about 20 minutes!!! Don't be shocked... it gets worse... WAY worse !! In fact we all ordered another round when he brought them 'cuase it took so long to get them.

    The food:
I ordered the bacon wrapped asparagus with a gorgonzola cream sauce as my appetizer. Although, I normally don't think that any cheese goes with asparagus, however the wood fired asparagus went well with the bleu cheese. The good things bout our appetizers is that they arrived relatively promptly and hot ! unfortunately, it went downhill from there... rapidly !!! The entrees, took 2 hours to get to our table. Let me repeat that... TWO HOURS !!!!! A friend of ours commented... "It's always like that. You just gotta have fun listening to the music" I'm sorry... that is 100% UNACCEPTABLE !!! Nothing more to say bout that !!!

    Quality of food:
The appetizer was good, I will admit to that. As for the entrees, my entree, was spicy Italian sausage with buccatini and 'Pancetta'. First.. the 'Pancetta' was most definitely NOT PANCETTA.. it was bacon!! It didn't even look like pancetta!! It's impossible to disguise the glorious flavor of smoke in bacon!! BUT... if the menu says PANCETTA... use PANCETTA !!!! Secondly, when I asked for the chef to make it extra spicy, he served my meal with a side cup of crushed red chiles.... WHAT !?!?!?! Lastly, the entree was just .. eh... I could have made a better Arrabiata sauce at home... and have !!! My wife's Entree was 'chicken Vesuvius'. Ugh ! You could have put ketchup on my shoe leather and it would have had more moisture. The chicken was dry as a bone!!! Most definitely a result of sitting at the pass for TWO FREAKIN hours !!! I can't speak for any of our other dinner friends, but I'm sure our entrees could tell the story !!

    The atmosphere:
The place was packed!! And the wine was pretty good. However, there is absolutely NO excuse for the abysmal service. if you own a restaurant, you should be able to manage the line, expedite the orders, and get the food to the patrons no matter how busy you are !! You can't make up for it for one free round of novelty shots, and some karaoke fool singing songs in the corner.

We had fun hanging with our friends... but we will never be back!! Service, to me, is the most important item on the menu !! Sometimes the food can be good enough to overlook a few mistakes, but this was all around pathetic !!

I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone

Giving 5 star ratings to this place is more preposterous than taking the time to review Subway.  If you're making Italian food for a living, just about everything should be homemade if in the 5 star category.  Villa Verone doesn't do it.

Had the Rotolo Mamma Carmela.  Claimed that the pasta was fresh - and it probably was - but I strongly doubt from Villa Verone.  Beyond that, they weren't using fresh spinach.  This gave the dish a much more pungent flavor and wetter feel than needed.

And to boot...I'm pretty sure the waiter was faking an accent.  Pretty hilarious actually.

Is it decent on a limited budget...sure?  That's about as far as I would take it, though.

I went here for the first time tonight. The atmosphere was great. The decor and music was exactly what I would hope for in an Italian restaurant. I ordered the eggplant lasagna special and thought it was very good. The service was also excellent.  I'm giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 only because I've only been here once. Having said that, I plan on revisiting to try some of there other entrees in the near future.

Went here on a Saturday night with my husband. I had called earlier in the day to make a reservation but they aren't open for lunch, so I got voicemail.  I left a message stating there were 2 of us and we'd be in around 6:30.  I didn't get a call back so I wasn't sure if we actually had a reservation or not, but they did have us down when we arrived, and we were seated right away.

We did the fixed price option - 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, 1 dessert, and a bottle of wine for $75.00.  Ordered the Calamari for the appetizer.  I don't like calamari but my husband said it could have been breaded a little more. He still ate the entire thing so it couldn't have been bad.  For our entrees, I had the ROTOLO MAMMA CARMELA, and my husband had CAPRICCIO MARINO.  Mine was amazing.  I had never had pasta served like that before. It was like two giant wheels made of layers of pasta, ricotta, spinach, and prosciutto, in a creamy tomato sauce.  My husband said his was pretty good, but he didn't call it amazing. It was standard noodles in marinara sauce with a bunch of sea food, and little slices of bread on the plate. We both took home left overs from our entrees.  For our dessert we got a slice of chocolate cake.  It was standard chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and chocolate chips on top. Four our bottle of wine we had Moscato D'Asti and it was excellent.

The service was great.  They were attentive without being annoying or hovering, and they didn't make us feel rushed to leave.

The only reason I am not giving it 5 starts is because of the bread basket.  If I could do 4.5 stars I would, but the bread basket was just very small slices of white Italian bread, nothing exciting, and no fancy butter or Italian seasonings for the oil, just parmesean and standard butter packets.

We will definitely go back, there are several other items on the menu that sounded amazing that I must try.

Tortellini soup was so salty it was inedible.  My wife enjoyed her dinner.  Service was ok.

