SO MUCH FUN! That's really all I have to say about that- you must try this before you die. Totally worth the next-day bruises.

This place is very clean, the staff is friendly, and the value is very high.  We played whirley ball for a few hours and it didn't cost a lot.  The food was good, the bar staff was ready and willing to serve you.  The employees always checked in on us to make sure that we were having a good experience.

I've been to other whirleyball places and this one takes the cake.  I plan to go back soon and highly recommend this place to anyone.  If you don't like great customer service, clean environment, good food and drink, reasonable prices, and a safe & fun atmosphere, then this place isn't for you.  If you do- give them a try!

I was here for a birthday party tonight. I gotta be honest, I came here with absolutely no intention of playing whirlyball. I planned to drink, and watch my friends play. We had 2 hours reserved for playing, and at one point, I decided I was gonna try it out. It was a fricken blast! The game itself is intense, and hilarious. I found myself laughing, screaming, etc. everyone enjoyed it a lot.

The bartender was awesome. He was really nice, efficient, and friendly. The entire staff was actually pretty nice. I went there expecting a bunch of D-bag type cub fan frat boy turds, and there were some, but over all, everyone was pretty cool. Would I go back? Yeah probably.... :)

Whirlyball: the only time you can drive around after a couple of drinks and ram other drivers with your car and it's okay.

My friends were having a birthday get together here and we had a group of about 20. I wasn't in charge of the pricing, but we all had to pay our friend $20 for two hours worth of Whirlyball. That's not too bad because trust me, after a few turns, you'll be aching. Our referee came by and explained the rules to us and how everything is scored. Basically, use the scoop thingy to get the ball and shoot it in the basket. Seems simple enough.

While we waited, I headed over to the bar to check out the beers. My, what a great selection! On tap was some Bell's Amber, Two Bros Domain DuPage, an interesting Whirlyball Red Ale made by Two Bros, some Rogue and Lagunitas. They also have a ton of bottles like Dogfish Head, Flying Dog, Goose Island, some more Two Bros and Rogue, and some Three Floyds (heck yes!), just to name a few. Most of the beers are around $4, which I think is pretty great for craft beers.

Finally time for some Whirlyball! 10 people can go on at a time for 10 minute games. One complaint I have is that the scoopy things (yes, that's what I'm calling it) are pretty flimsy. They're made of cheap plastic, so it's hard to catch the ball when its passed to you. Part of the problem is also the ball. It's a whiffleball, equally as flimsy as seen by the multiple times our cars ran over and flattened the ball. I think the ball should be like a tennis ball or something heavier so that you can actually scoop it up and catch it. But I guess that would be too easy.

Sometimes, my car would get stuck in the middle of the floor and not move. Something about magnets on the car and the floor. So you have to wait for a teammate to bump into you to get going again. Beware for your evil friends who will ram into you head on to prevent you from scoring. Or getting you unexpectedly from behind. Or your own stupidity of looking behind you, trying to scoop the ball, and slamming into the wall because you didn't take your foot off the gas. I played two weeks ago and I still have a bad bruise on my knee and my knee hurts a bit from having slammed into the steering joystick.

Once you're totally beat up, you can stand by the window and watch your friends play, or you can play at the pool tables, arcade games, or throw bags. Seriously, even if you don't want to get beat up or play anything, having a good beer in hand and watching your friends make fools of themselves is always a good alternative. I'm glad I experienced this and would love to come back again.

Food was good. Beer was cold. I honestly didn't drink or eat as much as I would have liked to, because I was on the court all night! Other people in our group decided to shoot pool, throw bags, and play arcade games, so there was plenty of action. There were two bartenders and a handful of servers, so not sure what that other reviewer was complaining for- maybe it was just a one time problem. Yes, you will be bruised. Yes you will be sore. It's called fun. Take an aspirin and suck it up.

    Boring.............

    the cars are beat up.
    they can't steer correctly.

So much fun! Went with a group of 11, so I only had to sit out one game - we took advantage of their Sunday night special (book 2 hours, get the 3rd free), plus $1.50 drafts?? Yes, please! The whole night cost only about $40/person - not too bad at all.

Definitely go and give this a try - yes, the cars are a little beat up, but they should be! They take a beating. Speaking of, be aware that you will be very bruised up after playing...just a warning - but worth it!

As an added bonus - they have an AWESOME craft beer menu (Founders, Two Brothers, and Bells?? did not expect to see that at WhirlyBall!) - but, of course, those will cost you a little more then $1.50 per! Also, lots of arcade games to play as well.

Great time with friends.  Been whirleyballin a few times now and its dope.  Two things: don't expect a lively staff every time and bring exactly ten people.  Their price system fluctuates (seemingly on whim) but the more people the cheaper and funnnnner.

