Met my friend for happy hour yesterday. Â We were seated outside where apparently the restaurant allows dogs. Â The tables in the outdoor seating area are relatively close together. Â Two women arrived with their small dogs and left them to roam on their leashes, into my purse and near our table. Â I've trained my dog to stay away from my dinner table. Â Who thought it was a great idea to allow this in a restaurant??
Review Source:Very impressed with this place, we went in thinking it would be more bar than grill and happily mistaken. Â They are on Open Table so you can make reservations easily. Â We sat outside near the sidewalk on a Saturday morning, it was casual enough that we felt okay going after hitting the gym. Â Menu is a little small for Brunch but what they do have is very good. Â They serve Tully's coffee, though the young waitress obviously isn't a coffee drinker; she was pretty slow to refill and didn't understand "what type of coffee is this"....her response was "its black and came from the pot" Â After another minute she answered "Tully's". Â Other than that no issues at all; also very affordable.
Review Source:I hosted a business dinner with 5 associates at the 520 last night, my first time to this establishment. Â The service was beyond good, it was prescient. Cassie and Tiffany took care of our every need and were very friendly and professional. Â The food was pretty good - 4 star, service gets 6, and ambiance gets a 5. Oh yeah, parking is a bit of an issue.
Review Source:Went to 520 Bar and Grill on a Friday afternoon about 3:30 with a friend. Â We asked to be seated outside. Â Once seated, we looked at menu and decided on drinks and that we were going to share a plate off their happy hour menu. Â There is small print that notes that happy hour is only available inside and at tables. Â We were seated at a table (outside), so now I was confused. Â When the waitress showed up to take our order, we asked about it, and were told that there was no happy hour menu available outside. Â WHAT? Â They know that you're not going to move inside at that point, so you end up paying extra for the EXACT same food. Â Annoying for sure. Â Next time I'm looking for a happy hour spot, it won't be 520 Bar & Grill.
Review Source:Yummy yummy yummy!! Gotta stop here for happy hour, especially on a warm summer night! Â
We shared the hummus plate and the steak salad. Â The hummus plate was so delicious! Â Super tasty and fresh! Â The steak salad was also tasty and very tasteful. Â We loved our order, and we sat outside which was a plus for people watching!!
All in all we loved this place and would definitely come back!!!
I hope this was an isolated incident, but the service for lunch today was TERRIBLE.
I have been to 520 several times, and the food is always pretty good. The service, however, has never been good.
When we walked in today at 11:50 for lunch, the hostess let us know that we couldn't sit outside because "the server who was supposed to be opening another section wasn't there yet, but was coming on at 12". Ok fine. We sit at the bar and wait.
12:00 rolls around, still nothing.
12:15, she finally, after being bombarded by 20+ people coming in for the lunch rush, seats us and another server helps us in a section that obviously wasn't hers.
The server was 20 minutes late to his lunch shift. Really good management of the staff, obviously.
Also, lets talk about their "dress code" for their wait staff for a minute. I don't know when it became appropriate to wear shorts that are so short, your shirt doesn't even cover them, and a backless shirt with your black bra hanging out of it?
For a quaint little bar and grill on Main St. in Bellevue, this place needs to take a hard look at how they are managing things.
Food- good
Service- really not good
location- good
Patio- good
I moved into this quaint neighborhood about 9 months ago. I was happy to see there was an upscale neighborhood pub across the street.
Was I ever wrong!!. It's not a nice pub. I think it used to be at one point. The decor and appearance and menu are spot on. But there are things that are WAY off.
Here's a thing: the waitresses there literally dress like prostitutes. Even during brunch. I am not a super conservative person, at all - but  their (lack of) attire is simply gross. It is disgusting whenever they come near. Basically - there is not enough space/coverage between their vaginas and my food. Also - it is not appropriate at a place in a supposedly nice small community, especially during the day, and when there are families with children and nice senior couples out for a nice casual dinner. I don't know if they are required to dress that way (in which case, the owners are in the wrong) or if the management just likes to hire people like that. Either way, it's a bad idea.
