D.O.C. is one of our favorite places in the Lombard/Oak Brook area to relax and unwind. It is especially enjoyable in warmer months when you may sit outside. The terrace faces south so you're always sure to get a little sun (there's some shade too).

All the food we've tried at D.O.C. has been delicious. One of our favorite things to do is split a Butcher's Plate -- your selection of cheeses, cured meats, bruschetta -- either a small one for an appetizer or a large one for lunch or dinner. There are always excellent items from which to choose and the descriptions are very helpful if you wish to select something new-to-you to experience.

I recently ordered a shrimp ceviche appetizer which was as good as any ceviche I've ever had. Plentiful shrimp and very well seasoned. Recommended. My husband often enjoys one of D.O.C.'s paninis. I cannot recommend the chorizo stuffed dates wholeheartedly. The sauce is too thick and tastes to me like it came out of a can. The chorizo is lackluster. I much prefer the dates wrapped in bacon at Meson Sabika (Naperville) or Emilio's (Hillside) even though they do not come with chorizo. Many of my friends enjoy the desserts -- there's a giant warm chocolate chip cookie and a s'mores uh... thingy -- but I'd rather have more cheese! Food prices are generally what you'd expect for the area; on some items maybe slightly less.

I find wine to be one to two dollars more expensive per glass at D.O.C. than at other nice restaurants in the area. Note, however, that I do not have great knowledge of wine and it may be that I'm comparing apples to oranges. If you know wine, you might find prices more than reasonable. There is usually one relatively inexpensive prosecco by the glass for those of you who prefer your wine to sparkle.

Service is always good in a relaxed way. I never feel hurried. I never feel intimidated by the servers knowledge of wine. Service is there when you need it and unobtrusive when you don't.

Also note the following specials:
Sunday - Half-Price Wine Flights
Monday - Half-Price Bottles of Wine
Tuesday - Half-Price Glasses of Wine

Parking could not be easier.

Had appetizers and wine flights. Great food, wine and service. Will definitely return. Would be great for a group too.

Classy, laid back restaurant with good food and great wine.

I usually can't bear to order wine at restaurants due to the massive markup, but I definitely indulge at DOC when I manage to get there on Tuesdays -- half-off all glasses of wine! Basically only $4-5 for some very quality quaffers. (If you also get there between 3 and 6, you can also get half-off apps with purchase of wine.)

This place takes their wine seriously and will not mind if you ask for a sample or two before you decide. I really, really loved their viognier, but looks like they don't have it anymore. Will have to find a new fave.

I've had the blue cheese and chips as well as the mushroom risotto fritters. Both were great, and an incredible value at the happy hour price of $4 each. The chips came out in an enormous portion with lots of flavorful blue cheese. The fritters were outstanding, super rich and creamy. Can't wait to return and try the bruschetta!

Love love love their butcher boards and wine flights! The waitstaff is great and always friendly. This time around we had Paul as our server. He was very knowledgeable and knew the right amount of attention to give us. He checked at just the right intervals, but didn't bug us and we certainly didn't feel neglected. It was a perfect night out!

This place is EXPENSIVE AS HELL but it is worth it. I don't always spend $100 on lunch (yes, you read that correctly) but when I do, it's at DOC. I hope you imagined me as the most interesting woman in the world there, by the way.

I got together with a friend for lunch and copious amounts of wine (LAY OFF ME, it's Spring Break!) and I've got to say, I enjoyed myself thoroughly. The wine list here is pretty amazing...the menu has wines by the glass, flights, and bottles (listed by area and type) and the selection is pretty impressive. We were debating what type of wine to get and our server was really knowledgeable and let us try a couple of tastes before committing ourselves to a whole bottle. (They don't skimp on tastes either...I'd say we each got an ounce or two of each wine we tried) I don't know if it's a Monday deal or what, but any bottle under $100 was half off today...which, thank goodness, because the up-charge on the bottles here is ridiculous (seriously, a bottle of Chateau St. Michelle was $40!). We ended up going with a Napa Valley wine, the Cult Cab Sauv, which was amazing, and with the half price deal was normal priced at $30.

The food was fantastic too...they offer a lot of small plates and lighter bites, but naturally I had to go with something burger-ish, because that's my jam. I got the slider combo and chose the filet slider and the ahi tuna slider (with fries). BOTH WERE THE BOMB. Seriously, the sauces and toppings for each were perfect. My friend got the ahi salad, and seemed pretty happy too. I swear it's not the wine talking, either.

Overall, the service is great, the atmosphere is cool, the food and wine are perfect...besides lowering the prices a bit, I can't ask for more.

I came here for lunch w/ a co-worker. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It was pretty much dead in there but it was kind of late for lunch.
We started w/ the buffalo shrimp and they were great!!
Then we both got fish tacos. Mine were way too salty!!! Too salty to eat.