Admittedly, this activity freaked me out when I first agreed to it.  I don't even think I had played/driven/ridden bumper cars in my life before this excursion-- add a game of skill to the mix and all signs point toward disaster for this accident prone chick.
As the hours ticked down til it was time for me to meet my fate, I was downright anxiety ridden, picturing all types of mishaps that may occur (broken nose/tooth etc).
Once we arrived at the facility (tucked away behind an A&W on Roosevelt Rd), I was a little more at ease because it wasn't some crazy venue with tons of people milling around.  Basically, it looks like a bowling alley from the street, and also when you enter.  We got there @ 10:40 pm on a Saturday night and were told we'd be on the court just to the left of the bar.
Our ref took us out onto the court to explain the rules.  It smelled like a tire store, and I instantly started contemplating the sanitary-ness of the place.  I don't know how or if they clean out there, but it just seemed grimey, like a roller rink.  That, and the necessity of a rule rundown increased my anxiety because I totally didn't understand what was going on except that he said left means right and vice versa in steering, anything with a lot of rules means it could go bad, terribly bad, very fast.  Being that 1/2 of our group (18 ppl) were pretty lit, I really didn't want to play because drunk boys + sports= disaster.  My friend Liz however, scolded me into playing, and for that, I am glad...because it was FUN!!
Although I generally drove around and ran into people while pretending that I didn't mean to, I actually got into the activity.  It's amazing how much alcohol can enhance social gatherings.  I don't think the crashing was too intense but you do get thrown around a bit, I didn't get any bumps or bruises as other reviewers did.  During one round, I got stuck with a super crappy black car that kept getting stuck and would require a bump to get moving again.  It also had a duct taped handle, the duct tape was not serving it's purpose because my hand was hurting from steering since the metal was totally poking through.
Although the inside of the court smelled funky, the outer lying area was a different story--clean, dimly lit, and offering a fully stocked bar which I took full advantage of (Vegas bomb, anyone?).  The Vegas Bombs were damn good, perfectly strong but not too much Red Bull.  I also had a cpl vodka sodas and I thought the drink prices were reasonable (Absolut $5.25).
I'd def return to have drinks and do something different, instead of barhopping for everysingleperson's bday as we adults tend to do.  Good times fa sho.

This place was fun, though I think some things could be better.

I was recently there for a birthday party, and we had a group of about 20 people. We were on the court that was on the far left hand side when you walk in, and our group occupied the area off to that side, giving us a great view of the court.

I played a couple games and sat some out since not everyone could play at once. The cars that they had weren't in the best shape. The steering wheel thingie was covered with inches and inches of duct tape, and they didn't steer very well. It just seemed like the cars were really old and could have used a little TLC. I was talking to one of the girls in our group, and she said the WhirlyBall location in Chicago was way nicer and had better cars.

Another area with room for improvement was at the bar. I had to wait 20 minutes for a drink! What the heck? There was only one bartender, and she was super slow! It took her forever to make drinks and for people to pay. They should have had at least one other bartender working there. There was some guy walking around in the bar area, but I don't know what he was doing. He certainly wasn't making drinks.

To make matters worse, the drinks were NOT cheap. They were $7-$10 each and were nothing spectacular. WhirlyBall itself wasn't cheap either. You'd think it would be a cheap night out, like bowling, but it's not.

Overall, we had a good time. The game itself is cool, but it's hard because no one in our group was that good, which can make it kind of boring and frustrating. If one of my friends had another birthday party at this WhirlyBall location, I would go, but I wouldn't seek this place out on my own.

I came here last weekend to celebrate a friend's birthday. Although I've been here briefly before, this was the first time I ever played. I didn't think I would enjoy it but I actually had a lot of fun!! It took a couple games for me to get the hang of maneuvering the bumper cars, but I felt like a pro by the end. We had a good group of people and some awesome competition during our hour-long block. The bar/restaurant itself seemed pretty empty, though, with the exception of a couple other large groups. It didn't seem like the place to be on a Friday night. While I had fun with my friends here, I generally enjoyed my time at another Whirlyball location better -- there was more to do: laser tag, pool, good drinks, good crowd, etc.

My group of friends and I had a great time whirlyballing! I would definitely recommend this for any group of people looking for a great time that are tired of doing the same old thing. For $20 per person, a group of twenty played unlimited whirlyball, and drank unlimited amounts of beer and wine for two hours. 10 people played at once during each 8 minute game. Harris, our referee was great. He even gave us a few more minutes at the end due to a couple bumper car issues which ate up some time.  I had no bruising or nausea (as my sister warned) although my left forearm is a little sore but I blame my weak arms.

