D.O.C. is one of our favorite places in the Lombard/Oak Brook area to relax and unwind. It is especially enjoyable in warmer months when you may sit outside. The terrace faces south so you're always sure to get a little sun (there's some shade too).
All the food we've tried at D.O.C. has been delicious. One of our favorite things to do is split a Butcher's Plate -- your selection of cheeses, cured meats, bruschetta -- either a small one for an appetizer or a large one for lunch or dinner. There are always excellent items from which to choose and the descriptions are very helpful if you wish to select something new-to-you to experience.
I recently ordered a shrimp ceviche appetizer which was as good as any ceviche I've ever had. Plentiful shrimp and very well seasoned. Recommended. My husband often enjoys one of D.O.C.'s paninis. I cannot recommend the chorizo stuffed dates wholeheartedly. The sauce is too thick and tastes to me like it came out of a can. The chorizo is lackluster. I much prefer the dates wrapped in bacon at Meson Sabika (Naperville) or Emilio's (Hillside) even though they do not come with chorizo. Many of my friends enjoy the desserts -- there's a giant warm chocolate chip cookie and a s'mores uh... thingy -- but I'd rather have more cheese! Food prices are generally what you'd expect for the area; on some items maybe slightly less.
I find wine to be one to two dollars more expensive per glass at D.O.C. than at other nice restaurants in the area. Note, however, that I do not have great knowledge of wine and it may be that I'm comparing apples to oranges. If you know wine, you might find prices more than reasonable. There is usually one relatively inexpensive prosecco by the glass for those of you who prefer your wine to sparkle.
Service is always good in a relaxed way. I never feel hurried. I never feel intimidated by the servers knowledge of wine. Service is there when you need it and unobtrusive when you don't.
Also note the following specials:
Sunday - Half-Price Wine Flights
Monday - Half-Price Bottles of Wine
Tuesday - Half-Price Glasses of Wine
Parking could not be easier.
Classy, laid back restaurant with good food and great wine.
I usually can't bear to order wine at restaurants due to the massive markup, but I definitely indulge at DOC when I manage to get there on Tuesdays -- half-off all glasses of wine! Basically only $4-5 for some very quality quaffers. (If you also get there between 3 and 6, you can also get half-off apps with purchase of wine.)
This place takes their wine seriously and will not mind if you ask for a sample or two before you decide. I really, really loved their viognier, but looks like they don't have it anymore. Will have to find a new fave.
I've had the blue cheese and chips as well as the mushroom risotto fritters. Both were great, and an incredible value at the happy hour price of $4 each. The chips came out in an enormous portion with lots of flavorful blue cheese. The fritters were outstanding, super rich and creamy. Can't wait to return and try the bruschetta!