If it's Tuesday, you need to be at DOC. 1/2 price wines, gotta say this was a treat. Tried several of the plates and several of the wines. Not one was a disappointment. Save room for the desserts too. Fun Place, Fun Times.

My husband and I had an early Friday night dinner here, and we really enjoyed ourselves. We ordered a small butcher's plate, a couple of entrees, and a bottle of wine. The butcher's plate is a very fun option, and we will definitely do it again if we go back. The marinated feta was delicious! Our entrees were good, but the portions were surprisingly small. The service was friendly but we would have appreciated some recommendations since it was our first time visiting. The only reason we will hesitate to go back is the pricing. While the food is very good, we felt like it wasn't entirely worth the price. It's definitely a fun date place, though!

Been here several times now with a girlfriend of mine. We get the butchers plate and wine and always have a nice girls night. The wait staff is nice and willing to offer up suggestions when asked. We have a favorite waiter but certainly not a help if you want to turn things down. :-) Only reason I say 4 stars here is other menu variety I am not a fan and it is a little dark. I know it is supposed to be an ambience thing but I feel like its bordering on ugly date dark lighting.

Met with long lost friend over for dinner, and the location was chosen based on the Yelp! reviews- and it didn't disappoint!

We were immediately greeted by two friendly hostesses that accidentally escorted us to the wrong table, which allowed us to view the restaurant as we walked to another table; beautifully integrated, layout, very comforting setting, with friendly staff. The rest of the evening, we had the pleasure of being served by Paul, whom was very helpful in answering questions, and extremely patient towards us without ever being too much while her and I talked nonstop instead of looking at the menus.

We began our orders with different wine flights with 3 glasses which for the price, I somewhat expected either another glass or slightly more in each glass; not big of a deal. I ordered the Cedar Plank Salmon which I honestly thought it was one of the best salmon's I have had in a while; perfectly cooked, flavored, and tender - I would totally order again and highly recommend to others. While we were walking out, a section of the restaurant caught my interest as it appeared that the music was slightly louder with a trendier beat.

Overall, I was impressed with the restaurant, the employees, and with the food, mainly when it's in the suburbs. I would totally come back here with friends, or for a date...I kind of can't wait to go back and try some more!

so, I am now sad that I'm already married and can't have a bridal shower at this place. It would be perfect.
Stopped in here with my friend after a marathon of trying to shop for other people... and ending up shopping for ourselves.
Service was great, our waitress was there when needed but not pushy.
Wine was good. And it was an okay price too.
And the food was marvelous. We ordered the calamari and were surprised at how good the flavors of the calamari and the peppers went together. My friend ordered ... I don't know what she ordered but she seemed to enjoy it (which is a feat because she's a notoriously picky eater) and she ordered potato cakes as her side and let me try some... awesome. I had the black and bleu flatbread and it was really good and HUGE. I had enough leftover for an entire new meal.
I'd comment on prices but I didn't pay for lunch, so I can't say how much it cost.
Overall it was a great time, we will certainly be back.

Dark, swanky place to stop in for a glass of wine post holiday shopping. Great BTG options. We didn't have any food, but the service was professional, the music wasn't too loud or distracting and the wine selection was spectacular. We will be back. Besides, Christmas shopping leaves my wife and I in desperate need of unwinding.

An old friend and I came here to catch up over dinner and drinks. He had read fantastic things about the place, so I was looking forward to it.

There was some seating confusion when we arrived, but it was remedied quickly. Our server (Paul) was attentive without being overbearing; actually, he was quite patient, as my friend and I were playing "catch up" so much that we didn't even look at the menu for a while.

We each had the Chocolate and Cassis wine flights, which we enjoyed, but were much smaller in quantity than I expected. (We later followed with a glass of 154 Malbec for him and the Tin Roof Merlot for me). He ordered the Cedar Plank Salmon and said it was good, while I had the Carbernet Braised Short Ribs. When my plate arrived, the mashed potatoes underneath the ribs were luke-warm at best, while the short ribs were piping hot. Clearly the kitchen had some timing issues. My short ribs quite literally melted off of the bone which was amazing, but some of the outside edges of the meat were black and charred. It was good, but I'd have expected greater consistency (temperature, cooked well) for a pricey entree.

Still, I think I'd go back, skip the Flights in lieu of a few full glasses of wine, and give them another chance to not burn the food. :)

If you're a wine-o looking to dine-o then D.O.C. will show you a good time-o. There are plenty of meat and cheese options that pair nicely with their fine wine selection. Yumm-o!

Oh dear, I wish I would have stayed away from this place but it really looked nice.

