So Harold and Kumar love this place right? Seen the movie, they moved heaven and Earth to get here. Â I live in California and only see these burgers in the freezer section in the grocery store and never buy them because I don't think it will do the chain justice. Â But while I'm in Chicago, I guess I better try it and see what was so great about it right? Right.
Well the place was quiet on a Saturday around noon. Â There were two boys eating together. Â I got the original Slider combo with crinkly fries and a drink of my choice. Â Fine, that's cool. Â I got 4 sliders with cheese, a patty and some onion. Â Was it good? Decent. Â I didn't think it was the best thing in the world, but it wasn't horrible either. Â Maybe the hype from the movie set my expectations so high. Â It was decent, but I think there are better burgers out there. Â But something to check off my list as having completed.
No visit back to Chi-town is complete for me without one or my first stop at White Castle. Â Now, I'm probably grossing out my more high brow Cali friends, but this is pure nostalgia for me. Â I remember White Castle as a kid thinking how cool those square burgers were. Â Anyway, I ordered a half dozen sliders and onion rings. Â Onion rings were great and ah, yes, the sliders were greasy but definitely worth any gastronimical discomfort later. Â I was already full with four but I figured when will I be back for more?
Review Source:Only ate the frozen burgers since they are not out in LA....so had to have it once in Chicago...
I must say...this place rocks! Â What I was amazed about was the different varieties...chicken, fish, mushroom and garlic...haha...fat man's fantasy! Â They also had grape soda! (not sure if it was in all white castle's or maybe it was the demographic area i was in)
Had only a few the first time but after a wedding i went to a few days later...6 of us had 60 burgers! We ordered two CRAVE CASES! Â drunk off our asses and these burgers tasted damn good! Â Now they just need some tapatio or sricha to add to the flavor!
All of them were good except the plain old hamburger one. Â
Love it here! Â Definitely late night drunk food!
Come on!!! Â What is the hype? Â They are miniature McD's cheeseburgers for 79 cents - airy bun, flavorless patty. Â The only thing that imparts flavor is the special A-1 sauce if you get the A-1 burger, but really now. Â In N Out RULES - actually you know what, McD's rules over White Castle. Â If its 3:30am, I'm drunk and it STILL doesn't taste good, there is a serious problem because everything tastes good at that hour. Â Take that!!!
Review Source:This is the White Castle location that I go to most often....at least once every 2-3 months. Â My favorite are the Jalapeno Cheeseburgers. Â (Singles - I tried doubles once but they didn't melt the same!) Â Drive thru service is pretty good - never had a problem, especially at 2 or 3 in the morning! Â Love it!
Review Source:This is one of the only places open at 4am when you are prowling the streets for a snack. The food is cheap and will quell your hunger. They have a breakfast menu for 5-10:30am, but I've never tried it. White Castle in my book is a late-night food stop (11-5am) since they are open 24 hours.
The staff were quick and very friendly when I visited. However, the food is a little too greasy to make a habit out of.
I always try to order the new items on their menu. Â This time around it was the garlic cheese slider. Â Very garlicky. Â I still think the double cheeseburger is the best selection because the meat/bun combo is balanced. Â I personally feel there is not enough meat on the normal sliders and the bun imbalance adds to the bloat after 2 or 3. Â
I do try to live on the wild side. Â This means I order these two items all the time. Â The two deadliest items are the chicken rings and the side of cheese sauce. Â The chicken rings are novelties that you should try. Â Substandard chicken, lightly breaded, shaped as a Cheerio on steroids. Â Mediocre on its own, but try it in a sandwich (2 or 3 chicken rings in a bun) or with the side of cheese sauce.
The cheese sauce is neon yellow as people describe. Â It does have the texture of Elmer's glue, but wow, it does dress up a sack of fries or chicken rings. Â
Oh yeah, the service was a bit slow, but they are super nice.
Sad to say, I consumed this order from this location late at night... with  a Diet Coke.