Fantastic time!  My office went there for our annual outing, and the Whirlyball experience did not disappoint.  Fast action, lots of fun, and even the beginners could play.  Well-lit, clean and inviting atmosphere.

The facility has two separate courts, so we didn't have to interact at all with the group on the other court.  Though the courts shared a wall, the Lounge areas for food and bar were located on the outer sides.  Lounge was very conveniently located courtside, with full view through glass walls all the way down the court, complete with a full bar. The Referee was great, and waited patiently while our teams went on and off the court.

One note of caution:  Pretzels on the Catering Menu are not soft-baked, but mini-hard-pretzels you can buy at the grocery store in a bag.  Yuck.

This update is at least a year overdue... but about a year ago I took a group of my managers to Whirly Ball as a reward. When we got on the court to play there was a problem and the court just wouldn't work. They said we could play on the other court when the group using it was done. We were going to have to wait a while so they gave us a free pizza and a couple pitchers of soda. Way to make it right Whirly Ball.  Thanks for always providing a good time.

Whoa WhirlyBall has upped their game! I was last here about two years ago and it was ok, kinda old and run down. But they've apparently done two remodelings since and it is much nicer now! They've got a large, open area with bar tables, pool tables, and other games. The bar is now stocked with a large selection of liquor and a huge beer list at very reasonable prices! We may come back just for drinks cause they're a great deal.
Oh and let's not forget the fun of WhirlyBall...but be prepared to be sore after it's all done! :)

I went with a large group to celebrate a friend's birthday and everyone had a great time!

It took me a few seconds to get used to driving the bumper car with the crank handle in on hand, the scoop in the other, and being able to switch between the two. I was warned about getting bruises on my legs, but I don't know what the big deal was about, my legs didn't get touched at all. Maybe people with Hulk or He-Man legs have coming here.

Anyway, all I have to say is:
Bumper Cars + Lacrosse + Basketball = AWESOME

In addition to the WhirlyBall courts, they had food, a full bar (with some local & not-so-local brews), pool tables, air hockey, pinball, and some other video games. The guy who took care of our group was cool, we got hooked up with extra playtime, and he was a good referee too. Our food, however, was not as good as the service was. We had the pizza, which was meh..., but what do you expect from a menu that's pretty much all bar food.

All in all, WhirlyBall is a great place to go with a bunch of friends to have fun. I highly recommend going with your family or coworkers so you can play a sport where you get the satisfaction of driving moving vehicles into each other.

    Holla!!!â„¢

Consider my mind blown. I'd heard about Whirlyball and to be honest I was skeptical until a friend told us how awesome it really was.

A group of us met here to celebrate our buddy's birthday and boy I'm glad we did. We walked in and I thought - wow - seedy - but it was a good time. A good selection of beers on tap, cheap cocktails, top shelf liquor (the Goose was loose), snackycakes and silliness. Tack on air hockey, pool and other miscellaneous games and our night was complete.

We will definitely be back with other friends/family that haven't played before. We've done a good job of convincing them they have to go!

I'm not really good at it at all but still had a blast! My body was sore though, bruises on my hip bones to prove it. My back is a bit sore, too. High impact! Others had bruises on their legs from the carts but we don't mind. You only live once ... More Whirlyball!

My leg bruises prove - I had a fun night at Whirlyball!

I must admit, I had no idea WTH this whirlyball thing was all about. When people try to explain it to you, it doesn't help - you become more confused. Just go and experience it for yourself. You'll be glad you did.

For anyone who is fun and out-going, whirlyball is a blast! I went as a chaperone for some teenagers and both the adults and the teens had tons of fun! When you are not playing, there is a bar with food as well as pool tables and arcade games. My only disclaimer is that your legs get bruised up from the sticks on the bumper cars so make sure you have one hand on the stick at all times. Somehow you really work up a sweat playing too! It's an awesome time and I loved it! I definitely recommend it!

Myself, like many of my peers, like to have a few libations. I'm ALWAYS for any activity that combines this with some game of skill. WhirlyBall fits this desciption and is reasonably priced. I can't say it's for all, but if you don't need to win at a sport to have fun doing it, YOU MUST TRY IT!

Wine coolers, the smell of nickel from the car steering wheel on my hands, wine served in plastic cups, nearly cracking my front tooth when my chunky necklace flipped up as I got plowed from behind, and good ole fashioned fun.

For me, this is a generous 3 stars because you will always, without fail, undoubtedly, get sick after going here. Germs, germs, germs. You just can't trust the cleanliness of places like these. If I return, I'm bringing my own fire extinguisher full of Lysol. And though it's fun while you play, you can pretty much plan on having back spasms and bruises for weeks to come. I once went 2 weeks before I was off to Vegas and that equaled a BIG mistake. I had HUGE bruises up and down my inner thighs for the next 4 weeks. I looked like a character on SVU laying out by the Vegas pools with my hematoma clad legs.