Anyway, here's the DISGUSTING part. The waiter came over to take our order and he had food in his mouth while attempting to talk and said food flew out his mouth and landed on our table.
Waiter proceeded to stare at the food he spit on our table as he took our order then walked away. We figured he would come back and wipe it down. Not a chance. Good thing I had tissues with me since they have cloth napkins and I didn't want to use that to wipe it up
GROSS!!! GROSS!!! GROSS!!!

Food is small and expensive! I had some kind of seared tuna salad and it was just ok tasting, but tiny. I also ordered a side of asparagus , it was the smallest asparagus I've ever seen in my life, there were 5 pieces about an 1/8 of an inch in diameter all shriveled up for a cost of 5.99. What a joke.

The diet coke, how can you screw that up? Didn't even taste like pop, it was like some kind of chemical that should not be taken by mouth.

Way overpriced cheap food, however if you're one of those people who enjoy spending a great deal of money for little value this is the place for you.

We had a very strange experience at DOC last night. We'll be back, mostly for the food.

Pros: Food was great -- meat & cheese, braised short ribs; fun atmosphere

Cons: Wine flights were a bit expensive for the meager pours we got. We seemed to have the worst waitress on staff and were seated in a back corner next to a college (?) couple who were all over each other the entire time.

Did you say flight of wine? Don't mind if I do! Love, love the wine selection here, especially the flights. Wine makes me happy, and well, DOC makes me happy.

Great place to meet up with friends for a drink.

Mas Vino por favor! This place has good weekeday specials. I went on a Tuesday and they had half off wine glasses. The malbec is delicious! I didn't have any food so I can't comment on that but it was a nice place to grab some vino and chat!

My friend and I wanted to try something new in the Yorktown area and I can say that we were impressed with the decor and restaurant and very satisfied at the end of our meal. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable about wines and the food that D.O.C. has to offer. We went on a Tuesday and were happy to hear that glasses of wine ($15 and under) were half off. However, I opted for a wine flight and was very pleased!

We started with a butcher plate - YUMMY! We did the small version and it was just right for two people to split. I would recommend the ricotta, pistachio and honey bruschetta - DELICIOUS and very refreshing! I was impressed with the quality of the meat and cheese and also the quantity for $15. We then split the Wrightwood salad and the Margherita flatabread - all was very good and filling without having that "heavy I can't move" feeling.

I will be going back here to try other options on the menu and different wines!

Stopped in again Wednesday the 1st. Had another nice flight and some good conversation with the MOD and the chef. Unfortunately my mind is like a sieve when it comes to names. I'll have to see you a few times before a name sinks in. Tony Burger was gracious enough to send me an e-mail about my earlier review. Thanks for your time, both Tony and the staff, and your courtesy.

Hip and trendy environment. Since I am not a wine connoisseur the selection of wine is a bit overwhelming, but my server was very friendly and recommended an excellent wine.

The food is a bit pricey, but you are paying more for the environment and the wine, than the selection of food. I would recommend the cheese and meat platter as you get to choose the cheeses and coordinate them with your wine. Again my server was ready to step in and help me choose.

All in all I would definitely go here again to meet up with friends for a drink.

I will admit today is my birthday and that translates into- I get to pick where we go for dinner. The first two places I thought of were- BANG! Closed on Monday. Then I remembered D.O.C. I wanted champagne damn it and they have the real thing and it's half price Monday so apparently fate intervened.

I'm just never disappointed by this place. Yes service can be a little slow, what's your hurry? I like that you can custom make a Butchers Plate. We mixed it up with bruschetta and cheeses. So divine. Thank you for not having it on bread that scrapes your gums raw. We also got the chips with blue cheese and bechamel and hot sauce. Ugh so good. Thanky that's as far as we got to ordering because I couldn't eat another bite. If we had ordered the sliders I would have died from being a glutton. But I'll go back for the crab cakes, filets, and mini cheeseburgers!!!

So come enjoy a nicely transformed grape beverage and some pretty stellar noshes.

A great place to chat with friends or go on a date. We came here by accident on a Friday night. We did have to wait awhile to get seated but we were able to sit at the bar for a glass of wine while waiting.

The wine selection was extensive and I had one of the best Rieslings ever!

The ambiance is dark and you really don't feel like you are at a mall area.

We loved the Dip trio (beer cheese was sooo good!) and mushroom fritters.

We also ordered a flat bread (Our least favorite but it was still good) and combo of sliders (which were excellent!)

For a wine bar we didn't expect the food to be as good but we were very surprised and happy!

Went here for the Hartford Court Wine Dinner on March 27 and was not impressed. The "four-course" meal was not up to par by any means, and certainly not worth the outrageous amount of money we paid for a suburban wine tasting from an unknown vintner.

