We had a blast at Zeller Zone for a friend's birthday. If you are new to karaoke, you might feel shy driving so perilously close to signs with no english words on them. Don't. You need to expand your mind, and you are so close to nirvana. The thrill of mindlessly searching a 6 inch thick binder of songs, while your friends belt out disgusting versions of Blaze of Glory awaits. Do NOT pass up the soju, but make sure to tell the bartender to stop pouring them at some point.

Added bonus - from this location, you are within walking distance of:

1] Murky river bottoms fit to throw any number of corpses from your drug deal gone wrong
2] The Institute for Creation Research
    3] The Lodge
    4] LB Houston. Horsies!

So my friends and I wanted to go to Family Karaoke but they were completely packed...like you got to park at the Korean restaurant next door packed. One of my friend's remembered that there was another place down Royal. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to a virtually empty parking lot. We were immediately given a room to comfortably accommodate our party of 8. We ordered some drinks and starting queuing up some songs. We're getting our drink on and singing our songs. All was good until the end of the night. We closed out and the damage was $120. We tried to pay with multiple credit cards and were given an emphatic no by the cashier. After much discussion, I convinced her to let us use 2 cards. We signed our receipts and started to head out. Then the cashier started to make a big fuss. We went back to her b/c we didn't quite understand what she was was saying. Her English wasn't great and none of us spoke Korean. She kept saying there was a problem. She said that we put a line through the tip section and that we needed to give a tip. My friends and I tip when it's appropriate but not at karaoke...especially when no one came in to provide any service. What kind of person has the audacity to demand a tip a like that? One of my friends got pretty annoyed and threw a $20 down and we left. And now we understood why one karaoke place would be completely packed and one completely empty when they were a less than 5 min apart. I'm' definitely not coming back here again. I'll just have to remember to reserve a room at Family next time.

Zeller Zone is laughably bad. It is located in the charming Koreatown area off of Royal Ln but somehow manages to look shadier than every other establishment there. It is even worse once you get inside, with tiny rooms that were littered with filth. The sound is awful and seemed to be shaking the walls apart. You had to strain to hear the music over the sound of the vibrations the speakers were causing.

After about 30 minutes we had enough and went over to Family Karaoke.

this place looks super shady from the outside and inside. it's right next to a store called "good food" or something weird like that. no signs are really visible from the exterior, and when you walk in, it's totally dark. it looks like some shady business is going down, but who knows. i'm not korean, so i'm not privy to anything.

there are no english signs outside that tells you this place is a karaoke bar. nor is there an english sign outside or inside that tells you this place is called zeller zone. everything is in korean!! this place is in a shopping center near the train tracks and about 2 lights down from komart, if that helps.

luckily, my korean friends came with me the first time i was here. there's no english anywhere! like most korean karaoke bars, this place has private rooms where you and your friends can sing to your heart's delight. no public humiliation involved unless it's in front of your friends. you're not required to buy drinks, which are on the expensive side, but the room costs $20/hour and they will write down an earlier time if you're not careful! we got there at 9:45pm tonight and when we went to check out at 11:45pm, the dude who worked there tried to say we got there at 8:45pm. yeah, right!! just be sure you make sure they write down the right time you check in. greedy ass koreans, man!

the song selection has a lot to be desired, but it's got some fairly recent stuff by a lot of mainstream artists and also some nice oldies from the 80s and 90s, too. most of the songs are korean songs, but the back of the song selection binder has a good variety of american songs.

they are open til 2am and give you some bottled water when you pay to help soothe your vocal cords, i assume. i love to karaoke, so i'll be back. but make sure you pay cash here, even though they accept credit cards. per kat m.'s review,i just don't trust places like this with my credit card number. they can screw you over and you have no recourse with them.

The little details to service is the reason why I keep going back to this karaoke bar time and time again.

Susan, the owner, is the sweetest lady you'll ever meet. She's friendly, attentive, and on the ball. Without her, this would just be any other karaoke bar in terms of price and song selection. But she makes sure there's always lots of tambourines in the room so you can have a rocking good time. The bathrooms are clean. The rooms are large with COMFY couches. The parking lot is spacious, well lit, and has security cameras all around for safety. And oh yea, she gives everyone bottled water when you leave and tells you to please drive safe. She's like my karaoke mother!

Zeller Zone is little bit further down Royal than most other places and the sign won't say Zeller anywhere on there. Look for neon characters instead! Refer to the pictures on Yelp.

Please come here and say hi to Susan. I PROMISE she'll take of you! :D

A little over a year ago, a group of friends and I went here for my birthday.  It was memorable.  I got a Chocopie with a candle (hehe) and some fancy flaming shot.  One of the staff members chose my first song for the evening and sang with me.  We stayed there past 2 because they came to take our drinks away.

I recently went back and they continue to do little things that help them get the third star.  The lady at the bar gave those who had been drinking water.

My only complaint is that their sound system seems to be a bit outdated and their songs are not up to date.  It's a good alternative when other karaoke bars are packed.  Oh, I think they only have one room size.

Awesome place! New Songs, New Business, Clean Restrooms. Chicken was gooood and soju was soju!

Came here with a group of 7 and we had a great time! Not cheap, Not pricey.

Service was friendly and on the ball.

    I will be back.