If you go, prepare yourself for a world of fun that night, but also a world of hurt that can last into the next month, post play time.

Do you like getting drunk and ramming people from behind? Then Whirlyball is for perverts like you that thought I was talking about something else!!!! but seriously...
Bumper cars with inverse steering is your mode of transportation, lacrosse scoops is your tool, suspended soccer goal/basketball hoop is your objective, crippling your opponents spinal column is your secret fantasy.
This is really fun. My co-workers and I spent 1.5 hours playing this game and like Baby, I had the time of my life. Although difficult to get the hang of, this sport negates most athletic ability and will have you laughing or coughing blood in no time.
A nice bar area is adjacent to 2 courts that look a lot like a hockey rink surrounded by plexiglass. The food is "OKAY", but does that really matter after 7 Jack and Cokes?
Only downside is that from the outside, the place looks like crap, and when you black out, you'll think you're in Cicero, Ilinois.

    Overall, very fun time!

Strategy. Power Plays. Out maneuvering. Winners and Losers. Things flying past your head. Just another day at the office? Not a chance unless your office has it's outing at Whirlyball.

Whirlyball is a combination of bumper cars, La Crosse and basketball made all the crazier by lots of beer and friendly competition towards those you work with. This "sport" is not for the faint of heart. You are slammed into, hit with flying plastic balls and go hoarse from screaming at your teammates to "get the ball"!

Your head slams against the back of the bumper car as you are rear and side ended time and time again. Talk about multitasking! Once you remember how to make the bumper cars move- you are handed a racquet and told the rules of the game.

They have a party room you can rent and eat pizza and beer to your heart's content. This location has been recently remodeled to include a full sports bar, full menu and some pool tables. Hard to find as it is located in a decrepit mall but worth the hunt and search.

Frightening, hilarious, addictive, and competitive. Now isn't that just like a day at the office?

CRAAAAZZZZYYYY!  Bumper cars, whiffle balls, and whip lash.  My brothers and cousins and I came here for some emotional release while in town for my grandmother's funeral.  I didn't know what to make of this place but found it kinda fun crashing into my relatives.  I love them dearly but there is something to feeling like a 5 year old again and immersing myself in some plain, simple fun.

A bit pricey and be aware that it's easy to get hurt.  Both my brothers got bruised up from ball smacking them or crashing too hard.  At least the bartender was kind enough to give us some free ice.

Really fun but really expensive! This place is a serious bare bones environment. Your big bucks definitely don't go into the decoration of the joint. Probably to the insurance company because I can see why some drunken maniacs would get all riled up and start taking each other out. Anyway, if you have group of decently fun people, they will become wild and crazy when presented with Whirly Ball. It really is fun but you don't get to do too much whirly-balling for your money.

Bumber cars, a hand basket for a ball, a court like setting were you fling a ball across the room trying to score points.  All at the same time being slammed into by friends!  It's something that belongs at the local miniture golf course, right next too the go-karts, and bumber boats!  It being on it's own, may make it something that needs to be experienced, and not so well talked about.  If your in the Chicago area, and have NOTHING to do, give this a shot.  Grab a snack, have a few freinds over, and play the game.  Meet for dinner afterwords, and talk about what the hell just happened!

    -Bumber Cars
    -Beers
    -45 min, of non-stop action
    -Competitive chatter
    -Being SLAMMED INTO!

This is a game were you need a break after a few minutes, but it's worth the 45 minutes you spend zipping around in your own bumber car, trying really hard trying to score goals!

I probably should give this place three stars because it wasn't as bad as I feared!   But, there is just something fundamentally wrong with a place that serves cheap wine, a myriad of beers and then encourages adults to drive bumper cars and play something akin to La Crosse!?

At any rate, my companions seemed to really enjoy themselves and quite honestly, it wasn't "that bad"....of course, the beer helped!!

Whirlyball was everything I wanted it to be.  Our referee was fun and helped us learn how to play.  If you have friends from out of town (which I was), take them here!  They'll be craving it when they return home.

    +bumper cars
    +whiffle balls
    +scoup stick thingies
+backboards with nets to shoot at
    +cool friends to crash into
+beer to drink when you're done
=what more could you ask for?!

Fun place to experience a good beating. Awake to bruises in places you've never had, banged up legs and overextension of the muscles...ah yes, and loss of fingernails. My suggestion would be to drink heavily before attemping this type of physical activity.

If your not feeling up for whirly ball, there is an area to sit and watch it happen to others, while snacking on bar food & drinks.

Don't get me wrong, it really is a fun game once you learn how to maneuver the kart. However, the more competivtive you are, the more brutal it will become.