When we arrived, we were poured a rather uninteresting glass of Hartford's 2010 Russian River Chardonnary and treated to bruschetta and flatbread. I am so tired of seeing bruschetta on the menu - when Olive Garden starts serving it, it is no longer a clever hors d'oeuvres. It tasted absolutely fine, but then again, it is nearly impossible to mess up diced tomatoes on toast. The flatbread tasted much better than it looked. Heaped with arugula, it looked more like a pita bread salad, but the dried cherries on top gave it some worthiness.

I wish I could say the meal improved as it continued, but in fact, by the time I received my cold - yes, cold - duck, I was ready to leave. Other courses included a jumbo lump crab salad, which apparently means a salad where a tablespoon of crab meat is lumped on top, as well as a cheese course that arrived looking more like an after-school snack of Kraft singles. The only redeeming course was dessert, a dark chocolate demi sphere with a creme brulee raspberry mousse. It was extremely rich, but well done.

Throughout the meal, someone from the winery explains why each wine is best suited for the course, but all the explanations in the world can't make bad wine taste better. We sampled five additional wines after the chard, all from Hartford. If they were drinkable, this might have been a good value.

But overall, the wines were horrible, the food was awful, and best of all, we were seated with a rather drippy couple who said little, but is apparently on first-name basis with all the staff. Not exactly my idea of a great evening, but I sure did appreciate the "optional" gratuity added onto my $140 bill. While I might give the restaurant another shot, I certainly will not be attending another wine dinner, and I would encourage any serious wine drinkers to stay away!

I need to go on a night other then Tuesday so I can try some wines that don't fall under half price. I just can't bring myself to get anything not half price on Tuesdays... why get one glass of wine, when you can get two for the price of one!?

I have to say, pretty good wine selection. I'm a little offended that the "Libra" flight does not match any wines that I like though! The whole flights by your astrological sign is pretty fun though, I like it.

I have not been disappointed by the food. Go during Happy Hour to get that half off as well (but on Tuesdays the half off wine is all night). I've mostly just gotten apps/dessert, but loved everything. Favorites have been the calamari, their beer cheese dip is AMAZING, and I'm never let down by splitting a gooey giant fresh baked cookie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top (but how can you be).

A fun place to go after work or after some dinner. I'd definitely say if you are in the mood for a few glasses of wine, stop on by!

Loved the Virgo combination of wines, my husband had the Taurus which was also a great combination.
I had the chicken saltimbucca. This was an excellent choice.

I had the chocolate chip skillet to finish. What a perfect ending to a fine meal with family!

My wife and I went to D.O.C. Wine bar on a Saturday night. I typically try to avoid restaurants located in a strip mall like D.O.C. but when you live in the suburbs sometimes you have to suck it up. We had 7:45pm reservations, but we were seated immediately when we arrived 15 minutes early (nice). The ambiance of this place is nice, many of the tables are booths so it's easy to have a conversation.

For appetizers we ordered the chips and blue cheese (outstanding) and chorizo stuffed dates (solid). We shared a large butcher plate for the entree, it's hard to go wrong with cheese and salted meats! We ordered the chocolate cookie dessert, which was neat because it's served in a skillet with ice cream on top. I wish it had a little more ice cream, but it was pretty darn good.

One other thing I like about D.O.C. wine bar is that they offer wine flights which is a fun way to try different wines with your meal. I also think the flights are a little better $ value versus buying wine by the glass.

What a romantic place! The setting, the wine, the food all creates a really intimate kind of feel in here. All of the employees were nice and warm and we never wanted for anything. Our server made some great wine suggestions, as well as knowing exactly what cheese to order. Fabulous!

This place is a little pricey, but who cares, it's only money right? Glasses of wine average at about 11$ but they have a couple for around 7$. The entree selection is not extensive, but I was impressed with what they had to offer. I ordered from the butcher block and was delightfully surprised with the delicious options. The white bean/balsamic bruchetta is a must have, as well as the cured duck and their brie. I was not much a fan of their smoked salmon, it didn't seemed smoked enough, but still tasted ok.

This is a great hangout place and the perfect date night spot. The romantic setting, candles on the tables and large amounts of wine will no doubt lead to good times. Enjoy!

This is a wine-themed restaurant, not a wine bar. The key difference is having knowledgeable staff who can guide guests through the wine list. This restaurant does not have that.

I went for drinks after work with co-workers and we wanted to split a bottle. We decided to go for an Australian red and asked the server for guidance. Instead of asking us what we were looking for or telling us about a few of the bottles, she tells us that "you can't go wrong with bottle A or B" which are the two most expensive in the section at nearly double the price of the majority of the bottles. Really? Can you explain why we can't go wrong? What are the wines like? When we asked about a particular bottle, the waitress was no help because she wasn't familiar with it.

The bottle we ordered was good but the glass of malbec afterwards was very bad. I'm surprised that it would be the one chosen to represent the varietal on the "by the glass" menu since it was terrible and would turn anyone off to malbecs.