After reviewing her credit card statements, one of my friends out that night discovered that they had charged several people onto her credit card, one of them being a friend in our party, who signed his name to her card (they rang up her card several times with different amounts). Thinking they just made a mistake, she called and they refused to refund her or acknowledge their mistake, just saying "You treated your friend." She ended up having to have her bank fight them for the money back. I wouldn't go back.

To answer the fellow Yelper question:

YES - all the songs have a real background vocals. No keyboard music. This is a real deal karaoke!

As far as food. Yes they do serve food but it's a bit pricey. I had some fresh snail... spicy and yummy :) They always serve a small snack platter when you order drinks.

I really, really, really love Zeller Zone. Every time I go there, we end up spending at least 4 hours, it's just so much fun that you don't want to stop.

The rooms are great, the staff is super friendly and cool, and it's just a fantastic place to get super drunk and act stupid and then sober yourself back up while singing.

The karaoke is $20/hr, and I've never had them try to screw me or anything (I've heard that happens at these hourly places sometimes).

For a while there, I was disenchanted with their song selection because I thought they didn't have any of the newest K-pop songs. But I was wrong! They're all hiding in a special section in the back of the book for new stuff. There's newer American stuff back there, too - so that's a tip for ya. :)

Edited to add: It sure has been a while since I wrote this review! I still give it 5 stars but wanted to add that it doesn't have as good of sound systems as some of the other places in town. The friendly staff makes up for that, though.

If I were to hear that ZZ upgraded their sound systems and Ziller subscriptions etc, I would make it my #1 noraebang of choice.

I had heard that there were fun karaoke places in K-town that opened until 5am. Since I've been karaoke-ing since the womb, i knew that I wanted to visit Zeller Zone.

I came here with three other friends on a Saturday night around 10pm. There were a few cars and rooms occupied, but it wasn't bumpin' yet. The room we got was awesome - huge with 3 leather couches. The tamborine definitely got me excited!!

The machine is kind of hard to navigate at first because it's in Korean. Check out the song books first to identify songs you want (and they have EVERYTHING - English, korean, j-pop, etc) and get going! There are two microphones so duets are totally allowed. Tip: it is really hard to karaoke rap. Do not attempt unless you are READY.

The only downfall is that the drinks were kind of expensive. I know they had a bucket of beers, sake, and wine, but i'm not sure they had a full bar. However, the guy who was working was very personable and you could've gone up to the bar to inquire. The snacks are also a little pricey, but tasty.

This is a great place if you have a small - medium sized group and you want to karaoke your booty off. The service is good, the space is comfy and clean, and the variety of songs are unparalleled.

MEGA TIP: I first tried to come here with a group of co-workers after work (around 7pm), and it wasn't open! There are no hours posted, but the place doesn't really open until around 8 or 9pm, and that is not a hard and fast rule. I believe this is the case with most of the karaoke places in the area.

    oops forgot to yelp this.

awesome place to be, especially after meeting fellow yelpers!  food then singing!!!!  only a handful of us came, but that was more than enough.

im really surprised how nice the rooms were spacious and limited eau de cigarette!  bathrooms were SUPER nice and clean, hells yes!

while getting our vocals on...for some odd reason...there was a great smell of FRIED CHICKEN!  i looked at JOE and he was like WTH? haha funny stuff!

great selection of english songs, but limited japanese and chinese stuff!  anyways, i give mad props to Francesca and Rudy, my karaoke heroes!  jeremy - yep you can crank dat OOOOOO.......

bill wasn't too bad, what, 60 for a solid 2+ hrs?  good thing we came around 9 b/c when we opened the door to exit, woosh it was busy.

too bad the rating system is RIGGED!  we worked hard and sang well and got a freakin 30??????   WHAT?!

The review I'm writing doesn't reflect the service or the establishment. I think I only gave Zeller Zone three stars because of the experience there. The music was far too loud, and we had a lot of fun - but once our party of about twenty or so got there, it was just too much.

I think if the music were a little quieter, and if we'd had a smaller group, I would've had a better time. Maybe next time - I'll DEFINITELY recommend this place as a great Korean Karaoke joint.

    It's new, so it's clean.
They actually have bathroom stalls and not just 1 large bathroom.
    The rooms are freaking huge.
The owner is really cool and hooked me up with some free bek se ju for my saeng il :)
pretty good song selection...i just need to find out if they have any chinese music, that would make me love it!

If you and your friends are into Karaoke and not Scaraoke then check it! It's one of the newest Korean karaoke bars in town so all of their karaoke machines are updated with some of the newest songs and old school songs as well and their song books aren't all sticky from spilled beer. The rooms have wood floors and comfy leather couches. As with Korean karaoke you and your friends get your own room for your group so don't be shy. Let go and sing it up in your drunken craze(or if you can do it, sober?).  Here, only your friends can laugh at you or commend you on your singing.

They have a nice little bar area with a small selection that serves your basic light beers and Korean Soju.
    <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FSoju&s=f741b8a96a84c8e60320c726bbdd4e1009031ee7ad0df53c7730a9a800921d54" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://en.wikipedia.org/…</a>
They also serve up some top shelf liquors and they don't have any wells. They also stay open really late. I think the longest I've stayed there is till about 4:30 AM getting my party on! However they do stop providing alcohol at 2 AM per Texas law.

Their parking lot at night is really bright and security cameras if you're wondering about security.