The deal: was in Elgin for a trip to the Psychosis Haunted House over Halloween weekend and wanted to find a quick spot for dinner before hitting up the spooks.

The scene: not many restaurant or eating choices around the area, but we walked by Villa Verone, and it looked like a solid establishment with tasty food.

The verdict: we were right!  Great menu choices.  I had the eggplant appetizer (eggplant rolled in pasta, served with tomato sauce and cheese), and bf's fettucine with chicken and spinach entree was delicious too.  Service was a little slow, but it did look like they were understaffed on that night.

Absolutely love the feel of this restaurant! You walk in and it is so well decorated that you instantly relax and feel like you took a trip to Italy!

The food is excellent. They start you off with warm bread and butter. I highly recommend the Butternut Squash Ravioli. It is such a rich meal loaded with flavors. My husband got the Chicken Parmesan and loved it!

The service was great. My water was always full and the server had a smile on her face the whole time. She even struck up little conversations with us! This place is perfect for a girls' night out or a romantic date.

Okay, I may be a little biased since the proprietor, Pietro Verone, is honoring me with his Elgin Person of the Week this Thursday night but so what? I'd be there every Thursday regardless of who is person of the week. The atmosphere is so festive and fun, the food rocks and so does Pietro on the karaoke machine. Karen, Willie and the rest of the staff are always on their game. I love their pasta and the marinara is top shelf.

VV seems to get better everytime I go there. The atmosphere is still as good as it gets, and food has been tested and tweaked to the point that it's well worth the price.

I'm trying to become more stingy with my 5-star ratings, but this place has definitely earned it.

My husband and I took my parents here for dinner when they were in town, not knowing what to expect at all.  We were all very pleasantly surprised!  The ambiance was lovely, the menu created with a sense of both tradition and whimsy, and the service was attentive and fantastic!

The food really put them over the top.  Honestly some of the best Italian food I've ever had!  The recipes are inventive and tasty and there's truly something for everyone.

My family and I have been back several times since and we will be there several times again in the future!

I went here for a charity event and had the BEST time!  The appetizers were delicious, the wine was flowing, the customer service was superior, and I loved, loved, loved the atmosphere.  A Verone man serenaded us with his beautiful voice and funny wit.  We sat in a round circle in comfortable chairs of friends sharing wine and fun.  It was intimate seating in a party surrounding.  My face hurt the next morning from smiling all night.  It was just a really great time and great place.  They really know how to put on a nice, upscale event.  The parking lot is a short few steps away, which was perfect.

We went here last night after reading reviews.  It has a nice, cozy atmosphere, and they quickly rearranged tables to seat us.  The waitress was very friendly and prompt.  We all ordered different things.  My meal was a little rich and heavy for me (goat cheese sauce), but good.  I wouldn't order it again just because it was heavy and rich for me.  I could only eat a small portion of it.  The bruschetta was very good.  I had a French martini (well made, but not the flavor of martini I would order again) and chocolate martini (yummy!)  They both were well made drinks in that I could tell there was actually alcohol in them but not in a overloaded kind of way.  My pet peeve is ordering mix drinks and feeling like I have a Shirley Temple drink (i.e., no alcohol).  The potatoes were delicious with the oregano sprinkled on them.  My husband really enjoyed his meal and beer choices.  We did not order dessert.  It was a little pricey - $100 for 2 adults, 3 kids; however, I had 2 martinis and my husband had 2 beers.  Of the billl total, $32 was spent on drinks.  They do not have a kids menu, so we may have been charged more for buttered noodles than what we normally pay, I don't know...after 2 martinis, I'm not watching the details!  Regardless, it was good and we will go back.  The place had a nice turnout for a Friday night.

The food was good, but the portions seemed very small for the price. The server we got was new, and was quite loud and obnoxious. My husband and I just came in for a nice lunch and she tried to chat us up the entire time we were there. I suppose the "family" thing is nice for some people, but servers need to learn body language cues.

Such a great place!  I am somewhat new to Elgin and chose this as my birthday spot with my family.  We went on Saturday night and really enjoyed the live music.  The service was excellent, in the bar waiting for our table and at our table.  We tried a little bit of everything and I was very pleased.  Bacon wrapped scallops were good, the fried zucchini balls also delish, I found the calamari a bit over cooked but everyone else raved.  I had the special of seafood ravioli and it was good.  The ambiance and staff was the best part of the experience, by the end of the night most of my family was dancing to the tunes and having a great time!  Thank you for a memorable birthday!  I will be back!!!

I don't know what people are refering to as heavy meals, my server Stefano was able to provide excellent alternates both lighter and vegan for some of our guests, with his charm and attentions to our table.  Multo Benne! Will bring family, friends and business here in the futue for their excellent lunch specials or dinner any time.  They even have their own wine label, very much worth a try!