The ambiance is good and there is a good selection of wines as well as a full bar. I didn't try the food but it looked good. I'll probably go back but I'll lower my expectations and do my own wine research via google before ordering.

I'd recommend this for a girls' night or a first date spot. Not too dark or loud and a chic but not too trendy setting. Very busy on a Thursday night.

The SERVICE: I walked in, and asked how long the wait was. The hostess didn't tell me, just said I could sit at the bar and wait because "it would be awhile." She was friendly, but not helpful. While waiting, she again told me I could sit at the bar. I heard ya the first time! Once my friend arrived, she said, "it could be 45 minutes. Or longer. There's 2 tables ahead of you." Why didn't she tell me this when I walked in? People might as well seat themselves here.

The DRINKS: We both had the "Taurus" wine flight; moscato, riesling and dry riesling. If you like moscato, try this! Both rieslings tasted like pinot grigio to me. Not a fan and wished I had ordered a glass (or two) of the moscato instead.

The FOOD: We both had butcher blocks, (small is 15, large is 26). I had the large. The small seemed skimpy, and I was hungry. The deal is, you choose 4 (or 8) items (cheese, meats and bruschettas). What I had:

The cheese: My favorites were the gouda and white ceddar. The white cheddar has tons of flavor and was good with the meats.

The meats: Sopressta was good, but the same as what you'd get at a deli. Beef tenderloin was so tender!

The bruschetta: Absolutely LOVED the pistachio and ricotta. Also had the apple and brie. Both very light and full of flavor. I would get these again.

The VALUE: Well, the butcher block is pricey. Glasses of wine run about 10, and other main courses 10-12. So it's reasonable.

Oh wait! DESSERT. I am always disappointed by desserts at restaurants, but their chocolate cookie was SO GOOD. Save room.

Horrible.

I met a friend here on a Wednesday night after work for drinks and food. I drove all the way from the city to meet her here, so I was looking forward to the "upper class" wine bar experience.

Instead, I got mediocre service with a side of horrible food.

We ordered appetizers to split:

- House Cured Salmon
- Drip Trio (beer cheese, hummus, guacamole)

Wine:

- Taurus flight
This flight was very good and the mascato was to die for!

The salmon app was horrible! The salmon is cut into such thin slivers that you can see through them. The salmon itself came out as a peachy, transparent color, rather than a healthy pink salmon color (that might explain why I've been taking Pepto Bismal for 2 days). The salmon is doused with too much dill (I like dill, but c'mon). The "sauce" or "cream" that comes with it literally tastes like someone accidentally spilled water in the ramekin of sour cream. The flatbread crackers the dish is served with were stale and very hard to chew.

The dip trio was equally as disgusting.
The guacamole tasted like store-bought guac, only worse. For an up-scale restaurant, I felt like I was eating Wal-Mart guac. The "hummus" tasted like smashed chic peas and no seasoning - we didn't get through 2 bites of the hummus. The only saving grace was the beer cheese, which although good, was served with one measly soft pretzel which is hard to "share" like they suggest on the menu.

The service was "eh" all night, until it came to the bill and then it was more like, "horrific".

We were handed a check for $104. I gave the waiter $60 in cash and a credit card and said, "split it". In a NORMAL world, that means take $60 off the $104 bill in cash, and charge the card $44. INSTEAD, he comes back to the table, telling me my card was declined (it wasn't). I asked him how much he'd already charged on the card (I had a feeling he'd messed the charge up) and he said, "I didn't charge anything".

After I gave him cash to pay the remainder of the bill, I checked my bank statement from my phone to see if he had charged anything and low and behold he HAD; he charged my card $60!

When I confronted him about why he charged my card $20 more than I instructed him to he said he thought, "split it' meant he wanted me to put $60 on the card because there was $60 in cash.

WHAT?!

So, he assumed I meant: give yourself a $20 tip?!

How presumptuous.

Later he said "a lot of people do that" - meaning, "split it" to include tip.

Who does that? Seriously. Tell me who.

No one does that. That's who.

...and really, after his lackluster service, did he really think he deserved a $20 tip?

I will NEVER return to this location - or any other D.O.C location for that matter.

I was, let's say, less than impressed. My best friend, T and I went here for wine last week. OK, I bought the Groupon, and was excited to use it. I've been here before and thought it would be great. Well, that was when it first opened. Now is another story.

While I do really enjoy the cheese and meat plates...(Ok, those were a GREAT selection of pretty decently priced restaurant style cheesy goodness,) the service sucked. It wasn't just bad. It was awful. No one smiled. Seriously, it was hard to get anyone to crack a measly happy face.

