We live in the western suburb and go into the city to dine once in a long while. Â We had fond memories of the old Al Khaymeih of years ago and were happy to find that a restaurant had reopened in the same location. Â Our recent visit was unfortunately quite disappointing. Â The falafel and baba ganoush were OK. Â We ordered four entres and in general they were undistinguished. Â The beef shawarma was hard and dry. Â The lamb ribs were charred and their taste was crude, not much different from what I can produce from my backyard grill (I am not a good cook). Â I would definitely recommend staying away from the ribs as the dish is the priciest. The lamb shank was slightly better. Â The only dish that was up to grade was Tepsi Vegetarian. Â All four entres were served with the exact same sides: grilled tomatoes and onions, ungarnished, and a good portion of white rice. Â They gave us a lot of pita bread and we ended up with a lot of unfinished rice.
Our neighborhood Middle Eastern store (Mediterranean Oasis) has a kitchen that serves a small menu. Â Each dish of theirs beats Al Khyam's hands down. Â We will not drive such a long way again to get mediocre food.