Even my brother ( straight, early 30s, not one to object to "attractive" waitstaff) remarked on it when he had to wait for me outside my building one day. He said " wow, Picky, I can't believe what I saw today, at like 1:00 pm in the afternoon. There were two men sitting at a patio table at the restaurant across the street, and then a hooker came up to them! I thought you lived in a nice neighborhood?"
I was like, oh yeah, that was a waitress. they dress like that there.
His response: "oh... Gross"
It's just so uncalled for. This is not Belltown, this is not downtown Kirkland, this is not the hooker stroll on Aurora. Seriously, Joseph and Randi, get it together.
I love going to 520 for a small dinner or for Happy Hour, although it is definitely a small group affair as the space is tiny, inside and out. The inside is nice but the real draw for me is the outdoor patio. The patio is perfect for two, as long as you are not discussing anything private! They might as well push all of the tables together and add more chairs, at least you will not have the mistaken impression that your conversation is private!
The Happy Hour selection is not that big, but I do like the beef tacos. The nachos are huge, but also $18 with ground beef. The hummus plate, the crab cakes and the prawns are delicious. It has been awhile since I have had their burger, but I remember it being good.
When I received an email from Open Table inviting me to make a Mother's Day Brunch at 520 Bar and Grill, i checked out 520's web site. I liked what I saw on their brunch menu, most meals were $12 and looked good! No mention of a special prix-fixe menu, so I was pretty excited and made the reservation.
When we showed up to 520 I was incredibly disappointed to find that not only did they not have their regular menu available, or a prix-fixe menu available, but a BUFFET an all you can eat BUFFET for $22. What are you going to do? What I should have done was leave, but we were hungry. At least all of the food was immediately ready.
The food is what one would expect from food sitting in chaffing dishes, it was lukewarm and had been sitting for some time. The french toast was quite cold, it was not good at all and we were looking forward to the french toast advertised on 520's menu, that actually sounded good. The bacon was greasy as it was piled up in the chaffing dish and we were unlucky enough to reach the bottom of the dish. The potatoes were pretty good, I am guessing it is what they serve on their regular menu. The eggs were okay, but I wish they were fresh.
My greatest disappointment is that 520 Bar and Grill has a web site, an easy way for them to communicate special events with their customers. Why have a web site if you are not going to update it? It gives your customers the idea that if you are having something special, you would use your web site to advertise this.
Service was okay. Will return again for small plates and drinks.
I used to really enjoy the food here, but the last few times have been inconsistent. Â The BBQ Chicken Salad is one of my favorites. Â I always used to get the small which was the perfect size for dinner. Â I was just there last week and apparently they have taken that option away, so you can only get the large. Â That is way too much for me, so I shared it with a friend. Â Our waitress was very rude to us the whole time we were there. Â I had never seen her before, and I know that some of the waitresses there are very nice, so that isn't always the case. Â I also shared the hummus plate appetizer with a friend. Â I had ordered it in the past and thought it used to come with olives. Â I asked out waitress if it used to come with olives, she just looked at me and said, "No." Â Turned and walked away. Â She was a lot of fun. Â
Also, this place is really loud. Â The music is turned up fairly loud and then everyone tries to talk over it. Â Not on the top of my list if you want to have conversations.
Service? What Service? I emailed them to plan an event they were responsive, yes, but I was passed between multiple people who gave me crossed messages. Â Then when I met with them the woman was very cold. But hey, it was cute and I was in the neighborhood so I gave it another shot as a patron for dinner. We walked in and the host was nice, wrote our name and number down over the EXTREMELY loud thumping music and then...she never called.
Two for two, bad service. Â Who knows if the food is good, I can't even get a chair.
I've been here several times for lunch and the food is consistently delicious. Â The patio is lovely and we do try to take advantage of it when we can. Â The service has always been friendly. Â We visited for drinks for the first time this weekend and was so impressed with the quality of drink and the service provided by the bartender (Nima). Â He had several customers he was attending to and made every one of them feel like he was there for just them. Â
The appetizers lining the bar all looked delicious and everyone at the bar seemed eager to describe how amazing they tasted. Â
We will definitely return for a full dinner. Â One of the most comfortable bars we have been to.