We walked in and were told that there was a wait. No worries, we'll wander the mall while you put us on the list. The hostess looked miserable and annoyed that we wanted to wait for a table. (And probably even more annoyed that we would *gasp* leave the premises for 15 minutes of the 30 minute wait).

Upon our return, she told us that there was a table available inside (Still *surprise surprise* not smiling.) She led us there, and I could sense by her facial expression that she was upset about needing to clear the table for us. Apparently the server didn't do it fast enough. We soon figured out why, and I really can't blame the hostess now.

Our server took a good 10 minutes to greet us (We were, thankfully greeted by someone else, and brought water). She, too, was not a smiler. She was slow in everything from bringing us our drinks to bringing us our check. We watched as she (and other servers) lollygagged around the restaurant as if it wasn't packed wall to wall with guests. No one (sans one male server) looked like they enjoyed their jobs.

The white wines we ordered (a pinot grigio and a Riesling) were good, but the malbec and pinot noir that we tried weren't very good.

So maybe it was a bad night. Maybe someone called in sick. Maybe it would be better next time...but I'm not really sure I care.

Now I know why I don't drink wine....BEER IS CHEAPER!!! LOL Isn't that clASSy? haha

After droppin a hundo for happy hour with some friends, I decided happy hour had been over and "you're gonna go broke drinking our wine-hour" was in full effect! But their food selection is still pretty good.

I originally thought I'd give this place only 4 stars, but the more I thought about it, I realized I just had to give it 5...I just couldn't think of a single thing I disliked, and things here are not just "good" or "not bad" or even "great"...everything I had was awesome, delicious, A++++, super, duper, mega awesomely awesome. Now I think I might be a little biased because pretty much everything they serve is one of my favorite foods ever. Good wine? Yes please! Assorted meats and cheeses? Hell yeah! Unique bruschettas? Bring it on!

So here's the lowdown on some specific foods I had on my latest visit...we didn't order actual entrees, but opted for an assortment of appetizers and plates to share. Although, I should mention I have tasted various entrees including the gnocchi and salmon, all of which were superb. But alas, I am a big fan of the snacks-as-a-meal form of eating, and since DOC has such great apps, I find it hard to make myself order an entree. Okay, back to the specifics...

We got one of their Butcher's Plates were you can pick an assortment of meats and cheeses which are served with assorted bread and crackers (and how can you go wrong with cheese and wine?). We had aged gouda, gruyere, blue cheese, and prosciutto. The gouda was perfectly smokey, do not pass that one up! The gruyere was perfectly hard and crumbly, how I like it, and the blue cheese...oh baby - and I don't even like blue cheese! It's like no other blue cheese you've ever had. Those poor quality, stinky, cheap blue cheeses you find in salad dressing or as crumbles at the grocery store give this blue cheese a bad name! It's served with an apricot jam that just pairs with it perfectly, giving such a great balance of flavors. The prosciutto was sliced super thin, which I love, and had great flavor, not too salty. It went great with the gruyere.

We also had the "Daily Dip Duo" which was fresh made guacamole and roasted red pepper hummus. The guac was super tasty - actually it tasted a lot like the guac I make, so it's gotta be good, right? :P The hummus was great because you could actually taste the roasted red pepper - I hate when a place says hummus is a certain "flavor" and you don't even get a hint of said flavor.

So what else? Bruschetta baby! We got a plate where we got to choose three kinds (from a list of maybe 6 or 7). We had the traditional mozzarella, tomato, basil one, the roasted red pepper and goat cheese one, and the ricotta, pistachio, and honey one. All were absolutely delish! The bread was perfect - not too hard, not too soft. The toppings went together perfectly. The goat cheese was creamy and tart. The ricotta, pistachio, honey was a little sweet, but not too sweet. Yum!

So last but not least for our appetizer feast...chorizo-stuffed, bacon-wrapped dates. o.m.g. If you are a carnivore, such as myself - GET THESE! So many wonderful flavors! The date was sweet, but the chorizo countered that just right, the bacon was smokey and crisp and went perfectly with the tomato-y sauce it's all served with. Ooooooh baby, I want more!

...Then dessert (hey my husband ordered it!)...they don't have much as far as dessert goes, but you don't need to when you have giant, warm, skillet-cooked chocolate chip cookies served with ice cream! Since we were celebrating my birthday, I indulged...and it was grand.

So what else? The wine! They have pretty much anything you can ask for...it is a wine bar after all. What I'm especially fond of is their specials on certain days from everything from half-priced bottles, to half-priced flights, to half-priced glasses. You can definitely drink well for decent prices with specials like that. I also like that they have other special event nights, like ladies night, which offers drink specials, manis, and massages or movie nights with drink specials, free popcorn, etc. I have to get to DOC for one of those some night soon!

