I am revising my review and bumping them down one star. If you are there for breakfast, it is still great. However, their dinner menu is less than impressive, especially for vegetarians. We had the Eggplant Parmesan, as basically the only option on the menu, and it was a huge disappointment. The eggplant was tough, the flavors were bland and dull. Needless to say we will only be patronizing this establishment while the breakfast menu is being served.
Review Source:We joined a large group of friends here for a planned night out. Â We called several weeks ahead to confirm they could handle a group of 25-30. Â No problem. Â Ordering off the menu and separate checks is OK.
A couple of days before our night out Crave called and asked if we could push the reservation back because they had another group coming earlier. Â So moved it back as requested.
When we arrived the dining room was set up and the servers were ready to take drink orders and let everyone check out the menu. Â The drinks came and the servers requested to started taking order for the appetizers and main course. Â This is where things started going down hill. Â Not sure what happened in the kitchen but main courses started coming out before appetizers. Â Order were under cooked and over cooked. Â Several items would be served and then there would be a 5-10 minute delay and more order would be served. Â Some of the group were completely finished before others received anything. Â One of our friends waited over 45 minutes for an appetizer.
Some of the dinners were complimented by our friends, most including mine was very over cooked.
Then on top of that the restaurant add 20% gratuity on all of our checks.
They should have never accepted a large group if there kitchen can't handle it
May try this place again with my wife to give them a chance with a small group.
My husband and I came here for the first time the other day because it was very close to where we live. We decided to give it a try because of the reviews we had read online. For appetizer we had the lumpia. It was ok. A little too overcooked. When it came time for our entrees we were ready to dive in. He got the crab cakes and they were delicious. I got the seafood sampler (I wanted to try a little bit of everything). The fried scallops were to die for and the rest was decent. Both our meals came with the vegetable as a side which was a few pieces of broccoli that were WAY overcooked and burnt. When it came time for the bill we were shocked as to the price. For two people looking for a seafood lunch this was way too expensive. I don't know if we will be coming back for lunch/dinner anytime soon, only because of how expensive it was. We are still interested in trying their breakfast.
Review Source:Okay I'm going to keep it real amidst all these fluff reviews: this place is nothing more than an empty shell. I'd call it more of a bar, really. The views are fantastic, sure; who doesn't love to sit by the water? That's were the greatness ends.
We came here on Mother's Day and when I called to make reservations the phone changed hands several times and I was first told I could not make reservations but then told I could since it was only 2 people and a highchair. When we showed up, there appeared to be confusion at the hostess stand by a mother/daughter asian team. The mother said our table wasn't ready, the daughter said our table was. Frankly, the mother kind of seemed like she was just in the way. They actually have some outdoor patio seating but for some reason they dont serve food out there. What a prime piece of real estate being undervalued!
We sat down to shaky, dirty tables. Our server arrived and let's just say he had horrible hygeine. Like I couldn't even look him in the face his teeth were so plaqued out. I'm not trying to be a total biotch but people's teeth are a pet peeve and maybe don't put this guy up front dealing with people but in the back prepping food. Since I am clearly 6 months pregnant, I asked for a virgin mimosa and he looked at me like I had two heads. SIGH. Come on man, it's OJ and any sort of sparkling WHATEVER you have in the back....cider, Perrier, Pelligrino...hell, I'll take gingerale. Surely your bartender can cook something up, right?! He came back and said he couldn't do it so I ordered a diet coke. Happy Mother's Day to me!
We ordered the fried pickles, which tasted exactly like store bought Vlassic pickle chips deep fried in a yucky batter. Fail. I ordered the fish tacos, which were completely and utterly tastleless and doused in the same sauce the fried pickles came with. I actually couldn't finish them they were so bland and dry. My husband got the burger, for lack of any other better options and it was.....a burger. Done.
Places like this really annoy me because they have the potential for being so great. Because they are on the harbor and have these sweeping views of the Elizabeth river they have an opportunity to have a real chef and to do fresh catch of the day and have a more upscale menu and overall environment. Even if it was casual, there is still no excuse to serve customers bland, frozen food! But they choose to go the frozen bar food route and rely solely on the views and barely passable service and THAT, my friend, does not a restaurant make. Pass.
We decided to go here on a whim this Saturday morning, and I'm so glad we did! Â
The restaurant is located in a marina so you have to take a nice stroll along the docks to get there. Â During the short walk to the restaurant, we were greeted by a friendly Golden Retriever who lives full time in one of the beautiful boats docked there. Â They had just opened, so we had the place to ourselves and we decided on a table right next to the windows overlooking Downtown Norfolk. Â This place has prime real estate...every seat has breathtaking views. Â
Our server Sarah was very friendly and attentive. Â My husband went with a cheese omelet with sausage, and I had 2 eggs over medium with their "famous" Crave Taters. Â My husbands omelet was fluffy and stuffed full of cheese and meat. Â He's somewhat of an omelet connoisseur and he gave it a big thumbs up. Â My eggs were perfectly cooked, but let's talk about these Crave Taters. Â Forget the eggs, just give me a plate of these puppies. Â They are deep fried hash browns tossed with, what looked like, Parmesan cheese, garlic, salt and parsley. Â Outstanding flavor. Â
Overall, it was a delightful place and we look forward to trying some other items on their menu. Â Honestly, it's one of those places where you can go to grab a cold beer, watch the water and dream about owning an expensive yacht. Â That's my kinda place.
Had a large time with family and friends one rather cool February Saturday. So good a time was had that we missed the boat show in Va Bch to stay put. Don't miss its predecessor at all. Appetizers are good, and lumpia are recommended. Bloody Mary's, while served in sour glasses, are tasty and satisfying. The red velvet waffle was fantastic, and ample to fill a hungry belly. My eggs, always ordered scrambled soft and hardly ever served as ordered, were perfect as were the bacon (thick and lots) and potato accompaniments. Omelets were chock full of fillings, and excellent. Get the hollandaise on the side. Owner was on site and very friendly as were our servers (we were there that long that they changed shifts). We'll be back for more, and well before Spring when you can anticipate the outside areas being full of hungry and thirsty customers.