The one thing I do like about 520 Bar & Grill is the setting/atmosphere. Â It is loud sometimes, but it is nicely decorated and clean - and is convenient for me as I live nearby. Â While the service isn't speedy, I've never experienced bad service. Â Everyone seems very friendly. Â
Unfortunately, I wish the food was better as there are so few places in Bellevue with good food. Â I had such high hopes when 520 opened that it could be a new "go to" place for me (and I wouldn't have to drive to Seattle so often!). Â I've ordered a number of things on the menu and all of them are just "meh" - nothing special that I couldn't make myself at home (probably even better). Â The steak used in the steak salad was tough and full of grissel. Â They like to put a lot of sauce on most dishes. Â Nothing really tastes fresh (chicken breasts with rib meat? Â is it all pulled out of the freezer?).
My impression is that the chef and wine sommelier might be extremely inexperienced. Â They have a decent wine selection; unfortunately, it's all very average at best. Â Then again, maybe it's part of the business model: Â buy $11 bottles of wine and sell for $11/glass. Â I'm full aware of wine mark-ups in the restaurant industry, but when all of them are in the same average class, it's very disappointing. Â I'm okay paying more for a glass of wine if it's a decent glass of wine. Â
I will continue to meet friends for drinks b/c it's convenient and my friends seem to like the nice atmosphere, but usually try to make sure I eat beforehand (and after my last experience where I had to return 2 glasses of wine because they were so bad, I think I might start bringing my own bottles of wine).
520: Â please kick your food and wine up a notch. Â You obviously have a great following (b/c it's always crowded), so maybe you aren't incentivized much to do so, but I would love to have a neighborhood place the Eastside could actually brag about!
Very crowded, very loud, and VERY GOOD! So many choices to love and I will definitely be back for more. And good drinks too.
After much deliberation I decided on BBQ chicken wrap and crab cakes. Both excellent. I love crab cakes that are mostly crab and fall apart and these are them. And so many favors in the wrap.
Make an effort to try this place.
A-OK.
once more, pretty servers that talk talk talk talk more than serve serve serve!
-Plus points for:
--Outside patio seating...quaint, cute, and pleasant.
--they had a jazz band(?) quartet playing outside... how romantic?! nice touch.
--the interior is a dark woody look...very warm and inviting.
--Tried their bloody mary. yeah, no. she lied by saying it's REALLY good. liar. it was so salty, i momentarily lost feeling in my legs. i think my body went into shock.
-one of the waitresses felt bad and tried solving it by giving me more tomato juice... i'll give u a plus point for trying. but it didn't remedy the high-blood pressure spike ~_~
--the hostess... u are uncomfortable, it's like she had a little demon inside her and costumed herself with a snootyness... girl, u gotta drop your attitudey glares... or pick your wedgie :-X
--food was okay.
--Service ... meh. they chat primarily to themselves and the bartenders majority of time...they'll go around the customers' tables, and chat with themselves ... once in awhile, you can flag them down. maybe because it was slow that service is a bit laggy. who knows. not the best service, not the worse either. just ::shrug:: whatever  @.@
Out of the dime-a--dozen HH places in bellevue, i wouldn't go outta my way to hit this spot up....
eeeeek. Beverly Hills much?? Or trying to be at least. (and by that i mean, plastic surgery and cougars everywhere) Also a lot of cute young waitresses but this is obviously their first experience in waiting. Service was sllllllllooooooowwwwwwww. I painfully waited for a friend to show up, sitting outside sipping on my watered down Marg that I waited too long for. Once my friend showed up we had two servers pass us by without taking an order from her, so therefore we got our bill and left pronto. They have a great patio set up & a nice menu selection, but it looked to be way over priced for the experience we were bound to end up having. Can't say I'd recommend this place :-/
Review Source:The 520 Bar and Grill is located on Main Street in Downtown Bellevue. The location is easy to find and parking is available on side streets within a very close walk. I visited with a large group on a Friday evening during happy hour and had great service. Our server, Jennifer, was personable, friendly, high energy and outgoing. She was clearly very interested in making sure her guests were taken care of and was having a good time at work. Being in retail management, I know how hard it is to find employees who truly show through their behaviors that they love their job, so great job to 520 for having her on staff.