The service was absolutely great. We had a large party and not a single thing was out of place. Our waiter was attentive and great. The ambiance is nice and intimate. The place is kinda small, but they take reservations. All in all, I wish I lived closer so I could come here more often...I'll be going back again in no time, I'm sure!

Bruschetta Heaven!

Now, I'm normally not a fan of bruschetta as I kind of detest crusty bread but my gals, Alicia B and Erin D, had made my mouth water when telling me about the blocks of bruschetta here. Lucky for me, my birthday was coming up and Alicia was on a mission to show me a good time at DOC.

We started off with a bottle of pink champagne, and followed up with copious amounts of bruschetta. I digress:
#1- Brie and Apple
#2- White bean, balsamic reduction, and reggiano
#3- Roasted mushrooms, fresh herbs, and goat cheese
#4- Mozzarella, tomato, and basil
#5- Ricotta cheese, pistachio, and honey

Now, all the bruschetta were good but my stand out personal fave was the ricotta, pistachio, and honey... so, incredibly delicious and unlike any bruschetta I'd ever had before. It was the perfect little sharing dinner and would be great for a sexy little date since the restaurant is romantically lit and there were 2 acoustic guitar players off in the corner to really set the mood. I also liked that there were so very many vegetarian options.

There were a few things we were a little dissapointed in at DOC, however. It was hotter than hell in the restaurant... even with the doors to their outdoor patio open. Then, with the patio doors being open, the wind was blowing everything off our table, and everything on the server stand next to our table into our heads... ouch! Also, the food here is quite sloooow. So be prepared to kick back and take your time, this isn't a quick little stop.

DOC also has a number of other items including flatbreads, tapas plates, salads, charcuterie and more. We ordered some heavenly mushroom risotto fritters to top off our meal and ensure that we'd have to loosen up our belts at least one more notch and were not disappointed. I have a feeling this is one of those places where there isn't a bad thing on the menu and I would defo go back.

" Little piece of heaven on a plate & in a glass!"

I have to say that I completely enjoyed myself here- the sampler- appetizer spread was a perfect compliment to the bottle of wine we indulged in last night.

From the delicate meats to variety of cheeses, everything we ordered had a unique and pleasing flavor that really worked nicely with our wine selection. A few things we tried that were my personal favorites: Applewood Smoked Duck Breast, Brie and Apple Bruschetta, and the Roasted Mushroom Fresh Herbs & Goat Cheese Bruschetta.

I had the Wrightwood Salad with Field Greens, Sliced Chicken, Tomatoes, Craisens, Avocado, Corn, Almonds and Fresh Goat Cheese. It was absolutely mouth watering and a very nice portion size (although too much for ME to finish!)

My dinner date had the Sushi Grade Ahi Tuna Sliders With Wasabi, Soy Sauce & Seaweed Salad- he has had it before and enjoyed it once again! They looked awesome, and I'm assuming they were good (cause they seemed to disappear from his plate very quickly :)

I would certainly dine here again, luckily my date made a reservation, because this place was seriously hopping! The parking situation always kinda stinks at this mall- but not the fault of DOC, all the restaurants have to deal with that here. I did notice that it might be hard to accommodate larger groups as the dining area seemed a little on the smaller side of things, but the booth was large and comfortable- the decor was modern and warm, server was very knowledgeable and helpful- polite and personable :-) I know it was a Friday night, but I seriously could have done without the dance music overhead- that part just didn't really work for me.

I had an outstanding dinner at D.O.C. Lombard this past Friday night.

Our group of six tried a few other places in the Yorktown area, all of which had waits of an hour or greater. I didn't really think that D.O.C. would be the best option for us, as three of the people I was with were visiting from the Philippines and I thought we needed something a little more mainstream. However, D.O.C. was the only place we could get in to without a substantial wait and it ended up being wonderful!

We were seated immediately and the hostess was very friendly--she even asked if we were celebrating any sort of special occasion, probably because we were a bit of a random group.

We started off with two bottles of wine--some kind of Italian white and a pinot noir (I didn't choose them so I don't know exactly what they were). I did all of the ordering of food for the table, though, and I must say I did a pretty stellar job! :)

We started off with their bruschetta/cheese/meat plate, where you can choose four items for $12 and eight for $24. I went with the eight and chose: asparagus, prosciutto and reggiano bruschetta; roasted mushroom, fresh herb and goat cheese bruschetta; 3-4 year aged gouda; Gran Valle manchengo; Blue D'Avergne; brie; Comte gruyere; and prosciutto. Everything came on a big butcher's block with crackers, crusty bread, grapes and peach chutney. All of the selections were absolutely delicious!

We then decided to order some appetizers to share, as none of us were particularly hungry. I ordered the mushroom risotto balls, roasted chicken flatbread with basil pesto, oven dried tomatoes & fontina; Italian cheese fondue, and calamari. Everything was excellent and the portions were perfect for sharing.