The star deduction is due to one thing and one thing only. The happy hour naked nachos. Really now for $6 dollars you get a plate of mixed color chips with melted cheese on top and a mini bowl of salsa. This is very much overpriced, even for a happy hour menu. When you compare it to the other amazing happy hour options, I dont see how they would ever come up with the same price. This chips and salsa platter should cost no more then $4, which would still leave a great margin for the business. Although, even at $4, the quality would still simply not be there.
The rest of the food quality and selection was top of the line. The pork sliders were fantastic. They were full of flavor, had a fresh bun and a generous serving portion of meat inside the slider. The reviews from others who ordered other appetizers and tacos at the table also raved about how good the food was, with many ordering second rounds.
The prices are not the lowest happy hour in town; however, the environment and ambiance of the outdoor patio is unique and a well appreciated change from other happy hours in Bellevue. I highly suggest you try out 520 Bar and Grill. If you are staying at the Hyatt or Westin Downtown, it is a short to moderate walk from behind Bellevue Dowtown Park (which is directly next to Bellevue Square Mall).
It's Saturday evening at 8pm on one of the hottest days and the patio is HAPPENING. Despite the obvious busyness, the servers were very accommodating with our special requests (olives on the side, Stella shandy, appetizers from the happy hour menu) and super speedy with food.
For starters, the portions were huge and well priced. We had nachos to start and by the time everyone wolfed down the nachos we were almost too full to eat. For entrees we had king salmon sandwich, lamb burgers, fish and chips and white fish almondine. Most impressive thing about their service was that they had 3 girls serve all of our entrees at once and not one of the dishes were cold or missed!
We ended up staying until the late Happy Hour and had great HH drink fueled conversations. Definitely recommend this for anyone in Bellevue!
Dear 520 Bar & Grill,
You've always been awesome in my book but you just became a little bit more awesome. I loved you when I needed a great spot to catch up with my girls on warm summer night gossiping for hours while we all enjoyed your patio. I loved you for all the tasty Sunday morning brunches I've had over the years - nice scrambles by the way. I've loved you for quick meet ups with potential bosses over drinks who tried to sway me into their companies and succeeded. And I've also loved you for being able to get a same day reservation for our larger parties on <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fopentable.com&s=897c359bd752b4f5407d5ea86453c82be2d1913c8d0b51b18d81fc58f52a6497" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://opentable.com</a> as there's nothing quite as good as that!
But you've given me the best reason of all, to really love you that much more! That reason is... you not only let me bring my adorable 5-month old puppy with me to dine at your establishment, BUT YOU LET HIM SIT AT MY TABLE WITH ME OUTSIDE! This is huge! I will drive the 17 miles for this alone!
Hats off to you for understanding the importance of having your pooch sit at your side while enjoying your meal rather than worrying about him getting kidnapped because I had to leave him tied up outside the restaurant. My dog happens to be extremely handsome and good looking (his words, not mine) and getting to have him next to me gives me peace of mind when dining... yet so many places don't understand this at all!
You do and that's all that matters. So, I'll see you this weekend?
Love,
Tanya & Yogi Bear
I wanted to say what a great experience we had at 520 Bar and Grill. Â Our new moms group decided to have a night out while the husbands watched the kiddos. Â Because it was sunny we wanted to eat outside and thoroughly enjoyed the patio seating at 520. Â
There were two lovely blond women (I didn't get their names!) - one had three boys and one had three girls and when they found out we were new moms, they bought us a round of shots! :) Â Both the food and service were fantastic and it really counts when you don't get out nearly as much as you used to (pre-kids!) so we would definitely go again.
We had a mix of entrees and appetizers and everyone had a cocktail and were all thoroughly satisfied with the quality and prices. Â I would definitely recommend 520 Bar and Grill, especially on a sunny day!
Came here for brunch on a nice sunny morning (I know!) so we opted to sit out on the patio. The patio was really nice and inviting, although the tables are all REALLY close together, like need to shift and move around to let people access their table.
The food was great! Â Delicious actually, the macadamia syrup was awesome, nice hearty portions for the price. Â
Be aware that they don't have mimosas on their menu, but will make them of course! Â Well they probably aren't on the menu because they charge you $10 for EACH! Â OJ and a splash of champagne. Â $10. Yeah. Â We get unlimited mimosas for $10 most places in Nor Cal, I mean even our favorite place in San Francisco only charges $12 for endless mimosas. So needless to say, I fell over when I was charged $20 for two drinks with zero buzz.
I hit up this spot quite a bit for lunch and I absolutely love it! I the Cajun spice chicken sandwich is out of this world... AND if it was on Mars... I would be like Arnold Schwarzenegger and pull a Total Recall to get it! Yes it's that good!
The side salad with cucumbers hit the spot, but but the fries are a devilishly good choice when you want the extra calories.
Bartenders know how to make some very good drink and they know their margaritas! HECK Sarah knocks email out of the park.... The margaritas not the baseball... Stay with me here..
They patio is a great choice on sunny days and wait staff is always good and on top of things.. If your inside and don't see a great on tv... Just ask and they are always helpful to make sure it's available.
SO In the end.... Stay away from this place.. I want my seat right away and I don't want to wait!
I had higher hopes for brunch here after reading the glowing reviews for the breakfast items. Â We had a nice table right by the window and what people were eating looked promising.
However, flavor of my veggie scramble was bland/luke warm and the cheese wasn't even melted. Â They charge extra to sub potatoes for a small bowl of fruit.
What was even more of a joke was the french toast that was highly recommended by some reviewers. Â The portion size was the smallest french toast I have EVER seen. (see photo) You literally can't see the french toast hiding under the two strips of bacon. Â
I would also recommended serving some sort of toast option with the brunch for what we're paying.
Service was rushed, they were understaffed with servers but seemed to focus on getting drinks for the customers at the bar. Â
I'm pretty sure their specialty here is their burger and happy hour but I wouldn't expect much of a difference quality wise.
Went here for lunch today. Service was good, not speedy, but good. A PB&J for my little one, my daughter and I both had the fish n chips and my husband had the albacore sandwich.
Fries were under cooked, not  crispy AT ALL, no salt and therefore NO flavor. The albacore sandwich was bland and again no flavor. The fish n chips was very mediocre. Again, no flavor. Get the picture? A little Salt  goes a long way.
I have been here a couple times for happy hour and it was great.
When you can't stand another night at Joey's or Earl's, 520 to the rescue. Yelpers have it right on this one- dinner is good, but Happy Hour is better.
Bellevue needs this little main street gem.
7 months out of the year, patio is not an option (Seattle rain...), so the good news is that the interior is warm and cozy with all the right booths and spaces.
Just loud enough to be lively, but not so crazy that you can't just chill after a 10hr. work day.
Parking is slightly annoying but running into friends or bumping into the owner, Joseph Brazen makes up for it. =)
Its very old school inside. Â Dark, lots of wood and brass rails. Â Some stools to sit at some counters and several small tables for two. Â Once I got to look around, the place is really, really small. Â It felt sort of congested. Â
I think the real draw is the patio outside. Â I bet that is fun in the summer. Â I wonder how noisy it gets from normal street noise. Â
My friends like this place. Â Since I was only here during HH Â for one glass, my review isn't worth much. Â I will have to try again when the weather is nicer.
Tucked in old main 520 Bar & grill is a little restaurant with an amazing patio, when you're here it feels like home. The patio is fenced off with tall plants and is very comfortable. The food is also decent both for snacking on or dinning.
It's a great place for a casual meeting or a get together with a bunch of friends. The waitress was very attentive to our table and our drinks were never empty.
Be wary that outdoor seating can be hard to get if the weather is nice!
Best outdoor patio in Bellevue!
Bistro sets are a bit wobbly on the bricks and diners are very close to neighboring couples but nonetheless you are seatted in what feels like a romantic, private arborvitae-enclosed open air room. Candles flicker at tables and the space is lined and draped with strings of outdoor lights.