At the end of the evening we were comfortably full, a few of us ordered one more glass of wine, and we relaxed and chatted. The bill was a little under $200 for the six of us. All in all, a lovely evening!

So why not five stars? Our server annoyed the crap out of me. He was unjustifiably pretentious and was visibly annoyed with one of my dining companions when he was being indecisive about wine. The word 'tool' was invented for this guy.

I will definitely be checking out the D.O.C in Lincoln Park for a similar wine/appetizer experience and think it would be a great idea for a date, too!

Lovely, lovely, lovely!! My boyfriend and I went here for a little date and we absolutely loved it!

The ambiance of the bar is excellent: dark and romantic. Lots of rich chocolate wood on the walls and the tables, minimalist decor and great looking full bar. The service was great and everyone was friendly. We did not have to wait to be seated, although the bar filled quite quickly about 15 minutes after we arrived. Tables are a bit close together, but it didn't feel awkward or cramped.

We had the European Reds wine flight and it was most excellent! We both ended up getting a glass of the Chianti and the Bordeaux because we liked them so much (I chose the Chianti and my boyfriend chose the Bordeaux). The wine was excellent and served in excellent tasting glasses - the glass was wide enough to let the wine breathe and everything was great. The wine flights are put together very well - I was very happy with our choice.

I chose the Caesar salad for dinner and my boyfriend had the Greatest Grilled Cheese - we both loved them! The Caesar salad was huge even though I chose the small portion and the grilled cheese was yummy, melty and unique with the choices of cheese (no Kraft squares for this restaurant!). The prices were very reasonable (the salad was only $6!) and the food was delicious. All in all, a really great experience. I'd like to try the location downtown sometime.

I am dedicating this review to the illustrious Carol K...

For without Carol, I would never have known that a non-chain restaurant existed in Yorktown Mall. I mean, by the very definition of "mall" one would think "food court" or at the very best "California Pizza Kitchen."

So, imagine my delight when I yelp searched "Lombard" and came up with a wine bar. Not just any wine bar, but one with a location in the...gasp...city. (though, I've not been to it, sadly)

My lovely friend (Melissa D http://www.yelp.com/user…) and I had about an hour to kill between a wedding and reception. Starved and lost...we hopped over to DOC. Good choice, good choice...

Of course, I'm sure our waiter was a bit peeved that we weren't ordering up flights of wine, but I was in dire need of Diet Coke, and he just had to suck it up and deal with it. We split the Italian cheese fondue, which was quite good and served with crusty bread, granny smith apple slices and salami...very filling.

Then, we waited. And waited, and waited and waited. And then FINALLY after about 30 minutes...our salads came out. This was my only complaint. Don't mess me with me when I am hungry, I get cranky. Especially when its just LETTUCE. Lettuce does not need to cook, so bring it on buddy!

Anyway, I digress. My salad (The Wrightwood) was superb. Once I finally got it.

Great ambience, and its in the burbs so there is parking and all that jazz....not that you should go to a wine bar and drive home, but I'm just sayin'....

Viva Vino, kudos Carol :)

The city keeps coming to the Burbs and for that I am eternally grateful. DOC is just one more in a long line of the restaurants that are making inroads in the burbs and in a suburban shopping mall of all places!

The Shops on Butterfield (sounds nice, eh? It's really just a back lot of Yorktown Mall that they have turned into a series of shops and restaurants!) is breathing much needed new life into this mall.

DOC wine bar is a welcome addition. Whether it's for lunch or dinner- you can be assured of excellent food paired with any one of a variety of wines.

For lunch- their pannini sandwiches are great- try the chicken pesto with tomato or the three cheese grilled cheese. They also have a wonderful crabcake as an appetizer with big chunks of crab and served with a small salad of tomatoes, corn, pepper and avocados. Oh so good! The friend that I was with had the gnocchi which was rich but also very good. You should try to leave room for one of their desserts. Our server suggested the Lincoln Park chocolate chip cookie with ice cream and vanilla rum sauce and, honestly, I thought my friend was going to lick the pan it came in- he was that enamored with it.

If you go at night- I like to put together my own cheese and meat appetizer plate to enjoy with one of their many bottles of wine. Try the creamy Brie, the Percorino Tartufo, the prosciutto, the pate, or the Parmesan chunks and enjoy it with a Buglioni Amarone - a little pricey but oh so good!

The ambiance is nice- crisp without being sparse with lots of natural light (big windows to stare out of) and gleaming wooden floors. The bar spans the length of the dining room and there are booths (my favorite place to sit) by the bar or small gatherings of tables and chairs on the side dining room.

While it may not have the neighborhood feel of its sister restaurant in Lincoln Park- DOC wine bar adds a little urban flair to this suburban mall!