The drinks are good and the food okay. What fails at this place is the service. They seated us without ever setting the table. We ordered but got only the plates and no flatware. Really? How can you miss that one? I had to ask twice for a fork and again for a napkin. Our drinks were never refilled. The waitress never came by to check in on us.
There's just nothing special here. I've done it and I'm unimpressed. Wish I could have liked it more because I'm local, but on to bigger and better things...
I have only been here a couple times for the happy hour (starts at  2 which is pretty cool). The first time I was with my buddy and we had lots of fun. We met the bartender "Leilani" or something and she was really helpful and cute. She also brought over the owner, "Randy " I think she was.
I came back alone and it was good but it is quite expensive. I ordered off the happy hour menu and for what I got I thought it was pretty high. I will go back sometime but definately for happy hour.
It's a really cute and cozy place and would be a great  to go for a date. The regulars seem nice and it would probably be fun to hang out and have a beer at the bar.
I came here for an after-work dinner with my mom, and was truly WOWed by the Cobb salad. Â Yes, I know, how hard can it be to make a Cobb salad, right? Â You'd be surprised! Â
I've eaten my fair share of mediocre Cobb salads at various Seattle area restaurants, and this one stands alone! Â Fresh lettuce and hard-boiled egg, plenty of avocado, firm (not mushy) tomatoes, and extra-crispy bacon, topped off with a mildly spicy gorgonzola dressing that was DIVINE! Â
I'm very particular about the way I dress my salads, and was even hesitant to substitute the somewhat unorthodox gorgonzola dressing to my preferred usual bleu cheese (which typically compliments a Cobb)...but I'm glad I took that chance. Â It was flavorful, without being too thick or rich. Â My next move, "Um,...520 Grill, can I get the recipe?"
My mom's white wine marinated clams looked tasty as well (minus the one bad clam in the bunch). Â Not quite 4 stars because despite the appetizing menu and relaxed ambiance, this place was way too pricey!
I am still laughing over JP's comment upon entering the 520 Bar and Grill last night...."did we just walk in on a realtor's meet and greet?" Â We definitely weren't in Seattle any more! Â The crowd was an older, after work crowd with a couple 20 and 30 somethings sprinkled in, but it seems like they started filtering out and we were left surrounded by a bunch of gray-hairs in button downs and sport coats. Â The positive is it's good to know that people still go out in their 60s and up. Â I am not sure if it was the old guy with his fur coat and flashlight for the menu who made me chuckle or the two younger guys sitting next to us who were calling play by play on the couple younger girls who were there and how much they liked long hair. Â Â
This place is SMALL. Â Tables are thisclosetogether so don't expect to have any intimate conversations here. Â It appears that they do have a nice patio/deck complete with heat lamps that would be worth hitting up if you find yourself on the eastside in warmer weather. Â Service was good, menu has a decent selection between appetizers and entrees. Â We started with the clams which were served in white wine broth and split the lamb burger, which was pretty tasty although the fries sucked...that's good in my book because then I wasn't tempted to gobble them up. Â
The have a few beers on draft, including Manny's (who doesn't nowadays...way to go Manny!) and a few by the bottle. Â Both were pretty pricey...I think my pint of Manny's was $6 (ouch). Â We had a pitcher after a game the other night for $10, but I guess if you are a trendy eastsider with deep pockets, this is your place to go. Â
Overall a solid 2 1/2 stars, but I rounded up... because it didn't suck and provided for great people gawking. Â Ah Bellevue on a Thursday night...
Tucked in along the main shops on Main Street, you'll find 520. Â At first you are not really sure if the place is part of the adjoining furniture shop, or its own place. Â 520 is a little upscale in appearances (and prices), and small in size. Â I happened to find this place on a less crowded Sunday afternoon. Â I'd imagine this smaller place could be quite packed on a regular occasion.
From a bar perspective, it appears that they focus on wine and spirits. Â There's nothing on tap, but they do have a selection of bottled beers. Â As far as the food goes, their motto appears to be "big flavor, small plates." Â If you are familiar with tapas bars, you'll understand the concept. Â I had the salmon, which included basmati rice, organic greens and grilled asparagus. Â It was just the right amount of food, and didn't leave with that uncomfortable "I ate too much" feeling.
